Always perfect food
We always order the shrimp tempura, pork dumplings, edamame, ginger salad, plus a couple drinks. It is excellent time after time. Service is quick and friendly. It’s fun to sit at the outdoor bar top which gives you a view of the inside also. Downtown.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food, Small Portions, Over Priced
Sat outside, nice area on the street. Top notch service. Everything on menu is à la carte. We had 1 shishito peppers, 1 dumpling, 2 brussels sprouts, 1 spinach and Mushroom salad with ginger dressing. 1 New York Strip Steak and 1 fried cheesecake, 3 rose wine. Excellent Food but small portions, especially the steak. 2 small skewers amounted to 4 bites!!! Not really a steak! More like an hors d'oeuvre $156.00
Be the first to ReplyGainesville Amazing and Creative Japanese Cuisine
Superb! On business in Gainesville and went to this restaurant 3 times. Consistently delicious from the creative sushi bar options to the cooked options of which are were so many good ones to choose from, was really hard to decide. If you go (and you really have to) I highly recommend the Miso Cod with shitake mushrooms, bean sprouts, seasoned rice ball, and miso buerre blanc. If nobody had been around I would have licked the plate. This was a surprise find in Gainesville - don't miss it if you're there and you like Japanese cuisine. But make a reservation, it gets busy, for good reason.

First let me say that TripAdvisor reviews helped me select a wonderful place for dinner while visiting Gainesville. The menu is vast so it took me a while to choose dishes. Everything looked really good so I ended up ordering way too much. Each dish was delicious but there was no way that I could finish them. Our server, Jo, was very helpful from start to finish. She kindly packed my dishes to go. The drinks were tasty and reasonably priced. I would definitely dine there again when in town.
Be the first to ReplyGreat sushi in a great Florida Gator town!
We ate here on Xmas eve on the recommendation of hotel staff. It was one of the very few restaurants that was open in downtown Gainesville. We sat at the sushi bar and the joint was packed but staff efficient and friendly. The sushi and appetizers were excellent. I highly recommend Dragonfly.
Be the first to ReplyDamn, this place rocks!
You cannot have a bad meal at this spot. Since moving to Gainesville, this is the ONLY restaurant we repeatedly visit. The place is just... well run. The food is... sushi, and all sushi (in general) is pretty good. The hot saki is always good, the wine selection, extended saki selection is very good and they have delicious appetizers, too. The servers give a damn, and the manager really cares. Kudos to the manager, Jewel. May she reign there for years to come. The restaurant has a strong team of servers, bar staff and hosts/hostesses who all come together to deliver a wonderful experience. We will go back again and again. Parking is a little tricky unless you use the nearby garage. Most visits start with circling the block looking for a free spot. 4 out of 5 times we end up in that garage a short walk away. Love this place.
Be the first to ReplyDragonfly only a memory of a good restaurant
It is a sad day in Gainesville that Dragonfly has declined to there current state. I've been supporting Dragonfly since 2000 when they opened in their small shop when Dave would pour drinks before become a manager. The downward trend has been going on for multiple years now, but not to the point of last evening. It is clear when you walk in the the standard across the board is low and they have no idea of what Dragonfly once was. It use to be one of the top restaurants in all of Gainesville, but now it isn't in the top 5 of sushi restaurants specifically. When a restaurant removes their signature item from the menu, red flags are waving. When I asked why, the waiter said "the chef said it was to much of a pain to make". Wow, the chef is to lazy to make food. All good things most end, and clearly ownership and management don't care any more and are living off who they use to be and not investing back into the restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyGreat sushi! Loved the wonton appetizer too!
Very cool place to have dinner, unique selections on the menu, friendly staff. Love the seating outside along the street, but inside looked like it would have been great too.

One of the best Sushi meals I can remember. My wife and I had an outstanding meal. We had the waitress recommend out dishes and we could not have been happier.

