I live 45 minutes away and first time here and they have gone above and beyond to make sure our experience was a 5 star experience. We had the best duck we have ever had out of Miami and Orlando but this place beats all of them. We had the pleasure of meeting the chef and the wife while having a great service with the staff. We sat outside and if was a beautiful night to be outside. And again. Best whole duck ever!!
Be the first to ReplyWe had a great experience at Hales.
We turned our evening over to our server Gabby and she delivered such a great selection. Chef Hale insists on a good wine list, which I endorse! Hales will be a must do when we are in the area.

I am from New York City, where we have I believe the best restaurants in the world. However, once I visited Hales Blackbrick I was hooked. The ambience is beautiful, elegant, eclectic. What made me decide to be a frequent visitor is the service. Chef Hales actually takes time out to visit each table and fellowship with the diners. Taylor is the most beautiful, caring professional who makes sure that our needs are meet. Today I went for my daughter Elizabeth's birthday, and Steve was absolutely wonderful. Then Ryan took over and he blew me away. Definitely, our visit on March 30, 2024 is the beginning of many more to come. If you want elegance, courteous service, not to mention the best Asian food this side of town, come out and visit. You will not be sorry.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a very cool restaurant located in Tampa.
It's advertised as elevated Asian cuisine. Chef Richard Hales has had culinary training throughout the world. He's brought this food expertise and knowledge to his restaurant in Tampa. It's a nicely decorated restaurant with a large center focused bar and dining room. There's valet parking and self parking available. We had a reservation on a Thursday night and were sat right on time. They have an excellent and extensive wine list as well as craft cocktails and local beers. We started with the dumpling tower and the Char Siu pork belly. The pork belly was outstanding. I had the Prime ribeye Florida pineapple stir fry which had good flavor. My steak was a little overdone, which is probably hard to control in a stir fry but otherwise it was very tasty. Very nice experience at this restaurant. Our server was great and is also a very talented singer as she sang happy birthday to two other guests beautifully.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a great experience on Saturday night, March 24, 2024.
Our server, Gabi, gave us great recommendations, and was super friendly and attentive. We started with the dumpling tower and our favorite was the shrimp dumpling. We then had the amazing pork belly.... Maybe the best I have ever had. Cooked to perfection with great flavor. The star of the show was the duck, and we would get it again. It was sliced in the back and brought out with pancakes and sides. The duck thighs were cooked with green beans and a phenomenal sauce. That was my favorite part of the entire dinner. Chef Richard Hale checks in with each party, which was a nice touch. We look forward to our next visit!
Be the first to ReplyThis review I thought was going to be a lot lower.
BUT I stayed the course and it definitely had tons of flavor with the excellent service. The review started off with the appetizer $7.00 Egg Roll. It wasn't good at all. It actually made me laugh. This was of course after ordering a full course meal. So I was concerned. Next had xao long bao, bomb. Then lamb and cumin Shu Mai, bomb. The another dumpling I cannot name, bomb. Everything else that came out was good. The dan dan noodles was a little weird due to the noodles being hallowed out, but it worked. Good. But that egg roll.... Add some cabbage, shredded carrot and I think it would do the trick. All in all. 5 stars. I'm from seattle and eat an Asian cuisines and this place is good. Oh the other dumpling with sticky rice from an order called the Black Tower. Bomb.

The Peking duck was well prepared, and the presentation made it easy to share. Dimsun was great. Have to try all of them sometime. The Brussels sprouts were excellent.

We love this place!! We go there at least a few times a month and every time that we go we bring new friends that haven't experienced the place yet and they all love it. The food is so flavorful and fresh, so many different textures and flavors. So many options on the menu that it's hard to decide what to get. And we have our favorites so we always want to have one or two of those also. The service is always amazing from the owners to the wait staff, the helpers, bartenders and more. We always are welcomed with open arms. If you haven't tried it yet you must go!!
Be the first to ReplyService was great.
Food was even better. We had the duck and fried rice and lamb dumplings

Last night my daughter gave me a Birthday Dinner at Hales Blackbrick. When I tell this is maybe the Best Restaurant in Tampa, words don't do it justice. This restaurant runs like a "fine Swiss Watch". You have to try it. We tried a good portion of the menu and every course was as wonderful. We had the egg rolls, the dumpling tower with 4 different varieties, the pork belly, the squid, the fried chicken, the wonderful Dan Dan noodles and don't miss the fantastic fried rice. For dessert we had an assortment of ice creams which were also fantastic. The service was impeccable and the food flowed in quickly and smoothly. This is truly a hidden gem in Tampa. Make sure you make a reservation. It gets packed. You won't be disappointed.

