167 Raw Oyster Bar Charleston Reviews from The Last Year
Great ambiance & location.
Close to many of the enjoyable sites of Charleston! We'll be back!!
We enjoyed our meal.
My oysters were super fresh, but a few weren't cleaned well. The service was good.
I'm originally from Maine and spend summers there .
The lobster rolls at 167 raw are not very good and exorbitantly priced considering I pay $4 a pound with shipping to Charleston. Lobsters never taste the same here because they aren't fed in transit and often are dead of arrival and don't taste well . You can fly to Maine on Breeze airlines to Portland direct for $49 less than a meal at 167 and far better . I will never go back again . Rip off ! Try Masons in the market , better and costs much less.

No go after 9:30 on a weekday!! My review is an average of two experiences as this raw bar is directly across the street from my hotel. The first night, we (a party of 2) got on the list and waited about 30 minutes which was worth it! The oysters and the vibe and menu are exquisite. I am a food snob and live (and dine) in Key West and the food here is on point. HOWEVER, I came in the next night for late dinner solo and the vibe was so yuck. I walked in at 9:45 pm and although the closing time is 11pm... every bearded man on shift greeted me as if I was their spouse who asked them to fix a broken garbage disposal that I had single handedly broken by shoving an artichoke and crab down the drain and flipped the switch while indulgently sipping my white whine. It was a shameful experience to even order. I then watched as they treated the next 4-5 parties who came in exactly the same way but progressively worse as the clock ticked forward. The couple next to me shared the shame and pressure they felt just being seated. The guy who placed my original order was reluctant to even make eye contact and then when my cash tip was collected not a single thank you was uttered in my direction. Something is wrong here guys! Close earlier or pay your staff better but don't allow open disdain for customers. There were at least 5 parties treated this way between 9:45 and 10:30pm. Gross. Do better.
Cute place.
Good fresh food and the drinks are amazing also. Highly recommend for a little drink and small bite.
Charleston versus Nantucket
Charleston wins over Nantucket in terms of sophistication in this battle of the two locations of the same eating establishment. Nantucket has a food truck, a fishmarket, an outdoor picnic area and wonderful fresh seafood. We didn't sit down in Charleston's elegant bistro due to a 2-1/2 hour waitlist, but their takeout fried oysters were far more adventurous and embellished than the tasty but plain fried oysters on Nantucket.
Best lobster rolls!
We visited in April 2018 and had the most delicious lobster rolls we’ve ever had (and we’ve had quite a few). Late post but I wanted to remember what this place was called for the next time we’re in Charleston.
Great Food
The food here is good. The service can change drastically depending on your server. Be prepared to spend a lot of money if you dine here... We come here about every other month. The raw bar selection is the main reason we dine here. But again, it's pretty expensive...
Was lucky to get a bar seat at the courtyard bar.
This place certainly fills up. I ordered an old fashioned- which was pretty pricey and tasted very sweet. Am finding a lot of places in Charleston make cocktails a bit too sweet for my palate. Had the market salad which was fresh and delicious and the seafood sampler platter. Everything tasted very fresh and they offered interesting sauces to complement.

This restaurant is exceptional! We went twice during our one week visit to Charleston. I just had to have one more go at it! The oysters and wait staff were beyond exceptional. Incredible menu and wine list. I could eat there again and again!
Great food and service.
My wife and I ate here recently for the first time. We both loved it. The food, and the service were excellent. I had the oysters "Rockefeller" as an appetizer, and for the main course the ceviche. My wife had the halibut. Both were excellent and we'll definitely return. It's a jumping restaurant, so it's not a "nice quiet place". Our table was at the front window and we loved it. We'll definitely return.

Went here with a group of 12 - they were kind enough to get us two tables right next to each other which works out perfectly. I had a glass of the Sauvignon Blanc, the side salad (which was a good size and delicious), and a fish taco which I really enjoyed. The servers were great and food came out fast for such a big party. Highly recommend this place on your trip to Charleston. Pros: service, food, staff Cons: no reservations
Lobster roll was amazing!!! Soo so good.
The chips that we ordered with it came out of a bag.. underwhelming, especially since everything else seems so gourmet. Margarita was great. Fish taco was awesome too! Also, they do not have a happy hour, if you're wondering.
167 Raw is one of my favorite places to eat in Charleston.
After putting our name in on a Saturday night as they do not take reservations, we had to kill time for 3 hours - but it is absolutely worth it. As it's currently soft shell crab season, I had to try the soft shell crab sandwich. I loved how well seasoned and soft the bun was and that there was a side sauce for dipping. The sandwich also had some sort of crunch on the inside I liked - kimchi maybe? The crab itself however wasn't my favorite. It was more of a texture thing with me. I didn't realize I would still be eating some of the crab shell, and although the texture had a crunch to it, it was too chewy for me personally. I also had the crab dip as an appetizer which I loved and came out at a perfect temperature. My friend and I were seated directly next to the window which gave the atmosphere more of an intimate setting. I was already in a good mood because of our seating arrangements, but our server was also as well which is a big part for me during my dining experience. The only thing I would have changed this time around is I wish I had been served a side of complimentary chips instead of having to ask for them. They usually come with every meal so I thought that was odd. Despite that one small incident, the food is still top notch and I highly recommend going, even if you don't get the soft shell crab. The lobster roll and tuna sandwich will forever be my all time favorites.
Great place for light lunch.
Stopped in for a light lunch before leaving town. Oysters on half-shell were tasty and then the bartender offered a suggestion for small tuna fish dish. A bit pricy, but excellent lunch.
Mediocre food, terrible service
I really wanted to give this a good review…. Waited 3 hours to finally get a table, after being sat we waited 15min till we got water then another 15min until we finally ordered our dinner. Lobster roll was really bland, much better places in town. After being served food, our waitress only came by once to ask about desert…. This was after we already waited another 15min after being done with our dinner. To say the least we were extremely underwhelmed with the service and meal.

