I love discovering new restaurants! This place is so adorable! They have plenty of seating inside and outside. They offer a variety of healthy options! I went for lunch and had the shrimp and kale salad! The wait was a little long but there were a a lot of people inside. Service was decent; however I did not enjoy my salad. It had potential but was very dry and needed more dressing.
Be the first to ReplyI come here several days a week.
However today pissed me off and not sure ill be back. I open my emails and there's an email from these people saying i paid for a huge boxed lunch order of almost $1000. Not mine. I was immediately livid so i call and she nonchalantly tells me she billed me instead of another person with my name. It was like no big deal to her when she could've sent me an email telling me there was a mistake instead of me getting so angry i cant breathe. That's what angers me the most she didn't care and acted like its no big deal. She did say sorry but it didn't seem very sincere. None of the people who work there are particularly friendly. Not rude but not friendly either.
Be the first to ReplyI was far from impressed.
They're not friendly at all . I was at the counter reading the menu when the employee behind the counter grabbed it from me to give to another customer even though there was a pile of menus in front of him. We decided to go somewhere else to eat.

Hands down the most pathetic excuse for a reuben sandwich I have ever had! The old Wendy's commercial applies to this sandwich. "Where's the beef?" The two very thin slices of grilled corn beef was just enough corn beef to technically qualify this mess as a rueben. Why would you grill corn beef so that it is on its way to jerky? The other sandwich we ordered was the turkey and brie which was just average, but it at least had enough meat that you didn't have to hunt for it. The staff will not win any welcoming and friendly awards either.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, slow on service though it was a Sunday.
I received my food rather quickly but my friend waited over 15 minutes beyond the time I received my food to receive hers though we ordered at the same time.

I've been so excited to try Bull and Bean after hearing great things! Super cute place and I like how it operates as order at the counter then find a seat. It was pretty busy, so the food did take a pretty long time. The breakfast burrito was okay - nothing special, egg was really watery / made the burrito leak, and I wish it could have come with some side or something. The French toast (peaches and blueberry) was delicious though! Everything you'd want in a French toast :)
Be the first to ReplyThe food was great.
We got the eggs benedict and it was very tasty; however, the service was at best mediocre. We weren't brought any silverware and we were told to go to the back to get it, and there weren't enough for the both of us.

Atmosphere: Bull and Bean is a brunch spot in Durham with a laid-back and relaxed feel. A nice spot to meet up with friends for a casual meal! It wasn't too busy when we arrived, but it may get difficult to find seating during peak brunch hours. Service: We ordered to-go and our food came out relatively quickly. If you're dining in, you order at the counter, and food is brought to your table. Food: We ordered the Grits Bowl with Shrimp and the Cuban Sandwich. We were big fans of the Grits Bowl! It was just cheesy enough and had a great balance of vegetables in addition to the juicy shrimp. The Cuban Sandwich was filling, and the pickles and dijon mustard gave a nice tangy flavor. While the sandwich was a bit salty, it was a solid pick overall. Overall: With great meals both for dine-in and takeout, Bull and Bean is a solid spot for brunch in Durham. We're looking forward to coming back and trying their specials!

The food was great years ago but the service is currently unfriendly. I sat for several minutes waiting to order sitting at the bar across from the register. Finally someone came over and said I had to order at the register. Well, I'm already sitting at the bar with the register right on front of me. Why can't you take my order? I walked out and ate next door.
Be the first to ReplyNice place.
Good coffee and food. Staff could use some energy though. Not super friendly but it may have been an "off day".

Second time I've ordered decaf coffee in the afternoon and it is bitter and weak. The staff does not seemed concerned. The cookies are good though. Will not get coffee there again!

This truly is a nice and quant restaurant/diner with friendly staff who pride themselves in a quality product for the customers consumption. This was actually my 3rd time eating here. The Steak Eggs and loaded Hashbrown breakfast is a item to have for brunch. Today my wife and I had Phil's favorite BLT with Avocado. Perfect for someone not wanting to much or too little and my wife ordered the Chicken Philly. The greedy me wished I order that. It was so great and the chicken was so tender. I would definitely recommend this spot. I would advise that tables are first come first serve in a sense you seat yourself. The would be the only downfall if any but service is fast and typically waiting for a table is not long.
Be the first to ReplyVery unassuming from the outside, but great ambiance inside.
Loads of tables, gifty stuff on shelves dividing seating areas gives some privacy. Only had coffee and tea, but my friend said they do great food, and the lunchtime crowd was huge.

