Customer service leaves much to be desired - be careful of booking family rooms
We checked in at 1230 am after a long day of travel. We thought that we had booked three rooms, two connected and one separate. Upon check in we were told that we had actually booked two sets of connected rooms (vs two connected rooms) and that the rooms were non-refundable. We said fine (we were very tired), just give us the keys to all of the rooms so we can spread out and use them. We were given three sets of keys. When we opened the rooms we were only given keys to three single rooms, not the five rooms we had paid for. I went back to the desk and was told that we had been given all of the keys that we had paid for. We were very tired so we just took the rooms we had and went to sleep. The next day when we called the front desk to sort it out, they kept insisting they couldn't issue a refund on the second family room, when we had never asked for a refund, just an explanation of why were weren't given the keys that we had paid for. The hotel seems very focused on not losing the revenue from the extra room and didn't seem to care at all that they hadn't provided the keys that had been paid for. There were many chances for the hotel to avoid this, including actually providing the correct keys (either the first time or when we asked again), when we complained to simply offer some consideration, and when we finally complained to the manager to stop insisiting that they wouldn't provide a refund and acknowledge that they made a mistake by not giving us all of our keys. On a somewhat related note, the rooms are tiny. I recommend the Rosewood hotel or any of the other 5-star hotels in London over this hotel.

Fantastic location. Major sights are a 5-10 walk. Easy to access the tube for more distant locations. The staff was very friendly and professional. Breakfast is a definite must. I would recommend to anyone and would stay here again.
Be the first to ReplyStigmatising Hotel.
We booked their amazing and lovely DJ for our wedding this year when having a drink at their bar last year: such a smart DJ. But their management sacked this foreign DJ without any reason, in a very stigmatizing way. My husband and I would not recommend this stigmatizing hotel. Plenty of other hotels around accepting working with foreign talents :-)

Excellent hotel with fabulous location. Close to the hustle and bustle of London but if the beaten path! The hotel has a lot of history. The rooms were spacious and elegant and the staff exceptional! Would highly recommend if you visit London!

This was a one of a kind hotel and very glad we stayed. The decor is bold and fun. The rooms high standard - particularly the en suite bathroom. The ambience was great, the bar really smart and the restaurant Ekstedt at the Yard was outstanding. A weekend to remember

Fabulous hotel and location. Friendly and helpful staff and great quirky art all around the hotel. Breakfast was extremely nice and whole hotel was spotlessly clean and furnishings were exquisite. Definitely worth a visit

I love this hotel! Amazing staff, beautiful interior design, and super clean. The hotel is walking distance to museums, landmarks, shopping, restaurants, parks, etc. The rooms are very comfortable, quiet and have a nice big screen tv.

Our stay was perfect. The suite was gorgeous and had all the extra added “touches”. The location of the hotel is fantastic. A stones throw from literally EVERYTHING. The staff couldn’t do more to help. I would recommend to anyone.

Fantastic hotel and decor, and the staff were brilliant. The main bar should not be missed. Great position for the theatre world and restaurants alike. We will definitely be returning on our next London visit.

Beautiful hotel. Such a great staff! They even have a pillow menu! Had a top notch experience at a top notch hotel. The location can’t be beat — it’s right next to Trafalgar Square and Westminster . High recommend!

Excellent location, beautiful hotel, and fabulously friendly and helpful staff. We were celebrating our 25th anniversary. So glad we chose London and the Great Scitland Yard Hotel. Loved it! We will be back.

Pleasantly surprised….staff was excellent. Breakfast in cafe that came with my rate was perfect. Had two rooms for family with private hall that worked great. Not a better location in London…hotel really made the trip...
Be the first to ReplyCentral and comfortable and good value
The location of this hotel is lovely - 2 mins walk from Trafalgar Square, from Whitehall, from the river. 10 mins to The houses of Parliament, St James park, the London eye, covent garden. Rooms are pleasant and the commissioned art is clever. The staff are always attentive, the Elephants bar is very useable though I'm sad they've discontinued the stout.
Be the first to Reply“City View” does not exist
My wife and I booked here for our 10th wedding anniversary, booking a £400 a night room, specifically a “high floor, city view” room. We were told on check in that city views don’t exist and they’re “in the process of updating the website”. We were also booked on the first floor. We’d booked 3 months earlier and staff told us they frequently had this issue. It doesn’t take 3 months to change a website, it takes 3 minutes so this is a pretty disgraceful attempt to get people to book who the en have no alternative. We decided not k stay as a result. A saving grace was that the hotel manager helped us book a suitable room in a competitors hotel about 3/4 a mile away. We were also allowed the use of the room to freshen up for 45 mins and given champagne, both complimentary. It meant however that we had to compromise on our next hotel as getting a good room without booking in advance is difficult. To conclude, shameless misrepresentation on their website that still is unresolved at the time of writing.

