I was becoming a card carrying (Medicare) senior citizen, turning 65 on July 25th. My son and my husband's sister gave me a total of $200 in gift certificates. Our reservation was for 5 pm. Walking in the door, I was already impressed! A comfy and inviting ambiance and not the sawdust covered floor as I had expected in a cowboy place. Pleasantly surprised! The host showed us to our booth. Our waiter, Mark, immediately greeted us and asked for our drink orders. He was so expert at presenting the specials and he explained the different steaks and other menu offerings. He sold us on the foraged mushrooms to accompany our meal and took our meal order. My husband and I both ordered a 14 Oz. Ribeye steak...rare, of course! Mom ordered the filet mignon, also rare (is there any other civilized way to eat steak?)Parker House Rolls and butter arrived along with our drinks. Next, followed by the mushrooms and then, finally, our steaks. OMG! Our steaks sat atop a mountain of tasty mashed potatoes and broccolini. But those steaks were screaming out to be consumed! My ribeye was grilled perfectly! It cut like butter. The taste, once it met my tongue, was superb! I savored every bite, trying to make the ecstasy last. I dove into the mashed taters and broccolini. Now I loved those taters, but I'm not a fan of broccolini. Both were excellent. The potatoes were smooth and buttery and (believe it or not!) I even loved the crunch of the broccolini, done and delicious but not boiled to within an inch of its tasty life. Mike (handsome as hell and friendly) was attentive without hovering. I told him about my three gift certificates, hoping it wasn't going to be a pain to process for Mike. He assured me that he would take care of it and that it was no bother. He brought the check (we had a balance due of less than $20. We paid it by card but gave a hearty cash tip to Mike. Good atmosphere, handsome and efficient servers, and excellent food. I couldn't have had a better 65th birthday! I highly recommend Cowboy Star!
