Worth trying despite the high price tag
We absolutely loved the experience - intimate and ability to interact with the chef and Sous makes this very special. Everything was exceptional and melted in your mouth. I specifically loved the chef instructions on how to eat the various pieces and answering the various questions. On tidbit to note is that the place is inside of the taco stand which the email doesn’t clearly state plus we didn’t know that you needed a code that is only valid for 15’ past your reservation time which added unnecessary stress and should be clearly stated on their website. Once you overcome the initial hurdle of finding the place everything was top notch but did come at a hefty price tag. The champagne selection also started at $250 which is on the steep end even for Miami. Definitely something worth trying but for the $$$$ we still prefer cote.

Stepping through the secret Hiden Door transports you to an amazing, private, and delicious dining experience. I liked that the dining experience itself was as good as the food . Once the reso was made, email reminders were sent outlining dress code and directions. Call me old school, but it was refreshing to read "no flip flops or tank tops." The setting was clean, bright and decidedly Japanese. The service was impeccable, never an empty glass. Friendly and helpful. The waitstaff selected a beautiful sake for us, which complimented the meal. The Omasake sushi experience was top notch. Quality ingredients, prepared like watching art - truly a unique and beautiful experience. It was well worth the wait.

My husband and I made the pilgrimage for my birthday dinner to this speakeasy-style sushi - restaurant? Somehow that noun doesn’t seem to be the most appropriate one but I’m not sure what else to call it. Gaining entrance through a noisy taco shop was just the first of many surprises of the evening. Intimate, luxurious, but still somehow so unpretentious and laid-back, is how I would describe the experience. Just dining with your partner and a couple other strangers and the sushi bar, all the noise and commotion of the outside world just fading away into the background. The preparations were amazing. Brilliance in presentation, quality of food, preparation, and combinations of flavors and textures. Each course was better than the last and I savored the experience. I try to describe my meal to others who have never been, and words just fall short. It’s something you truly have to experience in order to understand. It’s a splurge but absolutely spent it.
Be the first to ReplyGreat quality ingredients/food. Poor service.
The quality of the ingredients/food was top notch. Having said that, the Omasake lacked the variety of flavors that one should expect at this price point ($250/person all in), especially when compared to other similarly priced sushi restaurants in the US.
Unfortunatelly, what could have been a very good experice was ruined by the poor service. One waitress was borderline disrespectful since our arrival. What a shame.
Overall, not worth the money.
Great food, Operational issues
Look at the Hiden website and you don't know that you need a code (only good for 25 minutes) to get in or that you must be 21 to eat there. Luckily i checked my spam before we went and saw the email giving me the code at the back of the taco shop to enter the lovely space and they made a one-time exception for my teenager. The ambiance is nice (you don't hear the taco shop noise) and the servers attentive. The chiefs were friendly and clearly skilled. The food was amazing. The drink choices were varied and the servers gave good counsel on choices. Although we had cleared in advance that we were pescatarian, when the beef entree was served we did not have a substitute. Since the beef is the "star" menu choice it was especially awkward to see we did not get any value for our prepaid meal. Having done several other Omikase meals, this one was exceptional otherwise. Had a great variety of appetizers, sushi, hot dish and then desserts. Definitely worth a try.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Private and well though experience
The Hiden experience is clandestine, exclusive, and real tribute to your palate. The meal is served as an Omakase, Japanese for: I’ll leave it in your hands. The chef decides what to serve, starting with the lightest and ending with the most filling.
The space is comprised of eight spots, guided by the Master Sushi chef, his helper, and two servers that complement the two and a half hour experience. We tasted nineteen individual plates: 15 fish, 1 duck, 1 meat (Wagyu A5 the most expensive cut in the world), and two desserts. This was a sensory, luxuriously galactic, eclectic, and wonderful experience of exceptional qualities, and it certainly came with a hefty price. Hiden is located within a taco shop in Wynwood. The James Bond style door does not read the restaurants’ name. Slide the door open with the four-digit code texted to you on the day of your reservation.
The brilliant chef has departed and everything has changed
Hiden was an incredible experience led by the extremely talented Tadashi Shiraishi. Sold out for monthS in advance, the whole experience has changed with his and his wife’s departure. A new chef and team has now taken over as the third member of the original team has departed as well and the magic is completely gone. You now are left with an ordinary omakase experience which is not worth navigating through a dumpy taco stand to get to. Not sure what caused the chef to leave but it will never be the same. Thanks for the memories Tadashi!
WORLD CLASS
Hiden exceeded my expectations, and is hands down the finest, most traditional omakase in south Florida. The chef is truly experienced and knowledgeable, with a passion for traditional Japanese cuisine and sourcing ingredients. The finest tuna, A5, wasabi, and his nigiri is classic edomae style. He and his staff were hospitable, and the room is comfortable. While Naoe across the way is good too, this was better.
Also, his shari was quite possibly the best I've ever had... And I've been to many fine omakase spots all over the world. He also doesn't cheap out on anything and gives you plenty. Simply WORLD CLASS in every respect.
World class, I tell you!
