The experience here was next level.
The fried chicken was delivered with ketchup though, not the homemade sweet chili sauce advertised. We also had the bulgogi hotpot which was delicious if you like sweet food. Some tough pieces experienced. I'm bummed I didn't order the tofu but thought some would come out free as advertised elsewhere. Will probably be back to try tofu.
Be the first to Reply!!! Probably the best Korean food I had in the US.
I heard from my coworkers that this place is usually packed and people had to wait in lines for tables, and I can confirm that. We were dotted around 5:20, by 5:30, there was already a long line of people waiting. It was amazing to try many of their dishes but my absolute fav was the beef stew plus rice cakes. Service was amazing!

Ok the cod roe omelette was truly divine, I did not know egg could turn into this. The egg had a fluffiness beyond what I've ever seen before. The cod roe inside and green tea mayo on top blended together to create an irresistible burst of flavor, full of umami and creaminess. Absolutely incredible. The sundubu however, it kind of missed. We got 3 sundubus, only the spicy one was decent. The other two were watery and flavorless. The mushroom rice was ok, I do like the mushroom elevation. Will be back to actually try their main dishes and the cod roe omelette again, when I'm ever in the mood to wait 1.5 hours for a table.

Would you like an incredibly delicious, reasonably priced meal ? If you like Korean food, this is your new go-to place. Cho Dang Gol makes its own wonderful tofu -- I converted an "I do not really like tofu" person into a "this is so delicious !" person with just one lunch ! If you arrive as they open at lunch, there will be a line, quickly accommodated and in fifteen minutes, the restaurant will be completely full.......so, what to do ? Well, either line up just before 12, or wait until 1, when the initial rush is over and suddenly the place is empty. I love the small dishes that accompany Korean meals. Know that they differ from day to day, but I loved one so much, they gave me more... So you see, this is a place that will see a lot of me. They are just as nice if you are by yourself, or with friends.

4 of us went to CDG at 6pm and waited about 20 mins for a table on a Tuesday night which wasn't too bad. Great service and decent food. The Seafood & Scallion Pancake was delicious and I really like the Cod Roe Omelet a lot. The Octopus Flavored Rice was a little bland to my liking. Their CDG Seafood Jeongol (Hot Pot) was tasty and definitely can be shared among four people.
Be the first to ReplyCDG doesn't miss.
I could pick something random blindfolded off the menu and I guarantee I'd at least like it, if not love it. There's a reason there are lines outside even during the most off-peak weekday hours, but it's worth it. They also will text you when your table is ready so you can do other things while waiting. I've had a handful of things on their menu by now and enjoyed them all, but the gamjatang I had on my most recent visit would have to be my favorite. Super generous and tender pork with an incredibly flavorful broth that blew us away. We loved the addition of dates that added a comfortingly herbal and sweet touch to the broth. Shout out to the perilla stew also, and their relatively affordable lunch specials. Definitely worth a visit!

one of the most affordable dinners ive had in ktown with great food! the wait was 1.5 hours on the weekend for dinner so would go early to put a name down the cod roe omelette was surprisingly my favorite! would definitely recommend as a dish to share. the galbi jjim was good (4/5) but not the best i've had in NY. both the tofu stews with rice are a great addition, would pick one depending on whether you like spicy or not. and the seafood rice cake came with lots of variety so i would recommend that to share too!

Came here for dinner on a weeknight and put our name down for the waiting list around 5:30. They open again at 5 but when we got there at 5:30 there were already a bunch of parties ahead of us waiting. Definitely try to get here at 5p sharp if you can to avoid the wait. We waited roughly 25 mins which wasn't too bad and we ordered the below. The noodle soup tastes really good and hearty. The seafood pancake was amazing too, albeit a little small considering the price. The restaurant is definitely really loud for dinner so something to keep in mind if you're looking for a more quiet reserved restaurant. Definitely recommend checking out one day if you're in the area.

Even putting a name down shortly after they open, there was still a 40 minute wait to get in for a table of 5. Our waitress was very friendly. We got served a small bowl of fresh warm soybean curd. While I enjoyed that, I didn't love it in the kimchi soybean curd stew. The highlight was the cod roe omelet. It was so good, we ended up ordering another one. There was a good chunk of cod roe in the middle and the sauce paired perfectly with the fluffy warm omelet. The mushroom rice was very underwhelming. It didn't have that fragrant mushroom smell and it was very bland. It did pair well after adding the bulgolgi hotpot sauce though. The hotpot was very homey, very generic and felt like something I could make at home with just the sliced meat and a bottle of bulgolgi sauce. I'd come back for the cod roe omelet and watching them grind/mill the soybean in the kitchen. That's how you know it's fresh. It's fairly small but they seem to be have a fast turnaround when it comes to bringing out the dishes.
Be the first to ReplyI was curious many people waiting for seat in outside.
So I try dinner in last night. I and friend ordered stews and octopus and meat and mini bossam. Stews were ok nothing special but octopus was so tough and meat quality was not acceptable it's not chewable. And bossam was so dry and no taste. Not recommend this restaurant. So many fine restaurants in 32nd Korean street. Go there.

