Wanting to wine down with a cocktail after a long day and
Wanting to wine down with a cocktail after a long day and the bartender said he did last call when we walked in at 11:10pm so he said he could only serve us beer and wine. We grabbed a glass of wine which I didn't mind at all; but it was pass 11:30pm and the bartender started mixing cocktails and taking shots with the party next to us. Being in the service industry you can't pick and choose who to help everyone should be service equally. I was really looking forward to trying the food since we're staying at the Hyatt adjacent to GG Tokyo for 6 nights but now definitely won't be trying it after an unpleasant experience tonight, 3/10/23.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, amazing ambiance.
The service is pretty good too. Can't go wrong. Perfect for a date night.
Be the first to ReplyCute hidden gem between flat iron and Kip's bay.
The food and cocktails were good, but nothing I would rave about. The service was great. I went during the week, and would be interested to see what the crowd is like on a weekend. Great cozy place for a date.

The hostess, server and manager were all very friendly and professional. Very courteous.Very nice vibe, especially in the bar area. I'd possibly consider the bar for a drink (wine or beer) or possibly a small appetizer. Cocktails were served in thimble sized glasses and were weak; Avoid. Dinner? Nyet.Pedestrian quality appetizers and sushi; the equivalent of a standard "Tuesday nite takeout" place. Pork dumplings, soups, sashimi and sushi all disappointed. Even the nice atmosphere couldn't overcome the poor value of the so-so food. The takeout place one block east honestly serves superior quality food. (As an aside, I did not see an Asian employee anywhere in the establishment)Stop by to soak up the bar atmosphere and enjoy a nice glass of wine; that's about it.

First off, this is a below average hotel restaurant & bar. Do not be fooled into thinking GG Tokyo is its own thing. It's not. The food is so boring. The sushi and sashimi don't seem terribly fresh. The rolls were dry. The rice tasted old. The cocktail menu was out of three drinks and there were no oysters left when we sat for dinner at the late hour of 7pm.Our server was a dolt. He didn't know half the menu items and couldn't remember if things were gluten free or contained nuts. It was a comedy of errors over and over. Our sake was served lukewarm. It's supposed to be chilled. Someone put two ice cubes in the chiller. Two tiny ice cubes. What? Food took awhile to come out and then came out wrong twice! We got either the wrong dish or the wrong preparation.GG Tokyo is ***not*** a sushi restaurant. It's not even Japanese. It is a cultural appropriation of Japanese food done in by a corporate approach and a lackluster staff.I'll never eat at this place again and will steer people clear.

Fantastic spot for drinks and dinner! I've been here multiple times with my friends, and I'm glad I didn't check Yelp before going. I'm not sure why this place has 3.5 stars because I think it should have at least 4. The ambiance and service incredible, and the quality of the food and drinks is outstanding. This is my go-to spot for happy hour.

Stumbled into this place by accident and decided to stop in, best decision ever!Happy hour is from 5:30 to 7pm so we definitely wanted to take advantage of that. Cocktails were only $10 in that time frame - an absolutely steal in nyc especially for the quality and service! We tried almost every cocktail and were happy with all of it. Whoever curated the menu did an amazing job! Special shout-out to the golden monkey, that one was our favorite for the night. Will definitely be returning to this place in the future.

Where's Zeddie?! Omg, came here a few months ago and bartender Zeddie made the most amazing drinks. He is a true mixologist. Came back tonight and what happened? Where is he? Don't know why these bartenders aren't creative and only stick to the menu. Get it together, guys. Would love an AMAZING drink right now but I guess I'll sip this.

Cozy/cute interior.Overall: 3.5Service: 4.5Food: 3Drinks: 4Pressed Madai - simply not great... Served as it sound, but quality was a no.Karaage - it's good but also fried chicken is hard to fail. The sampler with Wagyu, Oyster, and Uni was good.

