Luxurious Omakase spot with excellent ingredients and
Luxurious Omakase spot with excellent ingredients and execution. Hiden is hidden behind a secret door in the back of the Taco Stand. The space is intimate and the staff is professional. The "invisible hand" Michelin star level service is evident and sets Hiden apart from other counters. The uni toast was exquisite as was the black caviar vichyssoise. The cooked dishes were a weak point for me. For example, the Kinki fish served with a take on ratatouille and the Mushi Hamaguri clam were just okay. The nigiri course was beyond reproach. The seasoning and texture of the sushi rice was perfection. The temperature control for the fish was ideal as well - cold enough to stand out from the rice but not overly so where the flavor is muted. The wasabi here is the real deal and ground against shark skin counter side. The only total miss was the Wagyu Sukiyaki. Overall Hiden managed to create a special experience and showcase finesse at least when it comes to service and nigiri. I give it a Miami 5 but this would probably be a 4 in the NYC omakase scene especially at the hefty price point.

Hiden is an amazing experience for special occasion meals, or for a meal that becomes an occasion. Only 8 people are seated at each of 2 times: 6 and 9 pm. The restaurant is a speakeasy; you'll get a number code the day of your reservation and enter through an unmarked door at the back of a taco shop. Once inside, the space is intimate and the service is friendly. While this is an upscale experience ($300 for the omakase plus drinks), the service is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The chef encourages interaction and taking photos of your food is welcome. The service staff is also very helpful. The food was amazing. Each bite was delicious. On the night I visited, a major standout was the uni, which just melted as you ate it. We also had stone crab sushi, which was a first for me. Even the bathroom was appropriate for the experience with a heated seat. All around this was a great experience and I can't wait for an excuse to return.

