I can't believe I had never heard of this wonderful, authentic Mexican restaurant. What a hidden gem. Amazing food and snappy service. I'll be back.

The food was very, very good! I do wish the sauce on the Chile wasn't as thick, but everything was delicious as always. My boyfriend had the Chile Lime Salmon and its one of our favorite dishes! The chipotle mashed potatoes are AMAZING! I also always appreciate any restaurant with good mocktails on their menu! Parking here is easy and the staff is super friendly! Also helps that they play great music!

Ate there last night after a trip to the Majestic movie theater. Split the burriot, sans chicken, with my spouse, and it was plenty along with the chips and salsa, which is authentic. Friend ordered the enchiladas. Nothing left on either plate. The only negative, and that's a bit strong, is the food is never piping hot. Usually slightly warm only. Yet the flavor is dynamite. No tequila as we gave up alcohol but in past trips there, the margaritas were magnificent.

I am born and raised in California and we just moved here in August. We were missing CA Mexican food and found Condesa. Their guac is great and fish ceviche is amazing! Their Molcajete is the best I have ever had. The steak has the best flavor! If you are looking for the best Mexican food this is your place! Their staff is also super kind. They brought us multiple salsa options since we love spicy food. The decor is super fun and they always have great music playing. A must visit!

A Mexican restaurant in Arsenal Yards! Boy, this place has options. Their portions are reflective of their prices, but the food is hot, fresh, and tasty. I ordered the "Mocajete" which came out in a sizzling red Chile sauce, paired with roasted nopales, queso fresco, and slices of an array of meats, from "Carne Asada" to "Pork adobado" and grilled chicken. It came with refried beans, rice, corn tortillas for $40! I felt it was appropriate for the amount of food. The molcajete we ordered was split into two, I was pleased with this gesture. They have a large selection of alcoholic drinks like margaritas and cocktails but I tried the non-alcoholic Horchata and it paired nicely with the Chile-based foods I was eating. I highly recommend the ceviche as well.

I really like some of the dishes on their menu qnd was hoping they'd offer delivery at some point. They're finally on grubhub, but a lot of the prices seem to be a whopping 50% (!!!!???!) markup from in-restaurant prices. And that's before the service and delivery charges or the tip. So a dish that cost $20 in-restaurant is $30 on GH and then with taxes, fees, and tip ~$40. No thanks
Be the first to ReplyThe menu was updated and we decided to give this a try for
The menu was updated and we decided to give this a try for a Saturday lunch around noon. No one was there...very odd. They have no gluten free fryer and even the rice is fried so that lets out a lot for my wife. She ended up with tamales which were bland and covered with a huge amount of salad. I had a burrito--HUGE..took 1/2 home and ended up getting four meals out of it. To the credit, a lot of beef but a thin layer of rice and beans and, in fact, flavor. The tortilla chips were ok (we like them without salt) but they and the salsa (thin and watery) were bland, too. Our waitress was ok but she and the staff ended up sitting with their back to us up by the bar (and we were the only customers) so hard to get their attention. The decoration is fine..certainly a place for mezcal and tequila although with the tight parking (plenty of spaces but not a lot of room to move through and around) I'd be wary of navigating after sampling some. So, probably would not return..food too bland, and close to zero GF options. We can't be the only ones thinking this if the place is empty around noon on a Saturday. UPDATE TWO DAYS LATER: the restaurant double billed our credit card for this lunch. I called Chase and the fraud group confirmed a double entry had posted. They will be calling the restaurant back to resolve this but I get the credit now. Check your online billing if you dine here !!
Be the first to ReplyGreat service.
Food is always amazing, love the tequila selection and tequila lockers. Great music.
Be the first to ReplyIt's been like a year since I ate here.
I don't recall what I had to be transparent, but I do recall that the whatever we had was mediocre at best and expensive. It's not very authentic tasting Mexican at all. Very bland in comparison if you've ever actually had good Mexican food.
Be the first to ReplyLoved the ambiance and vibe of the restaurant.
Servings were pretty big, so make sure it keep that in mind when ordering in case you want to split with a friend. Our waiter was nice. I ordered the CAMARONES A LA DIABLA and it was very good!

