So so experience
I wouldn’t go back here most definitely not worth the money. Service was so so (at best), too loud and the food was fine but nothing special.
Be the first to ReplyHmm, no flare anymore!
Weak service, no one really cares. Place has turned into a glorified sit by the bar and eat a burger place.

We took a chance and returned after a previous, excellent couple of meals 9 years ago. We shared a porterhouse steak, it was excellent and perfectly cooked. The popovers were a new experience and were delicious. We didn't opt for a pudding but received a complimentary creme brûlée which was a perfect example of how it should be and impossible to resist.

I will never forget my meal at BLT……yes we had Wagyu with all the trimmings which of course just melted in the mouth but it was a find on the wine list which blew me away. I never read so few letters and integers with such expectations: Chateau Petrus 1970……..would it be spent? Would it have faded into a cadaverous memory of greatness? Absolutely not to both….still some fruit in this unctuous marvel. Definitely in my top 5 bottles ever…..bravo

We dined here for the birthday of our sins. Geat evening, great dinner. Filet mignon, steak, chocolate, watermelonsalad, cocktails, etc. All tasted very well. New York prices.

I didn’t know what to expect. Someone told me a waiter I knew worked there so I made reservations. We’ll the food was FABULOUS! The popovers are amazing. The crab cake (chef comp) was the best I ever had. The steak was superb and the passion fruits soufflé to die for. We were going to skip dessert but our wonderful waiter, Luis Romano said we had to try it — and he was right. Be sure to ask for Luis Romano when you go. He will make your visit extra special.
Be the first to ReplyHad dinner there twice…
… the first time and the last time.
We were escorted to our table by an efficient and pleasant hostess. The room is very low in ceiling a college football team change room is quieter than this place. Very little ventilation and no separation between table.
Our waiter came rather rapidly and after introducing himself took our drink orders. These came a very, very long time later. In the mean time three persons came to ask if we wanted still or sparkling water…
The waiter was obviously new in his job and untrained. 4 cuts of meat and had to ask which one was the leaner. Another person brought some liver paté with bread. Then another one brought some warm brioche bread with butter- both excellent. In total 7 very polite persons came to serve us. No harmony or follow up in the service as no one has the complete info.
The steaks (good meat) came not cooked to our taste, very salty. The vegetables which are sides as the steaks come bare on the plate were greasy and somewhat burnt.
It took 20 minutes to get our bill and another 15 to get our change.
In summary the food was 50/50. The service by friendly staff was overall lousy and the site was awful. Not what you expect from a restaurant priced above average.
Almost great…..but worth going
Bottom line for any review is whether or not I would return. Yes…..I would.
We visited during a “Restaurant Week” promotion because it was such a good deal. $39 for a three course dinner. So, in fairness to the restaurant, we don’t know whether or not our meal would have been better if ordering from their regular dinner menu.
The service was, at times, incredibly attentive and fluid, while at other times we felt completely ignored. Attribute that, perhaps, to the general lack of staffing that all restaurants are suffering with these days.
Ambience was modern and sleek, but lacking warmth and was moderately comfortable. Staff were all very nice and friendly. A good place to spend an hour or two, but maybe not three.
Let’s focus on the food……
Caesar salad was very tasty, non traditional recipe which included (I think) chopped chives. Not much cheese detected. We gave the salad 8/10
All guests receive fresh baked popovers served with soft butter and a salt shaker. Delicate crunchy perfection filled with wispy pillowy soft hot bread. I couldn’t imagine a better version. We’re tough critics and both awarded a perfect 10/10. Quite possibly the star feature of our dinner.
If you read the menu it claims to offer both Prime and Angus quality beef. I’m not sure which steaks are Prime, but ours weren’t. Angus is a very good type of Choice quality beef, but it’s not Prime. The main difference is textural, though slightly with taste too. The Angus beef had a significant “chew” rather than the “melt in your mouth” characteristic of a true Prime steak. Still, our strip steaks were delicious and enjoyable. Rating 8/10
Let’s talk about wine……
Wine is important, especially when eating steak. This is an area that could use a little improvement at BLT Steak. Speaking for a moment about the economics, the vast majority of wines are above the $200 mark. There are barely a dozen below $100. Although there is a decent “wine by the glass” option, it’s not the same as enjoying a full bottle of something unique. Notwithstanding the above, there is still something for everyone, just would be nice to see more. That said, if your wallet can handle it, you will find many wonderful examples of oenophile treasures throughout the extensive list.
Dessert was truly delicious. Pana cotta was light and refreshing. Ice cream sundae on par. Coffee was excellent (not always the case in some restaurants) and served with warmed milk. Rating 9/10
There are countless steak restaurants in NYC. This is a contemporary take compared to the traditional style clubby types. Would have been 5 stars if the steak was Prime. There must be incredible competition between restaurants to get their own fair share of the top quality beef. BLT Steak is raising the bar for Angus, but it’s still not Prime.
A five star dining experience.
My husband and I had a 6 pm reservation at BLT last night. We also had tickets to a 7:30 event at the Lincoln Centre. We let the staff know upon arrival that we were under a time constraint and they were wonderfully accommodating. It would have been lovely to have had the opportunity to take our time over dinner because from start to finish the experience at BLT was fabulous. Hands down, the best steak we’ve ever had and, as we’re in our 60’s, there have been a lot of steaks.
Beyond the food (all of if wonderful), the service was impeccable and unobtrusive. Five stars from start to finish. Thank you BLT.
Always Reliable
Make sure you try the Popovers, an absolute must. Eat it hot, put some butter on it and enjoy.
This is a great option for lunch or dinner for business or just to impress people.
Great steak, nice sides and a very good wine list.
A great place loved by the locals
A great place that is a favorite among the local executives working in midtown. A convenient and reliable venue with good food, good drinks, and good atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyStill one of the finest Steaks in NYC
We had dinner at the temporary location on Lexington Ave- 57th is closed for renovations for 3 months-
The Popovers are the magnificent starter/ followed up by the finest Shrinp Cocktails in town- the Kansas City 20oz steak is great for sharing- medium rare & charred on the outside is perfection- no need for steak sauce- great drinks, wine by the glass on the expensive side/ top wait staff & mgt team/ - costly but so worth it.
Great Steakhouse
I always enjoy this spot. The pop overs are spot on and a great conversation piece. The services is great and the steak is always cooked to my liking.
