Dear Jane's Marina del Rey Reviews from The Last Year
I love Dear Jane's and brother restaurant Dear John's.
I love that Dear Jane's is tucked on a quiet street in the marina. Love the outdoor seating right in the marina and also the indoor, cozy and vibrant but mellow space they have created. Service was fantastic and friendly. And of course the food was fantastic. The sand dabs and the wagu w peppercorn sauce. Can't go wrong with anything. Grab a cocktail at the little front bar if you can before dinner. The best place in the marina to grab dinner.
Had dinner there about a week ago.
Everything about the experience was perfect! My Manhattan was outstanding. As an appetizer, I selected the Oysters Rockefeller. Delicious. Following that, I had the grilled salmon which was done perfectly. I chose the green beans as a side. Who knew green beans could be so good? Dessert was a baked to order Blueberry cobbler topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, There were 4 of us and we shared some appetizers, sides and , of course, that amazing dessert. Everyone had a different main and all of us were happy. Kudos for great service. Bonus points for that gorgeous view of the boats. I felt I was almost living in a dream.
Beautiful restaurant by the water.
My favorite are the tin fishes they are wonderful! They have one of the best espresso martinis as well! This place is a must go whenever you are near LaX

I went because of Dine LA week although I was not limited to ordering from the fixed menu. Somehow this place "rated" and i did not heed my fellow Yelpers because if I did check I would have avoided this place. Here is the scoop. You will spend over $100 per person. Okay that's not alone remarkable. My meal of potato crusted Sea bass was wonderful and my gals shrimp whatever on the dine LA menu she enjoyed. I had the Mushrooms which i liked and my gal reported the brocccolini was a failure. She had a brownie to die for. Then she tells me the place is known for their bread THAT WAS NEVER OFFERED at an additional cost or any alternative. So spend $230 plus tip plus parking and you wont get the bread that any other restaurant would offer. So I raise the issue with out server and and I was told "oh well this is LA " Oh well, I rated Dear Jane's fail.

Kacey our waiter was amazing, always stopping by to see how we are doing and suggesting great pairings. The table was a supreme corner view. The bar has great happy hour specials in the bar area only. Valet parking was a breeze. This place is a hidden gem great for date night or family night. Sure to please anyone's palet. Surf and turf salads to die for. Great Smokey Jane Ol Fashions. Great wines. I just may book another dinner right now for next month!

This is our second time here and the service was not as good as the first time we came. tonight on a Friday night and our waitress was not attentive at all. It's unfortunate It's July 12 Friday night. We had a reservation for 730 and our waitress, I forgot her name, but she was not attentive at all. I forget her name but it was very unique, it started with a U. She did not introduce herself, i had to ask what her name was when she came to our table. She did not ask if we had any questions in the menu. When she came back with our drinks she just dropped them off at our table and proceeded to leave. I had to tell her we wanted to order. She did not ask if we had any questions about anything not knowing if it was our first time there or not. she never checked on us when we did receive our food at anything throughout our entire meal. then we had to flag her down further the check. The food was bland so the second time was not as good as the first. sorry because our first experience was excellent. this is the only reason i am giving it a 4 star. The beet salad and the sand dabs were good but the shrimp scampi was bland. The ambiance was comfortable yet busy but not too loud to where you cannot have a conversation. They have valet parking only. The experience last night was all bad
I was at Dear Jane's happy hour last week.
Good: The bar - dark, brick walled, nude painting hanging and velvet chairs Waitress - super friendly Not So good Food - B- Stake was so tough. One of the worst in my recent memory Waitress - not great knowledge of the wine offered I wish we could pull up in our dingy from our boat.

Sadly I expected something else!! This restaurant needs an update, for sure! Carpet.. really who uses carpet in a restaurant anymore? We did receive a lovely greeting when we arrived and were escorted to a very nice table overlooking the marina. Once we were seated we waited for quite awhile for anyone to come to our table. Finally when we were offered a choice of water and drink we asked for Stone Crabs as a starter at 7 pm and were told that they had no more.. so disappointing! They served our wine in these little cheap glasses that were almost uncomfortable to drink from. We ordered the Louie Salad that was served table side.. I think that was the best part of the night.. it was delicious. We should have stopped there! From there it was tuna, sea bass and broccolini and quite frankly with a bit of exaggeration it all tasted the same and looked the same... it all was swimming in this red sauce... Don't think we're ever going back..
My first time visiting Dear Jane's.
.. one word... WONDERFUL! I went out with my girlfriend for happy hour and received the absolute best service. Our waitress, Mia, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I mean this girl really knew her stuff! She recommended the Wyman's Breeze and we couldn't stop at just one. SO delish. We also had the burger-- amazing and oysters on half shell. Thank you Mia. Needless to say we will be back!
The food was not very good.
Fine dining. It was not my daughter and I had the sea bass. And it tastes like a flat piece of tilapia. There was no seasoning. I think i've had better fish in the frozen section At trader joe's. I brought my mom here for her birthday. They really don't acknowledge birthdays. The way most restaurants do, which was a shame for the money that we spent there for that Not peeling food. The whole restaurant looks like a pop-up that opened blessing. A few months ago and they haven't really got the décor down or the menus. And wherever they're getting their seafood from, he's a bad spot.. This is one place. I will definitely not go again. The sides that you order to accompany your food was in a small dish. That definitely was not SHAREable. The rice pilaf looked like rice a ronI. Also, the servers look like they would rather be somewhere else .. This place is definitely a hard PASS for me
Service is outstanding.
From the time you call, the valets the servers. The restaurant isn't big, which makes it really nice. View if the boats is nice. Food is delicious. People who say the don't lie fish have never been to Dear Jane's.

