My wife and I are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary
My wife and I are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary today, and our children took us to brunch here. A beautiful room, spot-on service, friendly folks from the hostess to the server to the runner, and large and excellent servings. We ordered (and shared parts of) a smoked-salmon Benedict, a smoked ham Benedict, and an order of French toast with whipped cream, maple syrup, and candied walnuts. Absolutely 5 stars in every way. If and when I'm back in Sacramento I will certainly return here.
Be the first to ReplyRemarkable food, service, and ambiance.
I could live off their bread and butter alone, and the bill arrived with complimentary house made chocolates.
Be the first to ReplyWent to this place for lunch and also for dinner.
We enjoyed everything we ordered, the food was fresh and well prepared and the service was good! The place is clean and the ambiance is pretty fancy! My only issue is the restroom, located at the basement of the hotel so a little dark and creepy.
Be the first to ReplyBread and butter was delicious.
We ordered the Dry Aged Flannery New York and it was so scrumptious that I wished I had ordered the same meal. I thought the Olive Oil Poached California Halibut was okay. I enjoyed my Mocktail which was the Persephone drink and my husband thought his Old Fashion was nice and strong. Dessert was definitely my favorite part of dinner. My husband went overboard and ordered the Passionfruit sorbet, double chocolate chip gelato, Moscato d'Asti, and the Carrot Cake with Brown Butter Gelato. We were complimented caramel chocolates upon our receipt.
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunate and over priced Valentine dinner.
We were in complete disbelief as we were served five of the worst courses of food from a restaurant boasting two Michelin stars. The courses were poorly designed and the food was low quality, unseasoned and cold in every course. For example, a slab of fried, unseasoned thick potato starch was served after potato gnochi. The service wasn't much better.I do not accept any excuses as most good restaurants have reservations and/or lines of people waiting to get in. The fact is they had a set menu for a known number of people, so no excuses.

I was a little surprised on how our experience went yesterday at the Grange. The restaurant has beautiful decor throughout but everything else was not worth it. We got our drinks order in 15 mins after we sat down and then they did not come out for another 30 mins which in that time, our food came out 5 mins after we got our drinks. The waitress never came and checked on us or if we wanted to order and other drinks the whole time we were there. All menu items are $18 and up so I'm expecting a great dish with. I shared the chilaquiles and it was pretty much chips smothered green salsa (soggy chips) with a cold egg on top so I was pretty disappointed. Majority got the burger which everyone did like so would recommend.

