Gimme Gimme more
Chercher has amazing food! I was in town for a weekend and everyone told me to go to an Ethiopian restaurant in DC because it is very good. I found Chercher and decided to give it a try. I was so happy I went because the meat was tender and super soft and the array of spiced veggies was so delicious, I returned again the next day! Staff was friendly and allowed me to charge my phone so that I could use my virtual card to tap when I realised I left my wallet at home.
Be the first to ReplyGreat injera and savory entrees!
Very festive atmosphere on a very busy holiday weekend. Surprisingly, they were able to keep track of our drinks at the bar and then transfer this to the back patio area which was heated. We enjoyed the drinks at the bar. We had beef tibs, Bozeno Shiro wet, deluxe vegetarian platter. All were excellent!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Ethiopian!
Met friends for a delicious Ethiopian meal served in a sidewalk setting. Enjoyed a beautiful 7 part vegan sampler with plenty of injera to help keep our hands clean. Served with a sense of humor and lots of courtesy, the only downside was the frequent sounds of sirens from the local fire station trucks that kept passing the restaurant on 9th street. Still, would definitely recommend and return to this restaurant!

Disappointing. Too many gnats randomly flying, wall dirty where we were seated, and too stingy portions.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent doro watt in DC
Whenever I travel to major cities, but especially DC, I try to go to an Ethiopian restaurant. A friend from Australia that I hadn't seen in a decade was at the same conference and I suggested Ethiopian. We had a great meal, I think that the doro watt was about the best that I've had. In some other places, they put a bit of vegetable with the meat dishes but they don't do that here so we ordered one doro watt and one vegetarian sampler which ended up being perfect. He had never had Ethiopian food before, so I was happy that he had a great experience. The service was friendly.

Good food, onest price, clean. Good the appetizers and the meat dishes. The service was a little slow but maybe they dont aspect so many people. In general Good!
Be the first to ReplyFriendly Service, Tasty Food
The restaurant is nondescript from the outside and crowded inside but the food is excellent. As is the cultural practice, everything is served in a communal dish and you eat with your hands by breaking off a piece of injera and using it to grip or scoop up a morsel of an entree in the center. Every few minutes, one rotates the dish so that all get to try everything without needing to stretch or lean across. The food is complemented by Ethiopian honey wine. The service is always with a smile. Prices are moderate. It's a great place to visit.
Be the first to ReplyMarvelous experience of Ethiopian cuisine
I recommend this quality restaurant to taste the excellent ethiopian cuisine, very tasty with original spices. Be careful, you have to eat with your fingers! Ethiopian wines are less spectacular but are essential with meat dishes. The service team is very friendly and provides all the necessary explanations, to what will discover a new aspect of world gastronomy. Highly recommend.

Yellow and black lentil were good. Sautรฉed Beets were flavorful. Lamb meat was tender and juicy. The whole dish comes with plenty of injera

Good food and great option for vegans and vegetarians. We did UberEats and although the service was delayed, the food was outstanding.
Be the first to ReplySurprisingly varied and tasty food
Food that makes your mouth water! The vegan Chercher platter was full of flavour. Each dish is surprisingly varied in taste given the different spices used. Youโre given Ethiopian bread which you use to scoop and eat each dip. Loved the experience and now on the look out for an Ethiopian restaurants near my home town. Final tip, try to book a table in advance as itโs incredibly popular.
Be the first to ReplyMy first experience with Ethiopian food and hopefully not my last
The food here was excellent and the staff was very helpful. I had never had Ethiopian food before, but the staff was very helpful in selecting my food and telling me how to properly eat it. I liked what I had (a raw beef dish) very much and the serving was larger than I could finish. They also had an extensive Ethiopian beer selection.
Be the first to ReplyFood Prepared Like Someone's Grandmother Has Been All Day In the Kitchen!
Not all Ethiopian restaurants are built the same. I found that out the hard way when I ordered from a spot in DC once and the food had no taste. I live in New York City where ALL restaurants, even the sidewalk foodcart vendors, go extra hard. Everyday. All day. There are no off-days in NYC fooding. There can't be, it's not possible. So it's difficult to compare New York City to any other city. That being said, I have learned, through experience, to keep my expectations low when traveling and eating out. Though today I ordered from Chercher Ethiopian expecting somewhat of a lackluster food experience. Thinking that there was a 20% chance that I'd get a quality Ethiopian meal. I was so, so wrong. I'm so sorry for doubting you Chercher. Please accept my apologies. You delivered! Not only did you deliver, but your food is seasoned like someone's grandmother is in the kitchen cookin'! Two grandmothers actually! The food is seasoned rich. Like people care. Like there's quality control. Like there's never a bad batch. Like the whole of Ethiopia is depending on Chercher's success to represent for the culture! I am so thankful for today's Special Veggie Combo order, and if I ever find myself in Washington, DC again, I will be sure to show Chercher some love. If I could rate Chercher 6 stars I would!
Be the first to ReplyFavorite Dinner During Our Week in DC!
Our favorite dinner the whole week we spent in DC! Absolutely delicious! My husband and I ordered the Vegan Special (7 veg dishes) and the Beef Tibs (the smaller size) and it was more than enough food for the two of us. We left stuffed but it was SO good! The injera was perfect. We walked to the restaurant from the Mt Vernon Metro station.

