Elote Cafe Sedona Reviews from The Last Year
A cut above your average Mexican restaurant
We struggled to get a table here at 5.30 pm and ended up waiting 30 minutes eventually deciding to eat at the bar - which was a good decision. The 2 guys at the bar were absolutely fantastic and really looked after us. Food is excellent - the best Fajitas I’ve ever had. Beautifully spiced and plenty of chicken (which is the expensive ingredient) the food was fabulous. If you can get a table here do so - you will not be disappointed
Favorite meal in Sedona!
This was by far our fav meal in Sedona. The salsa was unique and tasty, and the namesake elote dish rocked, as did the tomato and nopales salad. My partner, a foodie, absolutely loved his smoked pork cheeks. The romaine salad was a bit overdressed for my liking, and the corn desert was only okay, but the other dishes compensated easily for these small deficiencies. I’d note that our reso was 8:15pm (only one we could get). We called and called to see if we could get in earlier, but never got through. Finally we just showed up early and were immediately seated…
First time at the new location.
On the smaller intimate side w a good feel and look. The famous blood orange margaritas did not disappoint ever! Food and service were outstanding and well worth the value. The elote is outstanding! Reservations are a must plan well ahead!

We were lucky enough to enjoy a meal at the Elote Cafe, and it was absolutely perfect. For drinks we had a limeade (me, driving) and a blackberry margarita. We ordered three appetizers - the elote, corn crusted scallops, and the chorizo verde queso fundido. All were exceptional. For the main course, we shared the smoked brisket enchiladas. For desert, we shared the flan. Omar, our waiter, was very friendly, and very helpful with our choices. We asked about the chef and he told us that the chef (Jeff Smedstad) is there every day and really works hard at his craft. The admiration is really sweet and genuine. The rest of the staff were also very friendly, and very kind to us. We also loved the decor, the blankets if you were cold, the floors, the walls, the music. Everything. Thank you Elote Cafe for making our stay in Sedona so special. It's a meal we will never forget.
Fabulous Carne Asada! I read about this restaurant in Moon Rt 66 guide. Best Carne Asada I have ever had!
We tried to make a reservation on the day we arrived. I didn’t notice that the Open Table reservation they gave me was for May! Luckily for us, when we arrived for what I thought was our 6:30 reservation, someone else canceled so they could fit us in. I asked for the steak to be medium rare. It was cooked perfectly. My husband got the smoked brisket enchiladas. His meal was great too. He also liked the Margarita special and I enjoyed a delicious glass of Red wine. The chef/owner came to the table to ask if we liked our meal. Nice touch! I highly recommend!

Dined here Tuesday night with my wife and son who was visiting from New York. Everything was perfect. Our waiter, Omar did a great job explaining the dishes and went about his job very efficiently. First came complimentary crisp delicious chips and salsa. Next we tried the signature elote which was definitely as good as advertised. My wife ordered the lamb adobo which is a huge lamb shank cooked in a rich wonderful sauce. I tried the pork cheeks which is smoked for hours and also came atop a corn cake which I had never tasted before. My dinner was terrific. Our son, who was quite excited about finally getting to dine here, loved his shrimp dish. The dinners were more than ample, were absolutely delicious and very fairly priced. Elote is a real gem!
My husband and I decided to stop here and have a late
My husband and I decided to stop here and have a late lunch/early dinner after a long hike at West Fork Trail. When we arrived we went straight in at 5:00 not realizing we needed a reservation. Since it was just the two of us, the hostess asked if we were able to leave by 6:30, which we assured her we would. We were seated out in the patio area that had heating devices to keep us warm. The food was good and the service was fast. We were served with homemade salsa and chips. I ordered the Grilled Halibut which was soooooooo good. Hubby ate some delicious Baja grilled tacos ( he didn't want fried which is how they are served). We decided to order dessert, Pastel Da Elote ( our waiter said it was his favorite) which did not disappoint.
Outstanding service and a great menu.
The Elote corn was amazing. This place is always fully booked. If you to eat at Elote on your next trip to Sedona show up 10 minutes before they open and you will usually get a table.

