I wouldn't bother , o.k. if you're only on a visit.
Been my go to pub for 50 years , gone downhill rapidly since it became company owned . Toilets are an experience to be missed if you can . Staff are rude , never the same , have to stand on your head for them to notice you. Short changed and wrong drinks given with no redress as there's never a manager to speak to . Music is awful these days with the exception of one or two acts. Regulars that we used to get the craic with no longer go in now . Sad to see the changes .

The worst night ever....we were bullied by security at the door...absolutely shocking....the manner of those 2 guys was unacceptable ,rude and they were evidently on some substances

We were visiting friends and family. We had an amazing time in this pub, danced our socks off. Everyone was really friendly.
Be the first to ReplyAvoid this place.
Very aggressive door staff who want to bully people to fuel their ego. Avoid at all costs as there are plenty of other pubs with a more welcoming atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyThe life and soul of the Inverness party!
Gellions is the life and soul of the Inverness party. Live music 7 nights a week, lively clientelle, manic during big rugby matches. Fine selection of beers.
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere
Went specifically for the traditional music and the pub didn't disappoint. Great lively atmosphere, with pleasant staff, and a good selection of drinks. Easy to find too. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyThe Oldest, Coolest Pub In Inverness
We were staying in nearby Dingwall, and after a day travelling from Loch Ness to the Battlefield Of Culloden - we decided to go visit Inverness and find somewhere to have a drink and possibly a bite to eat. And because we always search for the oldest pub in a city we naturally had to visit Gellions Bar. Founded in 1841 and named after the woman who had the original licence - this is a cool, quaint little pub that doesn't take itself too seriously. We were hoping to get something to eat, but the two girls working the bar said they didn't have any food (something that we had come to expect from most pubs in England and Scotland) but recommended another place not too far away. We decided to stay for a pint anyway and get to know a little bit more about this pub and Inverness. Turns out that they have music here every night starting at 9:30 Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays and Sundays at 5:00 there is a Ceilidh, featuring music from a local Scottish folk band called Schiehallion. Right on Bridge Street - its hard to miss - so check them out, have a pint and if you're there at the right time you can take in some great tunes!

We were on a day visit from our cruise and the tour guide recommended this place as a great one to go to for a pint. He was right!
Be the first to ReplyCheck prices before ordering
Notice at the bar stated cocktails ยฃ5 which I thought was a really good price so ordered an expresso martini. My husband had a pint of lager. Bill came to ยฃ14.95. Another menu on our table showed same cocktail at ยฃ7.95. When we queried the price for 2 drinks we were told the prices changed yesterday and cocktail was now ยฃ9. ยฃ4 more expensive than I'd expected to pay. We felt we'd been ripped off. I know cocktails are expensive but to advertise at ยฃ5 and charge ยฃ9 is very wrong

Walked into this bar which had live music, was looking forward to spending time here until we arrived at the bar. Stood for at least 20 minutes and bar staff walked past serving everyone else but us. Was so disgusted we walked out, have a bit of respect for new customers! Definitely wonโt be back.
Be the first to ReplyAwful customer service, totally unwelcoming
Several friends recommended Gellion's to us; however, we regretted going. This was our first trip to Inverness and Gellion's ended up being the worst worst experience by far in the three days we spent in this wonderful city. When ordering our second drink tonight (Thursday), I waited over 15 minutes at the bar leaving my wife at our table. After being overlooked for the third time, I tried to explain to the female bar staff that I had been in the queue longer than the person she was serving. I was not prepared for the angry, irrational tirade that came my way. There was a whole bar to serve and it was impossible to keep track of who was next, I was told. Having worked in a bar for many years, I told her I appreciated that but I had been waiting quite a while and longer than the person she was serving. I asked if she would take my order only to be told that she was too busy. She then went on to ignore me and serve the person that came to the bar after me. I am by no means a shrinking violet, but she was incredibly rude. We decided to leave and go to the Highlander to continue and end our night. While it was more busy than Gellion's, the staff were more than friendly and we didn't have to wait to be served. Won't be rushing to this bar again. However, I can recommend The Highlander if you want a good night and respectful, timeous service.

