Cress on Oak Creek Sedona Reviews from The Last Year
Too many other pretty places with Great food in Sedona
So, the good first..... beautiful atmosphere on Oak Creek. Service was pleasant. Unfortunately, breakfast was very average and the pancakes were nothing extraordinary. For the prices they charge, including a $17 valet fee - I expected so much more. Too many beautiful places to eat in Sedona to waste time here. Hard pass.
The ONLY wonderful part of this experience is the location.
Cocktails were weak. Two very tiny pieces of lobster for $80! One cup of Truffle soup for $30. The "spaghetti" that was served as part of the meal was a spoonful of cold pasta. Been to many fine dining experiences across the nation and world but this one was extremely pricy and bland tasting. Service was very good. Hate to do one star but maybe this restaurant will figure it out.
Pleasant but very slow service.
Don't go hungry. You will go through 3 bread baskets before you get your meal. I guess the idea is to have you drink your way through your meal. Although tasty, the portions are VERY small. We ordered à la cart off of the menu. My Husband had the lobster tail. Or half a lobster tail. The piece of tail was smaller than his big toe. I've seen shrimp larger. The big kicker was when we left, it was a $17 to retrieve our vehicle from valet parking. Not that we were given a choice. Spend your money ekse
Ambiance is really nice, food is way overpriced.
We had the waygu and they served us a sirloin. We stayed on property, and I would recommend going elsewhere.
Ambiance was great! We were seated outside.
Food was way overpriced and under delivered. We ordered the ribeye and were given an overly fatty sirloin.
The most disappointing dining experience I’ve ever had.
This restaurant is beautifully set along the creek and is a gem of a property from a location standpoint. Unfortunately, the accolades end there. I took my better half to celebrate her birthday and it was a total disappointment. The service was untrained and lacked intuitiveness of when to be there, when to allow for conversation, when to clear plates among other things. I don’t expect these things from a standard restaurant but at an Auberge property at that price point I absolutely do. The food was not good and I mean certain courses were inedible. The wine service was not done by a trained server which at several hundred dollars a bottle you would hope to get more than “mmm that cork smells good”. Again, I sound pretentious but genuinely I am not. I just came in expecting so much more than what was delivered. The bill came out north if $700 for two and the experience dragged on for over three uninspired hours. There’s no question that the potential is there but the food needs help and the service just needs training. Total skip for me.
Um...this was bad. I get prix fixed menus...but not when
Um...this was bad. I get prix fixed menus...but not when everything sucks. Sorry to be so straight forward, but this was bad. Overpriced, overrated. Food was really gross. Steak did not come as I ordered and was room temp. I'm not sure what those potatoes were, but yucky truffled crap. I can only hope the rest of our food experience in Sedona gets better!
We came here on recommendation.
The ambience was nice and the atmosphere was very romantic, however there were many things wrong with this establishment. We arrived early and were directed to the bar. (we walked and didn't take a car so I can't speak if they still charge $17 for valet parking). The bartenders were friendly and the cocktails were good and had good presentation. We were told our table was ready so on our way past the wait stand we were asked if we wanted the three or six course meal. This was an odd question in the moment so I said well we'll have to decide on that when we sit down. The front of house person pulled out the two menus and had us select it standing *AT* the wait stand. I thought that was such a bizarre thing. Anyway.. moving on to when we were seated... The bartender brought over the cocktails from the bar on the platter and then the waiter asked if we wanted cocktails as he approached the table with the cocktails on them? We politely declined. Then he said something akin to "you want the six course meal?" and we said yes. The initial palate cleanser came with no napkins. The bread course came and we had to ask for both napkins and a plate to place the bread. We ordered a wine and they brought out the wrong vintage compared to what was in the wine list - the waiter apologized but for the price I was expecting the older vintage. Then the next few courses came out of order. The party next to us were seated before us and they skipped one of their course and gave it to our table (we didn't realize what happened until after we started eating - that couple was not happy). The food server assisting the waiter eventually owned up to the mistake and apologized to both parties. Each course took about 15-20 minutes to receive which I thought was pretty long. Most of them were decent enough, but when the main wagyu course came, it was pretty tasteless and burnt on the outside. I don't even think it was wagyu to be honest with you. Then came the dessert - which was oversized compared to the rest of the courses - i guess some people would like that but we thought it was only ok - very rich. The other couple got so fed up with waiting we were pretty sure they actually left without paying - which was pretty ballsy, but I have to respect them for it. While the atmosphere was chic and romantic, we've been to fine dining/tasting menu places before and we think this place was pretty mediocre. Overall we were really disappointed.
