Definitely hyped up and unfortunately this food center didn't live up to it in my opinion. Many people who've visited Singapore have raved about this place and so I had to check it out. It is true what people say about the following: - it is a smaller food center than others - poor ventilation and smokiness inside, outside tables would be more ideal - busy crowds and you have to hover or get hovered by people waiting for tables - many stalls selling the exact same thing - lots of tourists with some locals I found it weird that of all the hawker food stalls I've been to that this one was the most chaotic in that the people working at the stalls would try to get your attention to go and purchase from their stall. I thought it was too much and not really necessary. Tried lots of food and it was good and tasty. Only thing is that I don't think I'd return here specifically just for it. There are other centers that have food that have more variety and good eats too. One thing that is nice, is for most of the stalls, you order at the stalls and tell them your table number and then they deliver the food to you. Whereas other food centers it may be self-serve only. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the stalls but I did try to check out more of the stalls on this hungrygowhere food guide so it is similar:http://www.hungrygowhere.com/dining-guide/hawker/hawker-guide-chomp-chomp-food-centre-*aid-74703101/- sambal BBQ stingray: a first time trying it and to my surprise it was yummy. I say to my surprise because I didn't know what to expect and it was good. I'd like to try it from other stalls too - popiah and pie tee: tasty. Spicy is more enjoyable for me - sugar cane: good - satay: small but fine 60 cents per stick pork chicken mutton - hokkien mien: took the longest and came out piping hot which I appreciate! - curry noodles: weakest dish of the night - Rojak: not my cup of tea but had a decent amount of shrimp paste - chicken wings: okay Tip: get there early to reserve a tableTip: hokkien mee from that Ah Hock does take some time to make and bring to your table so I'd order it first. They said 25-30 min for us Tip: bring your own tissues (as usual per Singapore) but you may need some extra depending if you're eating finger food or get sweaty since there's less ventilation Tip: some stalls are closed on certain days/times so check if possible before you head out so you're not disappointed
