I've been to many sushi restaurants/bars in the valley.
Asanebo from my experience is hands down the best sushi you can get. The service is immaculate, the best I've ever had at a sushi spot. I wouldn't be able to tell you something bad I've had there. Been going for a while now and everything is great.
Be the first to ReplyVentura has a million sushi spots and I've tried a bunch .
.. this place here I'm mad that it's open at 5 pm I'd be here all the time !!! Loved loved loved the yellowtail sashimi .. when I say I did the little dance as soon as it hit my palate I DID !!! It can be pricey it's literally fancy HOWEVER .. if you want one piece of sushi , that is 30 bucks just for one .. put all your money on that salmon caviar baby ... IT WAS THE PERFECT BITE!!!! Ten out of ten I'll be back !!!! Just yum chefs kiss!
Be the first to ReplyBest sashimi/sushi in the neighborhood.
Service was also quite lovely. This restaurant is located in a tiny strip mall with valet only parking. You can also find plenty of street parking. We skipped the omakase as they were all sushi selections and opted for a la carte sashimi. Photos below note everything we ordered but the standouts were: . scallop citrus yuzu . Mirugai (geoduck) . Toro Sashimi Though the sea bass miso soup and Hirame Truffle are recommended by others, I wouldn't necessarily order those again. The server does a great job of making suggestions and announcing the plates when served. Tip: Restaurant has small seating capacity so a reservation is the way to go. 4% service fee (presumably for credit card)

One of the best sushi I ate! The sushi melts in your mouth, the fish is amazing, just like in Tokyo. The service is top-notch, and the atmosphere is great! Now one of my favorite sushi restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyHands down best food I ever had in my life.
Everyone is kind, funny and helpful. Its a small place but perfect for a shared experience with a partner. I believe everyone should try their food at least once in their lifetime. Its outstanding and memorable.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is definitely a culinary experience not to miss
This place is definitely a culinary experience not to miss out on. I left this place absolutely joyous after what was definitely one of the best meals I have had in recent times. The flavor explosion for this meal is definitely one for the books and you bet ya girl will be returning. Now for what you all came here for....drumroll.... First up is the sunomono salad with crab. This was a very nice way to start my meal. The crab was plentiful in ratio to the seaweed and cucumbers and there was plenty of dressing to accompany every bit. Who doesn't like enough dressing in their salad to cover every bite? Next came the Hamachi Special which was a perfect blend of a citrusy flavor due to the Spicy Citrus Soy Sauce as well and salty. Next up is the unagi sushi. If you've ever had unagi and you're a fan like me, this dish does not need a review. I unagi. The crab special roll is a crab roll that comes with mayonnaise and either ponzu or yuzu mixed into the crab (sorry, I forgot which one). I personally didn't pick up any of the ponzu/yuzu flavor but it was great nonetheless. The Tai Yuzu (snapper) was also a citrusy flavor explosion that came with pepper paste. The two flavors melded perfectly. Don't go heavy on the pepper paste as it is a bit salty - little goes a long way. The ono and halibut sushi also paired well as prepared. No need for soy sauce. The wagyu was simply perfection! There was no need to use any of the condiments it came with. My only issue with this dish is that it was put "on hold" so it wasn't exactly too warm when I received it. Still was tasty af though. Dessert wasn't a must have but I did it anyways. Nothing to write home about. Feel free to skip dessert. I was on the fence regarding doing the omakase but I always worry that what will be chosen for me will not meet my standards as if I had made the choices myself. I know, control issues lol. So, I went a la carte and do not regret any of my choices. All of the items you see pictured were consumed by one person - ya girl. This part is for the boys. Boys, don't bring a girl here to try to impress her unless you have the bread - see the bill. This is place is not cheap. Men, you already know how to treat a woman right. Tips: Make ressies. This place is small and they do ask for the table back after 90 mins. Parking here is not easy as it is Studio City - valet is $9. Lastly, dishes are meant to be eaten as prepared so don't go ruining a perfectly great piece of sushi with soy sauce - the staff will recommend how it should be eaten.

This place has been on our list to try for quite some time now yesterday we decided to stop by for an early reservation. The staff was very kind and welcoming. Upon arrival. The sushi was wonderful although I will say the prices were far behind what they needed to be for the quality. The restaurant itself was very cozy and clean. if you're going to go here, I would say go for the Omakase instead of ordering from the menu itself.

Amazing sushi! Super friendly server as well! I had the best carpaccio as well. The entire restaurant was super clean and welcoming.