One of my favorite omakase experiences ! This was the place I fell in love with uni. The location itself makes the experience worthwhile. Service is impeccable . I don't want to give up too much of the secrets but just know the ambiance is worth it and the menu is so fresh !
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely pleased with omakase experience here.
You can taste the freshness and individual flavors of every ingredient for Every. Single. Dish. Also great customer service. If it weren't for the price tag, I would be here very often.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely the very best Sushi experience and culinary
Absolutely the very best Sushi experience and culinary expertise ever! There are no words to express the level of japanese delight and amazement you will have at Hiden. We were mesmerized by the grand entrance which was at the very back of a bustling taco joint where we had to dodge the crowd through tables and people to get to the hidden door with a discreet keypad beside it. At the door you input the four digit secret code which magically opens up into the decadently private sushi kitchen table where you will be graciously greeted by your very own hosts. The food is the main attraction and the chefs make the whole experience more inviting with charm and big smiles galore. This is the best japanese cuisine in the whole world in my opinion. The caviar and any other add-ons are a must try as at the end you are generously offered any extra dishes of what you may have liked at a lower price point. I would recommend you order as many as you like, since you will get seconds of the best your tastebuds will Thank You later! The pics may not depict what your mouth will experience, it is no doubt a must try, please do yourself a favor and visit Hiden for the very best Omakase journey ever!
Be the first to ReplyWe absolutely loved the experience - intimate and ability
We absolutely loved the experience - intimate and ability to interact with the chef and Sous makes this very special. Everything was exceptional and melted in your mouth. I specifically loved the chef instructions on how to eat the various pieces and answering the various questions. On tidbit to note is that the place is inside of the taco stand which the email doesn't clearly state plus we didn't know that you needed a code that is only valid for 15' past your reservation time which added unnecessary stress and should be clearly stated on their website. Once you overcome the initial hurdle of finding the place everything was top notch but did come at a hefty price tag. The champagne selection also started at $250 which is on the steep end even for Miami. Definitely something worth trying but for the $$$$ we still prefer cote.
Be the first to ReplyThe catch was it is expensive and only serving eight
The catch was it is expensive and only serving eight patrons per session during the two time slots for dinner. I stumbled upon them from a cutout shared by my future daughter in law on the ten best Omakase in town , Hiden captured my attention as it was only $50.00 more from then next most expensive ranked in the article. Is really Hiden as the name implied; for a second we thought we were lost as one had to walked straight into a Taco place with lots of customers on both sides of the aisle. At the end of the restaurant , a metal door like the elevator kind the only way in. Two dishes stand out for us. Uni Toast with Japanese Milk Bread, Hokkaido Uni, Truffle soy sauce. ( well this Uni is a tad firmer then most locally available so is easier for the palette if one is not use to the mushy soft texture ) My next favorite is the Corn Gazpacho which is sweet corn, rice cracker. Served at room temperature, this soup like texture, tasted like ice cream, without the sugar. Super yummy. The tiny rice crackers grinding in your mouth with the soup base, is super delicious. The rest are Toro hand roll as well as sushi selection of fishes that can be ordered in most good Japanese restaurants in town. The difference here is that the chef served each patron one piece at a time; we are all encouraged to use our fingers to hold the sushi. From the chef passing over the rice served at just the right temperature the sliced fresh fish gave one a feeling of the food was warmed by the chef's palm while preparing the sushi. That's the magic touch. No Waygu beef served but a deep fried Japanese grouper with Tartar sauce round it up. Btw the fish are very fresh and flew in from Japan.
Be the first to ReplyHow can I begin to describe this gem? It is traditional
How can I begin to describe this gem? It is traditional omakase in an intimate setting for a mere eight people per seating with two seatings per night. We were there celebrating my husband's birthday. The meal started with a complimentary glass of champagne. We also ordered a fruity sake. The waitress taught us how to pour sake for each other. They also had a variety of cute sake cups and we were allowed to select the one we wanted for the night. Onto the food- there is no possible way to go wrong with tuna toro and tuna o-toro. The scallop course we had was divine. We watched as they would hand-fan the scallops on the grill, then it was served simply with salt and pepper. The sheer simplicity let us taste how sweet the scallop naturally was. The showstopper for me was the uni and tuna handroll. It is genius to pair those two items. I have always thought of uni as ocean butter. Just a creamy taste of the best parts of the ocean, and layered on top of tuna with perfectly balanced sushi rice- I have no complaints. I'm also usually not a fan of octopus as it can be very chewy, but the octopus was soft. Hiden lives up to its michelin star.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best omakase experiences I've had to date, and
One of the best omakase experiences I've had to date, and that's saying something! (But of course, this is a Michelin-starred restaurant after all!) This restaurant is located behind a taco shop in Wynwood - that's right, a literal taco shop! A very busy one at that! So I walked up to one of the workers and asked where Hiden was, and he pointed towards a wooden door at the back of the shop. It's an unmarked door, but if you look closely, there's a keypad to the right of it. Enter the password, and voila, you're in! This speakeasy sushi restaurant seats 8 people around the counter. The executive chef (Seijun Okano) and sous chef (Henry Park) work meticulously to curate each course in front of their guests, and it's all-around a phenomenal experience. The sommelier (Mika) and server (unfortunately did not catch his name) were very attentive throughout the experience. As for add-ons, I opted for an ikura gunkan, genmaicha hot green tea, and 3 oz caviar. Apparently, this was the first week of them offering the caviar add-on for the temaki and wagyu courses, so glad I got to experience that! The caviar add-on was $50 and was meant to add on to the temaki and A5 wagyu, but this is certainly enough for 2 people to share, as I just ate the remainder of mine by itself (which I don't mind at all!). I was also able to do a kanpai toast with the chef and sous chef - they're fun people! :) Anyways... some highlights that stood out as I compare this to other omakase experiences. - The bluefin tuna (hon-maguro) was imported from Chiba, Japan. This is quite rare - at most other sushi restaurants, the fish is farmed in Mexico or imported from Barcelona, and it is usually served as akami zuke. Here, the chef served it uniquely raw and fresh without marinating it in soy sauce. Loved the soft texture and subtle flavors of this nama hon-maguro akami. - The temaki was chopped toro with takuan and plenty of uni on top. Loooooved this. After I bit through the uni and had a bite of the toro by itself, I topped the rest of the temaki with caviar. Great pairing. - Nodoguro: This is one of my favorite fish, but honestly, I don't see this one much on omakase menus. Maybe it's a seasonal fish? But great bite here. - Kitchen courses (non-nigiri): This menu had a good amount of kitchen courses that broke up the nigiri courses. In fact, the menu consisted of 6 courses that were non-nigiri, 9 nigiri pieces, then temaki, miso soup, tamago, and dessert. My favorite kitchen course was, of course, the Miyazaki A5 wagyu sukiyaki with maitake mushrooms. Below the 2 slices of A5 was sweet soy and egg yolk sauce. SOOO delicious. I had one bite as is, and the other bite with a bump of caviar. The A5 literally melted in my mouth, so thin and juicy and tender. The maitake mushrooms were grilled over binchotan - loved the smokiness. I also really liked the kasago karage & hotaru ika. Tis the season for hotaru ika!!! And how blessed am I to have had it here. The deep-fried lionfish with kurozu an had a subtle flavor to it, while the hotaru ika with miso vinegar sauce had a kick in its flavor... they definitely balance each other out! - dessert: cucumber gelato with meringue. I've never had cucumber gelato, but it's certainly a winner. That subtle sweetness is exactly what I love in desserts, not overwhelmingly sweet. I felt very at home and welcomed here in the relaxed environment of Hiden, tucked away behind an unassuming taco shop. Chef Seijin-san loves to explain/talk about the fish, so make sure you come with a curious mind as well as a hungry belly! Definitely recommend a visit if you're looking for high quality sushi and a good time.