Checked out the menu---one item labelled okay as GF had as its first line "with flour tortillas." Giving this place a miss....
Be the first to ReplyWe wanted to like this restaurant but the queso fundido
We wanted to like this restaurant but the queso fundido had barely any queso and was mainly a pile of chorizo and peppers/onions and because of that extremely extremely oily. We ordered the shrimp tacos to share after seeing how big the appetizer was and they were terrible. Way too much jicama and zero flavor. About 20 minutes after eating I began feeling sick and think it was because the shrimp was off. We will not be returning.
Be the first to ReplyThis place has a lot of mixed reviews, but I've come here
This place has a lot of mixed reviews, but I've come here 3x and have really like it. Every time I've come here, the service has been amazing!!! Everyone is so friendly and accommodating. The decor is pleasant and the prices are average. With regards to the food ... two words -- free chips!!! Unlike so many places in the city, this place gives you free chips. Thank you so much, Condessa, and don't ever change. I've gotten their guacamole and their salsa trio before. Both averagely delicious. Their fajitas are also good. However, where they truly shine ... is there burritos. So big and juicy!!! Such a good value. I eat half of it and have half for later. I also really enjoy their margaritas here. Bigger than other places in the city. I wish they'd have the margaritas with the corona sticking out of them too though. Alsooooo ... if you're up for it, get the tequila sampler. It's and experience!!!
Be the first to ReplyImagine a cooking competition, but judged by regular people
Imagine a cooking competition, but judged by regular people who may eliminate a dish because of a disdain for sour cream (or something). I try to avoid deducting stars for personal preference, which makes writing balanced reviews tricky. This was the case with the Al Pastor Tacos. I tried the Jalapeรฑo Calamari, Tacos Al Pastor, and a virgin Margarita (requested as not too sweet). Chips and salsa were also served to start. The chips were nothing to write home about, and they seemed like they were out of a bag and lacked even salt. The salsa offered some redemption. While it wasn't chunky as I prefer, I will give them points for the salsa being delightfully peppery! The Jalapeรฑo Calamari was excellent! It was cooked to perfection, and the squid wasn't rubbery! The breading was very crisp and had a pleasant level of heat. The Chipotle aioli was enjoyable and added a lovely creaminess and additional savoriness. It did take a little of the edge off the heat, interestingly. Meanwhile, while I liked the jicama as an ingredient, its use as a garnish in this dish felt out of place. Calamari is finger food, and julienned jicama is not; do I grab a ton of matchsticks and devour them that way? I'm on a first date here! I want to seem like a gentleman, not a barbarian. Finally, there's the question of the fried jalapeรฑos the menu claimed would make an appearance, and they did not. There were instead three slices of fresh (uncooked) pepper, and that's it. With this dish, word of advice (and I make no claim this originates in the mind of greatness). Combine the jicama, jalapeรฑo, and maybe another ingredient (or two) into a side salad or slaw. The Tacos Al Pastor is where this review starts to get hairy for me. Before I break out the stocks and pillory the poor chef, let me share some positives. First, they do not skimp on meat. The amount of pork is just right, not so much they overflow, not so little it seems like a condiment. Second, points for authenticity with the tacos being topped with just onion and cilantro. Third, I enjoyed the rice and beans. The rice was cooked perfectly, and the beans though mashed, had terrific flavor and texture. However, here comes leading the chef to the stocks. This is where I try to be lenient as it applies to stars: If I were to condense my issue with the tacos into a sentence: they lack 'oomph.' The pork seemed more braised (together with pineapple). This could be a 'me' thing as I am not a fan of braised meat. However, braised or not, the flavors of both protein and pineapple seemed muted. As for texture, it was somewhere between tender and tough. Same thing with moisture, not dry, but not what I call moist either. Now, I realize pork is not inherently a tender or moist meat, yet this preparation still left some to be desired. If I can suggest one change (without redoing the pork), it is to add a crema or other sauce, preferably with a touch of heat). When it comes to the [not too sweet] virgin margaritas, these were, as the server described them, "Fancy lemonade." While these were enjoyable, they landed on the bill at $10. Mocktails are in a grey area in terms of price... I get why they wouldn't cost as much as coke, and they should be cheaper than their alcoholic cousins. However, whereas most margaritas are $12, ten bucks for "fancy lemonade" seems excessive. Finally, there is the service. Our server was kind, knowledgeable, and had a cheerful demeanor. However, I found the overall service slow, and I could have been more attentive. While the Jalapeรฑo Calamari was excellent, the rest of the meal and the service left some to be desired. It might be a good place for a bevy and some apps, but I don't feel a draw to return for a sit-down dinner.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely salty Tortilla Soup.
Practically inedible. The beans and rice sides tasted fine but they were the smallest portion sizes I've ever received. Shrimp were bland.

