Nothing was amazing, and honestly could have used some more flavor. The kalbi kkochi was really in need of a sauce or something, and the rest of the dishes were not bad but not standout. For the price, I think this wasn't that worth it. The best dish of the night was the sesame creme brulee - strong sesame flavor and delicious custard

Everything was cooked pretty well I think? Unfortunately I can't think of any memorable dishes and whether or not I particularly enjoyed it or not. I do remember not liking the cocktails though. Given all the different restaurants to try in NY, I would probably not go again. The ambiance was also really dark and felt very cramped.

Had a dinner here with my girlfriends and we had a wonderful time. This is a lovely Korean spot in Park Slope. We had made reservation, which I def recommendd because this place got packed! We were in the area a bit early so we hung out by the bar for some drinks until our table was ready. We each had the school girl cocktail which was good, tasted mostly of prosecco with a hint of lychee flavor, just kind of wished the lychee had a stronger flavor. The staff was so accomodating and nice. Loved the vibe and ambiance inside the restaurant. It was dimlit, very cozy and romantic. We started with some small plates to share. The watercress salad, was amazing. I'm actually not a fan of watercress, but the dressing was so good I couldn't stop eating the salad. I need the recipe for the dressing cuz wow it's so good. The scallion pancake and the Dukboki fundido were all delicous as well. For entrees, I ordered Kalbi jji, the meat was tender and it was very flavorful. My friends ordered the Bulgogi and the Maine uni bibimbop. I will say the entrees are not so big but between our entrees and appetizers we were stuffed. We all very much enjoyed our meals. The only thing to note is that it is a little bit on the pricer end, but it's totally worth for a nice dinner out. The food was amazing, and would definitely come back to try their other dishes.

TL;DR: Haenyeo is one of the best Korean restaurants in NYC Went a couple of weeks ago with friends and had an amazing time. Vibes, food, ambiance: all immaculate. Featuring arguably the best galbi-jjim in NYC with cocktails rivaling the esteemed branches from Angel's Share (e.g, Double Chicken, Sip and Guzzle); to top it all off, the story of this restaurant--the pioneering mother-daughter duo who fought against all odds to make it as Korean proprietors back when Korean restaurants were reviewed as alien, the incredibly warm and hospitable maitre'd/husband, Terrence, with his screenwriting roots (the delightful easter eggs like the pseudo-movie posters in the basement attest to this first love--makes it impossible not to fall in love with this place.

My always favorite , Dukboki fundido and crispy chicken. unfortunately the dukboki is not a main entree anymore only a small plate appetizer

Elevated Americanized Korean food- definitely on the pricier side so bookmark this place for a nice date night or a special occasion. We made our reservation via Resy- good thing we did, because this place fills up fast. We were seated at an outdoor table (don't worry, you will be super toasty- the heat lamps are very effective) and scanned the QR code for the menu. For drinks, my husband ordered the The Squid and the Whale (a tasty sesame oil flavored savory cocktail- we felt it would go well with some rice...!) and I got the School Girl Cocktail (aka alcoholic lychee/grape juice - yum!) The other cocktails sounded interesting too (some using rhubarb bitters, jalapeรฑo infused tequila..! Nice!) For our apps, we ordered the oysters (served with brioche toast and topped with seaweed butter) and the Dukboki fundido (a happy marriage of Mexican+Korean cuisine, spicy rice cakes in the red pepper sauce with a blanket of Oaxaca cheese and chorizo). The oysters you can skip- it's 4 small oysters and was very much what you'd expect. The dukboki is a must- the cheese and chorizo went so well with the spicy sauce, we made sure to scrap the bowl clean. For our entrees, we shared the Spanish mackerel (grilled with a nice crispy skin, served with toasted seaweed and alfalfa sprouts/gochujang sauce) and the spicy squid bibimbap. The mackerel was super simple but just SO good, the quality of the fish was fantastic. Wrap that baby up in seaweed with some sauce/sprouts and rice (it comes with a bowl of rice). The spicy squid bibimbap was so tasty as well (and a treat for the eyes!) We made sure we had room in our stomachs for dessert- sesame creme brรปlรฉe and cinnamon sugar beignets! Really nice way to end the meal. Service was friendly and attentive (our server was great!)
Be the first to ReplyReally liked this spot when it first opened.
Really disappointed years later. We sat at 8:15 to find they were out of all the fish entrees and the only light beer on the menu because they "were really crowded earlier". It was everything we wanted to order so we left. When we told them why we were leaving three employees all just nodded their heads and said, "yeah". Rough for a self-proclaimed high end seafood restaurant. Not what it used to be I guess.

