Wonderful surprise find
One of the best dining experiences we had in a very long time. We are from CT and touring Australia with a group. After 18 days, we arrived in Sydney. We asked our hotel concierge at the Amora Jamison Sydney hotel for a recommendation of a mid range steak house. He highly recommended Bistecca as the first choice as it was the closest place to the hotel. We had no clue what to expect. Went to Bridge Street and saw a sign that says enter on Dalley street behind the building. We walked on Dalley street and almost missed the entrance as it is well hidden. Turns our the place is designed to be well hidden as a speakeasy. You had to walk down stairs and when you open the door you enter into a beautiful decorated bar, reminding you of a 1920s speakeasy Cafe. The restaurant is amazing. They serve a porterhouse steak by weight. We ordered a 16 oz steak cooked to perfection med rare and a side of their amazing deep fried Brussel sprouts with sour cream and cheese. Als9 had a carafe of outstanding Aussie red wine. One of the best dinners we had at very reasonable cost. So glad we were able to done without a reservation. Staff were incredibly friendly and efficient. You must try this place.
Be the first to ReplyA good steakhouse.
A great steakhouse in Sydney. We booked Bistecca after hearing raving reviews of the place. We were not disappointed per say, but also not WOW either. We came as a group of 6 guesgs. The food was good, I'm not gonna lie. The dining room was bustling and gave a good vibe to the place. But I just thing that all the good reviews hyped me up and when I was there; I came in with high expectations and left not so satisfied. No doubt the food was good, but I can't say it was exceptional. No photos either as they have a No phone policy. Good idea actually to ensure we all interact with one another. I honestly, would not come back again, but would definitely recommend to give this place a try at least once.
Be the first to ReplyTerrific experience that went beyond the hype! Highly recommended
Simply fantastic place to eat! The whole experience of having a few beers in the bar area, before going into the private dining room which is through the main dining room, was brilliant. Food is full of special touches, the service excellent & incredibly knowledgeable. The steak was magic as expected & the wine list will satisfy anyone. Highly recommended - Iโd love to go back one day!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing!!!!!
I donโt say this lightlyโฆ one of the best dining experiences of my life. Not just the food (which was amazing) but the room, service, atmosphere, wineโฆ. Everything. Iโm so glad I was able to dine here. Will be back every time in in Sydney