We live and work in the Bay area, but spent the night at the Citizen hotel in Sacramento to see the Kings game. The hotel houses this restaurant. The game started at 7pm. Dinner service starts at 5:30pm at the Grange. They also serve 'small bites' before that. Since we wanted to arrive at the stadium before 7pm, we opted to take advantage of the small bites menu instead of waiting until 5:30 for dinner service. What happened next was a huge disappointment. We walked into the Grange ( my husband, my son and me.) The head bartender, ( not sure of his name, but he was tall with a beard) said this to us as we walked in: " Dinner does not start until 5:30 today." This was the greeting we received from the bearded bartender. We told him we were there for small bites, not dinner, and he told us to sit down. First of all, who greets paying customers in this fashion? What about, " Hi, welcome to the Grange, table for 3? Thanks for dining here today. Just to let you know dinner's at 5:30 but we do serve casual small bites before. " In what universe is it acceptable for a patron to be (not) greeted in such a way? What possible reason would he have had to speak this way to guests? If I was the owner of this restaurant, I would fire this employee right away. How many customers (and money) will you forfeit due to a miserable bartender/host?Next, he seated us and took our order. He was gruff and unpleasant. 30 minutes later, our food had not arrived . What's worse was that nobody came around to ask if we wanted another glass of wine or more water when our glasses were empty. When we asked about the food, we were told the food order had not been started yet due to it being " mid-shift." So, although the gruff bartender took our order, he failed to be sure it was even started. In another words, he didn't check on the order or us. Granted, he had bar customers to take care of. But it's his job to also be sure others seated in the bar area, are tended to. And, it was clear, he didn't give two hoots about us. Thankfully, another server came over to help us. The guests seated next to us actually waved her over to assist us. The food eventually came out ( 45 minutes AFTER we had arrived) and consideration was given on the bill. Thank you to her. ( never got her name.)I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a civil greeting by a host upon entering a restaurant. And I also don't think it's unreasonable to expect SOME service especially given the fact that our food order had not even been submitted. The people who arrived later beside us received their food before we did and finished their meal before ours even arrived. I also know and appreciate that everyone makes mistakes. I'm cool with that. But at the very least, if that's the case and someone messed up, then let us know. So much better than just ignoring us the whole time.To the bearded miserable bartender: you lost out on a massive tip. If you hate customers that much, then you should probably look for a different job.
Be the first to ReplyWe were disappointed with our dinner experience here last
We were disappointed with our dinner experience here last night. We were just about done with our salad before my wife's drink arrived - a lemon drop, nothing fancy but it took forever. Spaghetti dish was boring, and was served with shrimp shells and tails still attached. I normally expect the kitchen to fully prepare the meal - that's why we pay to eat out. But I had to dig in with my hands in the pasta to extract the shrimp shells and tails from the shrimp. The 'sauce' was nothing but a very light salty butter - was supposedly 'Uni butter' but was just boring. I can make a butter sauce with spaghetti at home. I think it was $35. My wife's Branzino was more than $50 for just an average fish dish. We won't be returning.
Be the first to ReplyStayed at the Citizen hotel for a few nights and ended up
Stayed at the Citizen hotel for a few nights and ended up stopping by for dinner with some coworkers. The food, service and drink options were great. We started off with some appetizers. The smoked salmon tasted a little fishy for my liking, but I did really enjoy the artichoke dip and the fried broccoli. Highly recommend it! For my entree, I opted for a burger from the bar bites section and it was cooked perfectly. The burger was just missing some sort of sauce that would've taken it to the next level. For dessert I ordered the carrot cake, which was extremely moist and flavorful. What made the service so great was when my coworker had to step away for a call right when the entrees arrived. Instead of letting her entree sit there and get cold, the waiter waited to bring it out once she arrived in hopes it was kept warm in the kitchen. Now that's what you call service! Overall the experience was great and I'd definitely return!

Terrific place if you're looking for a bit of an upscale night out! Came for our anniversary and enjoyed flavorful cocktails, savory entrees (the mushroom risotto was one for the books), and a tasty mango dessert. Still one of our favorite meals in Sacramento. Highly recommend
Be the first to ReplyFood was outstanding.
Pricey but it was tasty!! Staff is very friendly and assisted is all questions. One of the best meals I have had is a long time!! Drinks are super pricey but have some flair!!The tuna as the starter was amazing. Grilled branzino was amazing. It is basically like Chilean Sea Bass!! Then the chocolate tart was outstanding!!

Opening in 2008 in the iconic Citizen Hotel, the Grange has solidified its place as one of Sacramento's best dining experiences.Food - Led by Michelin-starred chef Dane Blom there are many things to like about this menu. The California Modern American cuisine spares no expense, offering high quality organic ingredients. The King Salmon and Vande Rose Pork Chop were excellent. Both were incredibly flavorful and complemented with the perfect garnishes. Most of the dinner entrees are in the $40-$50 range but it's well worth it.Ambience - Located in the heart of Sacramento on J Street, the Grange exudes the cities rich history. The space itself is absolutely stunning with high vaulted ceilings, orange leather sofas and a private room overlooking the first floor. The restaurants draws a high profile crowd but is also a great option for special occasions.Service - Stopped in before the Kings game the other night and was half expecting that we may miss the start of the game. But they got us in and out of there with plenty of time to spare. The waiter was professional, friendly and ensured that our food was prepared promptly.

