167 Sushi Bar Charleston Reviews from The Last Year

I still wouldn't call this the best sushi place is Charleston but is sure on my top 5. The tuna bites are a MUST.

Imagine sushi so fresh, it practically leaps from sea to plate. That's what this place delivers, with flair. Our evening started with a warm greeting from a hostess who felt like an old friend, offering spot-on menu recommendations that seemed tailored just for us. Each 167 restaurant maintains a remarkable standard of creativity, consistency and taste. It's clear they're not just playing the game; they're redefining it. Every dish was a visual and culinary delight, showcasing a mastery over the art of sushi that left us thoroughly impressed. The consistency and deliciousness across their varying locations is a testament to their excellence. This location is very cozy but provided a very intimate dinning experience.

This was my second time coming here and both times did not disappoint! I am from Chicago, but my sister lives in Charleston so I always ask to go here when I come to visit! The fish is fresh and the options are great. The place is very quaint so you need to make a reservation well in advance if you ever want to get in here. The service is great and you get to talk to the chefs at the bar. Highly recommend if you love seafood and sushi!
When I tell you this place cured all the sushi cravings
When I tell you this place cured all the sushi cravings that I had! Let me start off with the con before I talk about how much I loved this restaurant! Only thing I didn't like is I wish it came with MORE- and maybe that's because I just loved it that much because in reality, the dish sizes were just right! If you don't get the crab fries rice and or the crab rangoon roll, what are you doing??? I told my friend that this was probably one of, if not the best sushi I've had! Honestly, I want to keep this short & sweet (at least shorter than my other reviews) because there's so much I could say! GO VISIT THIS SUSHI SPOT
One of the best authentic sushi spots in Charleston.
Great food and recommendations from the staff. The Hot Chicken Bao and Duck Fried Rice were delicious. The location is small but great for a date night.
Visited 167 Sushi Bar on a Monday night.
Though the restaurant is pretty small we were seated immediately. Loved the minimalist atmosphere with sushi decor. I order the Crab Rangoon Roll and the Lobster Fried Rice. The portion sizes are perfect for sharing. The Fried Rice had layers of flavor which made for a memorable bite. Fresh ingredients, and a perfect balance of spices. The Crab Rangoon roll was also delicious and expertly made. I would recommend for anyone looking for a unique sushi experience!
The food is INCREDIBLE! Highly recommend ordering
The food is INCREDIBLE! Highly recommend ordering everything at once so it comes out in waves. Shrimp Tempura roll, chicken bao bun and spicy lobster fried rice are a must! The Walu nigiri just melts in your mouth! Also, as a sour beer lover, the rotating sour was the cherry on top! A must have visit.
Recommend this place highly! You will not be disappointed!
Recommend this place highly! You will not be disappointed! The staff/ manager/ owner? Was great, 23 seats, no more, no less, every seat filled Everyone enjoyed their meal The specials were unique and delicious
This was my favorite experience dining out in Charleston.
We were able to sit at the chefs counter and it was amazing watching the dishes be prepared for every table and talk to the chefs about their favorite picks. The food was great and it all was prepared quickly after ordering. I wish I brought a bigger appetite because I didn't want to leave when we finished. The aesthetic is clean and simple with tight quarters and seating reminding me of restaurants in Japan. Will absolutely be back next time we're in Charleston.

Great food and staff! They were super helpful when we couldn't decide what to order. We got the salmon shiso, spicy hamachi, and spicy lobster fried rice. They all tasted amazing, but my favorite was definitely the lobster fried rice. It's a small spot that I can see filling up very quickly on a weekend, but I went on a Tuesday around 3/4PM and there was plenty of seating.

