Service was reluctant - place was quiet
My friend from out-of-town and I went here because of the good reviews. There were few customers that night , and the waiter was reluctant to fulfill my drink order: I asked for some standard whiskey and soju, but he paused and thought, and said the restaurant did not want to open a whole new bottle, which is strange, because the restaurant is also a bar. Just got some standard drinks, and left after half an hour. Didn't order food, but my friend and I both would recommend other nearby establishments.
Be the first to ReplyAlmost got hit with tip fraud-- BE CAREFUL!
A few friends and I came to Bangia right at opening on a Friday night and ordered the grilled pork belly, spicy pork belly & fried rice in stone pot, and the soy garlic wings. The food wasn't the best; the wings were dry and the fried rice was one of the saltiest things I've ever tasted. The service, as well, wasn't the best. We had to wait almost 10 minutes at the front of the store at opening time before someone would come and seat us. Even after we were seated, we still had to wait another 10-15 minutes just to get water. We thought this was a bit strange considering we were the only party there at the time. However, the real problem occurred after we left the restaurant. I paid for the bill using my card and the total (after writing in tip) came out to $69 for three people. A few days later, upon logging into my banking app, I was shocked to see that Bangia had charged me $971.88 for the meal, $902.88 MORE than the $69 total that I had indicated on the receipt. I always make an effort to make the tip and total very clear when filling out the receipts: I always write the "cent" numbers smaller and underline them, so there should be no room for confusion, let alone to get charged $902.88 extra. That evening we contacted the restaurant and spoke with the manager, who said that he knew that he had made a mistake, but was "waiting for us to contact him", before fixing his mistake and issuing a refund. What if I never noticed, and as a result, never contacted him? Was he planning on just keeping the extra $900, even if he KNEW that a mistake had occurred? I don't recommend this restaurant at all-- there's no point in risking an extra $900 charge on your card to eat mediocre food and receive mediocre service. There are a ton of better options in Koreatown.

We had the pot of noodles with bacon, sausages, and tofu plus their spicy chicken rice with mozzarella.

What a great place! It's REAL Korean street food at it's very best and I felt like I was back in Seoul! The atmosphere downstairs is cozy, the service is prompt and friendly and the portions and prices are amazing! Drinks can be pricey but stick to beer, order the chicken with chili sauce and mozzarella and the army stew and you'll have enough food for 2+ days! Yum yum!

We ordered the Chicken of Andong and the Army Stew. The Army Stew was fantastic while the Chicken of Andong was very good. The location is in a dark basement area, but it is nicely decorated. We were quickly seated and initially waited on, but after that no one ever checked back and we had to hail wait staff whenever we needed anything.

Awesome food Awesome service Im caucasian. Generally that results in a different level of service at Korean restaurants. It is very subtle, and if you had not lived in Korea you would not notice it. All Bangia staff were excellent, kind and very Respectfully. The food was fantastic and the complementary egg boil was unique and delicious. Donโt miss this one, go in and enjoy. The menu may be a little intimidating to the uninitiated, just ask questions if you donโt know what you want to order.
Be the first to ReplyDelicous korean food!
The entrance to this restaurant/ bar is kinda hidden, so you might not see it right away and walk by it. The food is delicious! The Rolled Cheese Omelet is so tasty! Their dishes are for the Korean crowd - so if it says spicy on the menu = it's really spicy!! So be aware. Love the Army stew - the noodles were so soft and addicting! Definitely worth trying out if you're in the area. Come early - otherwise, you might not get a table.
