Great place very great bread.
Been here 4 times. Always good drinks , food and service. Guinness brown bread always great I had the halibut which was cooked well and had a nice sauce. Also had the Mille here and a mille there. Great flavor. My wife had the rabbit fricassee. She said it was very good. Two people had the bells and whistles. They loved them but I felt too spicy. Service was very good.
Be the first to ReplyOverrated and disappointing!
Overrated! Disappointing! Food was not impressive, cocktails were small and average and service was not good. For a Michelin restaurant this one didn’t do it for me!
Be the first to ReplyDon’t miss the opportunity to dine here!
Simply THE best brunch I’ve had in at least a decade. The Tequila Wine feeling Fine might be the best cocktail I’ve ever had. The beignets are Guinness brown bread are great! The pizza was absolutely fantastic! Don’t sleep on the Fish & Chips, WOW!!! Bucatini was delicious and so were the pancakes. As if we didn’t have enough carbs, we loved the bread pudding and the strudel was delicious! The service was equally fantastic! I couldn’t recommend a place any more than Fable & Spirit. Thanks to all that made our brunch so special! Cheers, until next time.
Be the first to ReplyHighly Recommend! Excellent food and excellent service!
This was an excellent restaurant. The location is great located very centrally in the Lido Village area it has parking available in the multi-storey across the street. The food was excellent bordering on perfect. We had the Wood Fired Pizzetta to share as a starter and it was really good. The sweetness of the burrata combined with the balsamic created a perfect combination. I had the Halibut as a main and it was perfectly cooked. It was moist, flavourful and a great combination of flakiness and rigidity. The celeriac was smooth and tasty and the combination of the peas and mushrooms were excellent. My mum had the short rib and after trying a bit for myself I can say it was great. It has a really nice flavour and basically fell apart at the slightest pull. The cabbage was very flavourful and the bacon was nice and crispy. The only thing she wasn’t very keen on was how mustardy the potatoes were but other than that it was a great dish. My brother had the Cracked Pepper Bucatini but without the clams as he doesn’t like seafood. The servers description of it as like a carbonara on steroids was a perfect depiction. It was excellent and my brother ate every bit. A feat not achieved by many restaurants. We decided to skip desert as we were full but saw other peoples and they all looked great. Now is the time to praise the staff because we arrived without reservation to a busy restaurant and the hostess was able to find a table for us within 10 mins. She was also excellent at keeping us involved in conversation whilst we waited and was a very likeable person. Our server was also great. He was attentive without being over bearing but was always around if we needed something. We also overheard him talking to another of his tables about the history of the restaurant and I thought that it was really nice that they know a lot about it. I highly recommend anyone in the Newport Beach area to go to Fable and Spirit and next time we are in the area it will definitely be on our must go to list.

This is the third times we have rated this place as 5 stars. I think this is a first for me to do that. The service is great and so is the food. Guinness brown bread. Soft, warm and delicious Whipped butter with honey and sea salt, soft and perfect with the bread Just the two of us as a drink - it struck me as too strong at first but after the third sip I was very happy with it. It could have been the extra stirring. Something hard to do with the large ice cube. Confit chicken - second time and glad I got it again. Others got Lamb. Bucatini - very good Blueberry Meyer Lemon bread pudding - Wow this is great.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing restaurant
This was my second time in this restaurant and I plan to go back whenever im back in Newport Beach. The food was very good, and the wine selection was perfect. Waiters are professional and very well trained. I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant, I could get a table for two without a reservation on a Thursday night. Recommended
Be the first to ReplySo many positives
We hadn’t booked but still managed to get a table for 5 in the outdoor section on a Friday night. It was pumping and the atmosphere was electric. The lady who seated us kind of shoved a few tables around and we had to adjust the feet as the tables were ridiculous wobbly. After that slightly rough start the night took a positive turn. The food was fabulous and the drinks menu long. The Octopus was my fave although we also had prawns, steak, lamb and deserts. Watch the byo corkage fee. Not sure if it’s normal for Newport but we thought it was a bit rich.
