Bali Kitchen Sacramento Reviews from The Last Year

Had the Nasi Goreng with Beef, Seafood Curry Soup, and Durian Sticky Rice. Food is not super authentic but tastes good. The Seafood Curry Soup has some noodles, not a lot as a meal. I agreed with other reviewers that it is not thick enough, a bit watery. We ordered the Durian Sticky Rice as dessert and thought it will be a few bucks - it is $21 when we see the receipt! Holy Moly! But I shall say it tastes pretty good, but I won't order again lol

Had a hankering for some Indonesian cuisine and came upon Bali Kitchen. I ordered the Indonesian Fried Chicken and the Beef Rendang. Both dishes were incredibly flavorful and well executed! The sambal was so fresh, it had to be made in house. Amazing food!! Side note: I indicated that I had a peanut allergy and someone was thoughtful to alert me to the use of candle nut (commonly used in authentic Indonesian cooking) by including a handwritten note with my delivery order!! Thank you!!

We stopped in mid-day for lunch because we really wanted to try legit nasi goreng for the first time after making it at home a lot over the past year. The dish I got was bland, soggy, and had no flavor at all-- let alone the spice and sweetness that basically defines the dish. The rice was so mushy and soft that it was paste-like, and the chicken seemed totally unseasoned. My plate was easily half onions and cabbage, and the strongest flavor i could discern, if i focused, was celery. I considered asking for sauce, but honestly, I didn't think it could save it even if I did. The cendol was nice, thankfully, but the food was basically inedible. I ended up throwing away half the plate when i couldn't stomach any more. It was also expensive for the portions.

I asked for a napkin because my baby's nose and eyes were running and their was a roll and an entire stack of napkins at the door I was standing at, I just couldn't reach it. The Asian lady just looked at me, said they don't have any & walked away toward the kitchen. Never came over to give me any or anything. My friend asked me if I wanted to just grab some food there, absolutely not. A place that can't even give me a napkin, will never get my money. Wont recommend any here ever, nor come here. Hospitality for a simple napkin can do you well in life. Be kind and acknowledge others, you may be acknowledged even more from getting what you put out into the world.
My partner is from Jakarta and she's been coming to this
My partner is from Jakarta and she's been coming to this place for years, not just because it's hard to find Indonesian food in Sac, but mainly because the food is hella delicious! We've had most everything in the menu, but the main staples we typically get are the Ayam Goreng and Beef Rendang. We typically order to go since it's located in Old Town Sac, and with two people one person can jump out to get the food while the other circles around if there's no parking. The owners are some of the nicest people around, so highly recommend supporting this fantastic spot!
Went to pay for meal and I was charged $5.
00 more than the menu said. I asked and was told the lamb was more money. Lamb satay was tough. When sent back they did not compensate me for full price of meal saying I had eaten it. I had one piece of meat on the skewer which was so hard to chew I immediately went back. Not very good customer service!!
Highly excited to visit.
If you are familiar with authentic Indonesian food, avoid at all costs. Chicken was bland and dry. Noodle dish lacked spice and nonetheless flavorless. A few bites and in the garbage. So disappointed. A hard no go. EG Eats

Long story short, we stopped by here despite seeing the less than stellar reviews. I'm usually leery of eating near tourist areas and an Indonesian restaurant with a very generic name at Old Sac Waterfront already me hesitant without taking into account any reviews. We came here on a weekend and there was a good handful of people dining at the place. It's pretty casual - outdoor bench seating only and you walk up to the "counter" (it's really the door to the shop with a table set up) to order. It was busy, but not crazy busy, but we were told by woman there (possibly the owner), that there would be a 20 to 25 minute wait just to place our order. Rather unusual and I could not tell if they were short on staff or if she was flying solo, but I think she disappeared into the kitchen to cook. We opted to wait and got our orders in some time later. The wait for the food itself wasn't terrible, but I'm estimating it was about 40 to 45 minutes total from when we first wanted to order to getting our food. For some context, we had folks from Indonesia in our group (plus non-Indonesians) and we all ordered different entrees ranging from fried rice, noodles, and curry. All of us weren't impressed by the food for various reasons. I had the kwetiau (kind of like chow fun) with beef. It was very average, but there was a lot of vegetables (ie cabbage) piled on to where I almost felt like I was eating salad at times. There wasn't a ton of noodle which is my favorite part. My only positive takeaway is that it tasted really healthy, but I was still hungry afterwards as it wasn't a very satisfying meal. In collecting feedback from the others and my own observation: The Thai curry was bland, watery, and also had a lot of filler vegetables piled in. Another noodle dish (this is normally dry and stir fried like a chow mein) was very wet like the noodles were only boiled and not fully drained before serving. The fried rice was OK, but there was some negative feedback which I can't recall - it was possibly a tad too salty. Adding fuel to the meh experience is that I was overcharged. I could not see the itemized charges and I missed/skipped the option on the machine to get a receipt. I was wondering how 2 dishes came up to roughly $40 before tip, but soon got the automated email receipt to check. The Thai Curry was listed as $15, but we were charged $17. The beef kwetiau had no price posted, so I won't say I was overcharged, but that thing cost $20. It didn't seem to be any more special than other plates which mostly had menu prices of $15/$16. How was this twenty bucks? I later regretted adding a tip for a self service restaurant that doesn't have their prices correct and I felt a little taken advantage of for the items that didn't have a price listed. My fault for not confirming. I also felt the dishes were loaded with cheap veggies like cabbage to make the portion appear decent - all of this just made the experience distasteful, no pun intended. If you want a bottled water (might have been Costco Kirkland), that's $3. While I love supporting mom and pop shops, this was a disappointing experience. I won't be back for overpriced/overcharged and mediocre Indonesian fusion food served on a Dixie plate.

We ordered nasi goreng, chicken satay, ketoprak, Indonesian fried chicken, 5 pcs Risoles to go, Tessa took our ordered on the phone. She overcharged us $20. She charged us each dishes $5-$7 more than what stated on their menu online ( except the risoles). Be careful if you must come to this restaurant. Check your itemized charge before leave the restaurant. We WONT be back here!!