We dined at Hales Blackbrick this evening with another couple. We tried several appetizers including the egg roll, dumpling tower, and green beans. The egg roll was cooked perfectly and the green beans were extremely flavorful. However, the dumplings were very disappointing. Honestly, the soup dumplings from Trader Joe's taste better and fresher. For entrees we had the Dan Dan Noodles, Truffle Rice, Fried chicken, Pork belly, and Ribeye. Both the noodles and rice were excessively oily and lacked flavor. The fried chicken was crispy but also lacked flavor. The pork belly and ribeye were decent, but not worth the price. We had a great waiter and the food came out very quickly. All in all, we will not be returning due to the excessive prices and the lack of flavor in the majority of the dishes we tried. 3/4: Updated review in response to the General Manager of Hales Blackbrick The manager at this restaurant clearly doesn't know how to run a kitchen nor does he have any idea how to accept constructive criticism. Instead of thanking a customer for their review, he decides to go on a tangent about Trader Joe's dumplings. My boyfriend and the other couple we came to dinner with at your establishment were all sick from your food for two days. I'd rather roll the dice with the Trader Joe's dumplings than eat your salty, oily, flavorless food. Everyone, please save your money and go a mile south down the road to Yummy House. The food is much better for a fraction of the cost.

Food: Black brick tower: 6 pieces of pretty tasty steamed siu mai 8/10. White truffle sticky rice: rice was warm and soft but the truffle oil didn't work for me. I'm used to sticky rice with Chinese sausage, mushroom, chicken, etc. I get that it's fusion but this one sadly missed the mark for me. But if you're a truffle lover, then you might enjoy it. 4/10 Xiao long bao: surprisingly good and juicy. Still not like anything you'll see in Flushing, NY but I'd definitely order again. 7.5/10 Egg rolls: theyre different and not like your average Chinese eggroll with veggies, shrimp and meat. This one has ground meat, shrimp and a sprinkle of green beans. My husband likes it because he doesn't eat veggies. I personally prefer traditional egg rolls but i wouldn't say no to these. 7/10 Cha siu pork belly: let me start off by saying ive ordered this dish several times and will continue to do so because it's super tasty. That being said, it's missing a few key components of Chinese cha siu. The bright red color, stickiness and sweetness of cha siu. In addition to that, the thickness is a bit too much for me so I always request mine thinner. 8/10 Florida gator: nothing negative to say about this dish. Sauce was good. Gator was nice and crispy. 8.5/10 Dan Dan noodles: I have mixed feelings about this version of Dan Dan noodles. Tasty and generous amount of meat and peanuts. I just have one question. Why bucatini? It's chewy and weird. 6.5/10 White rice: I found the rice to be too mushy the last two visits so that was disappointing. 6/10 Key lime pie: it was good but so tiny!!!! Service: excellent Ambiance: crowded but manageable
Be the first to ReplyFirst of all, I really do not enjoy giving a restaurant a
First of all, I really do not enjoy giving a restaurant a less than good review, notice I did not say bad. Saying that the only reason it's less than good is because my first course came out after my second course, therefore leading me to believe that the service is not properly trained. I guess there's two things the food was only good provided the sauces were great. Otherwise the dim sum was average and the ribs were OK. I didn't go for the main entrée just because I wasn't impressed with the first two courses. It's a shame, because I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant that I've heard very good things about. However, the ambience of the restaurant and the music were excellent. I probably will not be returning. Also do not not try this place based on my review. I have 30+ years working in the restaurant business. Therefore, my pallet is a little on the nose and somewhat particular side.

Great food, drinks and service.Have had a couple of friends eat here now and they loved it too.

Amazing dishes!!! My friend heard a lot of great things about this place, so she invited us out to dinner last night and we were not disappointed. We had reservations and were greeted and seated immediately. Our server, Taylor, was amazing as were the dishes we ordered. We had the Eggplant, Cabbage, Mushrooms, Dan Dan Bucatini, Young Chicken Bucatini, Yangzhou Fried Rice and the Hawaiin Ribeye. A lot of food and a lot of leftovers to take home, but we wanted to try as many dishes as possible. Our absolute favorites were the fried rice and ribeye. All the veggies were great. The noodle dishes were really good, but compared to the rest of the food, I would say they were the weakest of all the dishes. I've read some negative comments about the decor, but we were seated at a table near the back and I felt the ambiance was nice. The chef came by our table, which is always a nice touch. We will definitely be back.

Where do I start? Upon being seated, there was a hair on a member of our dinner party's plate. Followed by an inconsistent meal: fried rice and green beans are excellent; chicken bucatini and kung pao shrimp dishes were oily salt bombs; lamb dumplings are a deconstructed disgrace (slippery, tough to get wrapper and protein in one bite, and in our case, there was cartilage that made it impossible to chew and swallow). Oh and when our table was being cleaned ahead of dessert, an employee was spraying cleaning solution everywhere, resulting in it getting into one of our guest's water glasses. First and appropriately last visit.

