Incredible dining experience, excellent service and the rib
Incredible dining experience, excellent service and the rib eye steak we got (and split btw two people) was massive each piece looked like a full steak cooked perfectly medium rare. Drink pours also generous, great spacious ambiance and live band. Best steakhouse in SF

Returned tonight after more than a few years to find the food and the service as quality as I remembered. Filets all around, perfectly medium rare, sides of sautรฉed mushrooms and creamed spinach solid sides along with the baked potatoes dressed to order. Caesar and wedge salads a nice start to the meal, with sazeracs and old fashioneds to begin and a lovely Malbec by the stem to accompany the main. Primary server Elliot was attentive and the staff cleared on time. And the house cheesecake and a double espresso completed our meal on a high note!

A Shout Out to Dress For Success SF / SJ for reaching out to Harris Restaurant to donate a $150 gift certificate for their annual fundraiser to Inspire Women.... The silent auction was a success and I was the recipient of this . My 1st time at Harris' , Reasonable Valet Parking with convenient payment via card inside restaurant or cash when leaving. Restaurant opens promptly at 1700 hours. There was a line out the door. Most people headed straight for the bar. We r seated right away a cozy booth table for two. We were greeted by Fabulous Elliot who was on top of his game!!! The Best Server who gave us options and suggestions of what to try. We ordered our beginnings fresh Washington State oysters, platter of 6-succulent ,sweet and the the taste of the ocean, option to place garlic vinegar or cocktail sauce(not needed for my oysters I enjoyed) , We had to try Manhattan style clam chowder with fresh baked sourdough bread and churned butter. Ohhhlala delish. This humble beginnings filled by Steak tartare & Japan style Wagyu Seared Ribeye slices talk about an explosive flavor in your mouth. Of course we paired our meal with Castello di Amorosa finest Sangiovese wine 2012. Great conversation with Elliot lead us to our Main attraction. Elliot was educating us of where the tender Bison Ribeye was from the state of Wyoming . My husband and I were so impressed with Elliot's service and how well the team of service people : bread, water , changing of service utensils and linens. The Chef was on point. Dessert was a banana crรจme brรปlรฉe, I thought it was too sweet but that's just me. We finished our meal and dessert with hot espresso.... Muah!!! You might ask why I did not give a 5 stars.... Management was not very friendly and seemed very uptight.

Classic. Professional staff and excellent food.
Be the first to ReplyI enjoyed my dinner at Harris'.
Firstly, I love the vibe of the place -- large booths with brown leather backs against a dark interior. It brings a sense of older dining room glamor that has slowly faded over time, yet is relaxing and refreshing to experience in 2021. The wait staff here are attentive to details, and I would say no detail is too short of mentioning and it will be accommodated. In terms of the food, I thought that everything was fresh and top quality.

The service was lovely, the wine was nice, the sides were decent, but my new york steak was as tough as shoe leather. It was only when I tried to cut into it I realized they hadn't asked how I wanted it done. It was still pink but incredibly chewy and tough.

I've read how great the steaks are here so naturally we ended up here on a Saturday night before heading to Barbarossa for a fun night out. When we arrived, we saw families and couples waiting for a table. Luckily for my husband and I, we had reservations (highly recommended). We were immediately taken to our table. It is always nice when a restaurant prioritizes their reservations and you don't end up waiting that typical 15 mins like most restaurants in the city tend to do. The ambiance is laidback, pretty old school with a classy touch. The booth was in excellent condition and I love how they made sure to honor that request. The service was on point and everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. They definitely have some of the best cuts of meat in town! We were on a strict schedule and our waiter did a great job at making sure that we were in and out within an hour and 30 minutes. Sadly we didn't have a chance to look at dessert but from what we saw they looked tasty. They also do Birthday desserts in case you're interested in taking a loved one for such an occasion.Next time we return it'll be with friends, thanks Harris'!
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I enjoyed Valentines here last week.
I am repeating what I wrote several years ago. It applies now. Also a delicious offering is you can call in and order a to-go version of their great menu options.I maintain this was, is, and will always be the best steak house in San Francisco. The OTHER gushed-over and noisy steak houses serve baked cardboard, braised cardboard and oh, lest I forget, char-broiled cardboard. Hurray for Harris'!They all know me as the woman who asks for the Champagne rice with the fabulous tiny chopped chives on top. Their Executive Cut Prime Rib should have been served to William the Conqueror or at least as a prop in the Errol Flynn masterpiece "Robin Hood". I am astonished at the poorly dressed patrons from time to time, but everyone is treated with grace and excellent service. Years ago, I was complimented on this site for describing the Harris' baked potatoes as "little zeppelins"--well, they still are an anticipated part of the evening's meal.

