Galatoire's is the finest restaurant in New Orleans and one
Galatoire's is the finest restaurant in New Orleans and one of the best in the US. We have had many family celebrations there, most recently my wife's birthday last night. If you are a New Orleans visitor, take one night off from the tourist spots and try this truly classic restaurant. Remember to wear your jacket gentlemen.

Made a reservation for Friday lunch but was not able to sit in the main dining room due to not requesting it specifically before hand; we felt a bit of relief after actually walking through the main room as it was quite rowdy. Overall the food was decent throughout the meal, with the potatoes souffle worth calling out. We also had some red fish almoundine that was pretty good, but not the best I had in NOLA on my trip. I think the restaurant is worth a visit for classic French dishes and the $3 cocktails, but not a must go.

This is my favorite restaurant in the world! Yes, fact! Unfortunately, New Orleans is not the family friendly city of the past when I would take my young children to the city for a long weekend which always included Galatoire's Restaurant for the oysters Rockefeller - divine. The French bread is Heaven, itself. I haven't been back in years because the city has declined so badly. Sad, but true.
Be the first to ReplyNice restaurant.
Very upscale. Good food and great service. Very loud, not intimate at all. May come back another time.

not sure why this place has so many good reviews and was sooo hyped up. overall the food was meh and the ambiance was weird. the servers were really attentive with refilling water, getting more bread and checking in on us but i feel like overall the food was lacking. - crawfish etouffee: 4/10. overall didn't really taste like anything and was watery. this was my first time having etouffee but it just didn't really have any taste. originally i wanted to order the shrimp etouffee but the server mentioned it was nearing the end of crawfish season and recommended to try it. the crawfish were sooo tiny i couldnt even taste it - brussel sprouts: 6/10. cooked in a tabasco honey sauce that was different from anything ive had before but im not sure i liked the flavor as it was a bit sweet - portabello mushrooms: 10/10, honestly the highlight of my meal lol i had a few bites of my friends dishes and i think the eggplant might have been the best. it does have alot of cheese tho so something to consider.
Be the first to ReplyI don't even know what to say about this place.
It's fancy. Yes. I'm not too fancy. Men have to wear pants. I get it. There is a rich history to this place which necessitates certain formalities. Fine. But the food and service is truly outstanding. Dom was our server who listened expertly to what we wanted and delivered. We started with an app that included crab, shrimp, and crawfish. Devine. Then moved on to an asparagus and heart of palm salad that was unique and delicious. Dom was server who expertly recommended our next course of soft Shell Crab and red Fish. He asked if we were celebrating anything special and we mentioned our 30th year anniversary. At the end of the meal he brought us two glasses of champagne and the got the entire restaurants attention to toast us. We were then greeted by the owner who gave us pens and postcards to commentate the occasion. The icing on the cake was meeting a young man perusing his dreams and providing our encouragement and support to him. What a fabulous lunch and experience. If you have the chance to go to this place do so. The food is superior, the atmosphere is unique and the people were unforgettable. Thank you for making our experience so memorable.

Must start with the garlic bread, which is absolutely delicious. It was hot and fresh and garlic. I think the soufflé potatoes were a little overrated based on the reviews. In my opinion I think it taste like that outside of a regular French fry once it's been fried creamy sauce that it comes with was also underwhelming, sampler appetizer tray was OK. My fish dish with a lump up crab meat on top was pretty darn delicious. My biggest gripe about this place is that there is no insulation whatsoever. It's just tile all around and there's no dividers between the tables and therefore it is very very loud inside. I could barely hear the waiter, shouting out the restaurant daily specials. communication was pretty difficult in this atmosphere. What I did enjoy is the live band that came through. The dress code is something to note. Business casual but more towards formal for men. Everybody is dressed up. They have coat racks at the front. Dressed as if you're going to a spring wedding is my recommendation.

the ambiance was a little off the staff was in the dining room chatting which took away from the experience (it didn't feel like fine dining). the fried eggplant was the best! the creole chicken was good but not mind blowing. the bread pudding was chewy but the flavor was good. they brought out a panna cotta for my birthday which was very kind but not good at all. overall the service and food was good but i don't think i would go out of my way to go there again.