We live within walking distance to the restaurant so we had been to Chart House frequently and regularly until they were closed and turned into Dear Jane's. Chart House always gave us a pleasant experience with consistent good food, reasonable pricing and humble attitude. We didn't go to Dear Jane's for a couple of years because the cancellation fee policy was a turnoff (even restaurants in Beverly Hills don't do that), so we didn't really wanted to try a new restaurant with such a big ego. Finally they lifted the cancelation fee policy, so we made reservation for last night to celebrate Father's Day and birthday for my husband. Portions are tiny and prices are steep as expected. We 2 people ordered 3 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 sides, 1 desert and 3 drinks, spent $330 and still left the restaurant hungry. I wouldn't recommend guys eat there if you at least want to fill up your stomachs. The biggest disappointment was actually the missing recognition of our birthday celebration. We put down birthday when making reservation so the waiter did ask who was celebrating birthday when greeting us at first. Towards the end, no free desert of course, but when our desert came there was no candle. This is the first Father's Day and birthday after our 1st baby was born so I tried to make it special occasion for my husband. All the nice restaurants we have been to all recognize birthdays one way or another, either by lighting up a birthday candle or providing a free mini desert or even crew sing a birthday song. Dear Jane's is the only "nice" restaurant that does nothing for birthday celebrations. I would say the money we spent was not worth it for the experience. I really wish I could come back regularly because it's 10min walk from our place, but unfortunately I will try not to come back unless I'm forced to.

I've loved the happy hour here since it started, but these days it feels rushed, portions getting smaller, and table service almost non-existent. My scampi was bouncy like rubber. They snatched my husband's drink before he was done. Sigh. I rarely give reviews, but I want them to know. As always, the ambiance is fab. We love this place, but as a happy hour patron tonight, we felt like the red-haired step-child. The server did comp us a dessert, so there's that.
The best dining experience I've had in a long time.
Joel and Tricia made me feel so at home and genuinely made my night. Would highly recommend.
Tricia and Joel best serves at the bar.
Drinks, food, and ambience are the best! Highly recommended Dear Jane's bar

Went here for my sisters birthday and was beyond disappointed! We were excited to try it because looked like a fun place and she really wanted to be there for her 50th. We had the WORST service imaginable, we were seated right next to the kitchen and all they did was complain about people very loudly. My niece ordered a Wedge salad, which in the description didn't say there were onions on it, we got it and was Covered in onions (which she is allergic to) and so asked them to remake it, which they complained about, Most everything on the menu that we ordered had things on it that were not in the description at all on the menu and so didn't enjoy any of our food. They didn't even acknowledge my sisters birthday which we put down for the reservation. Just a terrible experience and really hated that they couldn't put real descriptions on their menu especially with food allergies. Will never go back.

Greeted by Hannah and Carlos created us amazingly at the door and made us feel so welcome, the ambiance and food was amazing. A definite place to be.

Robert was amazing! Very warm personality and knowledgeable about multiple wines and dishes. We enjoyed the yellowtail carpaccio, scampi, and the lobster pasta (unsure of actual dish name) as well as some wine and cocktails. Very delightful atmosphere and altogether was a very fun treat!
First time here.
I was looking forward to discovering a new seafood Restaurant apart from my "fave" Water Grill. Perhaps because they are still new to the scene, I'm sorry to say the place did not come up to my expectations. Since I dined the night before at Water grill, I wanted to compare apples to apples. The valet parking team were all very friendly & welcoming. The interior is very nicely laid out with great ambiance. We thought the bread was complimentary the way the waiter presented it. The Palisades Gelsons is my favorite go to for Rockenwagner bread. I am not sure of the Restaurant's quality of bread they are serving. Also, a $10 price tag for bread with a smidge of butter was hard to digest. Literally. Unfortunately, the food & service also need polishing; especially when the Entree arrives at your table and the server does not know who was being served what and has to ask. Overall, it was an interesting experience and I will try it again. However, I will give it time before I go back. I wish you guys all the best. Nabil A.
One reason (okay, two - the food also) to come here.
And that's the service - if you're lucky enough to be waited on by the incomparable MIA. She's a delight; smart as a whip; and knows her food and cocktails. A gem.
A perfect evening - a perfect dinner!
The service, food and ambiance at Dear Jane's is fantastic. Our server, Tim, was very helpful and attentive. We began splitting the table-side Shrimp Louie salad. And my dining partner ordered the Cioppino which she thoroughly enjoyed. And I ordered the Trout Almondine which was melt in your mouth fantastic. The sommelier helped is pick the perfect wines by the glass to accompany our entrees. It was a fantastic evening!
Sooooo great!
Had an amazing experience there with the girls! Oysters, crab cakes, sand dabs were so good. Finished off dinner with cocktails in the cute, dimly lit bar behind velvet curtains. Service was amazing too!

Hey Fluffy, thanks for all the questions :-) We do review every appointment or reservation and encourage customers to rate their seller after transacting to minimize issues like that.
