Just moved to the Boston area and celebrated our anniversary here. The clam chowder was excellent NE, and the French Onion soup was classic. I had the baked oysters, which was a first for me and I'd return for them as well as the mussels! We had the special Sea Bass and the Seafood Risotto, both large portions and excellent! Their special Old Fashion was made the same way as my all time favorite of bourbon on the rocks with an orange slice or twist but made perfect muddled with sugar and cherries. The Old Fashioned and wine were huge free pours. Reservations are difficult to get, so plan early and let them respond with availability. The large private parking lot is not large enough!! Cars were overflowing to the side street! Will return for sure!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was delicious.
They location was a bit loud for a birthday celebration. However, we did have an enjoyable time.
Be the first to ReplyPoorer than expected.
.. supported with take out orders during the pandemic, food is usually very good. They appear to prefer large group events and bar patrons. My guest arrived before me harassed by a drunken party goer. Lots of excuses and no apology... seeking new dining experiences elsewhere.

If you don't really pay attention, you will think that you are having a good experience. The meat is overcooked and bland. The sides are cafeterias steam table selections. You may realize that it was the strong cocktails and overpoured wines that satisfied you. Sad

Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is like taking a step back in time - old
This restaurant is like taking a step back in time - old wood, fireplaces galore and cozy vibes. The moment you sit down, you're greeted by someone who hand picks a dark or white roll for you, with butter on the table. It's nice that there's a bottle of water at the table too. We ordered the French onion soup cups, which was the perfect size before diving into our entrees. The menu is extremely diverse, but the comfort foods stole the show (pot roast and meatloaf). We ended with the caramel bread pudding, which was absolutely delicious. Portions are generous and prices are extremely affordable, which is a combination hard to come by today. Definitely recommend making a reservation, but looking forward to coming back the next time we're visiting family on the North Shore.

Fresh breads, good drinks and great food and service.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and cozy atmosphere.
I love the fireplace and the staff are extremely friendly. Lots of parking too!
Be the first to ReplyThe service was outstanding especially the hostess.
I had called for a specific night and timeframe that was way too late in the week. The hostess went above and beyond to help me out! The drinks options were great along with the menu and specials. We all appreciated the attentive service throughput the evening. We can't wait to return
Be the first to ReplyThe best.
The ambiance is an old New England-style tavern with low ceilings and creaky floors. There are fireplaces in every dining room but I'd recommend the tavern. You can spend a lot here but keep in mind there is also a tavern menu with peasant food (burgers, pub food) which is equally great. I love the seafood risotto. If you have a larger party, you can ask for a private room which is so fun on the upper floors. Lastly, there is a summertime upper and lower outside deck. I like the upper deck where you can see the church. Definitely make some time and enjoy a birthday, or anniversary at the Hart House. They do take reservations, recommended as it's busy on weekends.

For 20 years this has been our favorite restaurant. Because of Covid, etc we hadn't been there for a while. I decided I'd like to go there for my birthday dinner so we called weeks ahead and requested a table in the Keepers Room, our favorite. When we got there we were brought to the room above the Keepers Room and my wife and I were seated at a 4 seat table in the middle of the room, not an enjoyable place to sit when smaller tables. First change we noticed was that instead of being brought a basket with some rolls a server came by and gave us only one roll each. I'm sorry, but if you're going to charge what they charge for entrees I don't think its unreasonable to expect more than one roll. It's a penny pinching move by management that started our meal on a slightly sour note. The food was still good but was definitely not as good as it used to be. I had been looking forward to my favorite, the seafood risotto. For $36 I got a smaller portion with just a few pieces of asparagus. No salad included and $12 if I wanted one. It was okay but nothing like it used to be. It's still a good restaurant, just not a great one anymore. Doubt we'll be going back anytime soon.
Be the first to Replygreat meal! we were seated in the "keepers room".
i got the tuna and it was terrific as the sticky rice was too. not that i'm into generous portions but if you are, i thought the appetizer and salad was quite large! the icing on the cake was the waitress Rosalie. i absolutely feel the wait staff can make or break a dining experience regardless of how good the meal may be. She was the bow. our dinner with our friends we haven't seen in a while was better because of her. ty

Can't be beaten in the area. Varied menu and specials to choose from.
Be the first to ReplyLove! Delicious food, drinks, service and ambiance.
My favorites are a dark and stormy, French onion soup and the seared tuna. My husband gets something different every time. This visit he had a dark and stormy, butternut squash soup and rack of lamb. All wonderful!

Been Too Long! Met brother and sister in law for dinner and oh boy, why haven't we been back sooner! Love the ambiance and decor. Very romantic. I had the Onion soup and it was absolutely divine!!! Has to be right up there with the best, the calamari was so crisp and light, outstanding.Rare tuna was loved by one, two had the eggplant lasagna, that could not have been more delectable, loved by both. Rack of lamb was a beautiful presentation with a mountain of perfectly seasoned green beans. Desert had crazy huge portions, bread pudding, apple crisp and chocolate chip Sunday was so well presented and much enjoyed by the desert lovers. Can't wait to bring our adult kids to enjoy this experience with us soon!
Be the first to ReplyThis place is an absolute gem.
Its as old school as the building its located, in all the best ways. All sorts of tavern classics, all done the right way. Their steak tips might be the best in the north shore. Stellar martini list, and they are made expertly and are delightfully icy cold. Just good luck getting in.
Be the first to ReplyWishing to quietly, romantically celebrate our 49th wedding
Wishing to quietly, romantically celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary, secured dinner reservation a week in advance via phone, specifically requesting & was assured seating in the "Keepers Room"...When we arrived, we were told "receptionist must have been confused and they have us down in another room" (they offered no apology, nor compensation). Huge birthday celebration going on with live music and gales of laughter & drinking in immediate adjacent room, making our quiet conversation difficult. Our room's lighting was SO dim, I had to bring menu to wall sconce to try to decipher. Admit, food was plentiful & "good." But, seems they put us & others in room with us a bit aside to cater to the more-profitable partying crowd next door...on a usual, expectedly quiet Thursday night, no less. Our first visit, after noticing its rave reviews, was certainly disappointing.

Portions are huge and delicious! Place is pretty dark and old but in a good way. There is a interesting history behind the restaurant. Prices are decent... not overall priced which is a plus. Nice wine selection and accommodations. I look forward to my next meal here :)

We've previously had some really good meals here but trying to make a reservation it's like trying to get into a secret society it's a very archaic system they don't use any of the reservation platforms out there which is fine but you have to call leave a message,Number of people in your party Time and day of reservation and then you're lucky if they even call you back I guess they don't really need the business I've been in the restaurant industry for over 40 years and this is not the way you Do business sorry1640 plenty of restaurants out there that can do it just as well and will take my reservation
Be the first to ReplyIt's just not the same.
Prices are very much higher and meals aren't as good as they once were. My wife and I were disappointed. We may try again but it won't be for a long time.
Be the first to ReplyHad dinner at the bar.
When the check came I paid buy credit card. I left a $25 cash tip! When I got my credit card bill I noticed they added a $25 tip on the credit card!! I call several times to only to have to leave a message. As of this day (one ย month later ) I have never received a call back. So if you are planing to go to the Hart House I would say pay close attention to you bill!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, pleasant bar area.
I like the ambiance but I'm glad we got a bar table and not a stuffy looking restaurant table.