I heard really great things about Haenyeo so ultimately I was expecting a little more. The ambiance is super cozy inside and lit by candles so it's dark and intimate. We had a reservation at 615 and shared the japchae and the watercress salad as appetizers. I liked both of these dishes but I was disappointed by the entrees. My husband and I got the tofu bibimbop and tofu chigae and unfortunately both dishes were really bland. Thankfully they bought out a little plate of kimchi and two other plates of banchan. The kimchi saved the bibimbop by adding some flavor. I expected the chigae to be spicy because it explicitly says so but it was actually sour and not at all spicy, no kick no heat. You're paying for a more upscale dining and I'm not sure it was worth it.

Service was terrible to even sit. Manager was aggressive
Be the first to ReplyThis place was okay.
Dishes weren't that memorable and pretty expensive. Definitely better Korean restaurants out there doing out of the box stuff (Her Name is Han I do remember the Dukboki which was overly salty - could have used a piece of bread or rice to soak up the sauce/mellow it out a bit.

Homophobic with rotting foodWhen I went went to Haenyo with my boyfriend last night we were kicked out of our seats by the host. We had made a reservation and weren't finished with our meal but they made us, an interracial gay couple leave for a party of older white people. When I brought this up to the host he had the audacity to say I was being difficult. He then told us that we were moved because people earlier in the night had decided to change their reservation to sit inside and we had to deal with the consequences of the restaurant's poor planning. In addition, the last time we went to this restaurant we were served rotting seafood. There are plenty of other good restaurants in the neighborhood, choose any of them instead of this terribly managed place. If you want Korean food, go to insa 6 blocks away. The owners should be ashamed that they hired a host that would treat their guests so poorly.I'm guessing this wouldn't have happened if we were a straight white couple.
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is SO GOOD.
Portions not overwhelming and overly large, very complex and delicate flavors. The sable fish had a wonderfully crispy surface and flaky soft inside. The dukboki super cheesy and spicy, amazing. Cocktails also very good! The rose gin based one was very strong. It was very crowded and busy but servers were very friendly. The space is small and rustic with representative art on the wall. So lovely and want to come again!

My daughter invite me to have Dinner in these beautiful and small place. Service was immediately present. So drinks and water was always available. The food was delicious and very seasoned, in the way that really like it. Though this a little pricey is totally worth trying. Just really enjoy the ambience and the food. I will like to come back when I have the chance

Thought the food was slightly overpriced for the portions but high quality. Good ambiance and attentive service.
Be the first to ReplyJust ate here last night.
We had: fluke crudo (delish) glass noodles (delish) bulgogi (delish) and the whole fish DELISH!I had two spicy margaritas and my one quibble would be that the cocktail menu was limited with too many drinks featuring egg white (three.) I'd like to see the cocktail menu revamped and the pour should be a bit more generous-- I might be old fashioned by $16 seems high for a small-ish cocktail. Service was good, and it wasn't too noisy. We will go back!
Be the first to ReplyI'm not sure why this place has four stars.
Our server was super attentive and accommodating but other then that, i don't think i would ever come back. Our experience started off with a bad start when we sat down at our table and the table was dirty and had food crumbs. We said something and they cleaned it right away. Ordered a glass of wine and it had something stuck on the inside of the glass. They quickly gave us another glass but the second glass was dirty too. Gross. The first glass being dirty i can understand, mistakes happen but the second glass should have most definitely been clean. On top of that one of the spoons has food residue on it. Dirty table, dirty glass, dirty utensils. We got there at 7:35 and ordered around 7:45 but our first appetizer came out at 8:20 and our second appetizer the ddukboki ten minutes later. Our main entrees which was the duck and hwedup bap came at 8:40. Almost an hour after we placed the order. Not only did we wait forever for our food but it sucked because it wasn't even worth the wait. We ordered the grilled oysters, ddukboki, duck breast, and hwe dup bap. The oysters were yummy but nothing special just buttered grilled oysters. $24 which i think was overpriced but nonetheless yummy. The ddukboki was interesting. As a Korean, I've tried many ddukbokis and i really enjoyed the different twist on it. However, it was way too salty. I had high expectations for this place but the main courses were really disappointing. The duck was nothing special. It was very basic and plain. Same goes for the hwe dup bap. So overpriced for what it is. Our server was very accommodating and spoke to the manager for us. They took off the glass of wine but which we appreciate but for a $150, NO THANK YOU. Dirty. Overpriced. Inconsistent. Disappointing.