Friendly staff and better than average avocado toast. it's pricey ($19!) but huge. Half a baguette topped with hummus, avocado, and two perfectly poached eggs. Served with a side salad of fresh greens and an OK dressing. Not bad if you want something convenient without leaving the hotel.
Be the first to ReplyI've always wanted to try The Grange, and as my boyfriend
I've always wanted to try The Grange, and as my boyfriend and I were walking through downtown, we saw that they had bar seating open but we could order from the main restaurant as well! This was a better experience for us as we also got to try food from the Bar Bites as well. I personally like to get a lot of small orders and share those so I can try more things (think tapas). What I love about these type of restaurants is the changing seasonal menus that makes it exciting to come back to these restaurants to try whatever new creation they come up withWe ordered:- The Shrimp Toast: 4/5 A bit greasy and the salad it comes with looks haphazardly put together, not sure how cohesive it is as a dish but very tasty.- Ciccioli: 2/5 It's toasted bread with pickles and duck fat, but it's more so a block of duck fat. Again, really tasty, but there's nothing bringing the dish together. The block of duck fat was really rich but probably but the most appealing to eat.- Ricotta Agnolotti: 5/5 The kale was crisp to perfection and the oxtail in the agnolotti was so rich and flavorful!- Hamachi Crudo: 4/5 Refreshing with the yuzu sauce and the fish was fresh, though I would have preferred a thinner slices.
Be the first to ReplyThe Grange offers elegant midtown dining.
Small but excellent menu and an attentive staff. The butternut squash soup with a cognac cream, lobster bites and brown sage is amazing!
Be the first to ReplyAvocado toast has hummus and paired with a side salad.
Eggs Benedict comes with the perfect runny egg. Over all good service.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food.
I had the pork chop and my wife had the filet mignon. Normally she shares a few bites with me but it was so good, she said no.
Be the first to ReplyFood is just okay.
Ordered a burger and chicken sandwich which was over dressed and almost inedible. Burger came out wrong and it was taken back with the egg scraped off and re-served. Bloody Mary was not very good either. Staff is nice though
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunately, Grange is not participating in Dine Downtown
Unfortunately, Grange is not participating in Dine Downtown Restaurant Week this year, but I have been in the past for that special 3-course menu, business lunches, and a holiday party held at the Citizen. They have valet, street parking, public garages nearby as options if driving in. We had some folks staying at the Kimpton so it was walkable for them.Came in for a 6:15 PM reservation business dinner, party of 10, seated right away in the back private room with the glass sliding doors, interesting mural, and view of the kitchen on one side. Francisco was our server and did a wonderful job for the evening. The most popular items from the starters menu according to Francisco were the Pork Belly and Scallops, and the Hamachi [Tuna] Crudo. The top three entrees were the Grilled New York [Steak], the Grilled Black Cod, and the White Truffle Spaghetti. Other starters to pick from were a butternut squash soup, escarole salad, burrata salad, or caviar. Your remaining options for entrees were a Niman Ranch pork chop, King Salmon, Crusted Ahi Tuna, Chanterelle mushroom risotto. The special for the night was an 11-ounce filet mignon. I decided on the Butternut Squash soup (with lobster), the special Filet Mignon entree, the Banana Cream Pie dessert, and a glass of the 2020 DAOU Rosé (Paso Robles). Bread and butter were also provided, sparkling and still water for the entire table too. I love the presentation/serving of the soup, poured tableside into the bowl. This had lobster, puffed wild rice, cognac cream, and brown butter and was very good. My medium-rare filet came with a potato side, spinach, and bordelaise sauce, so tender. Others in the group ordered the pork belly and scallops, salmon, cod, risotto, and the steak. My one colleague went all-out and ordered both the Grilled New York (14oz.) AND the Filet Mignon (11oz.) on the same platter. Turns out that someone in the kitchen bet against our server Francisco that our guy would/wouldn't be able to finish them both...I witnessed it, you'd best believe that he did eat it all, and still had room for dessert. The dessert menu offered a polenta cake (pear), yuzu white chocolate mousse (almond, mango), banana cream pie, and assorted gelato and sorbets. I had the banana cream pie which came with coconut ice cream. This was a decently sized wedge/slice, a tart-like crust, not too sweet. The crushed banana chips under the coconut ice cream were a nice touch. I like that their seasonal menu is farm-to-fork, local, and fresh. Since we had a private room it wasn't too loud, and the staff even obliged and took some group photos for us after the meal for the visiting out-of-towners. Overall a nice night, taken care of well, delicious food and a great experience.