After you pass the secret door, you will be transported to one of the first high end omakase's in miami. Seafood from Japan, unique service was performed by the team, they offer you water and the wine list, as well as the sake pairing. The ambiance is a little dark but nice. At the end the food was superb.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing experience top to bottom.
A well thought out omakase experience, that's hands down the best I've experience in south Florida. The sushi portion was all high end fish impeccably prepared. Fish was seared over binchotan and no torch. Abalone, ankimo, and anago were some highlights. Also enjoyed chu toro, o toro, and uni.

Food is the star but the space itself is a close second. Very intimate experience, as the restaurant only seats 8 guests.

We apparently got really lucky getting into this place last night. As we are visiting Miami and not a local. I don't even know where to begin but it's a whole vibe. If you can get in, congrats! You are now apart of an elite few who have been able to experience this magical place. 8 people total for the night. The food and the people are peer magic. Honestly, one of the best experiences we have had! We did the Wine and Sake pairing and it was perfect.
Be the first to Reply10/10 recommend.
Be prepared to pay a hefty price for the food but the experience is well worth it. The place is small and seats about 8-10 people but it makes for a very intimate dining experience. We didn't purchase the sake pairing but the waiter and hostess were so nice in helping us choose the sake we wanted. I can't wait to go back!

High end place that allows you to have a sophisticated experience with the best dishes immaculately prepared by top Chefs. The fish was all very fresh and tasty, the rice cooked to perfection as well as the beef and the miso. Impecable service, a Hiden gem. The y also offered an excellent wine selection. Very especial spot! Highly recommended to sushi lovers.

Had a fantastic experience here after a long wait to get a reservation! The employees put such care into making this a unique experience for all. From the sommelier, to the server, the chef, and the sous chef, everyone contributed positively to the experience in their own way.The fish was the freshest I've had in a while. Each dish was constructed with care and they made sure the flavors were unique and complemented well with each other. I highly recommend the experience. The wine pairing was a nice touch, but I dont think that was worth the cost (same price as dinner). The pairings were tasty, but it was honestly too much alcohol for a dinner (and i can drink!).
Be the first to ReplyFirst time having omakase and I'm still having a hard time
First time having omakase and I'm still having a hard time processing how amazing the food was. The food was beyond expectations but what also really had me was the experience. Very private and intimate which showcased more of the flavor and enjoying every taste with the strangers around you bringing everyone's experience together. I loved seeing everyone's face blow up every time each person ate a piece given by the chef. The staff was very attentive and made us feel like royalty. 10/10 would recommend. Will definitely be coming back again!

