The Bear
Beautiful historic Inn and park. Loved our trip! The park still had trails closed due to storm damage from July 2023. But the walk around the lake was beautiful and the small zoo a fun and well done activity.

Overall very nice facility but if you want to bring your pet, make sure your dog is not high strung or prone to barking. The Overlook Lodge is not the quietest place to stay with your pet and if theyโre easily upset, they will bark a lot and you will be asked to leave.

Beautiful setting and views! Staff so nice, friendly and welcoming. Loved it. Rooms had a very rustic lodge feel which was very fitting for the environment. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable. Great stay for the price. Really enjoyed our stay. The Inn is a gorgeous historic building. Would come back without a doubt.

From past to present. One of my happy places for sure. Friendly staff particularly at restaurant 1915 went above and beyond to make sure we had gluten free options, and the pastry chef even made a special pistachio crusted cheesecake that was divine! I felt like an honored guest.

1st vacation after retirement. Had not been to the park since a child, talked about it to my family, but never managed to get there. The peacefulness of the grounds. Some trail/paths were closed, the ones that were open were in great shape & park maintenance was noticeable while out & about the park
Be the first to ReplyHistoric Hotels usually have a much higher level of accomodation, service and food. Especially the guest rooms were poor
Guest rooms were of a very low standard, like a roadside motel without any feeling of beeing at a Historic Hotel or mountain lodge. Fireplace in the hall at the Overlook was cold the entire evening we stayed there. Even after several calls to reception nobody came up to light the fire. We left after only one night with a feeling of never wanting to come back. They really have to rise the standard or lower the prices at the Inn

This is such a beautiful setting. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We had an amazing time. It has the vibe of one of the old big camps. The views are beautiful. Can't wait to come back. We walked the zoo trail. It had some wonderful lookout spots. There were many animals to see. The reptile house was a cool little spot with fish, turtles and snakes. They had bears, a bob cat, a coyote and a porcupine to name a few animals on the walk. There are also a couple little museums along the way. If you are going with children they would love it.

Stayed at the Inn during a weekday and utilized the Spa abd stay special. Price discount is average. Nothing special. Clean and updated rooms. Not much to do during the winter. Should think about including indoor activities for winter.

Had an amazing time in our room and stay. We loved the view of hessian lake from our window and the Romance package was cute. All staff was friendly and helpful. Grounds are gorgeous. Looking forward to being able to hike here again!
Be the first to ReplyStunning view
Went with my husband to get away from the city. The view is absolutely stunning. The rooms were very clean, quiet and comfortable. Of course itโs not far from main building. The rooms itself has a mini fridge, a coffee maker and 2 bottles of water., hair dryer, and iron. There is no room service here which is a CON.

Loved it. Grew up in the area but live out of state now. Returned to visit family and this was convenient location and great place for walking and sightseeing. I wish we had more time to enjoy more of the park and amenities.
Be the first to ReplyNo frills stay with a great view
The room was clean and tidy. We had a great view of the lake, and were able to drink our morning coffee on the overlook balcony. Firewood was supplied for the common room fireplace. Single serve kuerig in room but no reservoir so it took a while to make 2 cups of anything. No access to hot water for tea so we had to run the kuerig with no pod to get hot water. Good water pressure and hot water for the shower

A great choice for a quick trip from the city for nature and quiet. We live in Brooklyn and it is an hour away! Although we stayed here in the off season (March) and some of the attractions were closed, nature trails and hiking are still available along with their restaurant and bar. And you can bring your pooch!
Be the first to ReplyA nice step into the past.
The Inn and cottages are a wonderful glimpse of earlier times in NY state. The park is outstanding. 1915 restaurant is excellent. (The Hikers cafe not so much) There are lots of hiking trails for different abilities.

The Bear Mountain In is beautiful. We made reservations for the main inn, however, the reservation was for a cottage. The gentleman at the desk kindly put us in the Lodge, which has a great view, however, is quite far from the main inn. If you go, make sure you are in the main inn. That's where the restaurant, merry go round, pool and all main attractions are. Also, the restaurant was closed and it is a very long ride to find a decent restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyNice Lodge-Like Ambiance
Had an enjoyable weekend stay at the Bear Mountain Inn (the main lodge). It's a lodge-like environment with some nice conveniences. Enjoyed an evening having a drink sitting near the large fireplace in the restaurant. Bartender and wait staff was very friendly. Room was spacious. Would definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyUncomfortable stay at Stone Cottages
We stayed at the Stone Cottages. The mattress was hard and lumpy, the toilet was leaking water, and the room was freezing cold all night (there is no thermostat in the room). There's also no chair or dresser to put your belongings on, so you have to put everything on the floor. Would not recommend.

A 3 day getaway - Easy check in Delicious Breakfast @ the Cafe Dinner @ 1915 - should have notices on the 1st floor with their daily schedule Desk staff - told us 1915 opens at 2pm - it didn't open until after 4 obviously park in front of the Inn - so you can get your room # that you will need at the booth Parking lot booth - no notice that guest do not pay. they do have a sign in log for guests Adventures Skating, Dinners, Drinks, parks & more
Be the first to ReplyVery dissappointing
poor, very dissappointing, hardest mattress we have ever experienced, Our GPS sent us to the wrong address because this is the address listed on their brochure, but is not the address for the checkin. and the signs at night are not illuminated which show the checkin address. Also the bathroom door does not open all the way because it hits the sink.,the smallest bathroom we have ever seen.

I am very happy with my stay at Bear Mountain. The facilities were great and so was the staff. I will be coming back. The price of the room and restaurant are reasonable. I plan on coming back in the fall for a few nights.
