I'm from the south.
I know good bbq. This place passes as legit. That food was so damn good. The atmosphere made me feel like I was back home at a good ole home cooked bbq joint. Never would've thought I was in Harlem. Service was fine. Would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyOur waitress Dixie was awful .
We have been to this restaurant many times and always had great experiences. The service was fine and the food was delicious but she was awful. My mom asked for coffee and she said they don't have any. We have always had coffee there. She asked again... what do you mean.. do you have to make it or you just don't serve it? My mother was not backing down... and finally Dixie said I'll go get some. My mother asked for butter for her corn bread. Dixie's said "we don't have butter". My mom stopped the bus boy and asked him for butter and he bought her butter. She obviously was lazy and just doesn't like her job. If you are going to be a waitress you should enjoy dealing with people, and at the very least try and accommodate... especially when they had butter and coffee. I hope the manager is reading this.
Be the first to ReplyDinosaur Bar-B-Que has so many gluten-free options.
I love the vegetable platters. The donkey punch is always a hit. My family loves the fried green tomatoes mac & cheese and the cornbread. We are a family of four, and we love to get the options where there are more than one meat, and a few sides. When we have out of town guess they want real barbecue we bring them here.

Be the first to ReplyBeen looking for a good BBQ joint in NYC.
Decided to try this place and we were not disappointed. We had the sweetheart deal... it came with a full rack of ribs and four homemade sides. Everything was delicious... my wife didn't care for the greens as the dish had a bit too much vinegar. I didn't mind it and enjoyed it all. Will definitely come back! Also, we ate at the bar because we didn't have reservations. Won't make that mistake again.

I enjoyed the ribs even though I prefer a dry rub with the sauce on the side. Everything had a nice bit of heat. The corn bread was grainy and excellent. Very nice cole slaw. The "cubano" sandwich isn't a real cubano. My wife enjoyed it, but will order something else when we go back.

Oh wow, the meat is GOOOOOD! What's more The service is warm and Gooooood, and I don't know if it's every night but on Saturday Nights they have LIVE MUSIC! Soul, Blues & R&B that is also mmm mmmm gooooood! I'm not sure when the music returned but it looks like it's here to stay! Which means, Saturday nights, me and those Briskets sliders are seeing each other and I think it's getting serious! Especially since I can dance off that Mac and cheese side! Their yams are good to me too and they might even be good for me! See y'all there.

The BBQ is not out of this world good, but it definitely hits the spot. Ribs are a little skinny and brisket is a little dry, (compared to Hometown BBQ in brooklyn), but that's what the sauce bottles are for - and pretty affordable for how much food you get. Meats get 4-4.5 stars.Love the sides. Got potato salad and mac, and I love cornbread so this was a home run for me. Oh and the VIBES. The VIBES were ON POINT! They had a man singing RnB throwbacks, people on the keyboard and drums and I was having the time of my life. There were cute couples dancing to some of the more romantic songs and other groups getting jiggy to the more upbeat ones. I was having a good ole time. It was a welcome surprise and I must've come in on a lucky day because I'm sure they wouldn't be able to host these things every night. PS Make sure you reserve a spot and be prepared to wait even though you reserved. This place is B-U-S-Y bizz-ay! We waited like 30-45 min with reservation and the walk-in people waited much longer.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my staples in Harlem.
The food and service here are just amazing. I even had a birthday here I love it so much! The food has never ever missed and it's always so fun to stop by. I tell everyone about it!

Be the first to ReplyCan't believe I've never reviewed Dinosaur BBQ.
I've eaten at the Harlem, NYC, Newark, NJ, Rochester, NY, Syracuse, NY, Buffalo, NY & Troy, NY locations. My very 1st time was in Syracuse, NY. They are always consistently great. My favorite type of rib is where you can taste the smoke without the sauce and Dinosaur pulls that off perfectly. They have some of the best BBQ that I have had in the US & I have had BBQ in TX, KC, NY, NC, SC, GA & FL. Also love their BBQ sauces. We do find them in FL once in a while. My only disappointment is they took the hoisin wings off the menu. I wish Dinosaur BBQ would open in FL.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a couple different items.
All of them were good. I am particular at the brisket baked beans, and some biscuits. All good.Chicken tenders off the kids menu
Be the first to ReplyNever ate from here.
There are so many BBQ places. My all time favorite is Virgil's BBQ then Brother Jimmy's on 8th Avenue.
Be the first to ReplyA classic go too spot .

Stopped in tonight craving some smokey, seasoned, savory protein. I've heard great things about Dinosaur BBQ and was curious to see what all the hype was about. We were seated right away and given menus. My partner and I went with the pick-two combos: she ordered the chicken and brisket and I went with the ribs and pulled pork. We each got a side of fries and Mac and cheese. The food came out decently fast and it was delicious. The Mac and cheese was the most delectable I've had yet. They seasoned it SO well. The pulled pork ย and the ribs were tender and juicy. They were a huge hit in my opinion. The brisket was great as well. For drinks, we ordered the donkey punch and Hennessy ย ย Colada. Once we noticed that our food came first and that the tables around us that were seated after us got their drinks first, we checked in with our waitress and she went to follow up with the bar. Shortly after, we received our cocktails, and they were PO-tent. Make sure to sip from the straw otherwise you'll end up with a mouth full of liquor! I am tempted to take away two stars but because the food was delicious and the drinks were on point, I'll stick a with a generous 3.5 rounded to a 4 rating. The biggest issue for me was the service. When we did interact with our waitress (Dicci), she was super friendly and cheerful. But she didn't give us the time of day unless we flagged her down. She did however check in and deliver faster on the bigger tables surrounding us. Clearly we couldn't compete with a $500 bill, but damn, don't do us dirty like that to our faces! I reciprocated the pettiness by leaving her a pretty lame tip. TLDR: expect a good ass meal here with snail-paced service (unless you come with a group)
Be the first to ReplyMy wife's favorite place to dine.
We usually go to the Harlem location on the west side. Always get the fried green tomatoes and the Asian style smoked chicken wings. The atmosphere is family friendly and rustic. The food is flavorful and always visually appealing. Only downside is lack of parking, otherwise it is a great place to dine in for a moderate check and a fabulous meal.