First time visitors to Charleston - so glad this was recommended to us. Friendly and attentive service and excellent food.
My favorite meal in Charleston was at 167 Raw Oyster Bar.
The oysters were so clean and fresh, the service was excellent- we sat at the bar. We were not rushed. We shared an entree and that was also delicious. It was recommended by someone who lived in Charleston.
So good.
So so good. Thankfully we went on a weekday, just two of us, so we grabbed a seat at the back patio bar. Could not have been better. Josh, the bartender, made the night with great recommendations. We had a half dozen raw oysters. Delightful. The crudo, which was a fish I'd misspell, the pastrami swordfish (to die for) and the side salad - which was so good with fennel and strawberries, and (it shouldn't be this fricking good but it is) carnitas taco. It's a seafood place and doesn't even need a carnitas taco but this is like a confit of pork taco. Might be the best $8 I've ever spent. Back to the swordfish pastrami. This is the dish that drew us here and it did not disappoint. Soft rye bun, a touch of Swiss cheese, thin slices of swordfish that are nicely seasoned. Really nice flavors. Definitely would be hard not to get that again when we go back. Oh and oysters French. Somehow had not had this before? Yes please. Plus a great cocktail menu and one of my favorite beers Charles Towne Fermentory Sungazer.
Amazing.
Worth the wait. The cucumber salad is to die for! Key lime pie amazing. The music was good.

Absolutely fantastic, great food, drinks, service and atmosphere. This must be on your list when visiting Charleston.
Amazing energy in here.
I liked that it wasn't super stuck up and snobby, which can be rare with top restaurants in Charleston. The waiters were all very knowledgeable about the oysters available. We ordered ones from NC, MA, RI, and SC. My favorite thing was the oven roasted oysters, which came with tuna chorizo like WHAT. They were insaaaane. I also loved my lobster roll. The lobster was meaty, flavored well, and was the perfect texture. It's no wonder they were ranked number 4 in Yelps list of top 100 seafood restaurants in the country!!!
Delicious!!!
Went with my daughter and her 2 year old for lunch. Short wait, dinned in the back area, lovely Good service Ordered the lobster roll…. Well worth the cost … Very delicious. Good margaritas!!! Carnt wait to go back !!!!!
Spontaneous drop in
Probably the best oysters in Charleston. Great service at the bar. The calamari was delicious as well as the yellowfin. Go here!
Great place!! We have a few apps and oysters.
Really enjoyed it. Try it you'll love it
Absolutely amazing.
The 35 minute wait was definitely worth it. Traveling for biz and use yelp regular. Did not disappoint. Citrus crab salad to die for! Oyster shooter was literally best I've ever had. New England scallop entree was perfect. Great service. Josh the bartender was one of the best mixologist! It was a dinner and a show watching him perform his craft. Make a rez bc it's worth it!!
Where do we begin.
. always the freshest seafood, amazing service and one of our favorite spots in Charleston
Delicious
A very enjoyable dinner. Great selection of fresh fish and seafood and really friendly helpful service. I loved my swordfish plate. They also have a great drinks selection.
Hands down the best place for oysters and everything else.
Everything was fresh and delicious. Must try. Service was amazing!
All the oysters ;)
Oh yes! Absolutely a great spot to meet up with friends and enjoy some of the best oysters. And the dirty martini with oyster brine is a wonderful addition to the fresh seafood
2 hour wait. Take staff advice on ordering. Pricy. .
Wait is usually 2 hours. Put your name in and walk around King St shops. True foodie heaven. Try the unique dishes. Crude was excellent. Swordfish pastrami was good - different. Worth the trip. $100 for one app, one sandwich, two tacos (mahi - didn’t like - shrimp was ok).
Fabulous restaurant
This was an excellent restaurant to go to. We thoroughly enjoyed our food and would go back again excellent service we truly enjoyed it.
Bad customer service
The food was good. The service quite the opposite. Very unwelcoming host. Set the tone for the rest of my experience. There are so many other choices in this beautiful city, do not waste your time to those who do not care wasting yours.
Takes some patience to get in but it's worth the wait!
This place is pretty hard to get in to, so when we put our names in (they don't take reservations) and only had a 25 minute wait so we were thrilled. We walked around a bit but made it back for a great meal! I had (6) oysters as an appetizer, all from Rhode Island, and they were amazing. My wife had the crab salad and really enjoyed it, while my Tuna Tatake was perhaps the best I have ever had. We will be back when we can!
