Crow's Nest Restaurant Santa Cruz Reviews from The Last Year
Beautiful view, acceptable food (but nothing special.
..) the only BIG PROBLEM was that they charged me a higher amount on my credit card! Stay away from this place!
Local here, so I really should no better.
Haven't been for awhile because it hasn't been good. Decided to get a Happy Hour beer and snack on the deck with my wife. Found prices to be raised 25% to 33%, portions reduced, and the food quality as poor or poorer than I remembered. To add to the insult, they added a "operational service fee" (what the hell is that) to the bill they already padded. Completely awful experience, other than the sweet server. This place should be left to the "over the hill" gang.
We visited on a Monday night and we were greeted right away.
Our server was very good and helpful. We love the atmosphere and the view was amazing. The food was ok. We had a pizza that was a special but was not very good. It was more of a store bought crust with thick cut tomatoes. I had the pear salad with chicken. The salad had way too many pears and the pears were not fresh. The clam chowder was too thick. I like mine a bit soupy. The desserts were very good. The crème brûlée and the tarramisu were delicious. We will try this place again and hope to get better options.

I recently visited Crow's Nest for the first time with a group of eight and, unfortunately, I don't plan to return. The service left much to be desired; it felt as though our plates were being cleared too eagerly, contributing to an overall rushed experience. We found ourselves finishing in less than an hour, which was unexpectedly quick and shared by others in my group as well. Regarding the food, I found it to be excessively priced. The fish tacos I ordered were underwhelming, essentially amounting to a fish fillet halved between two tacos, accompanied by a mere scoop of rice, all priced at $32. This was particularly disappointing when considering that online shows them at $19. At such a steep price point, the value simply wasn't there for me.
Great food.
Amazing service. We did a late lunch on vacation during the work week, got a prime seat on the enclosed outdoor seating, watched boats and the dredger. Only downfall is it was actually hot in Santa Cruz today and the sun was beating down with no umbrella, other than that, we had an amazing experience and filled up on delicious food. I've been coming to Crow's Nest since I was little with my grandparents. Now taking my kids coming with their grandparents. Food and service have always been spectacular. We enjoyed the fish and chips, kids cheese pizza, kids chicken tenders, crab and artichoke dip, and chilled shrimp stuffed artichoke. Dessert of crème brûlée, chocolate cake and vanilla bean ice cream!
Local fav was just ok and too expensive for lunch.
Lunch meal at a local well known spot on the beach. Sat outdoors with heat lamps. Lots of fish. Had sand dabs from Alaska. Not many local items which was disappointing. Kept asking for protein origin points, only one local. Had to pay for parking outside in a city lot by a boat launch. Expensive lunch was way too much food! Should’ve been $10 cheaper and smaller portions! Said to get very busy due to local rep.