I heard a lot of good comments about Cho Dang Gol, especially their special tofu. Finally I decided to give it a try. My friends and I came on a Friday night around 5:30 pm, first thing you need to check in on a Kiosk and get the number. The restaurant is busy, warm and cozy. A good place to hang out with friends. We waited an hour. I suggest you walking around in the nearby shopping mall so you don't get cold in such weather. After get in the table, we ordered the cod roe omelet, seafood tofu soup, kimchi tofu soup, perilla tofu stew, and fried chicken. Here are my recommendations: * Kimchi tofu stew: the flavor is right to the point. Not over salty. Flavorful and yummy. BTW - my friend finish the entire soup. *Perilla tofu stew: you will love this soup if you like perilla leaf. I recommend people who likes mild flavor to try this dish out. *Cod Roe Omelet: fresh, tasty and soft inside. We both like it. Total we spent around $100. I appreciate the staff that works here and provides us a great service. We get the side dishes and refills promptly. It's a great experience and worth to go back again.
Be the first to Replyi came here at around 1pm on a rainy saturday.
i waited about 15 minutes to get in. the side dishes were mostly good. i had the cod roe omelet and the kimchi tofu stew with white rice. i really enjoyed the cod roe omelet. the egg was hot and fluffy, the cod roe was perfectly salty, and the green tea mayo was a very good addition. the kimchi tofu stew was the perfect amount of spice (for me) n had tofu, ground meat i forgot which, an egg, and kimchi. the rice was soft and sticky and paired really well with the stew. even tho it was super busy, the food came out relatively fast and the restaurant was clean. YASSS!

Welcoming atmosphere with homey Korean dishes. Shout out to Chloe for the most amazing service and recommendations. The bossam, cod roe omelette and perilla seed stew are outstanding.

A must-have if you're a fan of sundubu (tofu stew)! This place is known for their homemade-tofu and for good reason! Coupled with great banchan and a nice traditional Korean feel, this place is definitely worth checking out. Only thing to note is that there's almost always a long wait - came here as early as 6, and already had over 15 parties ahead of me. Spicy Kimchi Tofu Stew - 5/5 I've had a lot of tofu stews from all over k-town but this definitely stood out. The homemade tofu is clearly different from what other restaurants use - is definitely on the firmer side, but tastes great. This particular variation was actually quite spicy, probably in the middle of BCD's Spicy and Danger level. The taste of the stew itself was incredibly flavorful - no complaints about being watered down like I've had about BCD.Korean Pancake - 3/5 Quantity is quite large and goes well with the sauce given. I wish it were a bit crispier though. Mini Bossam - 4/5 Pretty good, but nothing too out of the ordinary. Comes with salted shrimp sauce, ssamjang, kimchi, garlic, and jalapenos.Fried Chicken - 4/5 Meat was cooked really well - no stringiness whatsoever. Sauce was pretty good, but tasted a bit too much like ketchup. Wish this was also a bit crispier (although meat-breading ratio is great).

Came here for lunch with fam- they gave a good amount of side dishes with free refills. The tofu here is delicious, we were huge fans of the spicy tofu soup and the seafood pancakes were great as well! The bulgogi was a tad on the sweet side, but still god if you're feeling it.

Craving for some good Korean food in the city? This is a place do check out! Came in during lunch time so there was a long wait. Food was great especially for the price we paid. For a lunch combo, I believe it was $20 and it came with soup, main entree, and rice and they were decent portions. Review is more on the service we received. Sure it was lunch time when we came in and it was busy, but the host kept seating people who came in after us. There were 5 of us in our party, and instead of giving us the option to split up like he did with the other party, he kept making us wait. We waited over an hour and a half before we were finally seated. When we were finally seated, it took another 15 mins before someone even came to us just to give us water let alone take our order.
Be the first to ReplyTasty food and good service.
The staff was very friendly and attentive. I got the egg cod roe omelet thing on a whim and it was actually like really good... succulent. Meat was juicy, the sides were all tasty, and I ate my fill. Yummy.