Asanebo is an intimate sushi spot that has been around for quite awhile in the studio city area. There is a very good reason why.Probably one of the best sushi experiences that I've had in LA. My wife was mind blown with the quality and the service we received from the server and especially our sushi chef when we sat at the sushi bar. We got the omakase which was a pretty good price and everything was amazing. The texture and the flavor were on point for every piece of fish. Even the several different types of miso soup were fantastic. This is a place that without a doubt, we will be back.

WOW - the hype is real with this place!! We were immediately greeted by the host and chefs in the kitchen when we walked in. We made a reservation for a group of 5 on a Monday night. They have a small parking lot in the plaza but it is only valet parking for $8. However, we were able to find street parking on Ventura Blvd and in the residential area. We ordered the Halibut Truffle, Yellowtail Special, the Toro sashimi, the Toro and Scallion Cut Roll, the Tuna roll, the Unagi sushi, the Fresh Water Eel Cut Roll, and the California Cut Roll. The servers were AMAZING and were filling up our waters very quickly. They were also very accommodating to our group of 5, as most of the sashimi and specials usually come with 4 pieces, they gave us a fifth piece so we can have a piece :) The Halibut Truffle is their signature dish and the Halibut tasted so smooth with the umami flavor of the truffle. The pictures show for themselves how fresh the fish is, especially with the Toro sashimi (which is my personal favorite). The hospitality that this place provides is unmatched. It can definitely be a bit pricey, but I feel that it is worth the splurge for the quality of fish you receive.

Ive been coming to Asanebo since 2001 , as a regular I can tell you that this place remains consistent. Food is excellent, service remains solid . Still a top sushi spot after all the years .
Be the first to ReplyYes, believe the hype as the fish and dishes are delicious.
We did the omakase and it was pricey! As amazing as it was, not sure it was worth the price and definitely don't think I can justify doing more than once.

Absolutely recommend this spot for high quality sushi at a very reasonable price. Their omakase is a steal in terms of value as you get multiple, expensive fish along with some side dishes.Parking can be tough depending on when you go as its mostly street
Be the first to ReplyExcellent.
A must for sushi lovers. Went early and got first class service. Each course a work of art and the whole meal timed just right. The real deal. Not cheap but less that a trip to Japan.

Excellent superb every time I go I know I'm going to be amazed by service food and platings
Be the first to ReplyWe are so happy the sushi bar is now open again.
First time since the pandemic. Manny is always delightful and amusing. Terauchi the owner was here tonight and we love him. Nori was our chef and we ordered kimnedai to start the delicious meal. This is our favorite Japanese restaurant on the planet!!

Love their bonito! I always try to get their fresh catches but all their sushi is good.
Be the first to ReplyI have been dining at Asanebo since it first opened.
Chef Tetsuya trained under Nobu. Him & his brother Shunji opened this little place in 1991. The food is always super fresh, presented beautifully & so, so tasty. I usually let Tetsu decide what I'm eating so it's always a variety of things I probably would never try! I just love the vibe of this place, always such a treat walking through the doors. The last time I was there I was presented with the chawanmushi but instead of uni, they subbed ikura. What a creamy, light concoction of egg custard that is so delicate & flavorful, served in a tiny dish. I highly recommend starting with this dish. The rest of the courses were a delicious blur of sushi, sashimi & a cooked shrimp dish.31 years is my longest relationship with a restaurant. 31 years is an exceptional record, especially in Studio City/Los Angeles area. I don't visit LA very often, but this is a must-visit place every time.
Be the first to ReplyService was good, but the food was disappointing.
The place is very pricy but the food portions are extremely, again extremely small and not a good quality.
Be the first to ReplyWasn't good!! Expensive but really not worth it.
Second time we're here. Since we live close by, We decided to give it a second chance. The sushi assortment was mediocre at best and the scallop (and the sushi) tasted "not fresh". The only good dish was a potato appetizer dish which you can get anywhere. Really not recommended.
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi ever! Always fresh with great presentation.
Excellent service ! Worth every penny! Highly recommend!

Wow, wow, wow! Coming from the midwest sushi consists mostly of small rolls with so many ingredients and flavors you can't even tell there is fish in them. Which is probably their goal! This place does not hide from the fish and it's easy to see why! We got there early, around 5:30 and didn't have a reservation. We were able to still be seated, though. The entire staff took care of us. We were never wanting for a thing, but not in an overbearing way. Our main server gave us amazing recommendations and told us how to eat each thing we ordered. For example, we were politely asked to only dip the rolls in soy sauce and to enjoy the other options soy sauce free. Let me tell you, none of them needed soy sauce! Will definitely be back!

Idk if it was better before, but now it's totally not worth the money...uni and grilled halibut were good but the "popular" truffle sashimi was totally rubber - like and tasteless. Cannot believe it's 30 bucks