This is a great pub with live music every day of the week. The pub is always busy with a mixture of people of all ages and it has a great atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyGreat pub!
This is a great pub. Live music. Only drinks. Sometimes standing room only. Friendly crowd. All ages.
Be the first to ReplyMusic every Night
Music every night, fair prices on beer. A crowd that's ready to party. Ignore the sticky floors and enjoy this truly Scottish Pub!
Be the first to ReplyVery Scottish Themed Bar
Being from Boston we really enjoyed the "Ceilidh" in the afternoon! One of our guys plays the pipes or used too, and we enjoyed speaking with "Kenny" the music guy.
Be the first to ReplyGreat night out
Great night out, great beers, staff were very helpful. The performers were great carrying the crowd along singing and dancing. Right good foot tapping music.. Good mix in the crowd, young old tourists like us and locals who knew the performers. One performer was well know and played some amazing music from solo artists to band music such as ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynrd. Much like going into a traditional Irish bar where the Irish pipes, drums and fiddles are going ten to the dozen.

Stumbled in to this lil gem and lets say we found a home. Met a local in full Scottish regala and he took to us Wyo dudes like we did him. The scotch flowed well as did the beer. Rebecca behind the bar was a doll and we will NEVER forget this home away from home
Be the first to ReplyThe most Scottish bar youโll ever enter
Gellionโs is pretty much your average Scottish pub laced with character which has its pros and cons. Drinks are reasonably priced and on a Saturday the place is full of atmosphere.
Toilets are pretty dire with their one saving grace being the whisky condom vending machine thatโll give you a laugh as youโre pattering about in the urine covered floors trying to squeeze in to a urinal. Like I sayโฆ character!
Speaking of characters the staff are generally lovely and attentive with the younger ones seeming happier in their job and a joy to speak to. One older lady in the bar adjacent could give Basil Fawlty a run for his money with her thorny manner and permanent state of existential crisis being more than a little off-putting. Probably best to stick to the main bar.
Great pub but !!!!!
Really like this pub , good singers but the ladies toilets , wow, never smelt anything like it before , glad I had mask on , the toilets themselves are filthy under the rim and at bottom of toilet seat , come on cleaner get a bottle of spray bleach , do the job , really letting the pub down

Be the first to ReplyNowt good to say
People rate this bar quite highly but the night we were in it was just a noisy rabble and the toilets were rank. This was on a Sunday night too. Most of the staff seemed to be in chat mode with themselves and didn't seem to want to work.
Be the first to ReplyAweful staff member. Disgusting toilets.
Decent bar, and music is always good. But on my last visit the place was really let down by the attitude of one member of staff.
Caught short by no loo roll in the gents toiletsโฆ I joked with a lady in the corridor about nipping into the ladies to get some. Only for the staff member to come out and accuse me of being some sort of pervert telling me โdonโt you dare ever try and get into the ladies toiletsโ unbelievable.
When I asked her to resupply the gents toilets with loo roll, she abruptly said she would sort it. What she meant was she would throw the toilet roll onto the pee soaked floor. Rendering it useless and completely disgusting. You have to really wonder why this member of staff had so little respect for customers that she felt the need to take so little care. Would it have been so difficult to load it into the holder??
Just what we needed!
On the suggestion of our guesthouse landlady, we went in looking for live music. We were not disappointed as the excellent and mind blowing Ruairidh MacLean wowed us with his contemporary take on the accordion. The atmosphere was superb, old school, raucous, Scottish craic, with a distinctly cosmopolitan flavour; Americans, English, Spaniards, Danes and Italians all mixing and carousing enthusiastically with locals. Exactly what we hoped and a terrific night!

Rachel served us, we had our GSD and she was absolutely lovely about him being in the bar, even Liam came for a wee clap of the dog. We went to Johnny Foxes, don't go with a dog, very unfriendly indeed. Gellions bar were amazing and the staff are so friendly and they serve fantastic espresso Martinis, thanks Rachel for making us so welcome.
