Went with my partner for a birthday occasion. Service is average. Ambiance is fake upscale. Do not stress about proper attire like it states on their website. Families dined in with sweatpants, hoodies and hats. If you want to treat yourself to a fancy dinner at a lunch hour (because that is the menu they gave us) this is your place.

Went there last Saturday and got there a few minutes after 11:30! Service was superb! We liked the Rhode Island Calamari, but that's about it. We ordered 3 other dishes (clam chowder, pork chop and paella), and to be honest they were ok. But wanna highlight the paella as we think I got food poisoning from it!!! Threw up twice and kinda messed up the rest of our day. Travelled 3 hours to explore RI, but sadly felt sick! Hope proper food handling procedures are being observed in the restaurant. I don't want to eat paella ever again.

I am going to be as nice as possible about this monstrosity of a restaurant. Once upon a time I was a regular at Hemenways spent tons of special occasions here with my partner and family. And as you saw my previous review was 5 stars, boy have times changed. Hemenways once hired amazing servers, with class and respect. The service was so good- I would brag about how amazing the respect, service and professionalism was. What a freaking joke this had turned into. For this place to be held to the standard it once was, it has drastically declined and I wish I could put zero stars. Let's start off by saying as classy as a place this is, why are people allowed in sweatsuits. I mean full blow hoodies and all, once upon a time you HAD to dress up In order to get in here or you wasn't getting in. It was an unwritten rule but everyone knew, now you can come in here looking like you rolled out of bed and didn't even bother to brush your teeth. Let's get to the servers I encountered and boy they're so glad I didn't get names. So I chose this place for my birthday dinner (my actual birthday) there was about 10-13 of us total, I had 2 servers. My first server I must say was particularly not nice to my blended family. But was particularly nice to families who weren't blended. If you catch my drift. She constantly came over to ask if we were ready to order drinks, but never brought out bread that was asked for about 3 times. When she was giving us our specials of the night, she looked like she hated her job and us. So at this point I went to the manager James (he was nice, the only good part about this review ) and I told him I didn't appreciate her service and she was ruining my vibes and made my family uncomfortable, she was removed from our table and we were given someone else who was kind the whole time. Okay- here's the fun part. As the birthday girl don't you think my order of food should be correct out of everyone else's, wouldn't you make sure to do that? WRONG! Everyone else ordered something fancy, I got 1.25 pound lobster BOILED with asparagus that's it. My order comes out it's a stuffed lobster. How did you get my food wrong? It was the simplest thing, this is a lobster place correct? So as this was being put in front of me I said to the man excuse me that's not mine, his response in the most (snobby brat like attitude) DONT BLAME ME ITS MY FIRST DAY I GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS. At this point I could've took my whole family out and left, because the back to back ignorance to my family of color was incredibly DISGUSTING, and I am appalled with how we were treated. It gets better! Shall I keep going? So after my WHOLE family ate their meals and they were already bagged up, my meal finally comes out at this point I'm shaking, visible to all. I was so upset that my actual birthday was being messed up to the point nobody at Hemenways seemed to care. Not shocked! They bring out a "desert for the table, on the house" she puts it in the middle of the table, shouldn't you bring that to me? NOPE! What is even happening? Oh- and the lobsters they did mess up on they just said they were also on the house. But we were charged for on the bill, we didn't realize this the night of because I had so much anxiety from all the ignorance. So when I called the next day to explain my experience with a different manager. He spoke with the other manager and called me back. And said I will refund you the money we overcharged and I'll comp you some money. He made it sound real delightful, but don't forget we were charged for 2 lobsters that they messed up on and were told they were on the house. So that was removed from the bill and about 4 drinks that's it. So he said I'll comp you back 244.00 mind you the lobsters we got charged for alone were 140.00 total that we weren't supposed to be charged for so we got a lousy 104.00 comp when we easily brought in $900.00 + , and ruined my birthday. When I asked what would be done about ruining my night, he said 244 isn't enough? No sir 104.00 , racist servers, ignorant bus boys and terrible management aren't worth a lousy 104.00 comp back, maybe you should've told me to come and try again. No wonder they're always looking for severs online because they can't keep them. I wouldn't bother it's not what it used to be. Me and my 10-13 other family members will never come back here again. If your family is blended as well be careful. They pick and choose who they want to cater to. ( Nobody cares about your sorry apology Christopher, you don't hold yourself accountable on the phone but on here you want to make it appear as though you are so sorry, please hire employees who aren't rude, arrogant and racist)

I usually order the lobster Mac and cheese and the fillet mignon with spinach and mash potatoes as I think these are the best tasting dishes on the menu. These items are tender and good a solid 7/10. The ambiance is nice for a date out and the service is usually good.

