This is one of the nicest Ethiopian restaurants I've dined
This is one of the nicest Ethiopian restaurants I've dined at. The place feels like you are in someone's former home.

It was our first time trying Ethiopian cuisine and we're so glad that we did. We made a reservation while in DC one evening for dinner. We ended up reaching a little earlier than our reserved time and the hostess asked us a wait while getting our table ready. They have indoor, outdoor and upstairs seating. It's a very cozy restaurant. We were seated at a table by the window . Our server was wonderful and helped us with recommendations. We got the sambusa to start with. The lamb ribs and chicken doro wot for the mains. We got the chocolate temptation for dessert. Everything was delicious. Traditionally, you use your hands to eat and we loved eating it that way. Would highly recommend stopping here to get a bit but be sure to make a reservation.

upscale ethopian restaurant in the heart of georgetown-the food was delicious and the portions were generous. the veggie sampler was a must order, but I would skip the chicken tibs. all of the lentils were steeped in spices and everything was really flavorful. it definitely gets loud, but good experience overall.

I just wanted to shout out to DAS Ethiopian for a great night tonight! I'd also like to apologize for my brother who hasn't been out of Ohio since 1984. We had a great time, the food was fantastic as always, and it is a gift to let people experience your food. THANK YOU!

This is a beautiful high end little restaurant in Georgetown... old building, white tablecloth, and guess what kids, you get to eat with your hands! We had a reservation, so was seated right away. Full bar menu and not vegetarian (which is totally different from the Ethiopian restaurants we have at home). So we ordered the Das Combination Vegetarian Entree Sampler as our base, and added the House Salad, which was a nice combination of beets, potatoes & green beans, as well as the Beef Alicha and Lamb Tibs. Everything on the plate was delicious. I was starting to get worried that I was going to fill up on the injera, when our server reappeared with forks! (Only so we could enjoy the rest of the food!). Definitely a five star meal and experience.
Be the first to Replyone of the best Ethiopian food I've had in the dmv area ! i
one of the best Ethiopian food I've had in the dmv area ! i really liked the chicken doro kay wat and the vegetarian sample platter! it is definitely smaller portions than what I was used to in other Ethiopian places but it was still very good. we walked in without a reservation at 5:30pm on a Thursday evening and we were able to find seating but as we started eating the restaurant became quite packed and some people had to queue up outside the restaurant so highly recommend making a reservation!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, would definitely recommend.
Super tasty. Welcoming environment and nice servers. Manager came by as well to check on each table and help servers. Limited drink menu if that matters. Definitely try the platter and the Sambusa appetizer.

Suggestions from the staff were carefully considered after chatting with us. The food and service were excellent.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and service and experience ! White table
Excellent food and service and experience ! White table cloth restaurant, no cutlery, incredible food! Pricing is generous to the customer - seems below market average given high food quality, current operational conditions and location in Georgetown ... said different: DAS IS A SPECIAL PLACE I ordered the meat platter and vegetarian platter for two people - my friend and I both run a lot and practice intermittent fasting during the day. These two platters were perfect for both of us to devour. Portions, diversity of dishes and pairing with appetizers and drinks made our experience 5 stars Customer service on point !! Lovely experience and will return
Be the first to ReplyIt is a unique type of cuisine from Africa.
Unlike most of the fine dining restaurants in the US, Ethiopian restaurant does not provide silver wares. And the food are mostly shared amount the table. We ordered the beef and chicken sampler, shrimp, and lamb. All very good! I love the food texture, flavor, and its unique serving style. The restaurant has a great street view when you seats by the window. The service is great!
Be the first to ReplyI would NOT recommend.
Meat portions are very small and just taste okay. I told the waitstaff very clearly I was gluten free and to not serve me anything with gluten. They gave me a bunch of bread. Right before I ate it, I double checked if it was gluten free. They said no! I was like - are you serious? I just told you I'm allergic. Then they brought out a main dish that was covered in bread, and got mad at me when I said I couldn't eat that. They tried to tell me I didn't tell them clearly. They didn't knock anything off my bill, and charged me $4 extra for the gluten free bread (which was disgusting btw)
Be the first to ReplyHas the veggie sampler and special chicken tibs.
Both of them were great and very flavorful.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely delicious.
Having moving from Silver Spring where there is lots of Ethiopian food I was delighted when friends took us to Das. First off the place was packed! Clearly not a hidden gem but very much a known one. We got the Tomatoes and Mushrooms as apps. Do yourself a favor and order both sooo good. The tomatoes tasted super fresh and flavorful and the mushrooms had an excellent spicy. For dinner we did the lamb and Steak Tartare and both were great, my favorite was the lamb. Cannot wait to go back and try other dishes!
Be the first to ReplyThe meal was excellent.
.Service was outstanding..Very knowledgeable and helpful.. A location in Georgetown was great..Very clean and the meal was tasty with a neighborhood feel with a national flavor...A solid 4 star
Be the first to ReplyI unfortunately have to leave a negative review - BEWARE.
I went here for dinner with a friend and we gave the server two credit cards to split the bill 50-50. The server took the bill sleeve with the cards, but then came back a few minutes later to say she could not split the bill because one of the cards fell out. We helped her look for it, but did not find it at the time, so she said she'd look after they closed and they could turn the lights on. I paid in full and left a 20% tip with another card. Days later, when I tried to follow up, the owner blamed ME for losing the card and refused to reimburse me for the lost card fee that I had to pay. Completely unacceptable.
Be the first to ReplyThe outdoor patio at Das still feels Buzzy, but it's also
The outdoor patio at Das still feels Buzzy, but it's also the perfect way to spend a warm evening in DC. There are lots of Ethiopian options to choose from in DC as well as other major cities, but it isn't until trying several that you realize how delicious the food here truly is! Our favorite is always the misir wot, which has the deep spice of berbere and the heartiness of lentils. The servers here always had a smile on their face, and midweek in September, it was easy to score a Reservation on the patio!
Be the first to ReplyMy first time trying Ethiopian food and really enjoyed it!
My first time trying Ethiopian food and really enjoyed it! Das is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant and so while it is quite "fancy" with white tablecloths, expensive wine, limited seating, and a coat check, the beautiful contrast of digging into the food with your hands is quite fun and I love that it gives Ethiopian food a high-end platform and recognition. The service was excellent - our server recommended the best dishes after asking about our dietary preferences, and they were able to do a smaller vegetarian sampler plate for me separately. The injera was chewy, glutinous, and so satisfying for picking up the savory and spiced curries. My personal favorite was the yellow lentil dish - it was not too spicy but still very flavorful and kept you going back for more. Definitely recommend Das but make sure to make a reservation as it can become very crowded very quickly!

