Cowford Chophouse didn't disappoint....they actually over delivered on a wonderful dining experience! From the second we walked in the door and were greeted by the friendly hostesses and given a history on the wine locker wall to the extremely attentive, knowledgeable and personable lead server (I forget her name, but she was GREAT!). I had the salmon with a side of mushrooms, a glass of the Riesling and wasn't going to get dessert, but when our server told me about the pastry chef and the homemade honey-vanilla ice cream served with cheesecake in a raspberry sauce, how could I not?! It was worth every single calorie! Don't miss the chocolate covered butter mints on your way out - they are a unique little treat to end your dining experience with! Thank you, Cowford for a great night and compliments to the Chefs!

This is an elegant setting (a teensy bit pretentious) and the service was good, but the food was absolutely nothing special, very average and grossly overpriced. None of us had a spectacular meal, and some things were less than stellar (the appetizers and the vegetables, for example). We didn't hate it but would never return.

We visited on my wife's birthday. She loves steaks but is often disappointed by higher end establishments. Not the case at Cowford's. She loved her steak, and everything else. Service was stupendous (thanks Gem! and his assistants). We had the bacon app and the mozzarella app special. She had the filet and I had the salmon. We shared the whipped potatoes. Breakdown! The mozz app was good, baguettes were spot on. The bacon app, well for me, way too fatty. I like super crispy bacon. This was 3 large thick fatty slices, more like pork chop slices, not my vibe, but she was okay with it. Her filet was perfect with wonderful flavor. My salmon was excellent with great flavor, without any sauce needed. The whipped potatoes were good but ask for butter. It is flavored in some way and wonderfully compliments the potatoes. We skipped dessert. She loved her vodka strawberry lemonade drink. I enjoyed sanples from a very nice whisky selection. After the tip, we topped $200 for the 2 of us but felt like it was a good value for a wonderful dining experience. We left feeling truly pampered. Will definitely go back, but only for special occasions as it is generally out of our price range.

I will start with I will never attempt to go back. Our first visit last year was hit an miss. The food was good (mushroom risotto admittedly was wonderful), the service was good, management needs to give more attention to hostesses/reservations person. They very easily discriminate against the disabled. Hiding behind they are just too busy to fully accommodate someone in a wheelchair. They quickly offer there is ample room to sit at the rooftop bar. Problem is on the rooftop bar the only tables are bar height tables. The day we visited it was raining outside and the sidewalk flooded horribly. I am wheelchair dependent and that caused my wife an I to get soaked coming into the building and we were trapped for over an hour after dinner finished due to the flooding entryway. I Attempted to make reservations a number of times since and was always unable to based on a number of poor reasons/excuses. Regardless, reservations were never available when I tried to make them. Now on to yesterday, July 4th. Was able to make reservations for my wifes birthday... Check! I called a few days prior to verify valet services were still available.... answer was YES.. Check! Let me take a moment and explain why valet is sooo critical to someone in a wheelchair. Having someone available to help load/unload a wheelchair is a great help, side street parking does not allow for a person in a wheelchair to transfer to/from the car. In our case, valet parking is less a vanity concern and much more a needed service. Weather looked a bit iffy for rain so I called about 2 pm to verify valet was still offered and had they fixed the flooding issue at the entryway when it rains. I spoke with the roof top bar manager and she shared yes to valet service is available and no to the flooding issue has been corrected. We arrived at 655pm for a 715pm reservation. NO VALET SERVICE. I called and the hostess started to apologize they were calling all the dinner reservations and somehow the call to notify me the valet service was NOT available had been missed. In my opinion, a bold-faced LIE. The valet service was a 3rd party company and out of their control. I was told there was ample side street parking available. Well as I was getting a combo of disappointed, mad and really mad... I noticed there were 5 homeless guys hanging out about 20 feet from the entryway. Maybe the homeless had reservations... I didnโt ask. We cancelled our reservations and called our go to for a great meal Fogo de Chao at the TownCenter. Fogo made our night special. The food was amazing, the service was better. AND dinner for my wife and I was at least 150.00 less than what I was willing to spend at the Chophouse. Do yourself a favor and forget the Chophouse exists and go drive to Fogo... Ask for Marcio the GM, Kelsey or Mateo (part of his management staff) and tell them you read about them here and AL and Chrissy recommended you check them out. You will NOT be disappointed. As far as the Cowford Chophouse, I would give them a zero rating if that was offered. I cant wait to keep sharing with my peers avoid this place like the plague!

