WHAT A JOKE!
If you want to pay a lot for mediocre to tasteless food this is the place for you. The server who took our order was dismissive. The fish was tasteless. The mole was awful. The pea dish that was supposed to be a signature menu item was - well i don't know what it was. The steak at $106 was ok. The drinks were good. The noise level was oppressive.

We had been looking forward to come to Cosme since a while back, expecting incredible food, the food was just OK, not bad, but nothing special, same guacamole, tamales, ceviche, chiles that you can find at a lot less expensive Mexican restaurants. The service was good, the restaurant is pretty but it is not worth the price.

We went for lunch on a Saturday February 10 2024 at 2 PM. I was told our reservation was for the bar, though I booked a table. I was also ensured there was a lunch menu, but when I requested it was told the dinner menu wasnโt available until 5:30. What dinner menu? We walkout. Later that day, after an amazing lunch at a the Skylight Diner, I received an email thanking me for spending our money there. Then the next day I received an email from theirโguest relations managerโ thanking me for being a guest. We spent 10 minutes there, the front desk staff thank us and hoped we enjoyed our meal, which means they were so engrossed in their social media they had no clue who their customers were since we walked out 10 minutes after entering. So bottom line, I have no clue about the quality of the food only we did not want to eat breakfast at 2 PM, service is fully inattentive and communication both via phone and website is highly lacking.
Be the first to ReplyFood Is Exciting And Excellent.
Cosme is a contemporary Mexican restaurant in NYC's Flatiron District serving food-fare supported by the fruits of local purveyors. The restaurant occupies a groovy space with a trendy bar up front, roomy dining tables escorted by soft lighting making Cosme a delightful and handsome place. My fly over the menu revealed a bevy of upscale dishes ranging from Striped Bass to Grilled Octopus to Broccolini. I couldn't pass on the Duck Carnitas, a massive dish of juicy roasted duck paired with warm tortillas......excellent ( ordered with a few rounds of Classic Margaritas). The beverage program pairs nicely with the menu items and embraces Classic Mexican concoctions and a curated wine list as well as over-the-top cocktails. Food here is exciting and excellent.........I plan another visit.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious, expensive, loud. great Mezcal.
Haute Mexican, very interesting a delicious dishes, excellent service. Very nicely decorated, but not a place for quiet conversation! Be prepared to spend mucho dinero. If you're comfortable with that, you'll enjoy. They have a great Mezcal selection, the mezcallier new his stuff.

Delightful experience just about in all fronts. Nice and elegantly contemporary setting, amazing cocktail choices, cheerful and amazingly tasty food, and calm services. Sitting in the bar is probably better than a table as food and wine are combined visually and also in smell and sound, and the lightingis just better. Fantastic place for brunch! Oh, the colors!

Just had dinner with my family at this restaurant. The menu was impossible to understand and the waiter not in the mood to explain. Massively overpriced with a stake with tacos at 96 dollars for a stake enough for one person rather than sharing. Immediately after having paid we were encouraged to leave after a 45-minute dinner as there was another reservation. Very impolite staff and ever worse at reception. One of the most miserable dinner and experience in my whole life, all for over 200 bucks. Unbelievable!

I appreciate creative dishes โ from the taste to presentation. Everything was new to me. Even the guacamole looked and tasted different. There seemed to be more vegetarian than meat options and the plates were designed to be shared so it was a tad challenging for a solo diner. It had great beverage options however! The place was loud and packed and a little on the pricey side. Great for groups for sure.

This restaurant was recommended by a concierge at a luxury hotel nearby. When we arrived at our table, it was very dark and very crowded. You could hear the entire conversation at tables on both sides of you. The service of our waiter was mediocre at best, never came back to ask us if we were enjoying our meal, and didn't seem to care and was not very friendly. Food was very expensive and could be considered not even Mexican. We were craving Mexican food and this did not satisfy. We ordered a Molรฉ dish and the molรฉ was tasty, however they put thick chewy greens on top that were so hard to chew I almost choked, it ruined the entire dish. The guacamole was very good and that was the highlight of the meal. If you are looking for true Mexican food and good service without extremely high prices, choose another restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyLoud, expensive, and not so much Mexican
As most we had a reservation at a due hour, as most they asked us to wait in a crowded corner without seat as the tables where still occupied. The location is very basic, without frills, but clean. Yet itโs very dark, the menu is unreadable unless you use your phone light. Guacamole delicious, tataki Al pastor(they donโt have translations or explaination of the menu) itโs made of some kind of unknown white fish that you roll up in tortillas(nobody mentioned upon order) with some sauce unidentified. The wagyu beef (typical Mexican, everyone knows itโฆ. And what kind of wagyu??) with some souce never described. The sorbet is very good. Well, itโs a nice place, very popular and high end, but as time goes by my impression is that is more a place to beโฆ or to be seen rather than the representation of modern Mexican food. Noโฆ no more.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious and great aged and unique tequilas
The ideal Sunday afternoon summer early dinner (I was a touch hungover as well...). Lovely interiors and attentive service, and the food was absolutely delicious. Worthy of its michelin star with this inventive approach to Mexican food. And of course, great tequilas, we tried a bunch of the rarer sipping ones.