Be the first to ReplySad to say, but Dinosaur bbq has taken a big step down in
Sad to say, but Dinosaur bbq has taken a big step down in service, food and overall dining experience. ย My husband and I have been here so many times and came today for a late lunch. ย Although the wait staff did their best, our brisket was dry, fries were greasy and my cocktail came after our meal was served. ย The place was relatively empty, but service was still slow.
Be the first to ReplyI'm often stuck in West Harlem on weekends.
And frankly options near the river are pretty limited. Dino has become an oasis. The BBQ itself is not the best in the city thanks to a real revival of the genre but the portion size is ample and the quality is strong and consistent. The prices too are far superior to Dino's southernly competitors. Real marks, for me though, are the bar and the hospitality. Great staff and an excellent selection of local beers. Come, hang, eat, imbibe.
Be the first to ReplyLet me start out by saying that I don't think I've ever had
Let me start out by saying that I don't think I've ever had such mixed feelings about anything since...Uggs. I hesitated between the ridicules of "Mickey-Mouse-Feet" criticisms and the never-before-experienced warmth that the fluffy insoles offered. To begin with, it's rare that I frequent the same restaurant in little more than 48 hours. Considering that I live in NJ and the restaurant is in Harlem, the price (Pun intended. I did drive there, like a true surbanite, so the cost of bridge tolls included!) that I paid to get these BBQs were indeed high.Yet, my first trip to Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, Harlem, was a where-have-you've-been-all-my-life experience. It was serendipity and cuisine amour. The ribs were near flawless: cooked just perfectly, the meat was juicy with neither the gamey chew nor the overdone pot roast feel. The ribs literally made me lick the bones. The briskets were one of the best that I've ever had. While a bit on the dry side, I know that they are meant to be lean, so it was fine. But what made the briskets special were the two slices of jalapeno, which, I normally don't like at all. But I was surprised that such a small addition can make a whole slab of difference. The sides were good as well, all of them (we had coleslaw, Mac and Cheese, and the Whipped Sweet Potato) retained a homemade touch. Cornbread was a bit sweet but moist and chewy enough to make it "really good." Heck, even the sesame bun for our pulled-pork sandwich was heavenly. So, when my beau and I were given the rare opportunity to have lunch together on a weekday, it required a near-zeal enthusiasm for us to go with the same exact menu from Saturday night. Well, it felt wrong from the beginning. How do you order the same exact menu (yeah, we were that much impressed...) and get a different tab? (My boyfriend actually came up with a theory that there must be extra charge for weekdays--the photo of the two bills attached to this review will explain as to how this atrocity occurred) As soon as we opened what was supposed to be our bag of delight (for both times we did take out) we noticed that one of our sides was not there. The restaurant owes us a coleslaw. But the Dinosaur still had our love until we got to the briskets, or should I say, beef jerky in disguise. The ribs were just as dry. We actually had to double check that some parts of the meat were not the bone that I was only too fond to lick few days ago. After we finished a very disappointing meal, the detectives in us concluded that food and service at Dinosaur must be better on weekends when there are quicker turnarounds, and the meat doesn't have to sit there until they get as dry as what we had to endure today. Will I give Dinosaur another shot? Probably. But if my food next time isn't as half as good as what I had in my first experience I doubt that I would ever return. After all, I only stayed loyal to Uggs (which, in fact, I still do think makes your feet look like Micky's...) because of the consistently high in quality and ever so reliable soft insoles, and not the fad.
Be the first to ReplyOkay I'll keep it short because I just erased my note.
Bummer! I DID enjoy the sides. They were flavorful! I felt the portion size was small, being served on this type of plate . The customer service needs improvement, I didn't feel safe because none of the staff wore any masks or gloves. When I asked about this one of the staff spoke to me in a very condescending tone, (one of the male staff). Then the female waitress didn't really give off a genuine friendly vibe; she seemed to be putting on a facade. And more importantly I could not eat my chicken as it was undercooked and could have been better cleaned! As you can see in my picture, zoom in and see the slime! Gross!! It's safe to say, I won't be here again. NOPE!

I went with 4 other people and ordered what the waitress told us. And we were so full of food and happiness! It's not healthy but worth every calorie. Everything was perfect. Would definitely go back!

I really don't recommend this place because was a disastrous experience. Starting with parking ... there's none and you be fighting with the locals residents to get a spot. The meat took too long to come I and come cold ... not fun. The staff was not quiet helpful. ย The amount was ridiculously small the price was exorbitant for what we got I had to order an extra side of the brisket because the portions were small. Don't waste your money here.