I came here recently with a big group of friends and it was truly a wonderful experience. The servers are attentive and kind- we had an Ethiopian person with our group, and they communicated openly and provided us with fantastic explanations and descriptions of each of the dishes. I've had Ethiopian food a few times in the area, but this is definitely the best I've had in the DMV. Would definitely recommend the Vegetarian and Chicken & Beef sampler to anyone new to Ethiopian food. For experienced foodies, the Kitfoh is fantastic!!
Be the first to ReplyLoved the ambiance, food and service.
The food was super flavorful. The decor was simple and our waitress very nice and informative. Would go back in a heartbeat.
Be the first to Replyalmost all of the vegetarian menu options are vegan.
The vegetarian entree sampler and the sambusas are great!
Be the first to ReplyLoved this spot! Haven't eaten much Ethiopian food before
Loved this spot! Haven't eaten much Ethiopian food before but it was amazing!!- the sambusas were phenomenal, not too oily, and the dipping sauce was probably the best thing I ate here 10/10- potato salad was really light and refreshing - the entree sampler was actually super filling, the yellow split lentils and chickpea dish were probably my favorites! Very well seasoned, Loved the variety 9/10 - My boyfriend said the coffee was great too- strong, but not bitter. - I love houses converted to restaurants, they're so cute! Overall, great place. The meal was a little too rushed for my liking, but aside from that I had a great time.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Ethiopian food and service.
Place is adorable and was busy!!! I ordered the vegetarian sampler (which is something I always get at Ethiopian places) and a glass of Sauv blanc. Both were delish!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food.
Friendly, attentive service. Classy ambiance. And it's a whole lot of fun to eat without silverware! Get out of your comfort zone and go!
Be the first to ReplyWow, just wow! This was my first time trying Ethiopian food
Wow, just wow! This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and I was blown away. I can see how they made it on Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list. Service was excellent, nice ambiance and the food was absolutely mind blowing! The right way to eat Ethiopian food is with your hands and you basically eat everything with the Ethiopian bread, injera. Be very careful, this bread may look light but it is extremely filling and expands in your stomach. We had the pleasure of dinning with some Ethiopian folks which taught me the right way to eat the food. First and foremost, wash your hands, then, tear a piece of the injera (be the sure the holes on the bread face up) and use it to pick up the food. Food is eaten family style. I honestly have no idea what I ate but it seemed we ordered basically everything on the menu. Every single thing was so damn good! For starters, the most memorable item was the mushrooms (ingudai tibs) with Kaisa (mild Ethiopian cheese). Omg, I can literally eat this all day, every day. For the main entree, we had everything from chicken, beef, fish, beef tartare, literally everything. For desserts, I was surprised to see so many Italian dishes. According to the owner, Ethiopian cuisine is highly influenced by Italians (not sure if I heard that correctly).... I, of course, had to order one of my favs, the tartufo which is a chocolate ball shell filled with three types of ice cream, pistachio, strawberry and vanilla. Uff! Phenomenal.I cannot get over how good the food was and cannot wait to be back. If you happen to know of any good Ethiopian food near miami, please let me know. I'm already craving more.Check out my Instagram for more on this foodie adventure @LaGordaDeMiami
Be the first to ReplyThe food is good, but the service leaves much to be desired.
I stopped by with my kids. We did not order drinks, and ordered lightly since it was lunch. The server was annoyed. When I am with my kids, I typically adjust the tip to make up for the lower overall amount, but this time I hesitated. There is no reason to treat a table badly because it is not running up the total by ordering lots of alcohol and plates. All guests should be treated with an equal amount of respect. Perhaps since showing up in the Bib Gourmand guide, the restaurant has forgotten its roots. I would rather go to a place that wants my business.
