Del Mar Washington Reviews from The Last Year

We had a Graduation lunch and the Banquet personel was very accomodating. The food was amazing!
Worse service ever.
Private party. Of course tip was included on a $4k for 10 people. Don't worry about bringing utensils to serve the food you are serving. Can't we upsell you a special fish with a very fancy sauce. Your $300 fish is served with no sauce. The sauce took 45 mins to get to the table and not even a spoon to serve it. 1 hr wait for 6 martinis. Really. What a joke. Never again.
Way, way overpriced for what you get.
Food was so so and definitely not worth the price. Wine list was also extravagant with choices like a bottle of Pinot Noir for $3,050. Only go if on a corporate card or if you are a lobbyist.

Overpriced Spanish food for those who don't know authentic Spanish cuisine- major skip. Save your money and go elsewhere. Service was subpar as well.
Exceptional service and delicious food in a prime location
Exceptional service and delicious food in a prime location at the waterfront. It's very expensive so a place to come for special occasions rather than a regular dining option in your rotation. We loved all the items we ordered: wild calamari paella, Spanish tortilla, and charred broccolini.
3-stars for service due to multiple requests for a finger
3-stars for service due to multiple requests for a finger bowl of warm water. When the requested was answered, it was presented in an aluminum bowl, plated, with a drying cloth ... but the water was cold! I agree with the reviews, $100 per person, we ordered tapas servings, no entrees. No dessert. Drinks ordered. Everything tasted wonderful. Over priced. You're paying for the location.

We had a great lunch here! Situated on the Wharf's waterfront. The kitchen offers Spanish-influenced cuisine. The Paella was incredible! The atmosphere was perfect for viewing the second floor, and the service was exceptional. Tyler and Eric were the most ideal tag team and customer could hope for. We were satisfied with the recommendations, accommodations for our music request, and the lowering of the retractable windows. Thank you for setting such a good mood!

My mom is a big seafood lover and we were visiting DC for her birthday. This was all-star treatment from the moment we walked in. The host was lovely and warm. Our server was detailed and promptly. Not to mention the manager made a point to come wish her happy birthday. We had the black paella and it was divine! The churros were delicious and great cocktails. I cannot recommend this place enough!
Really nice place with great atmosphere.
Our drinks were good and food. Order the branzino and you will be pleased.
Avoid
Very overpriced for what you get. Pretentious and can't deliver on the food, which was mediocre at best. Only item I would recommend in the 5 tapas we ordered were the leeks which had a good combination of taste and texture. Stay away from the croquetas (absolutely awful, gooey and sickening). The Spanish tortilla was meh and kind of flavorless. Pan con Tomate lacked depth and was bland. The spreadable meat dish was good but was served with only 8 slices of bread cut so thin you couldn't spread anything on it. And we were charged for the extra bread we asked for. Finally sangria was absolutely terrible. No need to add hard alcohol to a good sangria. And it was bland and tasted watered down. While our waiter was friendly, there were long gaps between our orders and delivery of drinks (about 20 minutes). The only plus was that we ate outside and that was nice. There are many restaurants in DC with much better food and much better price/quality ratios. Avoid.
We wanted seafood so this is where we were told to go.
The location is great. The hostess was friendly with a pleasantness we appreciated. The restaurant smells of a mix of decades of good and spoilt seafood. The food is mediocre at best. The staff are professionally dressed, but have an unprofessional way about them. We ordered a few appetizer's - all overpriced and nothing remarkable. There is also a ridiculous charge for a sad piece of bread. I would not go back to this place nor would I recommend this restaurant. While the restaurant is decorated beautifully the food is not worth the time, price, or effort.
Tourist trap
We arrived with a lot of illusion for a good Spaniard meal. Super well impressed with the decoration, music and ambiance in general. Wide and varied menu with great options. However, the flavor and quality of the food was mediocre, especially when you have lived and travel often to Spain. We felt everything was heartless and commercial. Great look - poor flavor. Waiters are pushy and tactless. Wine list is not impressive.

My friend suggested us to try out this restaurant for our first visit to DC. The service was outstanding and all the dishes we tried were delicious! We finished everything!!!
Sunday Easter dinner plans for my friends and at Del Mar!
Sunday Easter dinner plans for my friends and at Del Mar! It was our first visit and it was a great one! How beautiful is it at The Wharf, right? This was the right choice for us! I had the Double Lamb Chop (10 oz.) with a side of the Bracad Potatoes. My meal did not disappoint! The lamb was cooked just right and the meal itself was very filling. Together, we shared the Brocolini and Seafood Paella (for 2) but the four of us had enough to go around! I do recommend their cocktails! The Alchemist Gin & Tonic is a winner! Their wine & champagne list is on point. Our server Michelle was truly remarkable! She was so kind, patient and willing to bring in others to assist in recommendations. I will request for her during my next visit but honestly everyone was so engaging and hospitable! Overall a very clean, spacious and beautiful ambiance! The music, environment and volume really did contribute to a great experience! Check out the photos attached. I will definitely be back.