Can't wait to go back and explore the rest of the menu. And SO blissfully QUIET.
Be the first to ReplyCelebrated New Years Eve here with a part of four.
As a Korean-American, I did have some apprehension that this place would be too "fusion" and not authentic Korean food, but it was really really good. My wife and I were seated early as we waited for the rest of the party - nice plus. We both got the jalapeรฑo margarita and it was delicious. I almost never get more than one cocktail but I ended up getting a second as did everyone else as the table. We shared apps and main dishes. The grilled oysters, man those were really good. The ddukboki, other than having chorizo sausage, tasted just like a typical good Korean restaurant. The sausage itself was good too (just that I'm more used to slices of spam or hot dog). For the mains, the hwe dup bap (raw fish rice bowl) was very good, and the Korean BBQ (one pork, one beef) was delicious as well. The ambience inside is gorgeous. Low lighting but able to see easily. And our server was super-nice, friendly but not intrusive at all. I get why this place is so popular. I've had a couple of people ask me if I've been here before. I can now happily say yes and approve.

Place was delicious! Ordered the Uni Bimibop, Sablefish, and Yache Pajun. The fish was very flavorful, the Bimibop was a much smaller portion then I expected but still very delicious, and the Yache was very delicious and a great portion size as an app or part of your entree. You need at least a 3 entree plates for two people if sharing. Great spot for Park Slope. Sat in the winter cabin which is heated and would sit there again as it was so cozy and much quieter and seems a tad more spacious then inside. Def get a reservation in advance as they get packed pretty quickly on the weekends.
Be the first to ReplyWe had been wanting to try this place for a while.
Sadly it did not live up to the hype. We sat and waited for our server for 10 min and then another 10 min for our drinks. The 6 oysters for $24 weren't that good, with an overpowering sweet sauce already on top. The cocktails were only decent and $16 each. The bouillabaisse ($36) was terrible. The sauce had zero flavor and zero spice. It didn't even taste like the seafood. It was as if someone poured a glass of water into it right as they brought it to the table. But no one ever asked how anything was, and we just sat there waiting for it all to be over. $200 later and we are still hungry. Stay away.

Can't say enough about my the creative food / drink menu and excellent service here. Top neighborhood spot. Come with a party of four or more and share.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is good and the drinks are good.
However they have a ridiculous policy that even if you do outdoor dining (you sit outside in your own bubble) you are NOT allowed to have your pet dog with you. Because A Customer had a dog allergy reason and therefor no one is allowed to dine outdoor with their pets. I'm sorry but shouldn't that person SIT INDOOR instead? Why didn't you enforce that person to sit indoor? And for this reason, I will never ever go back to this restaurant anymore. Frankly ridiculous!

Beautiful outdoor seating with your own private little booth on Carroll street. So warm. Food is delicious particularly love the wings, have come back multiple times for them. Drinks are great, appetizers are delicious and entrees are sized well so you don't leave super stuffed. Great vibes all around.

As a big fan of Korean cuisine, I was extremely excited to stop in here after just one look at the menu. It looked to fuse traditional Korean cuisine with some really Interesting fusion, so I ordered as much as I could. Sharing a bunch of different things is definitely the move here, the more the merrier. I'll have to come back to try the things I didn't get to sample, but to start, the dumplings were perfectly fried and delicious, not the least bit greasy. The scallion pancake dish was also really well fried, flavorful, had a nice crunch from the zucchini and the perfect amount of spice. The real star of the appetizers was the Dukboki fundido, which was this deliciously cheesy dip with rice cakes and chorizo. There was a perfect amount of spice, the texture of the rice cakes was perfect and the cheese was just perfection.I went a bit more traditional with my main course with the Bulgogi. The bbq flavor was fantastic, the meat was so tender, It was definitely one of the better bulgogis i've ever had. Needless to say, I'll definitely be coming back for more. One additional note - definitely try a cocktail! They're so fun, creative and delicious, you won't regret it.