Oh my goodness - just go! 167 is unmatched with their service and food. Can't wait to go back :) Note: if you sit at the bar, it can feel a little tight. BUT the environment is so fun and you feel like you're part of an experience, so, the bar seats are great!! Lovely for a date night!
Friendly service and attentive staff.
Very fresh fish and a nice combination of flavors. The miso soup seemed elevated from the ones I've had from other sushi restaurants.
Raw slays the sushi scene
Friendly helpful staff and delicious servings. Loved the well reviewed octopus and enjoyed the bar special. Marinated vegetables were a good complement.
My experience at this downtown restaurant left me with
My experience at this downtown restaurant left me with mixed feelings. While the ambiance exuded a delightful charm and the staff's friendliness was commendable, the overall impression fell short when it came to value for money. Comparing it to other downtown establishments, the pricing seemed a bit steep, casting a shadow over the overall dining experience. However, the positives include a welcoming ambiance that sets a pleasant tone for the evening, and the staff's amazing and friendly service enhanced the dining experience. The menu featured a selection of dishes, including sashimi, lobster bao, and charred octopus. The sashimi and lobster bao landed in the "just okay" category for me, failing to justify their price points. However, the standout of the meal was the charred octopus - an absolute must-try that lived up to its promise of being amazing. In conclusion, while the restaurant offers a pleasant atmosphere and exceptional service, the pricing and the average quality of some dishes left me with reservations. The charred octopus, however, is a shining star and a recommendation for those willing to explore the menu.
Perfect dinner
Hands down the best sushi ever. Jess was a great server and walked us through the menu. Everything we had was fresh and tasty. Each item was better than the next. The wagyu was perfect and the special roll - the Santiago- was the best roll we ever had. Dinner was finished with a double order of the fish bao bun (one was not enough). Wine was excellent as well. Such a gem of a place. Thanks for a lovely evening.
Best meal we have had this week.
Very small place and you have to get reservations. Little loud inside but great atmosphere. We lucked up and got seats in front of the cooks. We had the crab rangoons which were tasty. I had the Dan Dan noodles which were awesome. Best I've ever had. Wife had the spicy chicken bao. Also very good. Make this a stop in Charleston. You won't be disappointed.
Authentic sushi restaurant with a local spin!
Wow! 167 Sushi is a SUPER experience! Our expectations were low since we rarely find an authentic and delicious sushi restaurant in mainland US, but 167 Sushi was a delight! We actually booked a second dinner reservation on the spot during our six night stay in Charleston! The food is authentic but with local spin. We loved the softshell crab roll and the chicken bao but the highlight was the fresh sashimi and sushi choices, coupled with superior sake. We recommend 167 Sushi wholeheartedly!
Delicious creative menu
This small sushi restaurant has a very creative menu. Everything we ate was delicious, from the cucumber salad to the lamb noodles. Their tasty sushi rolls each had a creative twist as well. The staff was friendly, and even the chef wanted to know what we thought about the various dishes he created. Make sure to reserve a table well in advance as there’s limited seating. I would definitely dine here again when visiting Charleston.
Loved the food at this great restaurant. Would go again in a heartbeat
Loved the food here. My wife and I ate the pulled pork Bao, the charred octopus and the duck fried rice, washed down with a nice albarino. Each dish was fantastic and we watched it all being prepared from our bar table right in front of the kitchen. Diego and Brian, our chefs, did a great job taking care of us and really added to the experience. We did not eat the sushi on this occasion but we saw some of it and it looked great. The restaurant is fairly small and perhaps a little on the noisy side with most of the seating being bar style, but we would definitely go there again when in Charleston
My dreams came true
My husband and I were looking for extraordinary Asian food, and 167 Raw Sushi did not disappoint. We sat on chairs looking into the small kitchen and watched Chefs Miles and Diego whip up the most delicious dishes. We had the charred octopus, the pork bao, and the duck rice which came with a tender duck leg with crispy skin over a bed of seasoned crispy rice. Whoa!
Great food, overpriced and small.
The servers and staff were courteous, the food was good. But $15 for a small duck meat stick with mostly sauce? Not worth the touted prices. Sushi was fresh, but we’ve had much better for half the cost in the middle of the country. 167 has many restaurants and they are all popular and that’s great! Love local, just would not repeat or seek this out.
Best food for lunch
Could not recommend a better lunch spot. Very small restaurant and service is attentive. Grouper Bao special could be the best food we had in Charleston. Lobster curry also highly recommended.
Superb!!!
Stepped by here for the first time and have been stunned by the quality of the food. Absolutely amazing what this small team can do in the small Kitchen. The fried rice with lobster and the wontons very super special. Fantastic!!
Try this tiny place!
We had Omekaze, chef’s choice. Despite the fact that the fish had not originated in Charleston, it was delicious: The salmon both tender and juicy, the hamachi fresh and a little chewy, and so on. It was beautifully prepared and served on a piece of slate. The white, sparkling wine added to the experience. Terrific meal.