Fantastic service, wonderful fresh seafood menu, good wine list. We were 6 for a business dinner and they killed it with lobster and raw oysters.

Hemenways is a gem.
The food is very good and I love that there is an abundance of seafood options. The seafood casserole is delicious. I have visited several times and enjoyed many different meals although I find them overly salted. The restaurant is sophisticated and designed similar to most of the restaurant group establishments. The waitstaff do a nice job and are friendly. Ask for a table on the canal side for the best view.
Beautiful atmosphere with relaxed ambiance.
The servers were super attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend for a date night or treat yourself moment. Everything is delicious starting with the rolls, the crust has just the right amount of crunch with a soft warm interior. The lobster bisque is rich, flavorful and has just the right amount of lobster chunks. Try the stuffed lobster. It was to die for.

Great place to celebrate AND eat fantastic seafood in Providence. They were great about moving my reservation three times for the night. For got my wallet and they don't have Apple Pay. Finally arrived for a 7:30pm birthday celebration. I requested their best seat. We were welcomed graciously and shown to a great spot by the window facing the river and a great view of a Provident mural. Our sever Theresa was AWESOME She was full of energy and accommodating. She made great suggestions, handled a picky eater with professionalism and grace. She had the bartender made a special drink of pineapple tequila with grenadine and a splash of pineapple juice. It was a candy lovers dream. Ordered the drink special which was awesome as well. I was underwhelmed at the crab cake portion but then overwhelmed at its taste. The paella was delicious with steamed clams, mussels, shrimp and scallops. It was a little spicy but not intrusive. Next time I want to try the grits and scallops. Enjoyed the caramelized cabbage immensely, it was roasted to perfection, seasoned and sauced with flavor. Kudos to the chef. Towards the end of our meal things slowed down. Took a while to get the dessert menu and then nothing appealed to us. Ended up with the chocolate flourless cake. Not a fan, but it was quite good with a hint of salt to pop the flavor. We got our check but it was never picked back up so we could express our gratitude to Theresa, tipped her well I think.

I really enjoyed my meal! I had the baked stuffed shrimp and they were delicious. I started with a cup of creamy chowder, which was also good. We finished with a chocolate mousse dessert which was just ok for me. The waitress was fantastic and the ambience was so nice for a date night. If I had to give feedback, I would just suggest that the serve the baked stuffed shrimp with something other than a mound of mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes made the meal too much. I could not even eat them. Might I suggest whipped parsnips, whipped sweet potatoes, a small portion of rice pilaf. The potatoes were simply too heavy but overall, we enjoyed our time here.

Very busy , but had a nice calmness to the dining experience. We had Elly as our server, she was outstanding . Oysters , cherry stones, and Lobster bisque were all wonderful.Entrees were Swordfish, Seafood casserole were also great . Free garage parking . Just a great semi high end . Certainly a classic in RI

I will keep this simple; Brandi was a great server. Our dinner of the shared shrimp cervice, scallops, and a special order of swordfish were super. We had a nice bottle of sonoma cutrer that worked well with this dinner. My childhood friend bob kinkead won the james beard award for his DC seafood restaurant where i was an investor. This dinner was its equal. I have never said that before!
If you're in Providence, you have to eat at this restaurant.
Everything about this restaurant was wonderful, starting with our server, Juan. He was friendly, helpful, and never rushed us. The bacon wrapped scallops were the best appetizer I ever had (even my colleague who doesn't like scallops loved these). The seafood casserole entree had generous pieces of fish, shrimp, and lobster. The key lime pie for dessert was as good as any I've had in Florida

Traveling with a friend and the hotel recommended the restaurant. Absolutely blown away with the excellent service provided by Mason and the exceptional food! Highly recommend Hemenway’s ! Wow! Baked Shrimp was outstanding.

