A perfect place for an authentic American Italian meal.
Dark and cozy for a special occasion, I came here for my birthday and they sang and made the night really special. The portions are large and the food very tasty and flavorful!

the best traditional Italian restaurant anywhere in the five boroughs. My family and I have been eating at Bamontes for more than 60 years. We have had many of our milestone celebrations there, including my bachelors party. My grandfather used to sell kosher chickens to Bamontes. There is no better traditional family Italian in NYC.

If you're looking for an old school Italian restaurant in the heart of Williamsburg thats true to it's heritage, look no further than Bamonte's! We made a reservation for dinner at 7 on a Thursday for two which is recommended because this restaurant was packed! When you arrive you enter the bar area where people are waiting to be seated. We found the hostess and after she confirmed our reservation she sat us down. This restaurant has white table cloth over the tables and old Italian servers in tuxedos who are carrying several plates as a time. When it came time for us to order we went with the veal parmesan and the classic spaghetti and meatballs. They also serve table bread which was tasty in itself. Overall I'd recommend coming here if you're looking for a no frills old school Italian restaurant that's chop full of history I'd recommend coming here. FYI bar is cash only!

Oh my goodness! The best authentic Italian food! The ambiance is classy yet comfortable. The servers wear tuxedos and are very helpful and accommodating. We will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyI have been coming to restaurant for years.
The past couple of visits here have not been good. Seems as though they are much more interested in cramming in as many people as they can rather than focusing on delicious quality food. I made a reservation for my bf's birthday. We took the Saturday 4:00. Upon entering an almost empty restaurant, the owner attempted to seat us near the restroom. We ended up sitting near the entrance at a table for two because all of the tables in the back were set up for four or larger.Started off with serving stale bread! My bf ordered the seafood salad that came loaded with overwhelming garlic that repeated on him all night and upset his stomach. His veal sorrentino was below average. My arugula salad was light and refreshing. I ordered the pappardelle with veal special, also below average. The waiter said he would put a candle in the dessert and , of course , did not!! To top it off, they added $10.00 to the bill for paying with a credit card. This restaurant is really not worth the trip from anywhere. Far too many delicious restaurants to suffer through this one!

A legendary place that's family owned and has more movie and tv credits than most actors alive. The food is classic Italian American and delish. I even got to have secret homemade hot crushed red pepper flakes for my veal parm at the bar. The atmosphere and staff is what truly makes it special to the community and entire city.

Bamonte's is a traditional and "old school" Italian restaurant as many others have mentioned. I had a pleasant experience but it may not be everyone's cup of tea.Loves:+ Good food (faves included chicken parm and the fried calamari)+ Attentive servers and good service+ Diverse crowd, from old to young and dates to group outingsNot so love:- Decor could be updated- No beanies allowed to be worn inside, lolWhile this is a favorite Italian spot for some of my friends, I found it to be fall a bit short of the hype. Still good overall but Williamsburg houses many fantastic Italian restaurants.

Would have loved to give this a better rating. So to preface, I almost never include service as a part of the rating and will not here; it was fine.I sifted through Yelp reviews to look for reoccurring "favorites" and settled on the Eggplant Rollatini and Pork Chops alla Bomante.Eggplant Rollatini: super basic, not bad but nothing incredible, really unsure why this was given so much praise by one reviewer. I understand this is Italian American fare, and appreciate the marinara, but there was not much to the dish. Per usual, the eggplant is entirely covered up, taste-wise, and you're left with copious amounts of ricotta. If that's your thing, cool, but this really was a super basic, standard app.Pork Chops alla Bomante: I was lead to believe these would be super tender. They were not. Pork chops are tough to get tender, or rather, they tend to be tough (see what i did there). So that claim by another reviewer proved to be false. The vinegar peppers were the best part. The accompanying potatoes actually had the best flavor of the entire meal. The green beans beside it were inedible. I actually considered spitting them out. Mushy green beans take me back to many bad childhood meals, so maybe my own trauma came into play here, but they were utterly awful. Normally I don't count decor, but if I did, I might add a star. Lovely atmosphere but disappointing food. Sorry to be a bearer of bad news.

Just tried to order take-out and abruptly told kitchen was backed-up and they are not taking any orders. Wonder if they'd refuse customers at the door also. I think better service and politeness would serve them better but maybe additional business is not wanted as they have had a surge in recent weeks as customers have returned. Hope their other service is better than their phone service!

My sister wanted an authentic chicken parm and as an Italian food lover myself I aimed to find something both authentic and delicious. Enter Bamonte's. When we got here the lights were low and the restaurant was almost deserted. An older gentleman reading a newspaper at the bar greeted us with, "Can I help you ladies?" I foolishly asked, "Are you all open?" He smiled and nodded and took us to the end of the bar which opened into a dining room. "Take any of these tables," he said as he gestured to the right wall. The restaurant is set in the same decor it's had since the 50's. There are cooks in the back laughing. The atmosphere is unmatched. With eyes bigger than our stomachs, we started with the fried calamari and spedini Romano. It was we delicious. I ordered a bottle of moscato for the table. The waiter came and popped the bottle and poured a glass for each of us. For my entree I had the handmade ravioli and my sister had the chicken parm. Both were excellent and the best ravioli and chicken parm we had ever had. They also serve these seasoned potatoes and green beans with every entree. To die for. I really wanted to try the chocolate mousse for dessert, but my eyes were telling me yes while my body was telling me no. The portions were so big, we had plenty to take back and relive our experience with every single bite. Most definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the real deal! Old school and historic.
When you walk in the place is hopping with waiters in jackets. The host welcomes you and a reservation is suggested. You are greeted by a waiter who will tempt you with some delicious descriptions of the menu. Ours tonight was amazing. Friendly and welcoming and adjusting our orders as we requested. There is antipasto both warm and cold. Salads like the tri-Color and calamari which was crisp with a delicious red sauce. Dinners range from pastas, special home made fussili with shrimp and sun dried tomatoes and arugula in an olive oil garlic sauce to fresh fish to linguine with clams and more. Our waiter always helping out and serving everyone the broccoli rabe. Save room for the tiramisu, fresh and delicious. Bamontes is old school at its best!

Top-notch service, incredible and unforgettable food, and wonderful service. Just be aware this place is -proper-. No tank tops, no hats inside, no booty shorts.

Totally old school restaurant, from decor , pictures on the walls . Waiters in tuxedos and great Italian flair. Appetizers were delicious and each entree was better than the next ! Will definitely go back!

Be the first to ReplyExcellent people watching and service was great.
A refreshingly well priced and simple wine menu with good options that don't break the bank. The food isn't going to blow anyone away however it's about the overall experience. We went on a fairly busy Friday and had a lot of fun. Would go back in a group ps the desserts were great.
Be the first to ReplyHad the pasta with crab sauce.
Completely tasteless. Had linguini and white clam sauce- like chewing rubber. Overrated. Will never return.