Tried their "famous clam chowder" and tasted like any canned soup. Calamari ok, the crab cakes were mostly filler. Setting is nice but food only fair, which is sad because the setting is great and has so much potential. Service ok.
This review is about the upstairs bar and grill When there
This review is about the upstairs bar and grill When there are 52 Sundays in a year and you go to the same place for about 45 of them for better then 10 years I think you can consider yourself a regular. That is my husband Josh at The Breakers Bar. Over the years he has had attentive, professional, friendly and basically amazing service, until about a month ago. What may have started as a misunderstanding has become a huge "thing". On this particular Sunday the regular bartenders were off and a downstairs server was assigned to Josh's table. She tried to take his drink order and he said something to effect of "everybody knows me, I've been coming here for 20 years, just tell 'em Josh's margarita". I don't know if she asked for more detail, what I do know is what I saw and heard when I walked through the bar to join Josh. The server conveyed to the bartenders the request, it wasn't her words that were offensive it was her tone, demeanor and her facial expressions. I witnessed it all. I told Josh that the server didn't much care for him and his reaction was swift and direct. When the server returned and asked what she could get him he said "a different server" there was some discussion but we did get another server. That should have been the end of it - it was not. Josh shared this story with one of his regular servers the next week - perhaps that was unwise, but what followed is OUT OF BOUNDS. The staff had a meeting and discussed the incident. The server in question slandered Josh claiming that he insulted her face and the characterization that was thrown around about Josh is that the servers need to feel "safe" and they did not. It was determined at this meeting that someone needed to talk with Josh about his behavior and comment so that the servers can feel safe. I was present at the original exchange with the server, Josh NEVER said "I don't like your face", when the server was told what I witnessed she lied saying she was talking about a different table (as if that makes the tone and negative facial expressions better) and then she embellishes the story more at a meeting instead of just owning her actions, she was caught red handed. Asserting that Josh was or is threatening and needs correcting is mind blowing. He deserves a huge apology.
I had a celebration meal for me and my friends/family here.
Food was subpar and most of my party's meals were undercooked and cold. This place used to be better
We stopped in here today for lunch.
He had the Salmon burger and I had the Prime Rib sandwich. Both were good! I asked for and got it rare, which is rare, no pun intended. All the staff was courteous. I like the fact they have cloth tablecloths and cloth napkins. Feels kinda classy. They have a salad bar, which I didn't try but looks righteous. They have a pay parking lot; $1.75/ hour. Finding the kiosk to pay was tricky. It's a bright yellow box next to the gift shop. Lunch is kinda spendy, but we enjoyed it.
Unfortunately, this place has gone from a high class feel
Unfortunately, this place has gone from a high class feel to a tourist trap. The tables seem banquet style (unstable/tippy and small) and the servers have that lackadaisical feel of many SC cafes. They still have the amazing salad bar, but the other items we ordered were only ok. Really sad to see this place slipping after all these years.
We came for an elegant and tasty dinner, got that and some great memories of our time together.
My husband and I had been here a few times before and enjoyed ourselves. This time was made much more memorable by our server, Justine Iadiano. She was professional, friendly, made us feel like we were number one the busy, crowded restaurant. From what we observed, our server treated everyone with warm, professional service. Thank you to the Chef for the wonderful food and Justine for the terrific service. We will be back. M & L from Monterey
Great food with an even greater view
The service was impeccable. You must try the ravioli and the sole was perfect. Throw in the view and the crow’s nest is the place
Long time favorite beachfront restaurant.
Good food as always. Ate upstairs and enjoyed the oceanfront view. Great restaurant enjoyed by out of town visitors and local alike. Been coming here for many years. Never disappoints.
Still enjoyed it but prices are up
We came at Happy Hour…about 4-6 pm. Had drinks and several appetizers. Calamari, crab cakes, clam chowder (and ordered some sourdough bread to go with it). Server was pretty goid. Good not bad although their prices have increased and portions may be smaller. At full price it would have been overpriced. We did enjoy ourselves though we didn’t stay long enough for the music this time.
Great views
Great views. The fish tacos were good, but not great. You have to pay to park here. We ate at the casual upstairs bar.
Noisy but food is good.
Food was great. Prices ok. Expect a 5% surcharge for added profit inside is very noisy. Not a romantic place. Good views of the ocean
Wonderful time
Great both times but expensive!!! We went to Crow’s Nest a few months ago & the food, service & ambiance were wonderful!! We went back September 2023 again for a birthday celebration. The hostess was wonderful & I inquired(via phone prior to arriving )if they could refrigerate a small cake for me during dinner, which they did & they brought it out at the end of dinner with the candles I provided & knife & plates they provided. The server Corbin was great! He was both professional & friendly. Prior to dinner, my husband & I sat outside & had 1 glass of wine & 1 Guinness & shared calamari for approximately $50! The dinner was expensive also but considering it was a celebration & the food, service & company were great, it was worth it. I’d recommend the Crow’s nest. We didn’t deal with parking since we took Uber to arrive.
Love this place!
I've been here twice and both times loved watching the boats come in to the marina. Call for a reservation, when you get there ask for a seat at the window, and my advice is to go before sunset so you can watch the sun go down and watch the ships come in to the marina. Oh, and the food is great!

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