Our favorite restaurant in Gainesville when we visit our daughter. Creative menu and cocktails. Amazing combinations! Everything has been delicious. Go early, make a reservation if possible or be prepared to wait in line (moves fast)!
Be the first to ReplyMust visit!
Our waitress Lucy was excellent. The sweet potato tempura with spinach, avocado, & mushroom was crazy good- we left the spicy sauce off it & substituted eel. Same for the shrimp tempura. Can’t wait to go back!

Upbeat, modern sushi … fantastic food and staff. We loved it and will be back soon. We have some friends coming to Gainesville and have already told them how good it is.

Our fave in Gainesville since our very first trip to UF. Delicious food and great ambiance. Must have include the pork buns, short ribs and dumplings.

Stopped by for dinner on a Friday night and sat at the bar seating out on the patio. The sushi rolls and sake flight were delicious and the service was excellent as well.
Be the first to ReplySolid Choice for Sushi and Drinks
We had a nice eve at Dragonfly! The place has a great selection of creative sushi and other Asian cuisine, all of which are fresh and tasty! The bar also stands out with a great selection of house drinks and sake. The dining experience is an upbeat vibe and the service is attentive. Definitely recommend. Just be prepared to wait without a reservation!.

We have been a few times and always enjoy the food selection and innovative drinks. You should definitely get a reservation as they get busy.
Be the first to ReplyA great and unexpected treat!
What a find. On a Tuesday night, passing through Gainesville, on a road trip. There was a 20 minute wait and we were surprised. But now we understand why. Great energy, great location, great food!
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointed, first time in 10 years.
Gainesville has a really good variety of food restaurants, likely because of the diversity of people around the University.
Dragonfly has probably been our favorite restaurant in Gainesville for the past 10 years, until today.
I know the head chef left, as last time I ate here was his last day in the kitchen. We shook hands and enjoyed a great meal.
Today, there was actually a lot wrong with dining at Dragonfly.
One of our favorite starters is the sautéed edamame, with the wiggly fish flakes on top. First batch came out extremely salty. after sending it back, the second comes out mostly burned.
we order our favorites. There is the regular menu and then there is the hidden menu. ask for it, it has some off-menu good specials that were once on the menu but comes off. One of the favorites is the Eurotrance roll, from the off-menu list.
Clearly who made it had never done this before, very messy.
My Absolute fav is the Yellowtail Haku. Very, very tasty and on the regular menu. Alas, it never came. By the time I asked where it was, it had been forgotten. By now we're kinda done. Paid, left, had dessert elsewhere.
Our favorite red wine was out of stock, edamame salty then burned, fav roll order forgotten, eurotrance a mess. Overall a BIG decline in quality.
in 10 years we have not had a bad night at Dragonfly, until today.
Degraded for sure.
Delicious!
Had a wonderful meal here- everything from starters to desserts were delicious. Started with cauliflower and then pork dumplings, the cauliflower was good but the dumplings were excellent. We all got different sushi to share, the bomb roll, smoking dragon roll and California roll. All were SO good, the smoking dragon a must if you like spicy.
To end the meal we had mochi and a green tea crème brûlée, both very good. Such a great meal with super attentive service (Matthew was amazing). Can’t wait to return when in town again.
A must visit
Friendly and excellent service. A must stop for travelers when in Gainesville We ordered several dishes and all were excellent. Thank you.
Be the first to ReplyVery stinky place
The first thing that caught my rejection was the horrible smell the restaurant has, for that reason I asked to be seated outside. The service was very sporadic, so we had to wait for every thing arround 40 minutes before we could start eating. Expensive and the nothing special.
Be the first to ReplyThe vibe is happening
The vibe of this Asian Hot spot is what draws crowds nightly. I had appetizers and they were good but a tad on the greasy side. The service is exemplary and the plays runs like a well oiled machine. It’s the Gainesville hip joint, so check it out and steer clear of the calamari.
Be the first to ReplyLove it
I have been to dragonfly a few times and it's great! Love the food, sushi, atmosphere. It has a great bar area downtown, but you often have to wait for a table so arrive early. Service can be a little slow at times, too but it's still worth it to visit. :)