Having visited the excellent Purjol late last year, I was excited to try Enrique Olveraโs NYC restaurant. And whilst I did not expect the same thing, the sheer quality of experience in the former had me very excited for the latter. However, unfortunately, this is where the excitement ended. Having made a purposeful late evening reservation for two in mid Octoberโ22, we arrived very much ready to eat. We were told there would be a short wait as the table was prepared, and asked if we would mind stepping to the side of the waiting area. This wait went on for a staggering 50 mins. And during this time not once were we updated, handed a drinks menu or apologised to. I completely understand reservation times slipping a little, especially on a busy Saturday evening, but to have patrons waiting for nearly an hour without so much as a brief update is extremely disappointing, particularly when this restaurant is connected to one of the worlds best. The apathetic front of house staff stood practically motionless as we watched two couples leave after forty minutes and others try, unsuccessfully, to garner any information. When we were eventually seated (having very nearly left ourselves) not once did the staff mention the insane wait, apologise or even talk to us. Whilst the food was excellent, it was completely marred by the wait, where weโd unfortunately pushed past the point of hunger. In the myriad restaurants Iโve eaten in across the world, from street food to Michelin starred establishments, Iโve never experienced such bad service, to the point where it effectively ruined a great meal. Sadly, I could not recommend.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful place, overrated food
We landed in Cosme very excited as a friend recommended us; unfortunately, our experience didn't match the expectations for a restaurant with such aspirations. Positive: - The venue: The place and environment are simply beautiful - Quality of ingredients was very high - Meringue dessert is simply perfect. The only highlight of the dinner Negative: - Menu options are very few, so I expect every dish to be perfect and surprise the paladar. Unfortunately, only the dessert did that. The guacamole was good, but only because it was only good quality avocado, with no preparation whatsoever. The other dishes we tried were the same, nothing you can feel complex dishes and flavours. One dish, in particular, was a joke, two tortilla chips with two tiny sauces...which btw were nothing out of this world; in fact, they followed the same trend above mentioned - Cocktails: Expensive and were mainly water. I promise I'm no alcoholic, but I tried 2 of them, and both were tasteless... - My only complaint about the service was that they did not help us to choose our dinner well. The waiter pushed us to order more dishes as we ordered "too low," and we ended up having issues finishing everything... And just a warning, if you are not a fan of fish, I would choose any other place as their menu is very heavy on it.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best restaurants in NYC
I've lived in New York my whole life and have to say this is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. I got the soft shell crab, the octopus tostada, the tataki and the duck. All were 11/10. The black sesame + corn desserts were also incredible.
Be the first to ReplyGreat as always
Our go to in NYC. Blasphemy some would say but we enjoy Cosme as much as Pujols ( food that is - atmosphere at Pujols unparalleled). Crudos are always lovely as are the salads. The noise is deafening when the resto is full as it almost always is - so some dampening curtains or other treatments would be welcome. Please - really- please name another Michelin-type resto where a diner can get habaneros. The one time I was a disappointed was when our lamb barbacoa was unable to be accompanied by fresh charred habaneros and shishitos and serranos subbed in. Do nibble at the mezcals and have them accompany the meal not just as an aperitif or digestif.
Be the first to ReplyOne of USA's most expensive Mexican restaurants
While I knew this would be expensive, I wasn't prepared for the what was to come: tiny portions (that are meant to be shared"family style"?!), preposterously expensive, and noisy. We ordered two "small" plates and two "medium." The menus feature grey font on brown paper - very hard to read, with terms and ingredients you have to google. The waiter's descriptions were overly detailed giving you no idea what the dish actually contains. The margaritas were good however.

Some items were really great. The duck is clearly the star item on the menu-it can feed four people. The guacamole is great as well. The rest of the items were pretty average. Disappointed that there werenโt more meat options. It was also loud- and we were there on a Tuesday night. Also agree with other reviews that the staff recommends too many dishes.

What a find - back the the UK Mexican restaurants are nachos and chilli .. here in NYC Cosme takes it to another level. Awesome service, great food, wine expensive as youโd expect but a great meal.

I love Cosme! The food is fresh and vibrant, the flavors well-balanced and vinrant, and the service attentive and kind. I left, again, feeling spoiled and blissful.

Dissatisfied and disappointed
Over priced, music to loud, everyone has to shout to talk, we had to sit next to very loud people who were just trying to shout to hear each other, waiter recommends to order more than needed. We will not be coming back. We didnโt even eat one of the dishes (sweet potato) as it was tasteless, no mention of removing this from the bill. Extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. Not michlin star quality food or service.

We had a lovely evening. Our favorites were the brisket and the guacamole. In terms of dessert, the banana matcha pecan had a lovely tea aftertaste. My suggestion to the chef would be to increase the size of the Wagyu beef otherwise you can hardly taste it.

Delicious food and great staff! Memorable night. Our favorite menu item was the duck carnitas, hands down. They were cooked perfectly and so tasty!
Be the first to ReplySome totally new and delicious flavors
The decor is really cool and the food was very tasty. There were a few flavor creations that were Mexican but also totally new to my palate. The service was also excellent. I could have enjoyed slightly larger portions but I was very satisfied and had a really lovely evening.

How Cosme has a Michelin star is beyond me. There are many dynamics that go into a rating deserving of a star and Cosme just doesn't make it. First, the ambience is that there is no ambience. The music is just loud enough to make people talk loud enough to be heard at their tables. So, the place is loud and the reverb makes it worse. Not a peaceful environment. Second - there are many waiters/waitresses running all over to the point where you feel this sense of busy-ness, which really takes away from a peaceful meal. More so, when you order a second round, that usually means bring the same drink right? Ooops - they blew that one. Lastly - the food. The guacamole was excellent - but overpriced. In fact, everything is way over priced. And the waiters should not recommend too much food - but they did. Two from the "small plates", two from the "medium" and two from the "large"?? Way too much. A very annoying thing - they use a blue corn tortilla for everything. It's baked to hardness for chips and salsa, then the same comes with the guacamole, the same used on a tostada and then, yes, the same for soft tortillas with the brisket. Just way too much of the same thing. Lastly, the brisket on the "large" plates tasted like pastrami and didn't look much different. Bottom line - my recommendation is don't go. It's just not worth it on many levels.
