En route: walking southeast along Morton St. toward Bedford St. on a warm, Spring like Sunday early afternoon, witness many duos, one of each pair in eye catching colorful skirts, the other in neutral hued pants, both sets of eyes unflinching, each with legs only in quasi motion, seemingly having no set, urgent destination today and beyond. Arrive at Casa to find the locale, the portion of Bedford St. between Barrow and Morton, lots of flourishing trees; one inhabitant of a nearby quiet two floor building sitting on his steps for 30 plus minutes without blinking or even motioning; a leaf every 20-30 minutes silently dropping from its tree; neutrally colored, un-screaming, subtle victuals for those who can catch special nuances of foods; breads of various similar but still unique flour nuances, needing sensitive tongues to discover the differences. Appreciate that on a quiet Sunday during this Corona’s virus era finding peaceful, undisturbed seating albeit at a table squeezed into limited space, aloof from diners several feet away, and devoid of frequent conventional stopovers from wait people appeals to many. Intuit deeply that some NYC throngs yearning for streets not filled with banging construction, car horns not honking forever, as little interaction as imaginable with destination filled humans seeking places bereft of city brains and bods bumping eternally against each other will find themselves drawn to and thrilled by this X −8 corner spot. Then delve into the delicate gluten free cheese bread, the yuca purée with coconut milk, white rice and vegetarian farofa, fried yuca sticks, and vegan brown beans. Float your spirit gently while waiting for a table, delicacies to arrive, and the wait person, seemingly eternally bearing placid smiles, to deliver your bill. The view this day, for example, of the hefty Ford in front of a table blocking multiple views, may annoy. The wait time for a table and for food may seem unusual, unsettling. Peer at Casa’s stolid duality, less food, less attention, less space, less view, etc., its Mores: many followers, including, many more to visit over time
