Such a good find.
A delicious, friendly, and affordable place to get Indian food in New York City. Staff are super nice. They refill your water all the time. The butternut squash soup is particularly delicious.
Be the first to ReplyA reliably tasty Indian join in midtown.
Their vindaloo is truly spicy, but not so spicy it's inedible. Their saag is fresh and bright, not overly salted. Naan is also warm and chewy. Great service in house but also quick delivery. Definitely a no frills joint but that only adds to its charm!

Loved it here! Space is cramped but service and food are great. Affordably priced prix-fix menu, kind staff, and beautiful decor. Sometimes the staff rushes you so they can turn over tables but I usually go when it's very busy so that's understandable. Affordable and good Indian food is rare but they nailed it. I especially love the pakora (came with spicy chutney) and kheer. I think an option for spice adjustment (as most of the dishes are pretty mild) would be good.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and service very good as well.
Not very easy to find. Don't let stairs to restaurant stop you. Second floor dining room very comfortable .
Be the first to ReplyCame for lunch on a weekday.
The restaurant is up the stairs and the dining space is a bit narrow, but we got a table. There are two lunch specials, 3 courses for $27 or $18 for an appetizer and entree (fewer options). We did the $18 menu with the samosas and lamb vindaloo (+$1), which we asked for spicy and a side order of naan. Everything was tasty and the vindaloo was quite spicy, they did not hold back, which we appreciated. The portions were good and come with rice. The service was relatively quick and overall it is a good deal. As space is limited, I would come earlier to get a table or order takeout.

Huge fan of Indian cuisine and Bengal Tiger surpassed expectations. Reasons for 5 stars: - everything we tried was delicious! The Keema samosa, the saag lamb, the Chana masala, the aloo gobi, the chai...all chefs kiss! We all sampled each other's dish and everyone loved everything! Even as leftovers the next day...still delicious! - the Lunch prices were GREAT! It was perfect for a Group co-working lunch outing. I think it was $18 For an appetizer and entree which is amazing, especially for NYC. - if you arrive around 11:30...not crowded at all. - they adjusted the spice level based on the request but was still flavorful! - service was great and once you get inside the space is quite cute. Will definitely be back when I'm the area!
Be the first to ReplyHoly spicy.
The chicken tikka masala was so spicy that I couldn't even taste anything and I had to shower after because I was so sweaty. The naan was great and the rice was cooked perfectly. Just wish it hadn't been so spicy so I could've enjoyed it
Be the first to ReplyI will try to give this place as fair as possible review.
It's New York, you literally have a hard time deciding where to eat because of the plethora of restaurants in the midtown area. I opted for something different on this occasion. My thought was "you can get a burger anywhere, you can get lobster anywhere, you can get steak anywhere, you can get Italian anywhere. What you can't get is good Indian food" hence why I chose Bengal Tiger. The restaurant itself is quite tight (welcome to New York real estate) and was extremely busy when I walked in so I waited 15 minutes for a table. It is first come first serve so don't try making reservations. When I was seated, my order was taken promptly. I went for a mango lassi to try it out. It was average at best and I have had better but nonetheless I was all about the food. My appetizer was the Bombay bhel and having been to India many times, I can say it was spot on. For the entree I chose the chicken makhni/butter chicken (with regular spice level) accompanied with rice and garlic naan. The chicken makhni was good and hit the spot. The garlic naan was kinda meh (it's supposed to have a good deal of butter, garlic and some cilantro for flavor according to me). The service was fine. Understand that this is a busy restaurant and they're turning tables constantly so don't expect a high level of service. All in all, I enjoyed my experience and would definitely come back to try something else.
Be the first to ReplyThis month I have definitely been trying more affordable
This month I have definitely been trying more affordable restaurants and deals and I must hop on and agree with the internet, @bengaltigerindianfood has a great dinner option that includes a 3 course pri-fix for $27! My friend and I got - vegetable samosa - keema samosa - Chicken Tikka Masala (i know I'm basic) - Chicken Makhni (we both actually liked this one slightly more) - Gulab Jamun (I've never tried this and loved the texture. It was quite sweet though!) + we added garlic naan Absolutely delicious and affordable dinner. I would definitely come back. 4.7/5
Be the first to ReplyI came here with a friend and we both got the prix menu.
It is three courses (appetizer, entree, and dessert) for $27. We ordered the keema samosa, pakora, lamb curry and vindaloo, and kheer. Service was extremely fast. They took our order quickly and served us quickly too. The water was constantly refilled. The staff were friendly. The appetizers were really delicious. I enjoyed the keema samosa a lot. The lamb curry was good, the lamb was very tender. The rice to curry ratio is a little off. There's a lot more curry than rice. We took our leftover curry to go. The vindaloo was a bit spicy so I didn't try much but my friend enjoyed it. But the staff did let us know multiple times that it will be spicy. The kheer was okay. Nothing special but not too sweet which was nice. Food is really affordable for the area even without getting the prix fix menu. I was comparing the prices after and it seems to be about the same. When you order off the prix fix menu, the appetizer portions are larger. I don't know about the other portion sizes. I think the entree portion size was probably about the same as the regular menu. I would say feel free to just order from the regular menu and mix and match since you don't really get much of a discount ordering the prix fix menu. Ambiance is a little noisy and dark. It was pretty noisy from people talking, babies crying, people watching videos on their phones. Space is a pretty small too. Overall: the food was pretty good! I especially enjoyed the keema samosa. Prices are affordable. Didn't get to try the naan this time so would love to try it next time.
Be the first to ReplyDelish! Hospitable service and great food.
This is a gem of a spot! The only drawback was they didn't have any beer. So if you would like beer, bring your own and they allow you to drink it with your meal.
Be the first to ReplyI came here with a two of my friends on a Wednesday night.
We got there around 6:15 and waited about 15 minutes for a table. I don't believe they take reservations. Almost as soon as we sat down, we were asked if we were ready to order. Other than feeling rushed, everything else about our dinner was fantastic. I ordered the lamb korma. It was delicious, the portions were generous, and everything was affordable.

