Birdie G's Santa Monica Reviews from The Last Year
Spent one hour here.
Arrived feeling great, ready for some cocktails and a snack at the bar. But left with a really bad stomach ache. The oil they used tonight was so bad or there was cross contamination. Service was off putting- I tried to get recommendations and have a conversation w/ the bartender but was shut down and decided to go with a beer instead. I was very happy I chose a canned beer after seeing their behind bar practices.
My fiancée and I went to Birdie G's for drinks and food
My fiancée and I went to Birdie G's for drinks and food after a show at Garage Theatre as it was nearby, looked cute and theres quite a bit of hype around this restaurant. I will say the experience left a lot to desire from beginning to end. It started with us standing awkwardly at the entrance waiting to be greeted, we almost considered leaving to try a different spot just around the corner, but we ended up taking a seat at their bar. We were greeted by their bartender and we asked her which drinks she was currently excited about making from the menu. She responded by saying she was into making whatever we were wanting to have, which honestly set the mood for the rest of the evening and I would dare say left a bad taste in my mouth. Talking about bad tastes, we decided to start with an app of fries and their aioli, which left us both severely unimpressed. As industry professionals we can tell when a restaurant does not change their frying oil often enough, and these fries sealed the deal for us, not only giving us a stomach ache but also ensuring that we would not order any other food from the menu. Lastly, as we were enjoying our beers, I caught a server pouring left over wine from a carafe served at a table right back into a bottle behind the bar, and this really was the last nail on the coffin for me. I was very happy I had decided to purchase a canned beer and not wine as I was considering their orange wine at first. Overall, the experience felt unwelcoming, lacking flavor and standards, as well as under-par for the price, would most definitely not recommend.
I came here last week for my bday with dear friends and it
I came here last week for my bday with dear friends and it did not impress. No parking, expensive valet Loud and cold inside, very slow to get us drinks even water. Food was a total disappointment. The relish tray had lovely onion dip, incredible tomatoes and ice plant but radishes carrots etc biter, and unpleasant. Corn bread dry and tiny Pickle chicken dry and one note Steak SALTY - my friends thought it was OK but I couldn't eat any! Fries well cooked but the aioli just tasted like mustard Chocolate cake average I wanted to love this place but I couldn't and wouldn't recommend to friends expensive and over hyped.
Birdie G's exceeded my expectations.
Located in kind of a weird spot - upon entering you are transported to the cutest date spot, cool family dinner and more. The service was spot on. Not too aggressive and came to us at the perfect moments. Explained everything well and suggested awesome plates. I really didn't care for a pickled veggie dish starter BUT we got it and it was my favorite thing among the entire meal. The most unique vegetables I've ever had together. And the best French onion dip. Highly impressed. The cocktails were cute and clever. Cornbread was delicious. The steak and brisket mmm and lastly we had a chocolate mousse and the petal pie. I loved this place and can't wait to come back.
My favorite restaurant in Los Angeles, hands down.
I have severe celiac disease and cannot have anything gluten, even cross-contamination, and this restaurant is super accommodating and safe for me! I go specifically for the pickle chick, which is fried chicken in a pickled sauce. It's DELICIOUS and I cannot recommend it more. They fry it in a separate fryer (so no cross-contamination for me!) and use potato flour. ** they have a limited amount of the dish every day, so I recommend coming here a little earlier for dinner to make sure you get some
After the last experience they weee nice enough to invite
After the last experience they weee nice enough to invite me back in. Great ambience and great service this time- however rockfish was not cooked, and had to be sent backs They did take it off the check without me asking. It was super super fishy too, and needed all the salt and sauce or else it was not good. They weirdly put down all the serving things before the dishes came like with the appetizers? Very odd. The artichoke was great. Not coming back anytime soon really wanted to leave something more positive- great service tho.
Loved Birdie G's!!!!! The food was so good I can't wait to
Loved Birdie G's!!!!! The food was so good I can't wait to return. I came here with a girlfriend, we had a reservation but when we arrived our table wasn't ready. We went to the bar and ordered drinks. The bar was standing room only and very busy. I ordered a Sky's the Limit. Our drinks were very good, I just wish there was more breathing room at the bar but this place is popular for a reason. We ended up waiting 20-30 minutes for a table. I didn't really mind because we had time, but just note this is not the place to go when you have a tight schedule. We were seated outside but there were heaters so we stayed warm and it was pretty quiet which I appreciated. Our waiter was super nice and helpful, great service. I partly came here for the fried pickle chicken but they were sold out. They only make 14 a day, which hopefully the restaurant increases. Hopefully we can try it next time. We started with the BEETS WITH DELI FLAVORS. This is yellow beets with smoked trout roe & horseradish cream. It was very light and refreshing. 10/10!! Will definitely order again. RICE FLOUR BATTERED MUSHROOMS- delicious. Not too greasy and perfect. BROWN BUTTER & MATZO DUMPLINGS- this was my favorite thing we ordered. The dumplings were the perfect consistency and so rich with the brown butter. Can't wait to have again. Not pictured but we got the LAMB A LA SALESS with crispy rice, fenugreek, black lime, beet molasses, dill and saffron. The lamb was indulgent and it was delicious!!! The meat was so tender and cooked just right. The crispy rice I'm still thinking about it, was so crunchy and had amazing flavor. So so good. We finished the meal with the ROSE PETAL PIE and it was incredible. I don't normally like jello consistency but I loved this pie! Delicious meal overall.