My wife and I have not been out to a nice restaurant in a while and we decided to go downtown Jacksonville to Cowford Chophouse. The plan was to have the seafood tower and possibly split a steak and some sides. Once we got there, and we ordered the wood fired seafood tower, we looked at each other and said, โIโm not sure if we need a steak.โ We decided to skip the steak and go directly for dessert and we both had the crรจme brรปlรฉe. Both were fantastic. The woodfired seafood tower was incredible. Weโre already trying to figure out when weโre going to go back and spend some time on the roof.
Be the first to ReplyGracious greeting, mostly good food.
We made a reservation at Cowford Chophouse for an early dinner prior to seeing a show at the neighboring Florida Theater. The "greeters" were plentiful and gracious. We took the elevator to the rooftop bar and had drinks. All three were delicious; but one, a martini, was exceptionally expensive. When advised our table was ready, we were escorted to the second level dining area and greeted by our server. Our drink and appetizer order was fulfilled promptly. The cornbread special appetizer was not as good as anticipated. My short ribs for dinner were delicious, two in our party shared oysters that they said were good, but one of our party ordered a glass of wine that did not appear until after dinner. She was advised the bar was very busy. Cappuccino was not good and took too long to get to us. While most of the food was good, we were disappointed, and it is a very expensive place.
Be the first to ReplyGood steak with great service.
Excellent for a nice steak dinner. Table setting was well laid out. Cocktail was well made with the ingredients that I liked for a rye manhattan. Steak tartar appetizer was a treat not often seen. Smaller filet was cooked rare as I like it. Simple spinach side was nicely cooked. Decaf coffee was good to let me sleep after a long days of convention meetings. The waiter, Jason, made me feel at home by chatting about the book I had it tow. I ate early, so we chatted quite a bit as it was not busy yet. The hosts at the door on the way in and out were also very friendly and attentive to my wish for a table for one in a multi patron environment. I would go back in a minute, but make a reservation for a busy night, if one wants to eat at a later time.

Misty our server was wonderful! Very impressed by everyoneโs meals coming out together by a team of people. Slow getting beer orders filled due to issues with changing the kegs. Food was pretty good but need to work in your meatballs.

Arrived early, we were taken to the bar waited for our table. When Time came we were taken upstairs by the hostess to our table. The waitress took our drink order then went over the menu. My wife ordered the ribeye, and I ordered the bone in ribeye. They came out barely warm. they were tough and gritty, not what I expected for $69.00. I could of cooked a better steak my self. The cheese cake was a square 1" x 1". The place is nice, The Waitress was attentive. Food not so good

I came in with a friend after work for a drink and an app. We sat at the bar, I ordered the tuna tartare - delicious. The place has a great vibe, I definitely need to go back at night time. ~ Vine con una amiga despuรฉs del trabajo por una bebida y una aperitivo. The service, the environment and food in phenominal! The way all guests at the table are served their plates at the same time by multiple waiters.

Cowford Chophouse in Jacksonville is a great place to go for quality steak and much more. I really like the location and everything that they have available on the menu here. The staff here is very attentive and makes sure that you have everything that you need.

I have been going to Cowford periodically since 2018. Although I don't live in Jacksonville, I make a point to dine at Cowford when I am in town. I have had business and family dinners here, most recently when we were in town for the Gator Bowl in December, 2022. Atmosphere is classy but not stuffy. Staff is welcoming. In terms of our meal. we had a tuna appetizer, which was larger than some restaurants serve as appetizers. Was very good and fresh. My wife and daughter had bone in ribeyes and I had the grouper special for dinner. All the meals were excellent. We also had a side of risotto which I would highly recommend. Service was on point, even dealing some folks who clearly had been indulging at the game. Highly recommend Cowford!
Be the first to ReplyBad Service!
This restaurant is very classy in their various services but are lacking in "basic" good service. Our main waiter "Devon" was completely inept and when I tried to express to him what we were unhappy about he basically "took me to school" about how a restaurant is run and how I should behave differently the "next time" we come there. I assure you there will not be a next time! The food was good but of course pricey. The only thing that makes a restaurant like this better is the great service and they don't have it.

