Bar Yoku Christchurch Reviews from The Last Year
Best Meal in New Zealand!
The best meal we had in New Zealand! We had dinner one night and returned the next day at lunch to enjoy more of their delicious and perfectly seasoned food. We sat at the grill and watched the busy staff prepare foods, grill and fry in a compact kitchen. We had sashimi salmon - freshest ever, cucumber salad with cilantro with dressing so good we kept the plate to drag other bites through, tempura vegetables (squash and broccoli) perfectly cooked and not greasy with a delicious sauce, grilled swordfish that had been swimming earlier that day seasoned with simple and complementary seasonings, beef wagyu skewers served as we like - rare - that literally melted in your mouth, and their extremely interesting sushi tacos (we had soft shell crab and prawn) which were nori battered and fried in the shape of a taco shell with sushi rice and the protein with a delicious sauce - innovative and delicious! Don't miss this place!
Slowwwwww service
Was not a good experience. Food took over an hour to come out and was drip feed. So some people were finished before others even came out.. They forgot 3 peoples food also. Ended up going through the maccas drive thru on the way home.
Awesome food in such a cool setting
We found this by accident but what an experience! Located in a former engineering factory which they share with a bakery, cafe and tapas bar, this place is fit out to look like the little eateries you find in the back streets of Tokyo with food just as good. Sit inside for an interesting dark vibe or outside on the plant filled patio or, if you can, book the teriyaki bar seats (only 4 seats I think) which overlook the kitchen. Everything on the menu is awesome but don't dare leave without trying the sushi taco's, though the skewers run a close second. Their sake collection is serious and can be dangerous if you don't have a lot of will power! The service is informed and efficient. It's such an unusual eatery, in an unusual setting and it serves up on all counts. If you are visiting the Garden City don't miss it, and if you live here visit once and you'll become a regular (as we did)!
Amazing evening
What a fantastic experience! Nothing to fault. Everything was beyond delicious. We ate too much, drank too much sake … but probably the best evening I’ve had in years. Food was amazing (not to mention the high quality sakes) and the service was friendly, attentive and on the ball. Great location too with an intimate set-up, ideal for celebrating couples, though I’ve seen quiet a few bigger groups there too. It was our first time there (since we don’t live in Christchurch) but definitely will be our fist choice when we go to Christchurch next. Thanks to the chefs and staff for an unforgettable foodie experience
Yoku yum!
We had a team dinner at Bar Yoku for 7 and chose the $55 chef's menu option with the addition of a Sushi taco. The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful and complimented by an extensive drinks list. Great experience all around.
Amazing experience
This spot is an excellent choice for both lunch and dinner. The food here is truly exceptional! The staff is not only friendly but also incredibly efficient. Their menu offers a wide range of options, from sashimi to skewers. My personal favourites, though, are the sushi tacos. I've never tasted anything quite like them – they're a must-try!
Fabulous, FABULOUS food
Without any doubt the best Japanese restaurant I’ve ever been outside of Japan. Everything we had was delicious, the most impressive dish being the raw wagyu beef.
Sure to Delight!
I visited Bar Yoku recently in Christchurch on a friend's recommendation. By far the best dining experience I have had in New Zealand in a long time. Everything about it from the cool venue at the Welder, amazing food and killer service. I've raved about it since and everyone I advised to go we're grateful for the shout. Just go. It's honestly awesome!

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