You have to make reservations months in advance, we ended up getting take out. First off, it was really convenient to call in after 3PM to scheduled a take out order for later on in the day. We drove in from phoenix airport and made our order during the drive. Elote - delicious, the best dish there. Guac and chip - it was okay. Tamale - liked the green sauce it was in, however there is no filling. Keep that in mind. Carne asada - came with both a hard shell tortilla and two soft ones along with beans and rice. The flavor was Smokey, did not really care for it. Corn cake (not pictured) - really good!! Comes with ice cream and I liked the texture.
Our much-anticipated evening at Elote was met with a blend
Our much-anticipated evening at Elote was met with a blend of highs and lows. After months of eager anticipation, our group of six women arrived to find the atmosphere welcoming, with a cozy ambiance that set the stage for a memorable evening. The service, while undeniably friendly, bordered on overly enthusiastic. Still, it's clear the staff's intentions were genuine and the efforts were appreciated, even if slightly overwhelming. As for the food, it left much to be desired. While the dishes were adequately prepared, they fell short of the culinary expectations one might have for a highly-rated establishment. My dish, for example, came with two corn crusted scallops on a plate that my friends and I joked resembled Thanksgiving dinner - tomato jam (kinda tasted like cranberry sauce), white truffle crema (which seemed more like sour cream), pickled onions, and sprinkled with dried corn kernels. I was not expecting that! A few of my friends were also quite underwhelmed and felt like their dishes could've been better seasoned because they were bland. This was my second time visiting Elote. And, to be honest, I was reluctant going back as my first visit wasn't amazing either. Our experience can be summed up as pleasant but not exceptional. While the service was attentive, the overall culinary experience failed to leave a lasting impression. With a few tweaks to the menu and a touch of less intensity from the staff, Elote has the potential to elevate its dining experience to truly memorable heights. With all its great reviews, maybe I'm the oddball. Regardless, I certainly have hopes for continued success for this charming establishment.
Not your usual Cafe
What a lucky find. We happened onto Elote Cafe almost by accident. It was very busy even at 5 pm but fortunately they had 2 bar seats available. We went against our rules of not ordering multiple appetizers instead of mains as we’re all too often disappointed with some of the choices made. We were not disappointed. First we started with the daily special blood orange Margarita. It was a bit pricey but very good. The gratis house tortilla chips and salsa were top notch. The appetizers arrived in twos and spaced sufficiently to allow time to eat the first two. The beet salad and the guacamole dip were delicious. The beet salad was perfect and refreshing. The guacamole also was delicious with large chunks of avocado instead of it all being smashed into a paste. The green corn tamale and fish tacos followed. The tamale was perfectly steamed and flavourful. The tacos were generous and used sea bass which was far better than some fish tacos that often use boring flavourless fish. Our seats afforded us a view of the bar action and the restaurant. The employees clearly knew how to run this place while being excellent hosts to their guests. We went in hungry and left more than satisfied and all within less than 1 hour.
Very fine nouveau Mexicano.
Creative and whimsical. Had the duck carnitas - delicious. Be careful if you try to book online earlier. The service used defaults to a later date if nothing is available when you want it. We didn't realize til we got there. Luckily they fit us in.
Very disappointed in the food and ambiance.
All the hype about this place is unreal. I feel sorry about spending my money and time here. A poor rendition of Mexican food at best. Don't believe the hype and save yourself the time and money to eat here. Subpar food and ambience.
Great dishes.
My favorite been the halibut. Great drinks and fantastic dessert. Highly recommend to try it
A must stop for Mexican food!
YUM! I had seen this restaurant on a few tik toks and it did not disappoint. We did not have a reservation, so we had to sit outside. There were heaters and blankets to use. We ordered guacamole and the bowl was huge. It was really good. My daughter and I shared the smoked brisket enchiladas and they were amazing. I had the highlands margarita and it was so good. Highly recommend.
Taste bud crazy Mexican food
Best Mexican ever Came here from Salt Lake City for hiking and food. Both were great but the food was incredible. Appetizer Elote (corn dip and goat cheese balls Entree: Brisket enchiladas and Smoked pork cheeks, dessert sweet corn bread with berries and homemade ice cream. BOMB.COM.
Amazing dining experience!
The atmosphere is charming yet casual. The food and drinks were wonderful!. Our server was attentive and helpful. Amazing dining experience!
Elote Exellence!
An awesome meal and Johnny was superb at recommendations and service. We had the Tamale appetizer and the smoked pork cheeks for dinner. Both were excellent. The only complaint we had was that we did not take the opportunity to go back for another meal.
Slightly overpriced, but the taste factor is exceptional.
A little overpriced for the Mexican dishes they're serving, but understandable because of the prestige of the location. I love their twist on the Southwest-Mexican flavors. the cocktail of the day which is white peach margarita is $16 for the glass?!!! Too overpriced. However, I loved the lamb adobo which I had a very huge portion! Complex flavors. The buffalo mole poblano is ok, but expected a richer mole! The elote dip is SUBLIME as well as the tomato-nopales salad. The service is very kind and attentive, the ambiance is posh and cozy. Great great experience
Excellent foodie restaurant
We called to see if we could somehow get a reservation and were able to get a seat at the bar. The food was amazing! We highly recommend this restaurant. Reservations are needed and they were booked a month in advance. Plan accordingly. A foodies must!

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