Great value for money combines with service excellence at a hotel in a prime central London location. The staff are both very professional and friendly. And make sure you visit the rooftop bar. Would go back there without hesitation.
Be the first to ReplyAn excellent hotel
The Hyatt Great Scotland Yard delivers a great hotel experience on all counts. Though the room I stayed in was a bit small compared to North American standards, this is a minor quibble, as it was in superb condition, well-appointed, and very comfortable in all respects. The bathroom was clean, modern and well-functioning. I'd recommend this hotel, particularly to business travellers, without any hesitation.

We stayed for a night away as a local Londoner to make the most of a trip to the theatre. From the second we walked in we had a 5 star experience.
Check In - We were welcomed as we entered the reception and check in was very smooth. The team were keen to explain the decor of the hotel which is very sympathetic to its origins as the original headquarters of the Metropolitan Police (artifacts are also on display). There is also an exhibition of art from prisoners.
The room - was very comfy and decorated beautifully (even the door is a talking point). The bathroom was very roomy and with gorgeous colours. The design highlights a great attention to detail.
Food and drink - we ate and drank in the Elephant Bar once in the afternoon and then again in the evening. It is a very relaxing space and both times the drinks (including cocktails) and food were of high quality. Francesco asked us what flavour we liked and guided us through the cocktails! We also had the breakfast and again no complaints with great service (e.g. the waiter got us replacement coffee without prompting to ensure it was hot after we came back from the counter where the hot breakfast is served). That little extra touch.
Location - a quiet oasis a couple of minutes walk away from Trafalgar Square so great for restaurants, theatres, attractions etc
Summary - if you are looking for class, great service, something unique and a great location - BOOK NOW!
7 day stay
I picked GSY because it is close to my work, but it earns 5 stars on its own merit. We had some issues at check-in that were bugging me. Francesco handled the situation very well. I had a Premium King room: big enough for a longer stay, with a simple layout. The bedding was excellent. Even though we were on the 1st floor, it was very quiet (looking out onto a secluded square). Breakfast was included in our rate and was consistently very good. The 40 Elephants bar staff were great, drinks and snack food there were good if a little pricey. The gym was superb: one of the best i have seen in this part of London, custom designed rather than a room conversion.

Great service from very friendly staff,, lovely hotel accommodation and very close to everything the west end has to offer.
Great bedrooms (and amenities), especially the fantastic ambient bar and a very special building.
We will be back.
Fabulous property
This Hotel is in a great location near Trafalgar Square and access to public transportation. As you walk into the property you see it is beautifully decorated as you are greeted by someone from reception. My room was lovely, appointed with a white starched duvet covered bed and fluffy white towels in the bathroom. Small bottles of toiletries available on the vanity. Bright light windows, with lace curtains and dark out curtains if needed. Breakfast was included. A lovely place to stay for your visit to London.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Scot! The Great Scotland Yard Hotel is a must!
The hotel, staff, location, condition, and comfort of this hotel is TOP notch - it will be our go to place to stay in London. I must specifically mention how comfortable the beds, bedding and pillows - so perfect for those long days of walking!
Be the first to ReplyHorrible, Incompetent Service
No amount of droll hotel art or amber fragrance misted everywhere can overcome incompetent service. Welcome to Great Scotland Yard.
On my date of arrival, the hotel simply stopped answering its main phone number altogether from 7:15p to 7:45p. Then, later after walking in the front door, I and other guests found the reception desk abandoned for an extended period.
Once finally in a room, neither the TV remote nor the power adapter lent to me worked. This meant having to go behind the wall to unplug the TV (since it is forced on upon arrival with hotel information) and going back to the front desk (since they do not answer the phone) for an exchange, only to be told by the front desk representative that no replacements were available and shrugging his shoulders.
A laundry order needed for same-day service (was in by 8am for delivery by 7:30pm which is the hotel’s stated service timeframe) didn't come back; naturally no proactive explanation or heads-up as provided. Three nighttime and early morning interactions later with multiple staff, none of whom ever followed up proactively or ever in the timeframe they committed to, the order finally gets returned after 2:30pm the next afternoon, well after it was too late.
A Covid test result document emailed to the front desk for printout was, of course, not printed without my having to go down to the desk in person to ask again, rehash, and ensure it happened.
Nothing here works. Ever. Staff seem accustomed to say anything at all to make a guest go away without actually addressing a problem or filling a need.
And just for good measure: the water pressure is very weak (as pointed out on many other reviews), the shampoo & conditioner in the room are two different brands (like they are using up leftovers from a remainder sale), the hotel uses lots of single-use plastic bottles and bags (environmentally awful), and 3 of 4 mornings my table at breakfast had crumbs or sticky spots on it: unsanitary. There is no water to drink in the gym, and the corridor leading to the gym was blocked for two days by white boards left behind from a conference the prior week. The in-room thermostat truly needs an instruction manual, and most staff don’t know how it works (if you end up staying here, there is an unmarked black bump on the upper right-edge to turn it on and off).
The staff here needlessly made this stay a disaster. I wish there were a lower score option available, and I have never been so relieved to leave a hotel as to get out of this place once and for all.
