The food is probably quite good here but the maitre'd was so staggeringly rude we never got that far. If you don't want people to come into your empty restaurant, don't advertise yourself as a place that accepts money for food.
Be the first to ReplyLucien Freud ate here often and exchanged drawings for food
Lucien Freud ate here often and exchanged drawings for food so as you dine at this lovely restaurant the feast is not only for your stomach but also your eyes. I had a delicious veal chop. The borrata salad was okay. The appetizer soufflé was wonderful. Fresh fruit was really fresh. Deadly delicious dark chocolate at the end. We were in a private dining room. The service was quit attentive. I gave it a five where I might have given a four because seeing Freuds just hanging on the wall gives an intangible special touch to the experience

I spent a week in London with my parents in November and Clarke's was one of our two favorite restaurants. We loved the intimate setting and beautiful decor. Service was attentive and professional and we didn't feel rushes at any time. One of the reasons I selected the restaurant is it's reputation as being one of the best farm-to-table restaurants focused on seasonal British ingredients. All of the breads are baked in house and were delicious! We started with delicious pear Bellinis. My Dad had the Soup of Umbrian lentils, shallots and chestnuts with chives to start. The soup was hot, bursting with flavor and presented with onion seed breadsticks. I had the Dorset lobster served with puntarelle, onion and lemon mayonnaise. It was artfully presented, but somewhat disappointing as I am not a fan of the claw. My Mom had the best first course of the three of us as she ordered the Souffle Suissesse, a warm Gruyere shuffle with sage, parmesan and land cress. It was so good that she was reluctant to share even the smallest of bites. For main courses, my Dad has the Rhug estate organic fallow deer roasted with orange, pomegranate and sage, brussel tops artichokes, beetroot and organic spelt. It was very, very good and perfectly cooked. My Mom had the Roasted Scottish halibut with sauce of dill and proseco, rainbow carrots, romanesco, spiriting broccolini and ratte potatoes. The dish was hot, perfectly good and had wonderful favor. The same can be said of the Cornish wild sea bass fillet roasted with black olive and parsley tapenade, baked fennel, time di papa and herbed umbrian lentils.Fore dessert, we shared the Vin d'orange pan cotta with raspberries and pistachio wafer. It was so good that my Mom could have licked the bowl. We also ordered the cheese plate and enjoyed Mrs Kirkham's Lancashire wo, Ragstone goat from Hereforshire and Spenwood, sheep from Berkshire served with oatmeal biscuits, celery and chutney. A well curated selection of dessert wine and port were on offer and we had a couple of lovely glasses of port.I would highly recommend this lovely restaurant and will return the next time I am in London. Amazing food, service and atmosphere led to a perfect night out.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was great but the service was awful.
They were clearly much more interested in serving their regular clientele, which was a disappointment because we live in Notting Hill- it was just our first time. We probably won't go back given all the choices in the area.

Another great meal in London! My husband booked this table well in advance. The restaurant is lovely. Dove grey walls, wood floors. Clean and fresh! Our service was attentive. The bread was heavenly! My husband loved his salmon appetizer and lamb main course. I'm a vegetarian and we let them know ahead of time. They acknowledged it but offered me sides off of the main courses to be combined as a vegetable "plate" for me. That's fine. They were all delish.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice experience.
My grandson and I split a very large ribeye steak, my daughter had the prix fix diinner of fish, and my wife had a beautiful chilled soup and the chicken dish. All wonderfully prepared an delivered by a friendly and helpful staff. Very spendy but well worth it.

This is one of a kind, daily menu of the freshest food combined brilliantly. We talked about each and every bite during dinner, and afterwards. Generous portions. Reasonable wine prices. The bread is wicked good. Going back again before leaving London. Go!

Definitely one of the most expensive, yet fancy, options in the area, and would be perfect for a posh, white tabel cloth lunch. I had the sea bass with fennel and new potatoes and it was very good, but again, at 22 pounds it should be. The bread basket is excellent, I must say. The stilion cheese bread is gorgeous, as are the handmade truffles. If you want a proper lunch, no frills, just simple class, this is a great place. The deli is also very good, but the lattes are only offered with full milk, no skim or soya... odd. The quiche and pastries are are great, and I would suggest popping in here to see the deli, and if you love it, try the restaurant out if you're okay with flashing the cash.I'll be back, but only if it's on the business tab.
Be the first to ReplyDuring a few days in London with my parents, we came here
During a few days in London with my parents, we came here on the recommendation of my neighbour. The food was amazing and I really liked the atmosphere. Reservations are difficult to come by, but if you're willing to eat earlier, you may be able to get in the same day (I called mid-afternoon on a Thursday and we were able to get in for a 6:30 pm reservation). The staff was very friendly and helpful, but not overly friendly. Now for the details. As I mentioned before, the food was VERY good. My dad, as a former cook, is a notoriously picky eater. He ordered the prix fix and loved it! The menu was a "Greek" Salad, Rib Eye with hollondaise and a mix of squash/carrotts with a dessert of peaches in presseco...my mom and I ate the dessert...it was wonderful! I ordered the polenta for an appetizer and roasted chicken with potato cakes and mixed greens for dinner. The chicken was very fresh and well cooked...not over done. The sides consisted of mixed greens and a potato cake kind of thing. All very good.My mother ordered the salmon appetizer and the lamb with mixed greens, fennel and watercress as her main course. Each of us cleaned our respective plates. The portions were not terribly large, but filling and overall, I felt the prices were reasonable. There is a two course minimum (starter and main entree or main entree and dessert). There are not a lot of choices on the menu, but we were each able to find 1-2 things we would have ordered. Highly recommend this restaurant for a nice evening out.
Be the first to Replyi was really excited about this restaurant the menu sounded
i was really excited about this restaurant the menu sounded great with good quality seasonal ingredients.the service was polite and attentive .When my starter of home cured brazola arrived i thought it tasted nice but was to little meat with to much salad. The pork i had for main course was similarly nice but lacking in meat and a lot of salad.Generally i felt a little bit robbed by the price tag for the food i recieved .
Be the first to ReplyHadn't heard of this place, and really didn't know what to
Hadn't heard of this place, and really didn't know what to expect. First impressions were of a small and unassuming venue, almost like a tea room !Only a small selection of dishes - 3 starters and 3 mains, plus a fixed price option. Promisingly, however, I liked the sound of pretty much everything on offer, and actually had problems choosing. I eventally plumped for squid and pea risotto to start, and breast of duck with root vegetables for the main. The risotto was good but not outstanding - nicely presented, and the ingredients tasted as fresh as you like, but a bit lacking in flavour. The duck however was delicious, and again very pleasingly presented. My 2 dinner companions were also very happy with their choices. My desert was great - meringue with the season's first strawberries and rhubarb. I wasn's sure if the rhubarb would go, but it was just delicious. All in all the food was very good. Fresh mint tea to finish and I left very happy. Our waitress was excellent - friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. We paid around £65 each for 3 courses plus a bottle of wine to share, so not cheap, but overall very enjoyable, and I'd definitely go back there.