The service was good as was the wine pairing but the food
The service was good as was the wine pairing but the food wasn't actually the opposite and the portions were so small we couldn't believe it. Actually it was a joke. On top of that the menu prices were very deceptive and what we expected to cost $450 turned out to be over $700 for two people. When you combine deceptive pricing with tiny portions of mediocre food for $350 per person you will understand why we're so disappointed and it was Valentine's Day. The fact is was Valentine's Day was the only reason I didn't refuse to pay I sent a note to the restaurant management through Open Table requesting a refund but that went unanswered. I strongly suggest everyone stay away from this restaurant.
We had a delightful multi-course meal here for Valentine's
We had a delightful multi-course meal here for Valentine's Day. It was a wonderful, upscale dining experience with live Viola music, wine-pairing, and white tablecloths. Our service was spot on, prompt, and timely. Everything was delicious and the setting overlooking Oak Creek is so romantic. We had a wonderful time. I highly recommend Cress for an amazing dinner experience while visiting Sedona to relish a true fine dining experience.
Beautiful inviting location.
Had a walking violinist playing during dinner. Not too loud. We had the 6 course tasting menu. All was fantastic except the steak which was supposed to be Wagyu but really didn't taste or feel like it. Service was superb and they are flexible if you have food allergies.
You cannot beat the view and the location.
It is beautiful and such a nice experience. There was some live music. It was a lunch time buffet on a Sunday. If you have a perfect seat on the water, it is a long trip to the buffet, but the seat is worth it. I would love to come back. For a buffet, the food was really good. It didn't feel like it was sitting out under a heat lamp forever.
We went to Cress a couple nights before NYE.
Our final total price with a 6 course tasting and wine pairings with tip was about $820 for 2. For that price, it should have been one of the best meals of our lives. Unfortunately, it was not. The food took forever and only half of the courses were really good. The mushroom soup and the gnocchi were top notch, however the cod tart and the dessert fell short of mediocre. To summarize the night, we arrived early at about 6:10 pm for a 6:30 pm reservation, and found out we had to pay $17 for parking. On the plus side, the valet man said he would charge our car, which we later found out he did not. When we arrived inside, we were asked to wait until 6:30 to be seated, we were not offered any beverages while waiting and we were not greeted nicely either. When our table was ready we were pulled from the bar and there was an awkward moment with the bartender and hostess about moving our tabs. The first two dishes of the 6 courses were honestly amazing so we put the little inconveniences aside. However, the rest of the courses were mediocre, at best. The cod tart was not good, the wagyu was over cooked, and the dessert was too sweet. There were other patrons who were visibly upset with the service and/or food. We essentially paid rent with the price of this meal, and the service AND quality of the food were NOT worth it. The service was SLOW, we did not finish until almost 10 pm. Would not recommend, and would never go back.
Mediocre food that breaks the bank

Every few years my wife and I make the pilgrimage to
Every few years my wife and I make the pilgrimage to L'Auberge to dine at the Cress restaurant which overlooks the creek. First and foremost is the ambiance. It's intimate and stunning. Truly second-to-none. Just take a look at the video I posted of the creek, which you view as you dine. It's serene and invigorating for the soul. The reason this review is a 4-star vs 5-star is unfortunately the limited menu, very high prices, and while good, not great food experience. In previous visits to this restaurants, we've thoroughly enjoyed the food. There was options and variety. However, not sure if this was specific to New Years or a new thing, but our only option was a 3 or 6 course meal. We opted for the 3-course, which was $150 per person, drinks not included (!). I'm not one to normally criticize price, but the culinary experience didn't live up to the cost. The soup was great, the steelhead trout main dish was just ok, and the pistachio cake dessert was great. Drinks were great as well. All in all, we had a good time and enjoyed the scenery. But, for $400 with gratuity included, we feel the culinary experience could have been better.
They charged $35 bucks for a glass of Chardonnay.
