3-Star Michelin Flocons de Sel in stylish Megève: The right marriage of precision and warmth
Nine happy lives, eight courses, four whites and one red wines pairing later at 3-Star Michelin Guide Flocons de Sel in stylish Megève, Chef Emmanuel Renaut invited us for a visit into his atelier-kitchen, where he took it all in good stride when we asked him sheepishly if he’s seen @themenufilm (he has;), and gifted us a signed copy of his cookery book, The Mountain and the Chef. The chalet-ambiance is truly 3 Michelin stars in that the acoustics, 15-tables arrangement, lighting, drapes and soft furnishings, sculptures and music were entirely complementary to our experience without distraction. The service was exquisite and we were attended to noticeably and unnoticeably as the moment called for — en Français et Anglais — which may have been due to the masterful direction of Chef’s wife and elegant collaborator, Kristine. When we first bumped into Chef at the start of the evening ‘unintentionally exploring’ he did not hesitate to graciously direct us upstairs where we enjoyed a fizzy aperitif aside a glass cabinet of vintage Michelin Guide classics dating back to Edwardian times and covering of course France, Italy, Great Britain and Ireland, Spain and Portugal, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Japan and well, well beyond. How I would love to drive my new 2022 Michelin snow tires through those routes to see what’s there. It is a wonderful place to ‘taste’ (La Promenade is offered over five or eight courses) and dare I say eat and we had an outrageous time sampling the creative presentation of French Alpine Savoie fare, with savoir faire, influenced by proximity to Italian and Swiss Alpine borders too. The restaurant is booked two months in advance (we were lucky to be offered a cancellation). This is the right marriage of precision and warmth. Stay at its namesake 5-star hotel, or nearby, so that you do not need to drive afar — we started at 7pm until the bewitching hour without knowing time had passed;). 🌟🌟🌟🇫🇷
Be the first to ReplyAn amazing evening
We started with a drink on the terrace with a beautiful view that is seldom seen, total escapism. The dinner was incredible and each plate more interesting and beautiful than the next. Our party of four each came away happy and wishing we were going back the next evening. The lady who was overseeing the dining room, we understood to be Mr Renaut's wife, was simply charming and made us feel at home from the start. Oh, and a wine list to match anywhere!
