Once in a lifetime experience!
An amazing experience in every way. The restaurant is stunning without trying too hard with the backdrop of the ocean and the the rocks as the star. The service is outstanding highlighted by Carlos as the sommelier. We felt like we had a history lesson of Portugal throughout. Oh yeah, the food was amazing. We chose the 21 course tasting menu. And the food tasted as good as it looked. It was magical. We chose the 11 wine pairings to go with it. The pours were very generous!! This is a dining experience of a lifetime. If you have dinners on your bucket list, make sure this one is on it!

An incredible building and an incredible meal. We chose the 12 course tasting menu, instead of the 22 course version, and every course was a delight. Service was excellent, wine was superb, and a great example of how fish can be so interestingly prepared and presented.

What a tasty delight this place was. Option of 6, 12 or 21 course degustation. Fantastic story with each course or ‘moment’ created from the sea. Exceptional with breath taking scenery.

Interesting location by the ocean a good distance from the city give the restaurant its own ambiance. We took the large menu a generally the 21 tastings was of high quality and interesting tasting. However, when we left the restaurant it was not our opinion that it been one of the two star visits. Difficult to point to the exact course as food and location was excellent. Likely a combination of a uninteresting wine pairing and a staff that did not give full attention..

Had a great lunch here in July of 2022. The setting of this place is truly amazing, with an amazing view on the ocean. I would recommend going at lunchtime so you can enjoy this in the best possible way. We took the XII courses menu and while not all dishes were amazing to our taste, some of them were truly exceptional. Very kind staff & wines we had were also great. Would recommend going here when visiting the area

We came here to celebrate my 30th birthday while visiting Porto, and decided to splurge on the 12 course tasting menu with wine pairing. It was the perfect amount of food for two. Every detail about the menu was absolutely wonderful, and I loved that the chef's selections were also marked on the menus and that we could keep them as a souvenir. There wasn't a single thing we ate or drank that we didn't love, and the staff even surprised us with an extra dessert and candles for my birthday! They also helped to order us a taxi after dinner and while we waited took the time to walk us through the building and explain the history and significance of its restoration. Highly recommend catching the beautiful sunset with your meal - our reservation was for 8:30pm and it was the perfect timing. I don't think you can request a table, but if you can sit by the window or in the room with the open doors that is the ideal view! My only slight disappointment was that we were in a booth where the view was kind of obstructed. Overall, would love to eat here again if we are ever Boa Nova!

We got lost on the way and arrived 25 minutes late. Our table by the sea was still waiting, and the staff was gracious. Food, service, decor--all perfect. Although there are about 20 choices on the tasting menu, you tell your server what you like and don't like and how many courses you want, and the chef chooses for you. You receive a menu marked with your individual choices.

With 12 courses over 3 hours and this was serious lunch! We loved each “moment” in this culinary journey, which traced chef Rui Paula's own life adventure and curiosity. Stunning, yet simple presentations; attentive and very professional service at table with a panoramic view of the ocean in a notably designed space by architect Siza Viera — an experience we will savor for a long while to come. Note that you are spending up; plan on $200 per person for lunch, even more with wines.

We had a 12 course dinner at this restaurant. Simply amazing! Staff were pleasant and accomodating. It is located right in front of the sea offering a spectacular view of the sunset. Each course was artfully presented. Staff described every dish as served. No words can describe this dining experience. Sharing some pictures might be better in this case. Everything tasted as good as it looks, if not better. Timing between courses was just right. The restaurant is about a 25 minute drive from the center of Porto. An amazing experience, indeed. Well worth repeating.