I think our dishes were 4/5, but I would love to go again! We got there at 11:50 as they were seating the first round. They only seat full parties so get there on time! We ended up being the first ones on the waitlist since our full party wasn't there til 12:15 (two people) but only had to wait ~20 minutes since they move fast. We got the soybean stew and the perilla soybean. I think I was looking for a heavier flavor, like a kimchi stew. The texture was also not my favorite, as the tofu was very soft and crumbled
Be the first to ReplyGood tofu and side dishes.
We got the spicy squid plate and seafood tofu. Both were good and hit the spot on a cold day. We got in right as they opened on Saturday which meant we didn't need to wait. The line soon piled up and people who missed the first seating would probably have to wait 30-40 minutes. I'm not sure if this place would be worth the wait but I think the move is to try to get there right as they open so you don't have to wait!

The banchan/side dishes were a great start to the meal and the service was great since they refilled it knowing the food would be slow. We had a seafood and scallion pancake for appetizer which was good. I got the perilla tofu stew since I can't eat spicy and it was great! I like how they have rice cakes in it along with the tofu. I'm glad that I can also have a flavorful soup even though I can't eat spicy. I chose the extra mushroom rice which was delicious. Be sure to come at 11:55 even though they say they open and 12 since they start seating people early and it gets filled quick!

Went directly when they opened and glad we did, as the restaurant was already packed with customers. The food is so comforting and one of the best I've eaten in Manhattan. The seafood sundubu was refreshing stew that calmed my stomach. The bossam was huge and they gave us plenty to fill our stomachs. Will definitely come back again!
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant serves a very satisfying and comforting
This restaurant serves a very satisfying and comforting tofu stew that is perfect for when you want a warm and filling meal. The flavors of the stew are well-balanced and not too strong, allowing the tofu to shine through. The overall texture of the perilla stew was thick and hearty, making it a filling and satisfying dish that could be enjoyed on its own or accompanied by rice or other side dishes. Overall, the perilla tofu stew was a great option for anyone looking for a delicious and comforting meal. They also offer a tasty oyster stew, although it may be slightly salty for some palates. One of the highlights of the meal was the cute little cauldron pot that the refreshing and cold makgeolli was served in, which was a delightful surprise. Despite the restaurant being busy and crowded, it's easy to understand why due to the quality of the food. As an added bonus, a small cookie was served at the end of the meal, making for a sweet conclusion to a great dining experience. IYKYK Other notes: Wait time was around 45 mins for party of 2. Side of rice really does serve 2-3 small bowls and came out in tin bowl.

Can't believe I haven't tried this place before in my time in NYC! It's def one of the top Korean places in Manhattan imo. The tofu stew had really fresh tofu and I prefer this tofu over silken tofu - would recommend this over BCD. I also loved the pork belly, it was so tasty with all the fixings! We enjoyed the marinated spicy raw crabs as well and all the banchans. The chestnut rice wine was just ok - it tasted good but then got really heavy after a while. I wanted to try the pear but they were out so will have to come back to try that! Only complaint is that they charge for things that normally come with the dishes like rice. Apparently nothing comes with rice and you have to pay extra for rice which is a bit annoying since their dishes aren't cheap by any means but other than that would recommend!

The restaurant was extremely crowded and busy, yet their service and efficiency were legit. The food quality is undoubtedly worth the fame of a Michelin restaurant. Most surprisingly, the price is very affordable! My Korean friend said the taste of Cho Dang Gol is americanized, so it may not be the most authentic spot in Korean standard.Highly recommend their weekday lunch combo set. $19.99 for a mini stew and mini main, but they aren't mini at all! The portion is indeed smaller than dishes from the regular menu, but it is still very filling that I have to take away boxes of leftovers. They also serve complimentary homemade soybean curd and 5-6 banchans before your mains.* Perilla Seed Tofu StewI miss this stew so much so I come back again. My Korean friend recommended this stew last time, and it was life-changing. He said perilla seed stew is a common dish in Korea. The perilla seed was so aromatic and earthy. The stew has a hearty portion of homemade tofu, sliced rice cake and mushroom. Some may find it a bit plain comparing to spicy kimchi stew. If you can't tolerate much spice, you will find this very delectable.* Beef BulgogiThe marinated bulgogi was stir-fried with onions and mushrooms. It was well seasoned and quite sweet. Perfect match with a bowl of rice.* Cod Roe OmeletIt tasted more like Japanese tamagoyaki rather than a Korean dish. The omelet was very soft, creamy and jiggly. The green tea mayo was slightly subtle, yet complemented with the savory cod roe fillings. ***Walk-in only. If you want to guarantee a table, make sure you arrive before it opens (12pm)My Recommendations:Perilla Seed Tofu Stew, Baby Octopus & Beef Bulgogi Worth Returning ? The Hot Stone Tofu Vegetable Bibimpap is okay..., but the Spicy Galbi Jjim is a must! It is spicy but it is good. Not only the braised beef is good, the vegetables in it are also great.