I was looking for a new spot for Vday and i saw their prime rib pictures and i was like yes i want that!!! made reservations on opentable.com. First of all its Valet Parking for $18.00. Theres only one person and it took a minute to grab my car and give us a ticket. We walked in and was greeted which was nice. We were seated at a two seater table which i don't usually like i like sitting in a bigger table that fits four people feels very tight for me. We were handed 1 piece of small bread each with a big scoop of butter. The bread was very hard..and i thought hmmm? only one bread..umm okay?Appetizers: I got the crab cakes and i asked him if it was fresh and he said yes everything is fresh but to me it tasted very flaky and minimal crab in there and it just not good or fresh to me. Then i was debating on either the wagyu or the prime rib and i love love prime rib so i went for the executive cut one too. Bad mistake for a steakhouse i should of went for a steak. The prime rib as good as the picture looks it was the quite opposite it tasted very chewy i dont know how to describe it..it just didnt melt in your mouth not the best at all. And i usually love prime rib ive tried soo many places and this place was just a little disappointment. I just went to house of prime rib and they make the best of course but i should of known when going to a steakhouse just get their steak not prime rib lesson learned. In addition i got there ceasar salad so i was mainly munching on that and then we got the crรจme brรปlรฉe for dessert. That was pretty good. o yeah the place got pretty busy after we arrived so our server was somewhat slow. We were waiting for our dessert for a minute. i forgot to get his name but overall good service. Will i b back?! um probably not maybe to try their waygu? But i am in San Jose it would have to be a reason to come back. not a place that i would rave about - sorry! Bill with tip was $260.00
Be the first to ReplyReally great steakhouse.
Everything is always delicious. Love the crab cakes as an appetizer. The steak is very tasty. Some of the drinks come with a little ice tub to keep them cold, so cute. The service has been great each time we have gone as well. Love coming here as a treat.
Be the first to ReplyHarris' has probably the best steak I have ever eaten.
We went for a birthday and loved it.

Bone-in Ribeye! Yup! For the food definitely!!! This place doesn't disappoint if you want a perfectly cooked to order piece of steak. The quality, the flavor...all perfect! Side item includes vegetables and potatoes - tonight we had the scalloped potatoes as well as a side of creamed spinach. All delicious. As I'm writing this review, my friend and I are waiting for dessert - I'm getting the mango coconut baked Alaska and my friend is getting the Strawberries pavlova .... If dinner was this good, dessert should top us off! As for service goes - things moved a little slower than I would have liked and attentiveness could have slightly been better. BUT, I get it, it's a busy Tuesday night, so all is forgiven with the service. The food, the ambiance, oh and did I mention the Live Music?....yes having live music again is awesome. Hope to be back in the near future!!!

Among all the countless porterhouses I've had, Harris makes it the best ! Perfectly cooked porterhouse doesn't come around often but Harris nails it ! Texas gold rush is delicious ! It's aged but not dry aged, so it doesn't really taste aged. But the texture is really perfect. Love it
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience here! Had reservations for a Saturday
Amazing experience here! Had reservations for a Saturday dinner (8 PM) to celebrate a birthday. First off, it's a beautiful restaurant. Classic steakhouse kind of feel. There's a live band playing on one side of the restaurant. I really like the classy/fancy ambiance here, perfect for date nights, special occasions, or a treat yourself kind of night. Definitely not as noisy as the other popular restaurant down the street, so it's a different vibe. Our server was Jim and he was awesome. Very personable and accommodating. We started off with the special appetizer of the day, which were these AMAZING scallops. I'm so glad we tried these. This was one of the best scallop dishes I've ever had. It is a fried scallop with a light and crisp batter. Scallop tasted fresh and slightly sweet. The creamy aioli sauce was amazing! Tangy, sweet, and perfect with the scallop. Loved the micro greens added on top, as well as the wilted spinach it came with. Everything together was perfection. I LOVED this appetizer. I tried my boyfriend's French Onion soup and it was also VERY delicious. Rich broth, lots of cooked onions, and no cheese (which I prefer). Good soup!As for my entree, I got the Steak Diane with a baked potato and creamed spinach (additional cost for this). It was a petite filet with some type of shallot-y sauce. REALLY delicious. I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Cut like butter and was so soft. Absolutely delicious. Sauce was a good compliment to the steak, but it is rather strong. Creamed spinach is delicious! Not too heavy on the cream and very flavorful. Baked potato was loaded and was tasty! Pretty standard baked potato. For dessert, I shared the Baked Alaska. I've never tried this before and it was such a treat! Outside meringue tasted just like a toasted marshmallow. Inside had a refreshing mango sorbet. Everything together was delicious. Not a heavy dessert, which I like. Perfect way to end the meal. Overall, I loved my experience here. Price is a bit steep, but it's one of those special occasions or treat yourself kind of places. The experience from the start felt special and the food was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to come back here again!