This is my favorite brunch place in Durham! I always leave thinking this food tastes like it was prepared with real ingredients and not rushed even though it comes out so quickly. I love when it feels like there is a kitchen in the back of the restaurant and you can taste the care of the food. What draws me in are the weekly brunch specials. Each week they have different specials, such a French toast specials, pancake specials, etc. I check Facebook each weekend before I head there. It's small so there's not many places to sit. But it's super cute with little flowers on the table. You order and pay at the front and then they bring the food to your table. They always have a selection of coffee drinks and mimosas as well. It's definitely a place to go with your family. They have outdoor sitting for the warm days. I know I will be back again soon.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a great find off of Yelp.
My wife and I were searching for a new place for breakfast and boy did we hit a home run. Fun, youthful, family atmosphere. The place is not big to be sure so it feels very crowded in a good kind of way. There's a protocol for dining. Go to the register and order and pay. Take your number and find a table inside or out. You fetch your napkins, tableware, soft drinks, water and coffee. If you want a specialty coffee they will bring it to you. After you're finished you bus your own table to a station in the back of the restaurant. Now, for the food. Absolutely delicious. My wife had the Brioche French toast and I had the Italian Breakfast Skillet. The Skillet was incredibly flavorful and generous with all of the fresh ingredients served piping hot. There was nothing left on my wife's plate except a bit of the generous amount of whipped cream on her French toast. Not that there was anything left to take home, but there was I'd go fetch a to-go box. You can bet we'll be back!

I came here last minute because they had open space for Sunday brunch. The tables are first come first serve, and you order at the counter. I was pleasantly surprised by the food! The French toast was not too sweet. It had delicious homemade whipped cream and fresh strawberries. I like that it wasn't drowned in syrup, and that it was more lightly sweet. But, you can also get it with the option of Nutella if you fancy a sweeter side . The huevos rancheros were as expected. Nothing out-of-the-box creative, but well cooked eggs and dressings. Overall, it's a decent last minute brunch place, with a cozy coffee house atmosphere. A pretty safe bet for a decent weekend meal.
Be the first to ReplyEXTREMELY busy on Saturday morning.
Had the turkey and brie sandwich... good amount of turkey, but could have used twice as much brie.My wife really enjoyed her smoked salmon bagel and pumpkin latte.

The food was amazing and there was plenty of parking availability. We ordered loaded hash browns, steak and eggs, breakfast burrito, BEC croissant, and the big Bull breakfast. They have plenty of seasonal specials as well. The Apple cider sangria was delicious but a small portion for $14 The only thing we were confused about is why we had to tip before paying because we had to grab our own silverware and water/soft drinks and clear our own table. I would return though. We sat inside because we had a large party and we called ahead but they usually do not take reservations.

Be the first to ReplyI just left the Bull and Bean restaurant.
I ordered a beer and a cup of soup. I never got the cup of soup. I was never told I had to self serve myself for the beer. I left the restaurant without ever getting my soup. And I told him to keep the money I paid for the soup. This may have been a one time incident but obviously I will not go back again.I can't comment on the food because I never got any food.
Be the first to ReplyToday's experience was a good example.
I ordered the Charleston salad with chicken breast. The chicken was overcooked and so dry it was practically inedible. This has been the case numerous times before. Seems this could be easily corrected, but it hasn't been. That's why I say Bull and Bean has become quite ordinary. The prices are higher than the quality.

Bull and Bean is tucked away in a strip mall, but that doesn't detract from its down-to-earth, homey feel. For brunch this morning, I got their "fan favorite" avocado toast and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. On a slice of thick multigrain bread from Guglhupf, the avocado was ripe, spread thickly, and seasoned quite well. I also appreciated B and B's commitment to supporting local vendors- candles, peanut butter, and planners from other small businesses were all on display. There was definitely room for improvement when it came to the coffee, though. They didn't have almond or oat milk so I got an iced vanilla latte with soy milk, which was just okay. I'd come back for breakfast, but probably get coffee somewhere else.

Don't know where to start- I originally loved this place for lunch, chicken salad and tomato soup, but THEN I discovered brunch!!! You guys!! Everything is amazing.

Yummy food and so many options - even for vegans! The casual atmosohere is a great place to catch up with friends, work on your laptop (they have wifi!), or just enjoy some good food. My only 'complaint' is that the tables could have been cleaner (a little sticky, some crumbs)

This place is so cute I wish I could give a better review, but after a third visit the food just remains unimpressive. On this visit we had the grits bowl with pulled pork and the Meg's Manhattan eggs plate. My first and most consistent criticism about this place is the lack of flavor, seasoning, or salt on anything. The two elements of these dishes that had any flavor at all were the grits (good amount of cheese but no salt or butter at all) and the "herb roasted tomatoes" on the Meg's plate, though even those still could've used salt. Absolutely no salt or seasoning on the eggs or spinach. And the pork was so bland - it's disappointing when places in NC make bad pulled pork. I think the menu would be better without pulled pork at all. Overall I think this menu looks so good but just isn't being executed well. Positives? As I said the atmosphere is really cute. (Okay except I HAVE to mention that when we were there today the High School Musical soundtrack was playing over the speakers?? I don't hate it but it's an interesting choice haha.) Additionally, the croissant was really good - they source from Guglhupf - and Meg's plate came with a ton of smoked salmon, a good chunk of avocado, and plenty of goat cheese. So I do feel the price for that was fair. Ahhh I guess what I'm saying is that anything that doesn't need to be cooked was good! We won't be back again.
