Wonderful meal
Another wonderful spot by Daniel Boulid. Can’t go wrong with his establishments. The food was wonderful. The drinks were wonderful.

Daniel is a great restaurant in New York City. The food and drinks are tasty. Everything was delicious. Great team who are professionals.
Be the first to ReplyI expected more, but not bad
I’ll start off by saying that while I don’t consider myself some frasieresque elitist who eats at places like this regularly I do have more than plentiful experience eating at a relatively wide variety of highly acclaimed restaurants both in and out of the US (although NYC is a focus point) which I believe would develop in anyone a perspective through which a restaurant like this can be judged. All this isn’t to say it’s a bad place to have dinner; the service was just the right level of attentive and the dining room was elegant while not drawing attention away from the other people at your table. My main issue is with the food itself… I had come here, in part, to impress my companion, but mostly to satisfy my desire to eat here considering the reputation. When you mention eating at Restaurant Daniel in an off-handed manner I’ve found many people both immediately recognize the place and express incredulity at such a prodigal exercise. Needless to say, I had waited for a good time to go for some time. Needless to say, I went in with high expectations. It was in that vain I got the seven course tasting menu. I found the start to be interesting, essentially three mini dishes which felt like a three course meal being served to a fairy tale giant. This was again followed with an interesting foie gras spread which my companion expressed to my agreement had an almost chocolate quality. At this point I am more than satisfied with the meal thus far and somewhat excited to see what comes next presuming the same uniqueness and quality of the first two dishes. Needless to say, I was sorely mistaken. After this my memory is foggy, as some of the dishes seem to just blend together in my memory on account of their frankly bland experience. There was essentially some fish and seaweed with drops of sauce, white truffle drizzled in a white truffle soup with dots of black truffle, another fish thing, bison (which was tasty but was small and the only meat course), and a couple more dishes. This fog isn’t because I wasn’t paying attention, I could describe every course I’d had at Gabriel Kreuther more than a year ago in excruciating detail, but because so many of the courses were uninventive and frankly boring considering the price. Even dessert seemed a bit off, it had a white outer coating and a chocolaty inside that somehow was less bold than the chocolate undertones of the foie gras. The coffee was great though! None of this is to say I disliked the food, but it seems to me like fine dining at its worst. portions so small I got a lobster roll and grand central terminal for the ride back, flavors so subtle they seem almost afraid to make a serious impression, and this je ne sais quois, which felt almost pretentious at times (my companion and I were definitely sure some of the staff were putting on fake French accents) I’ve mostly focused on the negatives, but given the price I think that much is fair. I’d still like to make clear that I didn’t dislike my experience, but the opposite of love is apathy, right?
Be the first to ReplyGreat culinary experience!
We LOVED Daniel! Each dish was thoughtfully crafted and expertly executed, showcasing the chef's dedication to quality and innovation. Dining at Daniel was truly a highlight of our culinary trip!
Be the first to ReplyUnsurpassed dining experience
Daniel keeps getting better. It has been a while since I came and this time I felt that they are at their peak. We had a short timeline of only 1.5 hours but managed to fit in a perfect 4-course meal. Each dish was beautifully served and delicious as well as unique. I kept repeating, " I am so happy". I eat out quite a bit and this meal is my favorite for 2024 yet!

The ambience was just perfect.. The food and it's quality was simply amazing.. The staff is very nice all in all very good experience it was!!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed
I was there in September. The service was very good but I was very disappointed in my food. The pork was very dry. I have dined at very fine Michelin star restaurants elsewhere and Daniel was not on par with those sadly.
Be the first to ReplyExtraordinary
One of the best culinary experiences we’ve had in a long time. The food was extraordinary and the service was top notch. We savored every course. And they did a lovely job celebrating my mom’s 85th birthday (we indicated on ressy and didn’t remind them) and made her feel so special. It was a beautiful experience all around and I highly recommend. Look forward to going back.
Be the first to ReplyMagical Evening
A one-of-a-kind evening at Restaurant Daniel for our final night in NYC. Excellent service from the bar staff and restaurant servers. Thank you for adjusting the tasting menu to our dietary requirements. Very special evening. And when they say 9 courses, expect a lot more than 9!
Be the first to ReplyBest server!
He was so sweet and very patient we had 3 young kids with us! Amazing customer service! Best server!
Be the first to ReplyFor their sake, I’m glad I wasn’t the Michelin inspector!