The service was fine although our waiter talked so fast and i had to have him repeat a dozen times. The costs are not worth the food. We ordered foie gras for an app and it was terrible. I am not a chef, but the mixed flavors were all off and the presentation was just very strange. My wife and I both hated it. The waiter knew we hated it and didn't really address it. They want to be a steakhouse, but it comes across as French? Either you are a steakhouse or you are French. They are trying to be both and it fails miserably. My drinks were not good either. I got a Florida old-fashioned and another walnut rye whiskey drink. They were average or below. My wife ordered a cocktail and she said it tasted like juice. The good thing is they were not that expensive for drinks. I ordered a boneless rib-eye and my wife ordered lobster with crab meat. They were good, but to me, not worth the costs.

First Time trying. We had drinks and an appetizer on the roof during happy hour which starts at four during the week. The drinks were fabulous. I plan on returning when the weathers a little warmer. We went for dinner and had a reservation for the first floor. My husband had a fish special and it was delicious I had the spiritless cut of beef which was $75 but I have tried it before and it is my new favorite. It is the Of the ribeye. We had the seasonal vegetable and potatoes which was enough for three people so we took some home. The only miss was there take Alaska desert. The pistachio ice cream didnโt seem to have much pistachio flavor. We will be returning
Be the first to ReplyDinner is a waste of money
Not good atmosphere or food or service
We were in a โprivateโ room for a work Christmas party. It was not decorated at all and had no music. Service was often non existent. Apps were put on the table cold. Fish was dried out and uneatable. Filet was sent back by 4 guests as it was undercooked (not mentioning the fact that is had ZERO seasoning.) service was almost not there at all. Weโve been there many times for rooftop cocktails and atmosphere - that is all I would recommend at this place. This was our third time having a sit down dinner and every time that has been bad- food and service. Recommend for cocktail on the roof and nothing more.
Just OK
I was taken to Cowford for my birthday by three friends. I had been there for lunch a few months after it opened. They did a great job on renovating the building and helping improve what is still a very unsightly downtown in most places. Good thing they have complimentary valet parking. I would not want to walk to my car in downtown Jacksonville after 5 pm. The salads were nothing special, the filet was well prepared and the potatoes were also nothing special, service was ok, guess they were short on staff as are most restaurants these days. The waitress was very nice and professional. I would rate the price value one star, very high prices for Jacksonville, after all it's not LA, NYC or DC. Prices are competitive with Morton's and Ruth Chris which are also overpriced. Better to buy a prime filet at Fresh Market make your own salad and potatoes and eat at home for a third of the price. Had dinner at Husk in Nashville a week later, excellent and less expensive. Also a much better city, not concerned about walking around after 5pm.

Best restaurant in Jacksonville!
Absolutely wonderful experience from drinks to dinner!! My husband and I visited this amazing restaurant for his birthday and we had the most amazing time. The bar was lovely and fun, then we moved upstairs for a fabulous dinner. Everything from the appetizer to dessert was beyond incredible, and we had a really fantastic waiter, John, who was attentive and great. We even had the pleasure of meeting the manager, Liz, and she was warm, lovely and so appreciative when we told her about what a special time we had. We will be back again soon. Donโt miss what I would say is the best restaurant in Jacksonville!!!

Pricey, but very good. I had the pork chop which was very tasty with the chutney. The bread was good as was the service. Neat downtown building with lots of character.
Be the first to ReplyPoor experience will not return.
Have had 2 bad experiences in a row. Brought my new employee and her boyfriend here 2 visits ago to celebrate their new job. The kitchen had metal and a screw in one of their meals. This was an embarrassing mishap for a restaurant that charges as much as Cowford. We came for our final time this week and had sat in the corner of the rooftop away from any party. We had management come up to us in the beginning of our visit and tell me to not have one of my feet propped on the table because it upset the guests. Our waiter was nice but I do not appreciate being spoken to in such a ridiculous and disrespectful manner as a patron who contributes thousands of dollars a year to this establishment. I am someone who spends thousands of dollars a month at restuarants in Jacksonville and am always polite + tip above 20%. I will not be returning to this establishment after our 2 most recent experiences. This is not best practices for an expensive restaurant who should welcome regular customers who tip well. We had a 6 person dinner planned in the near future that would have been $1500 or more before tip for the table. Well take our business elsewhere.

Went for our anniversary and it exceeded every expectation. Started the night with a complimentary champagne toast. Had the Wagyu and it was worth every penny, cooked to perfection. Potatoes Au Gratin and risotto were a hit. Our server Billy was very knowledgeable and helped us navigate the menu to a tee. Even the manager Zhanna stopped by to wish us a happy anniversary. The teamwork on every level here was flawless. For any special occasion I would recommend Cowford and their amazing team!