GG Tokyo is a gorgeous restaurant with amazing staff and service but sadly the food is nowhere up to par. Both the pressed sushi felt a bit off. It was as if the rice wasn't properly seasoned and you could not really taste the fish, so it came out extremely bland. The karaage wasn't bad, the batter was light and well seasoned. The ddokbokki was way over cooked and the outside too crispy. The okonomiyaki which is what I came here for (because it is so hard to find okonomiyaki in general), the proportion of the ingredients was off. Too much mayo, too much ramen, and not enough cabbage for my liking. That being said okonomiyaki in general are customizable and I was perhaps spoiled with the ones that have more cabbage in Japan. The staff were great and we were treated very well.
Be the first to ReplyWe really want this place to make it but highly doubtful
We really want this place to make it but highly doubtful based on our experience. First off, the service was excellent. The host was very nice and accommodating. Our Waitress was also very nice, efficient and made our lack luster meal somewhat enjoyable. We started off with a glass of champagne and a martini which were perfect. However, the food was just disappointing when you figure in the cost. I had to clarify that each hand roll was a single order ($22 for an uni handroll). We got a few handrolls and were disappointed as the uni was not fresh (probably the same kind you can buy at the supermarket for $20). However, the nori for the handroll was so soggy. Its supposed to be crunch with a bite but it was soggy and chewy. Very disappointed. We then ordered the tuna tartare. The tuna was so chewy as there was so much connective tissue left. The pieces were still stuck together. The toast was good though and we barely touched the tuna tartare. The pressed sushi was good and the A5 Miyazaki pressed sushi was good. But for the price I wouldn't get it again. Nothing special. All in all our bill came out to $402 before tip. I really was upset at how expensive it was and how mediocre the food was. Hopefully, it was just a off night. But with so many great restuarants in the city I would rather spend $400 somewhere else.

I was referred to this place by an NYC restaurant influencer (@nycfoodsnob on Instagram). Overall a great experience. Love the 90s hip hop soundtrack. Cocktails were a highlight - I tried 3 different ones and they were all delicious. A number of tasty, unique dishes. A couple of standouts were the kara-age and the okonomi-yaki.
Be the first to ReplyGolden Gai in the Shinjuku section of Tokyo is a unique
Golden Gai in the Shinjuku section of Tokyo is a unique spot composed of a network of narrow alleys, connected by even narrower passageways. This is a not-so-secret nightlife section of Tokyo that has existed since the end of WWII. Over 200 tiny shanty-style bars, clubs and eateries are squeezed into Golden Gai. GG Tokyo is a nod towards Golden Gai. Certainly not a shanty, this upscale bar and restaurant is indeed an interesting Japanese nightspot. You can get better Japanese food and cocktails in town so they will really need to up their game if they want to survive as long as the tiny spots in Golden Gai.

The Vibe is really cool in GG along with the food, drinks and service! Great music, atmosphere and environment. Drink menu and food menu both are outstanding but nothing comparable to the service! If you are there for dinner or drinks go and sit in Theda's section she is the best! Super friendly and personable and made our evening even more enjoyable & FUN! Great spot to frequent!

Google maps directed me to the NW corner of 28th and Lexington; the restaurant is adjacent to the Park South Hotel entrance on 28th St, to the right, down a small gray ramp with a wooden door. Two of us ordered:Drinks (all $16, all giving other cocktail bars that charge up to $20 a run for their money):The Golden Monkey - very well balanced. not too sweet, not too egg-white-y, both of which are easily overdone with other egg-white drinks i've had around town. The Mermaid - love the hint of the scotch whisky to gently cut the subtle sweetnessThe Tomodachi - somehow went really well with the matcha ice cream (which was given to us on the house. and great on its own).Food: Food is steep compared to drinks, but not far off from typical covid-era supply chain-issues pricing.Okonomiyaki ($22) - the last few i've had in NYC have all been overbearing with the sauces on top. GG's puts just the right amount of sauce and a generous amount of dancing bonito flakes. Base is crunchy ramen. Definitely solid execution.Sea Bream (pressed sushi) ($25) - not worth it. rice was a overcooked (a bit wet), sea bream tasted like it wasn't seasoned enough/at all. almost non-detectable amount of shiso underneath the sea bream. while i haven't had many oshizushis, the one i had at Rule of Thirds was much better than this one.Marinated Tuna Hand Roll ($16) - not recommended. not sure if done on purpose, but the wasabi within it was concentrated at the very last bite, that nearly blew my sinuses out of me.Spicy Salmon Hand Roll - not recommended. somehow coincidentally, the chopped raw jalapenos? were also not evenly distributed, giving a serious kick at the last bite as well. nori felt like it was just used straight out the package without any toasting, making it harder to bite through.Vibe: As par for recent bars that I've been going to, there was 90s/early 00's hip-hop playing in the background at a reasonable volume. I enjoy hip hop. warm yellow lights.Overall, definitely a valuable addition to the Murray Hill/Kips Bay Lexington ave corridor. Given that they're brand new, I'm definitely looking forward to coming back again, and excited to see how they grow.