This restaurant probably has the strictest dress code among all the high end restaurants in New Orleans. Gentlemen without a jacket cannot dine in their main dining room and have to be escorted to the 33 Dining Room next door. They do have a bunch of jackets hanging by the door for customers to borrow if needed. Tennis shoes and sneakers are not allowed for both ladies and gentlemen even at lunch time. We dined in the 33 Dining Room which is less classy and it got pretty noisy. Service was excellent, really attentive and the staff checked on us frequently. The three of us shared their Duck and Andouille Gumbo, Soufflé Potato, Oyster Rockefeller, Chicken Creole, Bouillabaisse, and USDA Prime Ribeye. We asked for the steak to be prepared blackened and they did a really nice job of it. Most other restaurants we went to in New Orleans wouldn't do blacken. The food was good in general but not exceptional. They did have the best gumbo among all the restaurants we tried this trip (Antoine, Brennan's, Commander's Palace, Oceana Grill, etc.).

Some really nice dishes, particularly the duck gumbo and the crab grautin -- delicious. Impeccable service. Crowd was a bit uptight, but can't blame the restaurant for that.
Be the first to ReplyHave been here so many times and each time exceeds the last.
The waiters and waitresses are so knowledgeable on the menu and never steer me wrong when I want to try something new. Cauliflower au gratin is my newest obsession here. Definitely not something I would've ordered if it hadn't been recommended. Great wine options as well
Be the first to ReplyWe decided to do one super fancy high end meal this trip
We decided to do one super fancy high end meal this trip and we were trying to decide between Galatoire's and Antoine's. I chose Galatoire's because I love seafood. The website says men need to wear a jacket. We learned this wasn't exactly true as non-jacketed men were seated in a side room. I actually liked this side room better than the main dining room (my husband had a jacket, we just happened to get seated on the side). The side is warm decor with deep woods and greens, the lighting is less harsh, and it seemed like there was more room between tables. Anyway, service was impeccable. One thing that can annoy me about fancy restaurants is that the server comes by every 5 minutes to check in. At Galatoire's they had a real sense of when to stop by and when to let you eat. I started with the turtle soup (I feel guilty for eating it, but damn it's good) that had a sherry float. We also had oysters rockefeller which were divine. I had the sauteed Pompano and I'm still thinking about how delicious that was. It was topped with jumbo lump crab--so sweet and succulent. My husband had friend Sheepshead smothered in shrimp etouffee. We also had creamed spinach and Lyonnaise Potatoes. Honestly, we didn't need the sides, we had more than enough food. Still, not deterred we had the key lime tart and the pecan pie. Everything was beyond delicious.
Be the first to ReplySuperior service and food.
Comfortable surroundings and friendly throughout. Would recommend for nice evening with family or friends.
Be the first to ReplyTried the famous souffle potatoes as well as turtle soup
Tried the famous souffle potatoes as well as turtle soup given my first time in New Orleans - both were unique. Turtle soup sort of just reminded me of a lentil soup and worth trying once but probably wouldn't get again. Crab Yvonne was tasty but didn't notice any artichokes and would have been disappointed with this as an entree if didn't share the veal chop (as seemed more like a side dish). Veal chop was phenomenal with the red wine sauce. Someone also got the salmon with the lemon caper sauce and loved the sauce. Bread pudding and the pecan pie were also both very good. Wearing a jacket seemed a bit unnecessary given probably the least fancy of all the restaurants we dined in that week, but we knew we had to going in so guess it was our choice not to go if we wanted. Probably wouldn't go ever again if in the area to avoid having to pack one and to me wasn't worth it given thought some of the other restaurants in the area were better and had nicer ambience.