Our night got off to a great start, they have an excellent selection of gin and tonics including a strawberry rhubarb one which was excellent. Overall the food was excellent. We started with the Octopus which was perfectly cooked and accompianed with a spiced black garlic suace that was superb. We also had the confit piquillo peppers side as an appetizer which we thouragly enjoyed and was a perfect light bite. After much debate we went with the seafood paella which was excellent with a ton of seafood, make sure you mix in the garlic alioli with the rice for an added kick of flavor. We finished off with the Basque Cheesecake which, if you like european style cheesecakes, is a perfect dessert. Finished off the night with a glass of Atxa Pacharan on the recommendation of our excellent server Jorge. Overall this was an excellent dinner and we will definitly come back

We stopped in Del Mar for a light shared plate lunch after a day wandering around museums and the Wharf. We did not have a reservation but the hostess was very nice and found us a table with not much of a wait. The fresh warm bread with garlicky shrimp was deliciously garlicky. I loved the citrus salad - so fresh and nice with a variety of lettuces and citrus wedges. Our lobster was grilled perfectly and steak fries piping hot, delicious with the lobster sauce and poached egg. Definitely a nice spot!
Location, location, location.
You are paying a premium on decent food in order to sit in a beautifully appointed location on the Wharf. Food: it's good but there are true tapas restaurants with more authentic flavors and presentation at better price points. Service: look, our server was nice. But we felt forgotten at times. No water refills, no second drink order until we were almost finished. And she never referred to the dishes by their menu names: patatas bravas were "fried potatoes" and pan con tomate was "tomato bread". Is it asking a lot to give me the full experience of a Spanish restaurant? Ambiance: it's a gorgeous location, with a 2nd floor patio with lots of space, beautiful views, and gorgeous tiling.
Very good experience.
Seemed like everyone there was on a date night. Pretty ambiance. Good menu. Very good service. The grilled calamari was my husband's favorite thing he ate in Washington DC. My grilled scallops and potatoes were delicious. My husband also tried the sardines, and he found them very good. Definitely a recommended dining experience.

We had such a lovely time here; I'm sorry I didn't post my review earlier. We made reservations on a Friday night just before a comedy show nearby. We were seated pretty quickly and overall we had good service. It's definitely busy on weekends to get that reservation! We started with the Jack and coke (with coke foam) for hubby who thought it was an interesting concept; the foam makes it different but in the end it is still jack and coke, just elevated with some spice and that thing that makes you go "hmmm". I loved my Hurricane -Nola -- it's a fruity drink lovers heaven. Not too alcohol tasting, light and refreshing. A must get is the patatas bravas! I know super basic but these were light and crisp with a delicious classic sauce. Very well done, nice to see a focus on quality with every item in the menu not just the mains. Pan con tomate was very clearly fresh fresh fresh -- a few quality ingredients made to shine. The Spanish tortilla, coming from someone who isn't a huge fan, was SO good! That cheese they use in there is something special and as it's such a basic, simple item the flavor just stands out in the best way. Our complementary squash soup was just delicious; velvety and comforting and all things yum. It was a lovely touch and much appreciated. Hubby said his shrimp was "awesome, no notes" and lamb chops were "a lot to eat but too good to NOT eat". We had a wonderful time here and I would happily come again.
Lovely Place
Ate here for a business dinner and found the waiter to be friendly, the food was excellent, the ambiance was nice, location right on the water. Excellent restaurant.
Must visit. Do not miss it.
A delight! The paella, the blue crab tapas, the desserts…. Ufffff the best. The waiter who served us had excellent service, very smiling and very friendly, Between the kindness of the captain, the waiter and the food, everything is delightful! A wonderful experience
Best meal
We decided on the spur of the moment to try this restaurant, a relative recommended, on the wharf after walking around seeing DC sights. Although we felt a little too casually dressed our waiter assured us we were fine, he said people come in, in shorts in the summer. It is pricey $$$$ but we were on vacation & treated ourselves. Loved the sangria, a carafe of course. In Other places it is often too sweet, this was perfect. Appetizer of Spanish bluefin tuna Carpaccio was sooo tender, we savored every bite. Then we enjoyed the seafood paella for 2. The atmosphere inside is very nice & it smelled delicious as well. Staff are very pleasant & checked on us but were not overbearing or rushing us. Best dinner out in a long time. We highly recommend
Bright Mediterranean flavors
A celebration of Spanish seafood cuisine reins here. Del Mar is located in the trendy waterfront neighborhood of the Wharf District. The flavors were wonderful. I had the branzino with tasty oven roasted vegetables to complement my seafood entree. Staff was caring and wanted to make your dining experience enjoyable.
Wow…this is expensive
The food is good, although the location and ambiance is great, however you will pay a pretty penny to eat here. I found it to be outrageously expensive and terrible value. In my opinion there are better restaurants at this price point and obviously cheaper options too. I could not recommend this place.
Aggressive Pushy Waiter
Nicely designed restaurant and good but very expensive food. My primary complaint was that we left feeling very uncomfortable after spending over $200 for three (including kid), because the waiter constantly and aggressively pushed alcohol and main courses, when we were happy to select a range of different tapas from the menu. I personally would not recommend it.
Delicious!
We had a disappointing 20th anniversary evening elsewhere on the Wharf until popping into Del Mar at the last minute - and a big thank you to them for saving the night! We had no reservation, but the gracious and welcoming Maitre D' ushered over to comfy seats at the bar. It's a pretty cool retro Rat-Pack vibe at the bar. Matt was our bartender and he took it upon himself to cheer us up. He offered to make us some custom cocktail creations, and they were like beautiful and delicious works of art. We also ordered one slice of their Chocolate Saffron Cake to share, which was delivered with a flourish and an extra pot of hot fudge. SO SO SO good! We'll be returning to Del Mar to do the full dinner experience soon, but in the meantime will have nothing but fond memories of how they helped ensure our 20th wedding anniversary wasn't our last!
Great experience
Amazing dinning experience. Great food, wine, and service. Every dish was spectacular. Truly something to experience. Highly recommend.

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.