The welcome was very friendly and as I waited for my guests I ordered a glass of champagne and mentioned to the lady serving me that we would like to have a drink in the lounge before dinner. She said that was fine and as my guests arrived she took an order for drinks. When she walked off we were approached by another waitress who asked us to go to our table. I explained that we had just ordered an aperitif and would proceed to our table when we were finished. She then very sternly stated that we had to go to the table as our booking was for 5pm and if we wanted to have a drink we should have arrived before 5. I protested but she insisted the we had to stand up and go into the dining room. Rather than have the situation descend into an unseemly row we did as we were told and then went in to our table. The first waitress then followed us in with our three glasses of champagne and was. surprised that we had left the lounge. I explained what had happened and she expressed surprise at this and reaffirmed that we could have had our drink in the lounge first. At this stage we weren’t going to leave the table again and go back out. We were then waiting 15 minutes before anyone gave us a menu - 15 minutes that could have been spent in the lounge enjoying our aperitif. The dinner service was very good but certainly rushed. We were constantly having to apologise to our waiter as he was not really giving us enough time to choose, constantly interrupting the conversation. The food was good but not superb as you would expect. Perhaps it was the rushed nature of the service meant we couldn’t really relax. We went for the wine pairing ( the more expensive one) and when we got our first course the first wine had not arrived. I had to ask someone to organise this wine and eventually it arrived when we were nearly finished the first course. I had the squash veloute and it was Luke warm- almost cold. The next two courses and the desert were all very good but certainly not 2 star. It all felt too rushed anyway. There were some nice touches like the canele to take home and the other little treat with our coffee. However two of us ordered cappuccino’s and they were dreadful. More like milky flat whites with little coffee and loads of milk. Again Luke warm. During the entire meal we were never once asked were we enjoying it. We never say any management type person or maitre d. If we were I would have raised these concerns privately with him/her before posting here. So all in all a mediocre experience and I fear that if I had been a diner from the Michelin guide, that would not have turned out well. To top things off the fire alarm went off as we had just paid our bill. There was a siren and lights flashing. The restaurant was full. While, of course this can happen, there was no attempt to engage with the diners to either reassure them or evacuate them. We left - we were going anyway - we asked the staff about the alarm which had been going on now for a few minutes. They had nothing to say. As we left, two fire trucks were arriving and the firefighters were entering the restaurant with their oxygen masks and hatchets. I’d love to know what unfolded but we didn’t hang around. A lovely setting and very good food but Daniel Boulud needs to keep an eye on the detail or they will soon start slipping in the rankings.
Be the first to ReplyStill the best
Its been a while since our last visit due to pandemic and some health issues, but this restaurant continues to shine when there is so much disappointment in the dining out experience. The sense of arrival is always professional and friendly, not intimidating, opening up to a magnificent dining area. We were not satisfied with our original table and were quickly moved to a great table, no questions asked. Service was prompt, as always, and you sometimes lost who was your actual server due to the attentiveness of staff. Foo was spectacular. I had scallops, sole, lamb, and apple pie. Sounds pretty straight forward, but it was anything but that. Each presentation outdid the next in design and taste, aided by once again by impeccable service. I admonished my wife for taking pictures of each item, but couldn't blame her. If there is a more delightful dining experience, I don't know where to find it. Drinks were equally good.and they pour a good country club amount. We love this restaurant and would highly recommend it to everyone. It is expensive, but you most certainly get what you pay for.

Truly wonderful experience visiting this place. We loved everything from the food to the ambiance to the service. Thank you for a unforgettable night.

The staff and services are excellent. The bar and restaurant are amazing, great environment. The food is good but not impressive.
Be the first to ReplyOpen again, still outstanding
I have been a frequent client of Danielle for decades and just had dinner this weekend. They did not disappoint. It is outstanding, the decor, food, service, treatment of clients.
Be the first to ReplySo Much Food
Daniel is a perfect place to go if you have a big appetite, a luxuriously long evening, and much to talk about. Go on an empty stomach! The prix fixe is 4 courses, not including a small starter dish, elaborate bread, chocolates with dessert, fresh baked lemon madeleines, and a pocket-sized cake to take home. Everything was rich in flavor and portioned just right, and the meal is paced so that each course stands on it's own while also opening your palette (and stomach) to more. It's expensive, but for 2 Michelin stars, it's in the same price range as other restaurants with only 1 star and gives more bang for your buck. Wear something loose around the stomach and go hungry!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic dinner
There is a lot of hype about Daniel but it fully lived up to the reputation. Took my twin adult daughters with their spouse for their birthday. Food and service were phenomenal. Sommelier David, although extremely busy, took the time to discuss wine with us numerous times during the evening. Fois Gras was as good as it gets. Obviously not cheap, but you know that going in. For a special occasion or to treat yourself, you cannot beat it.