The petite fillet here is absolutely the best steak I have ever had. We had a lovely birthday dinner for my wife. Harris' ratings should be all five stars. Great atmosphere, great wine, great service.
Be the first to ReplyThis review is for my DoorDash order from tonight's dinner.
My mom was craving beef so I decided to give Harris' a try since they offer quality meats. We requested "rare minus" for all orders. Basically more rare than...rare lolFilet Mignon: super tender cut. Ordered the Truffle Madeira sauce to go with this and it was delicious!Bone-In Ribeye: big cut of meat for a person with a big appetite. Cooked and seasoned perfectly with pretty grill marks on top Prime Rib: the biggest disappointment of the night...unfortunately my order lol ): My cut of meat came almost well done. Quite the opposite of what I requested. HUGE let down - I can understand if it came medium rare or even medium...but this was way over cooked.Overall pretty solid spot for beef, but becareful if you're ordering food for delivery since you can't send it back if the cook on your meat isn't correct.
Be the first to ReplyWe we're visiting new friends in San Francisco who wanted
We we're visiting new friends in San Francisco who wanted to splurge on a great meal To welcome us to the City. We walked to the restaurant -- which is a few blocks from where they live in Pacific Heights. The restaurant is attractive and comfortable and the waitstaff very attentive and personable. Drinks were fine. For a starter, our hosts ordered a plate of fried mushrooms (kind of odd looking and tasteless) and onion rings -- which were OK. That terminated the "good" elements of our Harris meal experience. We had driven up to the City from the Palm Springs area earlier that day and were pretty ravenous for some great meat. Both of us ordered the 20 oz bone-in rib-eye -- one charred medium and the other charred rare. Both were delivered suitably charred, but the meat itself was so tough it was virtually inedible and actually almost impossible to cut with serrated steak knives. The meat was juiceless and virtually tasteless. Neither of us ate more than 1/3 of the "steaks". Each bite took at least 30 seconds of knife work to cut out. I think the only "person" who really appreciated the meat was our dog who had two plus days of very expensive chewy treats to enjoy before we returned the remainder to the trash bin where it should have been consigned by the restaurant in the first place.Needless to say, we will not return to this restaurant and will advise our friends who live in or visit SF to avoid it.

Each item we ordered was fantastic and our waiter really went above and beyond to make a birthday dinner special. Try the soups!! We ordered the peppercorn steak and prime rib as our entrees with the nightly potatoes special, au gratin. Ask for the creamy horseradish!

Old fashioned restaurant for sure! Place is dated but still has the charm! Went there for a buddy's bday and we had fun! The wine selection is CRAZY big yet pricey (25+ pages), bring your reading glasses!! Everyone got the Harris's steak (dry aged) and it tasted fine, glad I got the huge cut of Prime rib which was delicious! Salads were pretty good sized, so would get the half next time (Ceaser salad was awesome, had a huge anchovy on the top of it- perfect!)Waiter/bartenders were really friendly and not pushy- really fun time!
Be the first to ReplyOur steaks were cooked to perfection.
This may be an old school steak house but they definitely have their cooking process down. The crab cakes we ordered were delicious as well. The quality and flavor of the steaks seems to be much better than some of the other steak houses I've been to.
Be the first to ReplyNever disappoints.
In this age where hip, innovative, and alternative restaurants are "in", it's refreshing to find an old school/classic steakhouse that serves up the classics with outstanding service. Have been here on multiple occasions and have tried the filet mignon, NY strip, and bone-in ribeye and never have been disappointed. Restaurant is def a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. In this case, you get quality cuts and prepared meats with solid sides and attentive service. Always look forward to coming here and highly recommend it!
Be the first to ReplyWe have been going to Harris' every year for my birthday
We have been going to Harris' every year for my birthday for 15 years, and booking well (at least a month) in advance. We've always requested a booth, and thinking that such an advance reservation, especially during these times of COVID, it would be OK.We realize, as I'm sure most people do, that requesting a booth always gives you the response from the restaurant that "we will do our best to accommodate your request, but no guarantee". ย And we can live with that. But since we've been such regular customers and we made our reservations so far in advance (six weeks) and given the COVID situation of restaurants being a bit under reserved, we were totally surprised when we got there tonight and were met by a very, well, "haughty" host who told ย us the best he could do was seat us in the bar. ย It was obvious to us that there were several open booths available. ย One of the waiters (a very nice guy) said "I'll see what I can do about letting you know which ones of my tables may be moving soon". ย And, get this, our reservation was at 6:30 - not an extremely popular time (but I could be wrong, of course). ย But the attitude of the host was just bordering on obnoxious, especially since it was my birthday and we had made the reservations so far in advance. ย And, again, he had several open booths. ย So what's the problem here ?Anyway, his attitude alone made us leave and, frankly, not want to return even though we've been going there so many years.Instead, on the spur of the moment, we went to Morton's downtown, where, without a reservation, they gave us an excellent table, and we dropped over $500 on dinner. ย Harris' loss. ย And with that attitude, unfortunately, we will probably not return, nor recommend Harris' to any of our friends.A ย host with an attitude and no graciousness is a determining factor to where we want to spend our dollars. ย As well, of course, as the quality of the food and service. So, long story short (I guess too late for that) is forget Harris'. ย Go to Morton's, Boulevard, the Ritz, or even House of Prime Rib (which is an experience in itself) but don't waste your time and money on a property that doesn't appreciate your patronage.