We had a party of 25 friends to celebrate a birthday at Bistecca in their private room and it was amazing! The food, service and atmosphere were all perfect. It could not have been a more perfect night.
Be the first to ReplySpecial dining experience
The restaurant was all I had hoped it would be as a surprise experience for my partner's birthday. I'm reluctant to reveal any more than has already been written about this restaurant so that you can also experience the same surprises on arrival and throughout the evening. Overall the experience is absolutely top notch. The entry through the laneway into the bar sets the tone for the evening: one of surprise with a hint of intrigue. The customer service was outstanding throughout the evening from the moment we arrived with everything well timed and handled perfectly. As for the food, well ... while the steak is certainly the star of the show, don't estimate the delicious sides. We chose two: the brussel sprouts and pumpkin dishes. They were both absolutely delicious, as was the bone marrow for entree. For an all round special dining experience, I highly recommend Bistecca.
Be the first to ReplyNice steak in the city
Lovely dinner in this restaurant in the centre of the city. The meat was outstanding, also the service was nice. Wine list big and well done.
Be the first to ReplyTaste just like the real thing - Fiorentina bisteca!
Situated in the basement of Bridge St. lie a cosy Italian steak house which serves bisteca in the vein of Florenceโs famous bisteca fiorentina! The T-bone steak is cooked to be just so tender and juicy! Taste so scrumptious! We also ordered side dish of roast potatoes with tonato sauce and charred brussel sprouts with sour cream and pecorino, and they are very delicious! And they have the best tiramisu in Australia - just the right balance of liquor, coffee and cream and so moist. Another surprise is the edible candle wax!
Be the first to ReplySuperb Family Dinner ๐
What an experience, family dinner prior to our daughterโs wedding, she managed the booking well in advance and prior to our arrival from USA. Yes entrance is through the back door which was a bit suspicious to start but once you get to the waiting room you can cense the ambiance and top notch service. We were seated (group of 7) at the Cellars room which helped to enhance the occasion. The Waiter was outstanding, and the food was superb, from the entries to the meet selection, cooked to the perfection, plus the wine selection suggested by the Sommelier have enhanced our appreciation and recognition of a superb family dinner. Will go back next time we back in Sydney for sure.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous Steak cooked over red hot coals
Recommended by a kiwi as the best Steak Restaurant in Sydney. We got a luncheon (love this word) reservation. Enter via an inauspicious door at street level into a subterranean bar area. A nice cocktail list which we didn't partake in due to a heavy Sunday lunchtime session the day before. You are shown through onto the dining area after locking away your phones. Nice starters and then T Bone Steak served with an array of sides. A huge tiramisu & coffee completed the feast. An extensive wine list proved to attractive and we were back in the saddle! Compared to London prices this restaurant is terrific value for money
Be the first to ReplyBest steak Iโve ever had!
I took my partner here for his birthday. The location is a fire door down an alleyway. As you enter and walk down the stairs youโre greeted with a warm welcome. Very cool ambience underground feel with mood lighting. They have a no phone policy to enjoy the food and each others company with no distractions so our phones were confiscated and locked up. Our waiter Frederico was excellent he was very attentive and friendly. We sat near the open coal cooking area. Good ventilation so you canโt smell the smoke. The beef fat candle appetizer was incredible my partner loved it so much he asked for more bread. We had 720g T Bone steak the eye fillet was cooked to perfection. Every bite melted in my mouth. We had Brussels sprouts and potatoes on the side both was full of flavour. My partner had whiskey sours which were quite strong. Food, ambience and service was great 10/10 would definitely go there again.

Honestly one of the best restaurants Iโve ever been to. The steak was immaculate and Iโve Bennett tasted sides that were this perfect. Entrees nice but not needed. Canโt wait you return. A whole โ experienceโ For sure. 10/10
Be the first to ReplyMust try for steak lovers
Honestly one of the best meal experience I have ever had. Service was great - gent with tats on head was so good with the wines managed to translate our lack of wine perfectly. Meat, starters and sides were all excellent and loved the Pandoraโs box touch. Will be the first place I come when I am in Sydney next. Fantastic!
Be the first to ReplySo good!
Itโs an outstanding dining experience. While steak is the main act, you can expect a few surprises along the way. We loved our evening at Bistecca, the food, wine, and service were amazing! If you can find a table, be ready to be delighted.

What can I say only AMAZING.. Cosy, intimate and welcoming. The steak is on another level, delicious and satisfying. The appetizers were gorgeous the perfect start to what was a beautiful meal.

Wow! Yum! Steak cut to size and cooked to perfection. Excellent service. An extensive wine list and delicious sides. This place has it all including an interesting location in an alley below ground. Perfect for a special occasion. I also loved that phones had to be locked away and no children allowed.

Best steak restaurant I have visited in a very long time. Great steak, great sides (polenta in particular), great atmosphere and sensibly priced. Will be eating here whenever in town.
Be the first to ReplyAs good as the hawksmoor in London
The title says it all the t bone steak is as good as the hawksmoor which is praise indeed tables are not easy to secure but we had lunch with my son and girlfriend who work next door .Itโs like a speakeasy very dark only 1 main course florentine steak which was really good cooked over charcoal 300/375 gr each plus a few sides and starters and 2 or 3 starters a bottle of decent house red a couple of cocktails and a digestive came to 420 dollars not cheap but this was top drawer no phones allowed is a novel idea especially in a city resterant
Be the first to ReplySensational
Iโve been to hundreds if not thousands of resteraunts all around the world. This was Possibly the most outstanding dining experiences of my life. Every possible attention to detail catered for with some quirky eccentric details ( like finding it) to keep you interested . I just ordered what was recommended by the maรฎtre d'. Steak was Devine. Sommelier service was sensational. Iโm not a push over, just look at my NEXT SYD review for a steak Restaraunt. Iโm overwhelmingly possitive on this restaurant. Just GO!!