Well worth the visit. An outstamding collection of menu items. Beautiful view or the surrounding area/ Exceptional service. We were on vacation and glad we made the choic to go for dinner here. (Go early)
Annual Tradition Coming to an End?
Have been dining here to celebrate birthdays this time of year for approximately ten years. We drive up from VA to dine with our daughter and son-in-law. This year was a disappointment. The recipe for the seafood casserole has been changed to include more filler (breadcrumbs) and less seafood. It used to be creamy and light. Now it’s doughy and heavy. This year it tasted like something one would get at a mediocre diner. Service was ok. Three of us had the seafood casserole and were dissatisfied and disappointed. Paying for quality is fine. Paying fine dining prices that tastes mediocre not so fine.
A wonderful place to eat
This was by far the best food of our trip. We got the name from our boar tour guide and it was right on. I had the steak and it was cooked to perfection. Even the prestation was nice. My husband got the clams and muscles and said they were the best he ever had. Morgan, our server, was very attentive and always right on the ball to get everything for us. For us, this was the highlight of our day spend in Providence.

First time dining here and I must say, they've made my partner's 21st birthday one beautiful, amazing night. We arrived and were sat right next to the window with the water view and they also made a "Happy Birthday" card and put it on the table. The service is ABOVE and BEYOND. They're all so accommodating and detailed with anything you need to know.As for the food- absolutely delicious! Started off with the bacon wrapped scallops accompanied with a jalapeño maple relish and they were delectable!! As for the entree, the filet mignon was tender and perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were definitely the best I've tasted from any restaurant. The flavor is immaculate as every bite I took, there was an essence of creamy, salty buttery goodness lingering all over my mouth. The asparagus was also very good! The star of the show- the lobster Mac and cheese. TO DIE FOR! Dangerously delicious and rich, your mouth begs for another bite each time you take one. And the presentation of course is amazing!To end off the night, baked Alaska for two. I've grown up seeing and hearing about this dessert so I definitely had my heart set on it. I loved the table side flambé- it was unexpected and had my partner and I in awe. Would definitely come back again whenever I can, 10/10!!

Probably one of the best restaurants in New England out side of Boston. Food was excellent, staff was friendly and helpful. It's definitely one of the more expensive spots in town but absolutely worth the price tag. Highly recommend!

The food was absolutely delicious, and so we're the cocktails. As this was my first time there - and for a special occasion - I was slightly disappointed that it took 20min to seat us. However, the staff apologized, offered us an appetizer, and (even though it was a wait) they made sure to keep us updated and came to gather us. The dining room was beautiful with almost floor to ceiling windows. And even though there were a lot of people in the restaurant, there wasn't too much noise. I would absolutely go back for the food but mainly because of how we were treated from start to finish.

Our waitress was very friendly and the ambience was lovely. We ordered the paella, stuffed lobster, and whole fish of the day, all of which were very delicious. The only improvement I can suggest is larger portion sizes given the price (the paella and lobster were both a little small). Overall, an amazing dining experience !

Everything was on point: great food, romantic atmosphere and service. They made our anniversary dinner special by putting rose pedals on our table and the host, manager and server even remembered our anniversary. Staff was very knowledgeable and polished. I had the best lobster Mac I've ever had and my fiancé really enjoyed her salmon. The calamari and the chocolate mousse were both excellent as well. The cocktails were also very good. Will definitely go back.

They knew we were celebrating, so they laid down. Rose petals for us. The service was amazing. Food was absolutely delicious. I cannot wait to go back! If you're in Providence, looking for seafood, I highly recommend this place. I got the baked cod, cup of chowder, stuffies, and dessert. Everything was 10 out of 10.

I visited Hemenway's for my birthday dinner.
I recommend making a reservation, as the restaurant was very busy on a Friday night. I ordered off of the Providence Restaurant menu and chose the baked oysters as an appetizer, 1.25 baked lobster for an entree, and the flourless chocolate torte for dessert. I also shared bacon-wrapped scallops for an additional appetizer. The baked lobster was stuffed with shrimp, scallops, and crab ($18) and was comparable to the same dish at the Mooring. I wish they had flavorful side dishes to complement the course instead of simply mashed potatoes and green beans. My friend had the Grilled Kohlrabi which was good, but maybe the only vegetarian dish on the menu. Lastly, the torte was definitely heavy and rich, but delicious. Our server was really nice and friendly and they validate parking if you ask too. Hemenway's is definitely a special intimate occasion restaurant that I would return to.