When they say something is spicy it is spicy! Delicious! Warm and inviting atmosphere as well. Definitely get the dumplings. My favorite was the lamb. don't forget the eggrolls. they were out of the pork spareribs, but the owner suggested we get the pork instead and we were happy we did. We also got the chicken fried rice and the Dan Dan noodles. I can't wait to go back and try the roasted duck! Enjoy!

I visited the restaurant last night and really enjoyed the experience. The restaurant is warm and embracing. The service is exceptional. Our server Erin was knowledgeable and guided us through the menu. The menu offers a range of dishes at different price points. The wine list offers a wide selection and is well priced by the bottle and glass. Chef visited the table and was engaging and clearly interested in the dining experience. Dont dismiss the restaurant because of its location....when you step in, it is quiet and peaceful. I strongly recommend the dumplings. You will not be disappointed.

the asian fusion was amazing and i could taste the individual flavors. love the art on the walls and the fresh flowers on the table. the chef even came out and talked to us about his inspiration for the dishes.

Be the first to ReplyDefinitely an interesting experience and take on Chinese
Definitely an interesting experience and take on Chinese cuisine to come to tampa bay. There is a very interesting vibe in here that feel much like hip hop Japanese vibe meets upscale diner but one thing to note is that the servers are very friendly and attentive and helpful. I ordered a few different dishes including some dumplings and then some main courses. I really enjoyed the shrimp and bamboo probably my favorite out of all the dumplings tried. I also tried the two Bao buns and they are very interesting. Came out very hot so many sure to give them a minute to cool down. I loved some of tue presentation elements that they have here like the dumpling boxes presentation and torching the pork belly in front of you. This was another one of my favorite dishes that was very flavorful. The shrimp appetizer was phenomenal. It doesn't look like much but probably the best shrimp I've ever had in terms of being perfectly cooked and with a beautiful fry crisp and coat and then whatever they use to season and salt is addicting on the paired slightly pickled onions. The Bao dumplings are dumplings as they are listed so don't get confused with thinking they are buns. They are a thicker dough so if you don't like that kind of dumpling get the other styles of dumplings. The Dan Dan noodles weren't my favorite. I didn't get any wine or cocktails only a gin and tonic. I had heard a lot about Thai restaurant before going in terms of food and bad but still wanted to go and experience it and make up my own opinion and am glad that I visited. I did feel as thought the price point was a bit high for the portion sizes of what you got and the overall feel of everything but am glad that I got to enjoy the dishes that I ordered.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely delicious dishes.
The website says dress to impress, but the restaurant is in an old diner. We thought dress to impress was like Meat Market or Olivia's. This place might want to get that trendy, but it wasn't there yet. You wouldn't want to wear a plan t-shirt and jeans, but you could wear a more casual dress and not feel out of place.I got a dirty martini and it was good and strong. Overall everything was very good, so these notes are mainly to myself so I remember for next time. Otherwise, if you're on the fence about going, I highly suggest you do so. Here's everything we tried:Chilled Green Beans: I don't see chilled green beans that often, these were delicious. Salt & Sichuan Pepper Shrimp: Another great dish. My favorite salt and pepper dishes are at Yummy House and I felt like this rivaled that.Red Oil Lamb Wonton: It was good, but wasn't a stand out to me, so I'd pass next time.White Truffle Fried Rice: To die for. I looked up after if I could get it for lunch (no, because they aren't open for lunch) or if they deliver (no to that too). I was craving it that badly. One day I will consider ordering to go and driving the thirty minutes just to pick up this fried rice.Truffle Mushroom Bucatini: I thought I was going to love this dish, but I ended up not being a huge fan.For dessert we went with the Key Lime Pie. It was a very interesting take with lychee boba. I enjoyed it.Chef Richard Hales actually walks around the room to talk with people. I thought that was a very nice touch.

Wow! Mouthwatering and delicious! My husband and I went yesterday and I haven't stopped thinking about it since then. We got the egg rolls, lamb and cumin dumplings, chicken and chive bao, Dan Dan noodles, and Hawaiian ribeye. Everything was such a vibrant collection of flavor. If I could only pick one favorite, it would have to be the ribeye. The flavors of the sauce were sweet and tangy, the meat melted in your mouth, and the pineapple was the perfect pairing. We chose to sit outside. There is a large outdoor area with patio furniture and space heaters for winter months. We sat under the covered patio. I do think some fans out there would go a long way to keep a fresh breeze going and would help keep some pesky flys at bay. Last thing, I have to shout out the staff. They were very attentive and happy to help guide us through the menu. We even got a visit from Chef Hales himself, thanking us for our support. Definitely check this spot out. We can't wait to come back to try more items on the menu!
