Beautiful setting, food less so
This place mainly depends on its setting. I wouldn't come back for the food, but I would for the atmosphere. Hopefully they will focus more on the food in the future. On my next trip I wouldn't return because I've seen it before and the food always disappoints.

We waited 10 mins with no services and waiters walking past us. Standing and staring but not serving! 10 mins later a waitress came and lied she had just noticed us. As we were not wanted we did the decent thing and walked away. No one tried to stop us! Why would they!! Went down the road to Casa Mia!!! Best dinner ever!
Terrible
Zero service and explanation given made the experience even worse. Totally ignored. Worst restaurant experience I have ever had.

Disappointing! Dress codes are a no-go, a relic and memory from the past as well as the colonial age. I'm not asking that I be allowed to spend my money...
Quirky location with outstanding food!
Incredible location with a great ambiance and superb service. A great selection on the menu and the food was 10/10. Would recommend this place in a heartbeat and on top of that it was great value for money.
price-performance ratio is not right
The atmosphere is very nice, the food and the service have a lot of room for improvement. Our waitress was very friendly, but had no idea what she was serving. The wrong menus were served, the meat was well done instead of medium-rare, the penne was overcooked and the arrabiata sauce, despite ordering it extra spicy, was a bland tomato sauce. When flambéing the prawns, the flame almost caught one guest's hair. The penne arrabiata was returned and was cooked even softer and served again with an even more horrible sauce; these were also returned immediately. In fact, they were even added to the bill... the food is far too expensive for this quality.
It's not the same thebCave as I remember
1. Change of chef - the quality of the dishes has dropped dramatically. The idea of a salmon dish (deep-frozen) when the ocean delivers fresh fish every day is the quintessence of failed ideas from the new chef. 2. Service - trained in time when Cave was the Cave, but does not see obvious mistakes. Serving a plate with a knife for butter when olives are served. 3. Using a dollar conversion rate of 130 KHS when the official exchange rate is 155 is no longer a mistake but a deliberate deception of the customer. For explanation you can exchange money and nearest shopping center without any additional documents using 150 KSH change rate. I am very disappointing.
Good except the payment, be careful with the cards
The place is very original, they have free shuttle service. The food was pretty good, the service was fast and the price was good. In general everything was fine, the problem was when paying, they did not take any card such as Revolut, N26, not even a debit card, finally we paid with a credit card, which we did not want because we had read comments from people who later had payment problems. attempted payments to your card, and indeed since that day we received attempted payments in dollars and WhatsApp from foreign numbers. I don't know if it's a coincidence but reading comments about it and that it happened to us just since then I don't know. I think it is appropriate that people know this so they can try to pay in cash if possible.

Apparently the place has gone under new management lately and according to customers from the old days, they did not keep the chef. Which would explain the poor quality of the yet-very-expensive five-course set menu for Valentine’s Day. For starters, presentation was completely off for most dishes to the point where some of them looked downright ridiculous and totally unappealing. Second and most importantly some key ingredients were overcooked (bread sticks, salmon -on the Indian Ocean!-, pork belly, beef rosette, chocolate cake), spicing was approximate at best, and last but not least, the pana cotta was neither pana nor cotta….In conclusion, considering the much more deserving fairly-priced venues in the area, do not waste your money on Ali Barbour’s

. For starters we had a liver pate that had a very aggressive aftertaste, and some tomato pastry that was nice , but came cold in the middle - for mains we had steak - which was okay and made perfectly - but the meat was boring , and crab that was tasty but had lots of shells pieces in the meat that made it very hard to enjoy - and for desert we had custard that was dryish (which is quite an achievement on its own!) we did not pay for the desert as a compensation for the shells in the crab which was decent . The atmosphere is great in the restaurant, beautiful scenery, nice background music that don’t take over . The Service was ambivalent- the food arrived fast , and accurately, but our waiter knew nothing about the food but reciting the menu . I would still go for the experience- but not go back for the food .

Never ever disappointed. You will not regret. My wife and I spend the Christmas holidays on the coast year after year. This year we spent the holidays with a group of 16 people. Of course a meal at Ali Barbour’s is a must. We booked several months in advance, making a deposit to hold the table. The restaurant has a special table for large groups located spectacularly at the end of the cave. I asked that people be billed individually, which presented no problem at all. A broad variety cocktails are available which we enjoyed and took advantage of. The menu is exquisite as is the wine list. Afterwards we had desserts and digestifs, and it being my wife’s birthday, the staff sang a coastal rendition of happy birthday. Paying at night’s end was as easy as one could hope for, with every person being presented an individual bill. I can’t say enough how my wife and I enjoy Ali Barbour’s. We have been going there now for almost 10 years, and have no thoughts of ending this tradition as we are always satisfied with the food and the fantastic service. The staff are amongst the best you will encounter anywhere! Thank you, Ali Barbour and the whole team for such tremendous experience.

I was waiting on the transfer for name but it hasn’t happened yet and my reservation is tonight , will it be an issue that is hasn’t changed into my name yet

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