Ate here before a movie with family and we were pleasantly surprised by this stumble upon. Great lively place, menu huge (I haven't even touched surface) and service very fast. Starters: Nachos guacamole Queso Fumdido Meal: Camarones Al Ajillo (great portion, lots of shrimp, peppers perfect kick, rice good and easy to make each roll up)
Be the first to ReplyWe had seen this restaurant every time we came to Arsenal
We had seen this restaurant every time we came to Arsenal yards but hadn't been until now. Seems like they're quite popular. Glad we made reservations few days ahead. Also, with the holidays, places get busy.Really cool entryway with a huge bright colorful glass chandelier! Also cool holiday decor.Inside seemed smaller than I'd thought it would be. And it was packed which is a good sign. Chips and salsa for the table came immediately and was tasty. The salsa was more of a sauce rather than chopped. We ordered the La Sandia watermelon margarita which was really good. Street corn on the cob with cheese was quite good but I've had better. For entrees we ordered the chili lime salmon, the enchilada mole, and the pork burrito. Everything was tasty. I was looking for a lime or lemon to squeeze on my salmon and fished out the wedge of lime out of the margarita hehe!! Decor is cool with a mix of graphic art and food pictures on the walls. The wall of windows is lined with hanging plants which is nice.It is a bit loud but that's to be expected since it's a small space and lots of people, plus the music. Overall nice meal and worth trying at least once.
Be the first to ReplyThe drinks and ambiance were great but the food was just ok.
Excellent customer service though. My burrito was swimming in sauce, it made the tortilla soggy, not many shrimp inside but tons of onions and peppers. I feel like the burritos should be smaller and more shrimp inside. It felt more like a veggie burrito. My husband did enjoy the chicken tortilla soup but felt like the quesadillas were lacking flavor. I would try it again. We've been to many Mexican restaurants so we expected a lot more flavor.

Not sure how some people on here are giving bad reviews! Food and beverages were good. Will definitely return!
Be the first to ReplyThe chilaquiles was very average.
The chicken and avocado tasted very fresh but there WAY too much tortilla chips at the bottom and felt like there wasn't enough beans/cheese. I would not get this again at brunch. The guac was really delicious though! We got that to share between the 4 of us and it was yummy. Service was also good. Waitress was really nice. Food was also FAST which we liked and everyone liked the vibe of the restaurant. Bathroom was also CLEAN!
Be the first to ReplyI would not feed this food to my dog.
I understand that sounds harsh but it was very disappointing. My meat was over cooked and super thin. Everything looked unappetizing. The service here also sucked. Everything took way to long. I wish I looked more into the reviews before coming here. I would not recommend or return.
Be the first to ReplyI've eaten here twice now.
It's very fun for a girls' night. I enjoy the margaritas here, and the food is delicious. The chips and salsa are a great start. Service has been fantastic every time we've come. I highly recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for the first time this week.
Great drinks, especially The Don Margarita (be cautioned, it's strong)! They also have an extensive list of different tequilas if that's your jam. Food was tasty, I had the shrimp burrito which was huge and very fresh! Guac was tasty and served nicely in a stone bowl. Service was good and done at a reasonable pace.