We've been here before many years ago and the quality of the food was 10x better. I never send food back, but my trout entree was overcooked and tough. The second time they brought it out, it was undercooked and smell like fish that had been sitting out lukewarm on the counter for a day. I had my fiancé try a bit too to make sure I wasn't being picky - he agreed the fish tasted spoiled and smelled horrible, even with the lemon blanc sauce on top. We called for the floor manager and told her we didn't mean to complain, but the food was inedible. She offered a cup of gumbo which was delicious. We didn't even mention my fiancé's steak which was waaaay undercooked (he asked for medium and got RARE with blood oozing out). The dessert was great, and the service was a 3.5 out of 5, but sadly the entrees are 1 out of 5 and we won't be coming back again.
Be the first to ReplyI was having trouble with their reservation system
I was having trouble with their reservation system confirming the incorrect reservation time, so I called. Three times. Held for more than five minutes each time. Left two messages. Never received returned call. Figured if they were this bad at managing reservations, it wasn't worth trying their food.

A very elegant restaurant where we spent my wife's Birthday during our trip to New Orleans. Located right on bourbon street, Galatoire is New Orleans French elegance mixed with interesting creole twist.
Be the first to ReplyGreat places for dining experience.
Great hors d'oeuvre served before the dinner. The Bar had limited options for hard drinks. We had prefix menu, the kitchen was flexible with accommodating my Special diet. The ambiance was not appealing on the 2nd level. They however have an amazing Balcony view. The service was great and the servers were courteous.
Be the first to ReplyWaiter was very helpful and knowledgeable .
The food was great. You can feel the tradition.
Be the first to ReplyThere are so many better places than this.
The oysters Rockefeller and Escargot were really good but our entrees were very bland and flavorless... we ordered the shrimp etoufee, gumbo, bouillabaisse, chicken Clemenceau. All bland. The ambiance was terrible. The place had a strict dress code but everything in there was old and very lackluster. Not impressed at all. I have to say this one more time.... Flavorless!!!

Be the first to ReplyThe service was excellent and the martinis superb but it is
The service was excellent and the martinis superb but it is a small space and it is extremely loud, everyone try's to be heard and the noise volume keeps raising. The potato soufflé's were great. Think of a thinly sliced potato chip that is puffed up and full of air in the center. My husband had grilled black drum with lump crab in brown butter of the top, it was excellent. I had stuffed eggplant. What it is is not really a stuffed eggplant but a very thin slice of eggplant in a sauté dish covered with this mushy yucky tasted like breadcrumbs with Cajun seasoning mixed with small cubes cooked eggplant some chopped shrimp and alittle lump crab meat put under the broiler, not good and totally disappointing and disgusting. I ended up picking out the few shrimp pieces and crab along with what little eggplant there was because it had the texture of mush. We thought we would try the dark chocolate panna cotta, another wont order that again. I make Panna Cotta and this was more like runny sour light chocolate pudding with canned whipping cream (which there is NO excuse for serving in this day and age) and chocolate syrup drizzle (Hershey's possibly) over the top, we ended up leaving 3/4 of it it was so bad. Another disappointment but my husband loved his fish and martinis so the meal wasn't a total bomb
Be the first to ReplyTerrible experience.
My wife and I sat at a small table in the far corner of the restaurant and were completely ignored for 30 minutes. No menu, no acknowledgement by our server, just a stale loaf of bread and a few hard pieces of butter. We walked out to, again, the acknowledgment of no one.

We made reservations over a month ago and ended up leaving 40 minutes after being seated because no one acknowledged us a single time after we were seated. We didn't even receive menus. Horrible service. This was our honey moon.
Be the first to ReplyWent to Galatories during Mardi Gras weekend.
For the price you get, i was very disappointed in the food quality. Also, the server we had was super stressed and you could tell throughout the whole experience. We ordered white fish, which was very delicious. Mashed potatoes as the side item. Very good. We had oysters as appetizers and were under the impression they were raw, which they were overly cooked and flavor was just . Our orders got messed up and we ended up with our friends order and not realizing until after we had already ate it. They couldn't remember who ordered what the entire time and all of us got mixed food. It was a bday celebration and got the baked Alaska which was massive, delicious, but over priced and they didn't want us to share with anyone. The ambiance in there is loud, as it's like a big convention center room. I heard such great things about this Resturant prior to go and it did not meet my standard unfortunately.