Be the first to ReplyGood cocktails, poorly cooked burgers
We visited for a family New Year’s Day dinner with 6 people. We made a reservation and we’re seated as soon as we walked in. The interior is modern but feels small and cozy. Sound level was low and all members of our table were able to chat the whole night. Our waitress was nice and quick to get drinks and orders. She came to check on us often. We ordered a few cocktails. the fairy’s revenge and all bark and no bite were very good with complex flavors. The gin and tonic was underwhelming and lacked the whimsy and novelty of the other drinks. For appetizers, we ordered the pork belly with couscous and the Guinness bread, both were very good with the bread on the sweeter side. The starters and cocktails were great, but unfortunately the main plates were mixed, some good and some disappointing. The rabbit, the fish and chips, and the salmon were good and the Brussels sprouts were fantastic. The Fable burger was were things went bad. I asked for it cooked medium rare and it came out well done, which makes it difficult to eat as the pork bell on top is also on the tough side, making for a jaw work out. The waitress was offered to have the burger remade, at medium rare. The burger took quite a while to remake, so I spent most of the dinner with no food, but when it did come back out it was cooked well done again :( This may telling of how their steaks will be cooked…overcooked. The Fable and Spirit has the potential to be very good, but the execution of the cooking can be improved to make this a better experience. At a $26 dollar price point. A burger should be properly cooked.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Vibe and Food!
We popped in for drinks last weekend and sat at the bar. The bartenders were so kind and friendly as well as the staff. The drinks were delicious. We weren't going to order food but the meals coming out looked divine. We tried several different tapas and shared with our group. Everything on the menu was fantastic. Get there before opening to get a place at the bar. So glad we were able to try Fable and Spirit!
Be the first to ReplyHostess Should Be Fired
On our first visit last January 2021 we had a disappointing experience. The 2-top tables were so close together the server's rear end was literally in our face when he served the table next to us. We complained to the manager, but nothing was done.
So considering it's restaurant week, we thought we would give them another try. Made reservations a full week in advance on Resy and thought I requested the dining room since the evenings are cold outside. In my comments on the reservation website I explained my past negative experience and requested better seating this time. When we arrived at our reservation time, turns out I reserved the "Dinner Patio" in error. I asked the hostess Gabriella if they could seat us inside. She said they were totally booked and offered us the bar, which we declined because it seemed too cramped. Gabriella proceeded to take us outside to our table outside which is basically a table next to another retail establishment in the alley. No one else was eating outside at the time, and Gabriella arrogantly said she would "accommodate" us there. There is a small gated outdoor area with about 5 or 6 tables with heaters which was totally empty except for one couple. Those tables were not offered to us and when my wife told Gabriella the table she gave us was not acceptable she rolled her eyes and said "Oh My God" like we were being unreasonable. You would think that since we had a bad experience on our first visit, a "Michelin" contender would go out of their way to make sure their customers were served properly. Hostesses like Gabriella should pursue less people-facing careers. She was rude, arrogant and unpleasant.
We asked to speak to the manager but he was not interested in improving the our customer experience, and spent the entire time defending Gabriella.
Hey Michelin, you really missed the boat on this one.
Our favorite in Newport Beach area
This was our second visit got Seth C again as server. Again he was very good.
Great service
Drink Millie here and a Millie there. Very nice
Wife got Friends forever very good with strong taste
Ginnis brown bread loved by all very good soft and tastey
Chicken Confit was very good as duck fat was used.
Meyers lemon Bread pudding was very good.
Everyone was impressed with the food and service.
Good & Bad
This is a tough review to write because there were some great positives, but also some negatives to our experience. I'm hoping that management reads this review and fixes some of the problems ASAP. First, a big positive. The servers were wonderful. Attentive and efficient. The reception desk is understaffed - only one person. They need more than one person so one can be greeting guests while someone else is seating people and someone else is answering the phone. The receptionist who greeted us was very nice and accommodated our request for inside seating when we had reserved patio.
Now for the food. The Beef Agnolotti was one of the best appetizers I've ever had. Despite the other problems we experienced, we'll come back just to eat this dish again and to try other items on the menu. The citrus salad was also delicious and well balanced. The Guiness Brown Bread was not as I remembered it. This is a $9 dish, and for that amount, it should be exceptional. When I've ordered it in the past it was served fresh out of the oven. This time it was pre-sliced and dry. I have a feeling it was baked earlier in the day and reheated. We also ordered fish and chips. The chips were fine, but the fish had an acrid flavor, as if the oil had been heated past the smoke point. Perhaps it is personal preference, but I also prefer thinner slices of fish so you get a higher ratio of crust to flesh.
Great service and great food
Instrasting drink menu
A Millie here, a Millie there. Bourbon, green chartreuse, pistachio or gear, lemon, egg white , angostura - very good
One of us got the You Complete Me. She felt it was a bit sweet and when she made a comment they made an adjustment and made the drink better.
