Great Sushi, Non-Traditional Restaurant
This is a very odd and delicious sushi experience in Los Angeles. I booked dinner for my husband's birthday months in advance. The orange restaurant in a strip mall is dilapidated and run down. There is not much of a menu, and we were asked what we wanted. My husband asked "what's good today?" and the reply was "everything here is good." There were no prices, so we just sort of did our best and ordered some items. Everything was AMAZING. There were two other sets of people at the restaurant, one seemed to be a regular that was getting omakase and then another couple. One woman walked in and was told you had to have a reservation. Overall, sort of a strange restaurant experience and some of the best sushi in the city.

Located in a non-descript mall in Canoga Park, look for unit C-12. Small counter area (8 seats I think) or take out, with only fresh fish selected from the fishmarket that morning by the chef and his wife, all tastefully presented by the sushi chef. No alcohol here but the green tea is very good. Hard to say what the cost for each type of fish on feature will be as prices are not listed. Four of us, one being a 12 year old, spent $256us and we all left hungry - we had 4 pieces of fish and 4 pieces of maki each. Maybe we picked the expensive fish? The abolone was nice as was the smoked trout. The rule here... do not ask for soy sauce - you will upset the chef, the flavours and frankly you do not need it for this. The food is excellent and next time I will go with my wife and I and splurge out, but to take a family as well, you might find it a bit cost prohibitive. Still happy we know of this place. We live in Vancouver where sushi is much cheaper and wer have excellent hi standare sushi places and world re-knowned sushi chefs (Tojo for one) that are just as good, so I guess we were a little surprised the prices were so high. Only selecting that this was fine dining as the prices are high.

I haven't been able to find another sushi restaurant to compare. This place is pricey but we'll worth the experience. Sushi is priced per piece.

This little gem found located in a strip mall in the San Fernando Valley, is a sleeper of all restaurants. The ambiance is quite lacking with bare walls, 4 small tables and a sushi bar that seats roughly 8 people. There is a written board with the Japanese name of the daily fish that they have and that's about it. For those that frequent the joint, they know it's the sushi and they way the chef prepares each fish, is what keeps them coming back. The one sushi chef and 2 helpers know how to bring the most flavor out of the fish with different toppings like truffle oil and lemon zest, to name a couple. Each fish is uniquely prepared and always fresh! I took of 1 star because for me, it is quite pricey. 1 piece of sushi ranges from $3.50 for the simple tuna and salmon, but if you chose from the written board, expect to pay $8-$20 for 1 piece, not 1 order. With that said, this is a place where I come to treat myself, a couple times a year.

I adore Go's Mart. I've been here numerous times. Why not 5 stars? I think because the sushi chef feels the need to decorate his wonderful fish with truffle oil. I think I finally understood why this restaurant is FAB but not PERFECT. I have no complaints on the quality of the fish, the presentation, the staff or the decor. I just wished that the sushi chef allowed the fish to breathe and be enjoyed in a more "traditional" way. Aside from that one "complaint".... it's definitely a place to experience.

Stopped in for a solo lunch. Small strip mall location with a sushi bar and a few tables. The atmosphere is plain but the food is artistic, top quality and very fair cost for what comes to your plate. I can best describe it as "alive" with freshness and flavors that make you pause- wow. I never upload pics but this was a special visit. Will be back again and again.

Friends had been raving so we went. This is an unheard of, nondescript 9-seat sushi bar restaurant with an additional 2 small tables. Very eccentric. We loved it. No ambiance. No identifying signage outside. One has to be seeking it to find it. No reservations and no alcohol. Open from 5:30 to 9 PM. Can order Omakase or ala carte. No formal menu, just names of fishes on a whiteboard, no prices listed. Some courses not on the board but available. The dishes are incredibly tasty and delicate--some served with edible gold leaf, sea salt, Osetra caviar, or truffle oil, and the plating is delightfully artistic.. But its mostly about the fish--fresh and fresher. Reminded me of Sushi Dai in the Tsukiji Market (Tokyo Fish Market). Yes that level of freshness. and its worth the travel and the price which is not inconsequential. Several days later, we're still raving about our meal.Oh, and Chef Go (is that really his name?) is a pleasant gentleman:-)