Signage for this Italian dining space is visible from Bridge street, yet you enter from the rear lane, down a staircase, where you find yourself in a dimly lit old worldly bar. The loveliest of waiters greets you to discuss your booking. We didnโt have one, but went on a whim, hoping to squeeze into a cancellation or something. We were in luck, 2 hours later a table would be available, so we grabbed that. We went for a stroll and returned to the venue. You are seated in the front room for a drink (and you can also get snacks there) whilst they finalise your table. Another door leads to a similarly themed room, the dining room, with a flaming hearth covered in T-bone steaks as the centrepiece. Continental themed decor, geometric tiles and a bistro themed dining space, and visible cooking space. The staff are friendly and we find the whole experience a tad theatrical since you are whisked through the bar through doors into this space. They ask to take your phones so you enjoy the meal and conversation, but I keep mine (in case the babysitter needs me), and pull it out briefly for a quick snap, which isnโt allowed but we did anyway. Before your main meal, youโre given some foccacia to dip in the tableโs candle. The table candle is an edible beef-fat candle that melts as it is lit. Another of those theatrical additions to provide intrigue. Bistecca is all about steak, the bistecca alla fiorentina, or T-bone. The meat is from the NSW Riverine region. It is cooked over flaming coals on the visible grill in the centre of the restaurant. The steak is is cooked rare (though not crazy rare, so it was manageable for the medium-well orderer that I typically am). The meat comes via weight order, and a minimum 300 g order per person (I mean some of the weight is bone). We order the minimum at a cost of around $90. The piece is presented to us by the waiter, before he chucks it on to cook (given that it is takes about 45 mins). Order your sides so that your meat comes with a few accompaniments, as well as entrees to eat while you wait. Our favourite dish of the evening wasnโt even the steak, rather their gnocchi; ricotta dumplings with zucchini and a delicious tomato and cheesy sauce. We also opt for the bone marrow and both these dishes come out first. With the meat, we have the broccolini, which was enough for us with the 600g steak. We watch the chefs finish cooking the steak, taking it off the grill and slicing it up on the butchers block and seasoning it with salt, olive oil and then delivered to the table. The meat is tender, rare and of high quality, to be expected from a place that is all about this dish. We were too full so didnโt have dessert, but itโs there if you so please. There is a cocktail menu and extensive wine selection, so ask the Sommelier for tips. A venue certainly to venue once for the food and experience.
Be the first to ReplyYummy steak, good staff and great venue
Great steak restaurant in Sydney with cute bar attached. Only one steak variety available (florentine) - but lots of entrees and sides to pick from also! Worth a trip to the bar first

Be the first to ReplyBest steak experience
One of the best experiences I have had in a long time. Entry via the fire stairs in the back laneway, you enter into a gorgeous dimly lit bar and have a cocktail while waiting for your table (I can highly recommend their espresso martini made in house). You are then taken into the restaurant area which is absolutely beautiful, you lock your phone in a lock box upon entry to the restaurant area. Your steak takes about 30mins to cook so you order your size straight away (minimum of 600g and you can go as big as you want in increments of 100g and it does have the bone in) it is then cut at the open kitchen and shown to you before cooking starts. Then you watch it go over and get put on the charcoal grill. One of the most amazing and unique things here is they put a little candle on your table and it starts to melt, then they bring you over some in house made Focaccia which you dip into the melted candle. The candle is actually made of the steak fat, rosemary and garlic, cooked down and turned into candles. Then there is a great selection of entrees to snack on while you wait for your steak, which are very generous servings, we went for olives, bone marrow and pizza dough with dip. Our steak arrived sliced and medium rare ( you can pick your desired level of cooked) with a wedge of lemon, we had the tomato and watermelon salad and roasted potatos with a chilli aoli. We could not finish it all, so got it packed up for snacks later on. It does get exceptionally warm in the restaurant due to the open fire cooking the steak, so take that into consideration when dressing. Can't wait to go back again