We were there for our wedding anniversary so went for the full 22 course menu with wines. The (virtually all seafood) menu was incredible - delicious, balanced, beautifully presented and of its place. The wine flight was fantastic - Portuguese, wonderfully matched and described, and rather plentiful. The service was completely on point, with the manager and sommelier leading the way. And the building and location are just breathtaking. It was during the Primavera festival, so on the downside there were some drunk English guys, but on the upside Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds were there which was a lot of fun - and everyone was looked after with grace by the staff. We ate in a few excellent restaurants in Porto, but this one is special. Go if you get the chance.
Be the first to ReplyAn absolutely amazing gastronomic experience (with a fabulous wine pairing)
When visiting Northern Portugal, and spending a few days in Porto, we had decided on having one special meal during our stay. Considering various highly recommended (and Michelin starred) restaurants, our choice finally fell to Casa de Cha da Boa Nova due to the recommendation of a Portuguese friend. Overall we were blown away by an absolutely amazing gastronomic experience, one that was truly worthy of two Michelin ⭐️⭐️s. We had arrived in Porto coming from the Six Senses in Douro Valley, so had experienced the most attentive and warm Portuguese service and hospitality, and Casa de Cha did not disappoint. Not only was the food sensationally tasty, flavorful, and full of innovative combinations and stories, but also we found the service to be warm, humorous and very attentive, without being intrusive. We chose the 12 courses, which was plenty and very filling (always an important consideration) without needing a bread-basket. The biggest shoutout of the night, though, belongs to the fabulous Sommelier, who really made our experience. He was just sensational, and his selections were absolutely fantastic. Please go and choose the wine-pairing, you will not regret it. Overall, together with Disfrutar one of the best meals we have had in a very long-time, and joins my all-time top list. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Have mix feelings about this place. We went there by a recommendation of a friend that was there in 2021. Told great things about this restaurant, especially the food and location. After a 20 minute ride from downtown, we arrived to a beautiful location near the Ocean. The weather that day was absolutely fantastic. We were greated by a well presented young man, perfect English (found out also that he’s from the states). When we got to our table, it was just fantastic, right on top of the Ocean. Me and my friends order some cocktails until we order. And that is when things fell apart. The manager presented the menus, explained the concept and after deliberation, we decided for the middle menu. I don’t know if it’s because we took a little longer to decide, or because of my restrictions (forgot to tell when I booked) but he was not happy with me. Kept rolling is eyes over and hitting is pen on his note pad. Now, this is something not suppose to happen especially on a 2star. If an average mom and pop restaurant can accommodate my restrictions (gluten and dairy) why can’t he just take a breath, relax and think about solutions. Isn’t that why we are paying extra on this type of restaurant to happen? Can’t imagine if they win the third star, probably won’t be able to accommodate any restrictions. If this sort of thing happens a manager, maitr or whatever should not respond “well maybe you should have thought about that before coming to this restaurant”. If my food restriction was seafood for example I totally understand the difficulty being a fish and seafood oriented restaurant. Throughout the evening every time he went to our table he avoided my questions regarding the dishes we were having, always serious with no smile and I would say very arrogant, and it’s a shame because the team was extremely professional and funny, big thank you for the main waiter that tried to solve the problem. The sommelier is well known (also recommended by our friends) we placed ourselves in his hands and it was worth it, money well spent. Food is absolutely delicious, this Chef knows what he’s doing with seafood. One of my friends said it was one of the best meals of her life. Can’t say I would be coming back because of the episode originated from management (the girls kept making fun of the whole situation but I just wanted to cry). Word of advise treat everyone with respect and without discrimination just because you they food restrictions.

Really good food which was beautifully served (we took 12 takes) and well matched wines (wine paring). Although dinner was at 07:30 pm, it was already dark outside so I can only guess basing on photos from other reviews that the view is very nice:). Service was excellent although sometimes felt a bit mechanical. Anyway, must go if you re in Porto.

The architecture and location are already remarkable enough reasons to visit -- add to this an incredible menu which delights and surprises and a sommelier who pairs beautiful wines perfectly with the wonderful dishes, and you have a truly extraordinary experience awaiting you. The mood of the room is tuned to be relaxed and calming, and the pace of the meal is exactly right. Not a single false note, only extraordinarily beautiful harmony. I hope to come back again, on my next trip to Portugal.