Great meal ๐ช๐น here! Service was good and the restaurant is located in an old row house. We shared the deluxe vegan special & the beef special tibs. The menu has full explanations of the platter, tibs, and all other dishes. It is customary to not use silverware ๐ด and utilize the injera (a delicious type of sour fermented flatbread with a slightly spongy texture) as a delivery system. Just dig in! Amazing flavors and very filling. They had two Ethiopian beers ๐บ in stock. I want with a light one and it paired well with the meal.

Great location in the heart of posh DC. The building is cute and original. The food was amazing. I canโt handle spicy and the split pea lentil was perfect for me.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Ethiopian food
If you're looking for an authentic Eithopian food this is a place. There is a mini outdoor covered deck with about 4 tables. Plenty of seating inside. We got the special number 1 Chercher vegan deluxe plate and Chercher Beef Special Tibs. The two dishes we ordered were perfect. The food came out quickly and staffs were attentive and friendly.
Be the first to ReplyDo not bite more than youy can chew
I drove in from New York for spring break and checked in not too far from Chercher Restaurant (Homewood suites by HIlton in DC). It was Saturday night, expectedly busy evening (Good for them). We sat down and ordered Vegie delux+ Fish tibs & Vegie special +Fish dulet (chopped fresh tuna) to dine in and to go consecutively. While waiting on the food, we ordered beer (Stella). 5 minutes went by and there's no drink. I had to go to the Bar counter to find out about the delay. The lady said, "I'm sorry there's no Stella, can I give you becks or Heineken?" she continued, "actually you you should go for Heineken, I only have 2 becks".. I was like do I need to come to the bar to learn about it. I said "that's fine, I'll take Heineken. Half an hour went by and no body came to check up on us at least for a second beer. After a solid one hour, the same lady (she was the only one in the front), came by visibly sweating and said "I'm sorry the dulet is no longer available." She left us speechless. We had to change the order to Fish Tibs.
Another lady brought the food after a total of 1.20 hours. THE FOOD was delicious. I would say worth waiting but she leaves no stone unturned to surprise us. The entire check came in with the first order ($20 more). I tend to check the bills. She never said "I'm sorry" but went back and came up with we can't reverse it, here's $20 for your refund.
Morale of the story:
Habesha Restaurant owners
1- Do not bite more than you can chew. Only one person can't handle serving the entire floor. She was sweating too. Thank God she had mask (if you know what i mean).
2- Do not take habesha customers for granted. Every customer appreciates equal attention.
3. Focus on the quality of the service than the quantity. I can imagine the name has been around for a long time. so should your service be.
Delicious Ethiopian
Delicious Ethiopian food with generous portions. I ordered more than I could consume but that didnโt stop me from trying. Loved every morsel.
Be the first to ReplyEthiopian gastronomic experience
This is one of the best Ethiopian food places I cane across outside country.
You will not regret if you visit.
Compliments to kitchen and Ms. Mekdes for great service and recommendation.
Jumped in to seat our large party
Twice we've come with 8-12 people without reservations and twice we've been able to eat at this popular, small row house restaurant. The waitresses are patient with those new to Ethiopian and they worked with me to get a collection of dishes so there would be something for all palates. They were willing to do the kitfo medium although some of us would have preferred traditional and they have excellent tibs. Generous portions and a good mix of Ethiopians and non-Ethiopians there. Only downside is no metro particularly nearby.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great price
Stopped in to Chercher for a quick Friday evening bite. I had never had Ethiopian food so was intrigued to try.
I had a beautiful lamb stew. The meat and sauce were both absolutely delicious. It's served with a type of pancake which I wasn't too fond of but I'm not keen on pancakes anyway. It's a personal preference so I wouldn't mark it down for that.
Seems to be popular with locals. Give it a go.
Delicious and affordable
The aroma when you enter the restaurant is worth it alone. What a wonderful atmosphere, and even better food. I would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplySo yummy!
So yummy! I got there in the middle the afternoon but they were pretty busy and sat at the bar and The vegan special was delicious! Some of it was quite spicy, but all fresh and well seasoned -the caramelized onions were wonderful!