Overall we were impressed with the service because at times other server stepped in and covered for our main server. Our main guy Seth C was very good. We saw him handle a table with a broken glass and it was done with class.
We had the rabbit, halibut and bucatini with a side of Brussels sprouts. The sprouts are not to be missed.
To close we had the bread pudding.
With 5 stars, I do not need to go into the food details., all was great.
Drinks were about $15 each and meals about $28. They deliver on the price.
A Real Treasure!
We finally tried Fable and Spirit and it was well worth the half hour drive! The restaurant is beautiful, in a nice casual sort of way. Seth was our server and he couldn't have been more detailed in describing drinks and food for us and gave us exceptional service throughout our evening.
The foods we had were all excellent both in presentation and taste. We have had octopus at a few very good restaurants now, and this one topped them all! We also had the clams which were large and tender with a rich creamy sauce my husband finished with a spoon as if it were soup.
We ordered short ribs and halibut as our main courses, and shared bites of each so I can say both were fantastic with wonderful flavors and nice portions which we did not leave a bite of!
We were celebrating our anniversary and they gifted us their blueberry- lemon bread pudding, so yummy too though by this point we couldn't finish it.
Oh yes, the cocktails... ample samples so my husband could decide between 2 beers and I tried the pirate something drink that was delicious and served picture perfect.
We are now huge fans and highly recommend Fable and Spirit!
Thoughtful, attentive service, exquisite cuisine
Brown bread with honey butter. It’s dangerously delicious. I wanted to eat the entire plate but forced myself to be controlled. There were so many other dishes to come! We ordered the mussels, rib caps, fish and chips, halibut, salmon and citrus salad. The dessert was Meyer lemon bread pudding. I don’t generally like bread pudding but this was divine. The wine drinkers at the table loved the options offered by the amazing sommelier. Maybe the best restaurant in Newport Beach 😋

Lunch for us, after a 2 hour drive was pretty darned good here.
Our server Lawren, was ok. She had a tendency to not be visible when we needed her.
There were 3 of us, I ordered the Citrus fruit salad with crunchy Quinoa. It was refreshingly delicious.
Husband ordered fish n chips. He enjoyed his meal. It came w/ mashed fresh sweet peas, stacked fries and mustard.
Mom ordered the crispy chicken salad which was a huge piece of chicken breaded and fried over greens, corn, & avocado.
One beer and 2 glasses of Savi accompanied our meals.
An enjoyable experience.
We were surprised to see the gratuity suggestion beginning at 20% up to 25%.
We tip according to the service provided and food as ordered.
My husband found this gem
My husband found this gem of a place with outdoor dining in Lido Marina. Our waitress was excellent and helped us make great selections. We shared three plates- prawns, kale Caesar salad, and salmon. The prawns were delicious and flavorful, with a smoky tomato flavor. The kale Caesar salad was also delicious with lots of flavor, and we loved it. The salmon with mushrooms was delicious! We loved every bite. Cooked perfectly.
Also enjoyed the people watching, and our waitress’ recommendation to check our another restaurant by the boats (we stopped there the next day -Lido Bottle Works).
Cutting edge menu selections
The food is very good, the décor is cool and upbeat, the servers are pleasant and helpful, but the most attractive part for us are the interesting choices on the menu. We have been here for both lunch and dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the food on both occasions. There are very few places where you will get a Duck Confit Roll for lunch. The Potato Boxty Dumplings and Wood Fired Octopus are recommended appetizers---but don't pass on the Guinness Brown Bread--wonderful--they also do a very good job with the Fish and Chips. Had the opportunity to talk with the owner about wine---they have a number of things you probably have not tried before.
Be the first to ReplyA special lunch spot in Lido Island!
This is a beautiful restaurant! We came here for lunch and it was great! You have to get the noble Bread with sweet honey butter for the table...it’s unreal! We had the duck confit sandwich, porchetta sandwich, snap peas and the summer chopped salad with fried chicken. Everything we ate was better than the next. The party sitting next to us got the fish and chips and a pasta dish and they looked great as well. There are so many options on the menu, it was hard to choose what to get. We will definitely be back here again. The cocktails were quite yummy as well. Oh, I can’t forget about the truffle fries and their homemade chips...addictive! This a great new restaurant in the Lido Island area.