Be the first to ReplyDidn’t do it for us.
Where as the food was very good the two of us were put on a table of 2 along the far corridor at the top of the restaurant having staff walking up and down past us as well as tables on the far wall facing towards us. It spoilt the intimacy. These small tables, 4 in total I think were probably added to generate extra revenue. Sorry
Be the first to ReplyExquisite!
Went to daniel to celebrate a birthday and to try a michelin star restaurant in the city of new york. There is no questions on the service in any michelin star restaurants but the creativity and taste make a difference.
We tried the tasting menu, my favorite dishes were the flute, the bison and the bread with butter was to die for. The foie gras and venison were ok, i had better in other restaurants. Daniel restaurant is a beautiful experience and a foodie destination
Heaven --- best restaurant in NY!
Utterly divine. One of the best meals of our lives.
A birthday celebration, we pre-booked a centre table, favourite wine and desert. The administrative staff were helpful and patient. The table we were sat in was best. All the staff had been prepped and knew about the wine according to which dishes were recommended.
Seriole tartare with palm and yuzu was a light and refreshing sort-of an amuse-bouche. Flageolet, with a Maine lobster was superb, an idealisation of a lobster dish.
Ris de veau included heavenly veal sweetbreads with red kuri squash purée --- exquisite. Sole and foie gras were heavenly too.
The roast lamb was to die for, best I've ever had.
For desert, an especially-made Grand Marnier souffle was prepared with birthday candles and a greetings. Remarkable.
Best restaurant in New York!
Incredible Meal and Service
I had booked Daniel as a special celebratory meal after getting engaged to my fiancée. From start to finish the meal was very special and we would definitely return.
We tried the 7 course chefs tasting menu with wine pairings - all the food and wine was exquisite and lived up to what we expected for a 2 Michelin star meal by a chef at the top of his game. The food and wine complimented each other perfectly and nicely led on from course to course. Each course was interesting in a good way and beautifully presented.
The service was faultless and each course was described to us well. The interior of the restaurant was beautiful and as we were just engaged we had a lovely private booth along with champagne and a commemorative menu to take home.
Overall the whole experience made the occasion very special and one we will never forget.
"Surprisingly disappointed"
My fiancé and I recently visited Daniel and were very disappointed in the overall quality of the food. We are huge foodies and have eaten at many Michelins 3 and 2 starred restaurants throughout the country and this is the first time we've ever felt inclined to post a negative review. Service, cocktails and wine were excellent, but our dinner was not what we expected considering the impeccable reputation that the restaurant upholds. The two courses that disappointed us the most were the dover sole that was overcooked, bland and rubbery and the pheasant. We expected the pheasant to have a fresh poultry taste and texture but was presented instead in the form of a salty meatless preserved sausage masked by black truffles. It is a beautiful venue with an elegant ambience but unfortunately the food quality does not compare to other Michelin starred restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth it
We wouldnt go back. The best was dessert and coctails. The food was good but not what you pay for. Good service and nice location.
With so many options in NYC this wouldnt be my choice.
Foie gras was very good, the consomme lack flavour,
Exceptional.
I’m my rating system- stars are relative to the price. It is easier for a cheaper restaurant to get 5 stars than a more expensive one.
This is one of the most expensive places I have eaten and it gets a well deserved 5 stars. I had the tasting menu and wine pairing and it really was exceptional. Only slight downside were
1). Service was a bit chaotic at the start but they more than made up for it at the end. I quite appreciated the wine top up and the extra chocolates to take home. A small gesture but it made a difference.
2). I’m not a fussy eater and with a tasting menu there are always highs and less than highs. My high was the venison. My not so high was the seaweed salad.
So overall it was a 5. An exceptional meal that was worth every penny. And the take home menu was a nice idea. Thanks.
I will be back if I can get in again. It’s been a while since my last visit only because it’s so hard to get in!!
Great expectations
We've talking about doing the big New York splurge for years and six of us finally did it last night. We all did the seven course with wine pairing and a pre-dinner cocktail. The room is beautiful, the service excellent and the food and wine very good with a few courses reaching wow! But we pretty much agreed that there were more this is good and not enough this is one of the greatest things I've ever eaten. Yes, we probably suffered from too great expectations but when six people drop over$3,500 with tip one might just expect truly great. Not quite in my experience but a good time was had by all.