Friendly staff, good food, and this place is a well-oiled machine that gets you in and out ( without rushing you) with a smooth, efficient system. Water was constantly being filled, and the staff was super attentive. Usually, we do takeout bc it's not terribly big and hard to get in, but we went on the earlier side this time. One of us ordered from the prefixed menu (app, entree, dessert) and others ordered off the main menu. Staff checked on us constantly and asked if we needed anything often. They also asked if we had any food allergies, which we thought was a bonus. Thx for the excellent service, too. I'm sure we will be back soon again. Enjoy.

Great service. Quantities are large. Staff is friendly and helpful. I always eat here or get delivery whenever I am in NY.

This place is definitely worth that wait!! We got here a little bit before 7pm on a Saturday night and was able to be seated in 20-30 minutes. The line started to quickly build up after 7pm. They are first come first serve only. The service is quick and it's very much in and out since it's such a small space. The 3 course prix fix menu for $27 is the way to go. You get to sample an appetizer, entree, and dessert. The portions were more than enough to fill us up. I would recommend trying the keema lamb samosa or pakora (onion and spinach fritters) to start. The chutneys were so fresh and delicious. The tikka masala entree was made to perfection. I definitely recommend ordering a side of naan to accompany the curries! The vindaloo is SO SPICY. Would definitely NOT recommend it if you can't tolerate anything below a spice 9 out of 10 - because that's the minimum heat level they can do on the vindaloo (lol). My husband got the lamb vindaloo and he can usually tolerate extremely spicy foods, but he was sweating trying to eat it all. He had to douse the vindaloo with a side of raita (yogurt sauce) to be able to eat it. Otherwise, everything came out super fast and was delicious! For desserts we loved the rasmalai (cheese discs in thickened milk) and the kheer (cashew nut rice pudding). I would 10000% come back and try the other entrees and curries!
Be the first to ReplyShort wait and well worth it.
Delicious food at reasonable prices with pleasant, efficient service. Next time I'm in the City I'll be eating there again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, service, and fun vibe.
Lamb in vindaloo was tender and juicy, best I've had.

Great service and great food! We constantly had our drinks refilled. They were honest about helping us to order just the right amount of food and not over order. We would definitely go back!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and warm ambiance.
We enjoyed the saag paneer, butter chicken and lamb vindaloo. The naan was also delightful (garlic and cheese). Everything was delicious and the service was friendly. Don't forget to order the Samosa to start!

Great set deal! They have a set for appetizer, entree, and dessert for $25 which is so worth in midtown manhattan. And I believe this deal runs the whole day!they were pretty packed around dinner time. We got the set deal and ordered chicken tikka masala with naan on the side. Everything, from appetizer to dessert was so flavorful!

Came here around 6:30pm on a weeknight with a party of four, and it was delicious time! We all got the set menu ($25), and it was worth every bite with so much curry, rice, delicious appetizers (I got the samosas), and dessert (loved the rice pudding). They do not take reservations, and they seat first-come-first-serve when your entire party is here, so make sure you either come early or are ok waiting for a table to clear up. The staff did a wonderful job making sure our party knew when we might be seated, and was polite with letting us know that they had other parties waiting after us when we were done eating, and they were attentive throughout the meal. Highly recommend for a delicious and comfortable experience.

Was really looking forward to our dinner after reading the great reviews. I will start by saying that the service was phenomenal. We started with the samosas which were delicious, however, it was downhill from there . We ordered several dishes and they lacked flavor and were bland. I ordered the lamb korma which was underseasoned tremendously. I had high hopes and was disappointed.

I almost didn't want to review this restaurant because you can't make reservations and I wanted to keep this gem all for myself. So So good. The Prix Fix menu can't be beat. $25 for appetizer - main - dessert. The servers are very transparent about the level of spice. Water flows freely and BYOB. What more can you ask for? I'll be back again and again and again.