Fairly disastrous.
They staggered entrees as if we were all sharing, but they knew we weren't. So half the table was finished while the other half hadn't started. The food was mainly heavy comfort food, and the imaginative-sounding dishes that raised our hopes ended up dashing our hopes--they just didn't taste great. Too much sugar--lavender almonds are a nice idea but coated in sugar (should be on the dessert menu). Even the veggie dip was very sweet. It's a nice space, but the evening was frankly embarrassing because we brought discerning guests.
The setting is fine.
The staff were fine. But the actual menu was ridiculously limited and over the top expensive. $65 for a whole chicken?! Two Matzo dishes? I was with five other people and after one round of mediocre drinks, we all got up and left for another place.
After 2 years we returned to Birdie G's for a Friday date
After 2 years we returned to Birdie G's for a Friday date night. It did not disappoint! Everything was phenomenal this time as well, just like 2 years ago. Kevin took wonderful care of us. He was not only knowledgeable about the dishes and cocktails but also very kind! The meal was 10/10, every dish was on point! The pickle tray is a staple on the menu and is a must have! The cocktails were the best cocktails I had in a long time on the Westside. Cannot wait to return! Thank you!
Birdie G’s
Not sure why I never came here before. I’ve been in Santa Monica for years and this was my first time. I wish I found this restaurant earlier. Very Santa Monica vibes with great service and food. We ordered the steak frites with au poivre sauce in the side but the half rockfish was the winner. I was confused what and why just half a fish but I understood once it came out. It was humongous but very tasty. Lemon butter with capers (a bit on the heavy side with the butter but still delicious) Only negative was the $18 parking fee. That’s almost NYC prices
Fantastic gem
What a find! Tucked away in a presumably former warehouse, this is a beautiful place with some incredibly delicious dishes that I have never had anywhere else. And a great and pretty reasonable wine list. And it was very kid friendly. We sat in the restaurant - but terrace was lovely as was heard. Best place we ate in a week in Santa Monica and we ate out a lot!. It’s only a $10 Uber from the ocean front and worth the short trip.
One of the better places in Santa Monica Just James Beard nominated
The spot great for casual night out. The Rock Fish is the star highly recommend. Cool place, best food we had in the area. The Rose petal pie reminded of jello dishes of the past
Better than TripAdvisor Reviews Suggested
We were taken here by friends when staying in the Santa Monica on a mid week evening. It’s in an odd industrial location, but once inside the industrial vibe is appealing. The menu is quite confusing, but once you realise that most of the plates are for sharing, and most of the pretentious descriptions are simple to understand dishes then the experience becomes more enjoyable and less expensive. After a couple of starters (the cornbread was very small) we basically split a lemon chicken and fried chicken dish between 4 and along with a big side of fries had a wonderful comfort food dinner. Wines seemed expensive- $23 for a glass of French Sancerre was outrageous. I liked the QR code system to get the car back from valet parking at the end. Paid on phone including tip so no scratting about (British term) with dollar bills in the dark!
Comfort food meets eclectic
One of our foodie friends insisted that we visit one of his favorite restaurants - Birdie G's. He went a lot before the pandemic and was excited to come back. We quickly understood why Birdie G's is a fave. For our table of 4, we ordered the following to share: matzo bread, relish tray, Birdie's caesar, open faced tomato sandwich, pork & chicken liver terrine, rice flour-battered mushrooms, brown butter & matzo dumplings, and the pickle chick. We had to pass on dessert - we were beyond (ful)filled. The big hits were the matzo bread, pork & chicken liver terrine, and the pickle chick - even though we enjoyed all the dishes and had no problem cleaning all our plates. Our server was both personable and attentive and made our first visit quite enjoyable. Our reservations were at 6:30, and at that time, the restaurant was about half full. At 7:00, it seemed like everyone showed up and the restaurant quickly filled up. Our server came over to our table and encouraged us to put in our food order "now to beat the rush." If you're looking for some new tastes and approaches to traditional comfort food, then add Birdie G's to your list. You won't be disappointed.

I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

You should probably cancel prior to the cancellation date per the cancellation policy. I would imagine you would only get reimbursed for a sold listing if you happen to be charged?

My first sale took about a week. But as the other commenter said stay ontop of your cancellation windows. There’s no reimbursement for those so make sure you cancel in time then just try again.