Still delicious as ever. The location and ambiance of this restaurant are ... just beautiful. Although on ground level, you really get great views of downtown Providence. I love all of the windows!!! The inside is spacious, and they have complimentary valet in the parking garage located to the right of them. HUGE PERK!!!The food was good the first time I went ... about 5 years ago, but it was extra delicious this time around. It was restaurant week, so I indulged in their 3-course menu. Such a great value!!! I got the Baked Oysters Hemenway, the Roasted Skate Wing, and the Flourless Chocolate Torte. All were amazing ... ESPECIALLY the skate wing. It was my first time having it EVER, so I don't have anything to compare it to ... but so so so good!!! So flaky and nutty. Mmmmm!!! Not fishy tasting at all!!! I hear it's a pretty rare find, so I'll definitely be keeping my eyes out for it again. Definitely recommend!!! Oh, I also forgot to mention that my friend and I split an "appetizer-sized" order of their lobster mac and cheese. I've had this before, and it is seriously to die for!!!!! Which was evidenced by several other tables ordering the "entree-sized" portion. The flavor is so perfect ... so creamy and cheesy, anddddd they give good portions of lobster meat. This restaurant really had it all cuz their service was impeccable too!!! Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu, as well as so friendly and kind!!! They really made us feel like we were old pals. I just love that!!! Will definitely want to come back again ... when in Providence.
Thee go-to place for seafood in PVD
This was one of Ned Grace’s OG restaurants. For many years it created and maintained a reputation for fine seafood. It remains consistent in its appearance and reputation. It is expensive, but you get what you paid for!

Fabulous early dinner
An all time favorite place where my daughter used to work. Easily got reservation for 3:45 and found ourselves nearly alone. So safer. Start with their RI clam chowder that is clam broth based with no heavy cream or tomato and a lobster bisque. Then to fresh local oysters. Main courses: seafood casserole with light sherry in sauce and roasted asparagus and paella of shrimp, scallops, clams and mussels. Alsace Riesling and a Seattle ale to go with. No room for desserts and not even considering bacon on a crème brûlée, one of options.
Underdelivered for the price..but good bread!
Filet overcooked...demiglaze not added correctly. Fairly bland taste.Service polite but cold. Pricey. Expected better.
Great food in the heart of Providence.
We were visiting Providence to see out Granddaughter - a Freshman at Brown Univ. We decided upon this restaurant due to ratings and proximity to both parties. What a treasure! We were delighted with the location, ambiance, food, and service. We enjoyed shrimp, chicken, and paella dishes. Each dish was idea. We ended the meal with a chocolate coffee dessert. If in the area, it is a sure bet!

Food - For drinks we had the Every Little Breeze and the Chai Collins, but with vodka instead of gin, both were good. The food the family ordered was really good, I recommend and would order again. For appetizers we had the fried Calamari (very flavorful with tomatoes and peppers, delicious) andRI clam chowder (clam chowder is in clear broth base, tasty). For entrees we had the Chicken Caesar with grilled chicken (great Caesar dressing makes this a winner), Squash & Burrata with Salmon (nice portioned salad with diced squah, candied pecans, topped with a warm burrata cheese, delicious), Warm lobster roll (warm roasted bun hugs all of the lobster meat perfectly, repeat order worthy). Service - Our waiter was Jacob, he was ready with great recommendations and took care of us, the food came out faster than expected. Location - On South Main street by the river front just down the hill from Brown U. and down the street from RISD. There is a parking lot next door and walkable from campus. Ambiance - nice wood interior restaurant with a view of the river and a nautical theme.

Incredible ceviche!
Our server Brandi was FANTASTIC! We ordered appetizers for dinner. We tried the ceviche (so bright and refreshing), the bacon wrapped scallops with a little kick, and the stuffies, which hubby loved but I thought were boring — stuffy, just like their name. The Bloody Mary was great. Hubby had 2. We will definitely return for entrees on another night. I’m full and happy.

Hemenways A lovely, civilized, spot with excellent service and fresh, delicious seafood. It is evident from the warm, accommodating, gracious and attentive server, (Brian) service is a priority. The food is also carefully and very well prepared and dietary restrictions were pleasantly honored. The Rhode Island chowder and calamari were such great appetizers. The bacon wrapped scallops were fantastic. The cauliflower appetizer was very tasty and devoured. The seafood is fresh, simply prepared and SO well executed. The composed scallop entrees were utterly delicious with perfectly cooked scallops, sweet potato and chard. The cod entree with spinach and potatoes was very fresh, tasty and simply baked. Every time we are in Providence we return to this top notch seafood restaurant that excels in service, food and ambiance. Hemenways is our favorite restaurant in Providence!

3.) Finding the Reservation
* BraveCloth47 now uses their connections at Hemenway's Restaurant Providence to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If BraveCloth47 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, BraveCloth47 receives the $200 reward which is credited to BraveCloth47's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