Rip off. Absolute rip off!!! 17 to park a car and walk 100 feet to the restaurant. A BIGGER RIPOFF!!! Hostess gave attitude. Why? I have no idea. Food was good but not worth the outrageous prices. Went 100 feet to get the car and the valet didn't open the doors for the ladies. Gave him a tip but didn't deserve one. One night stay in their hotel room can cost $999 on a weekend. Room doesn't look any different than a Holiday Inn. Sad.
Go for the view
Beautiful setting on Oak Creek. Good service. Ordered Hamburger, salad, rigatoni. The “medium” burger was pre-formed, very well done, and every bit of moisture cooked out of it. Good aioli saved it from going back. The vinaigrette dressing was minus everything but the oil, and rigatoni was very bland, served in was appeared to a milk sauce.
Fall Lunch outside
Made direct reservation for lunch. Beautiful setting as we were seated outside. Jorge was our server and was very friendly, professional and made us feel welcomed. Lunch was nice and tasty. Pricy but you are paying for location and setting.
Delicious and Luxurious
One of the most beautiful spots I have ever dined at. The location is calming, private, beautiful, and elegant all at the same time. The service was top-notch and professional. The food was delicious. This was a truly beautiful dining experience. Dining here will cost a pretty penny, so it's definitely for a special occasion. However, it's a beautiful option for a special night out.
Disappointed Birthday Dinner
I booked reservations about a month ago as I wanted to celebrate 4 friends birthday at a nice restaurant. When I made the booking the person on the phone never told me that 6 people was considered a large seating, really 6 people, and there was a limited menu. We arrived to the restaurant and valet used to be free and they had a no tipping policy. We were told that valet was $17 to park, another point the person on the phone never stated. We could have walked here as we were less than a mile away had we known it was going to cost us $17 to park. The night was brisk probably around 50 degrees and we knew that seating was outdoors and the person on the phone stated that we would have heaters. When we sat down, we noticed that all of the other tables had these very large heaters that were twice the size as ours and there were only 2 people at these tables. We were told they didn’t have any more heaters so it was extremely uncomfortable as only 3 out of the 6 people were getting the heat. They offer blankets but my shoulder and head were cold and they surely weren’t offering any hats. The waiter then presented to us the limited menu and we wanted to do the chef tasting dinner but was told that our party was too large and they couldn’t accommodate. This was the whole purpose of coming here to eat. We had no choice as we couldn’t leave as there would be no where else to eat on a Friday night without reservations. When the food came out, there was no silverware on the table as the bus boy forgot to replace what he took so we had to wait 2 minutes for them to provide cutlery. My plate was chicken breast and some potato croquettes which were cold and had to be remade by the chef. The food was very expensive and the only thing that I really enjoyed was the wine as the prices were reasonably priced. I couldnt wait to get out of there as my friends and I were cold and unhappy with the service. This used to by my favorite restaurant in Sedona but not anymore for dinner. It was a very disappointing birthday dinner. I had better service and food at Mariposa and the Vault.
Barely worth the wait
Management needs to hire more staff. There was a large wedding and apparently those guests got priority. It took an hour to get our bottle of wine and the cocktails took longer. The soup came out lukewarm. The waiter was very apologetic and comped several items but this didn’t make up for a meal that took over three hours. I ordered the scallops. 3. Although the food was tasty and nicely presented the wait time was ridiculous. Also, they charge 17. to park your car. At this price point I expect better.
Service not very good.
We were here for dinner and breakfast. Dinner- service was not good. Plain and simple. There were plenty of servers and it wasn't that full but they were just not experienced or organized. It took a long time to take our order. We had to go find someone. Then the appetizer arrived before our wine. We had to chase them again for the wine. And then for water. The waitress tried but she was so harried that it stressed us out. The food was good. No complaints there. For breakfast, again bad, slow service. And the coffee was $10!!!
Don’t waste your money!
We stayed at the hotel and went for drinks one evening and dinner on our anniversary. The location is really beautiful and on our anniversary they provided a complimentary glass of champagne - which was appreciated. The food was only okay - we had the filet and halibut. The service is absolutely the worst - both times. Slow and non responsive. Didn’t take away dirty dishes glasses, never once ask us about the meal and it was impossible to get our bill. Really disappointing end to a vacation.
Romantic dinner
We enjoyed our dinner. The food was delicious and ambiance definitely made it even better. Our favorite was the bone marrow appetizer. So rich and delicious