While I once counted - and obsessed over- Hiden as one of my favorite restaurants (read FULL original review below), reviewed it first here on Yelp, and placed it high on my TOP MIAMI RESTAURANTS list on my blog, my feelings about it have significantly changed. I have decided to provide the following update:It seems that since chef Tadashi's departure, the restaurant has been a revolving door when it comes to its chefs. This might work for larger restaurants but, in my opinion, greatly affects the effectiveness and consistency of an eight-seat omakase restaurant. I suppose the statement the restaurant group made several years ago when Tadashi left is unfortunately true, "Hiden is more than a chef..." Clearly. It. Shows. That said, I now only recommend Hiden to anyone NEW to omakase. It's a good introduction to the concept delivered by the current chef, Shingo (formerly of The Den by Azabu), without going overboard or being too intimidatingly adventurous. Current cost is now up to $200 per person. Mostly top ingredients are used, and the experience delivered (on this 10th visit) was fresh, clean, and traditional. The chefs and staff were very friendly and professional throughout. But if you are familiar with the omakase scene (especially in NYC or Japan) , however, I suspect you will probably feel disappointed, and left looking for a little more oomph in the courses.
Be the first to ReplyI'm not sure I understand the reviews of Hiden but I just
I'm not sure I understand the reviews of Hiden but I just don't think it warrants five stars. Not even four and I originally assessed it at three but I was overly generous - given its price point and high expectations. I suppose the fact that it's difficult to get a reservation makes it seem that much more enticing. Another reason for the high grades might be the charismatic and gracious chefs and the personal touch afforded by dining in such an intimate setting. It's almost like eating at a friends house because of the friendly banter. That is if you had a friend that charged you money to dine. I know they are changing the restaurant seating policy from six seats to eight which is going to lower the cost but for us the price (including tip) was almost $500 a person. We chose to do the wine/sake pairing and of course that added to the price but the wine/sake was the best part of dinner. Maybe because I'm from The Bronx and have an understanding of money (and the lack of it) but $500 is a big expense for dinner and I was expecting a lot more - not in quantity but in taste and quality. Also I've had omakase experiences in Osaka, Kobe and Tokyo (which I've reviewed on Yelp pre-Covid) and they were far superior. Yes, I understand this is not Japan and a comparison might be unfair but for the time it took for a reservation and the price paid I need some benchmark. The restaurant itself is very similar to omakase restaurants in Japan. Hiden is stark and simple with a clean aesthetic which I expected from this based on prior omakase restaurants.Service was polite and excellent. Many of the dishes highlighted nigiri and my samplings were uneven. Some of the fish selections were good while others were chewy and for me only one of my fish offerings would qualify as excellent. Yes its better than sushi/sashimi you might pick up at Whole Foods but overall not as good as sushi I've had in quality U.S. restaurants.Among the chef's choices was a Waygu course with two generous pieces and one piece was truly excellent while the other was quite average. And average explains the whole experience - for me at least. While I was there I heard the other diners fawn over their food so clearly they loved the same food I found underwhelming. Dessert was truly disappointing and a let down. I expected some end of dinner redemption but like the rest of the meal it was lackluster and seemed to be just an afterthought. Sometimes hype can take on an influencing life of its own and I tried to be objective - so for me Hiden was disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyThe secret's out and not so "Hiden" anymore.
Hiden is a speakeasy type restaurant serving authentic Japanese fare inside The Taco Stand in Wynwood. Now that the secret is out... You'll have to make a reservation and pay in advance to take one of the 8 seats (6 during COVID) on 2 of the daily time slots. The day of the reservation, you'll receive the password you'll need to open the doors of Hiden at the back of The Taco Stand. The Omakase experience takes about 2 hours and consists of 7-8 item's from the chef's choice menu, all prepared in front of you.Yes, it's pricey but worth it for the experience and exclusivity without the pretentiousness. It's perfect for a memorable date night.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my top 3 favorite omakase restaurants! From the Bay
One of my top 3 favorite omakase restaurants! From the Bay Area, we have a good variety of fine omakase dining spots, but Hiden definitely rivals and supersedes most them. Husband and I were treated with exceptional service by both the chef and hostess/server. Everything tasted amazing, fresh and were complimented with perfectly paired flavors. However, the food was not enough for my large appetite. So I ordered about 5 more pieces (I wanted to order more but my husband was tired from the day at this point lol). The only con I can mention is the rice to fish ratio for the sushi was a little off-- slightly too much rice for my preference. Also, the atmosphere is very quiet and would be nice if a tad bit more lively (although I understand that is the nature of the majority of traditional omakase spots). We will most definitely definitely be back to enjoy the pleasant company of Hiden staff and their drool worthy omakase. I'm so thrilled to have found my go to sushi gem in Miami!
Be the first to ReplyI got lucky with my reservation here.
At the time, they didn't accept single diners but they posted a last minute opening on their story and I took it. The experience of walking inside is pretty cool: you are given a passcode to use on a keypad, a door will just slide right open, and you'll be greeted with open arms by the staff and team. It's not cheap at all with it starting at $170, but it's an experience I want to revisit with the different team. My experience was under Chef Honda (an experience from 2019), and it was a very solid Japanese omakase. Each course was meticulously created, and every flavor was subtle and interesting.Although I found the whole experience to be joyful and satisfying, I felt that the flavor was a bit too subtle to justify the price point. Amazing ingredients with masterly skilled chefs, but I found myself looking for stronger flavors throughout the experience. I definitely want to revisit with the new team, and see if there are any differences. I would recommend this if you have the money for it, and if you'd like a solid introduction to a Japanese omakase experience.
Be the first to Reply5 stars alone for the Aesop soap in the restroom.
I'm kidding, but little details like that really make a difference for me.An intimate Omakase experience that gives you a VIP feeling from the moment you walk in. Hiden is accessible by entering a pin number into a keypad. You then pass through a curtain and are transported into a simplistic, but well decorated space. Service is attentive and you are well taken care of throughout the night. You won't have to ask for or request anything. This Omakase had a great mix of hot and cold dishes. Well selected nigiris and a delicious dessert. The first course was the champagne and oyster. The Shigoku Oyster was prepared with a quail egg and specialty ponzu sauce. The perfect first bite paired well with a glass of champagne. It was followed up by the sashimi selection which included chu toro, madai, and shima aji.The hot dishes consisted of Medai Teriyaki, Japanese A5 Wagyu Ribeye, and Kanimiso Yaki: Russian King Crab with Crab Miso Sauce. I enjoyed all of these. The nigiris were all well cut and portioned. Beautiful selections: Kasugo: young sea bream, shima aji: striped jack, nodoguro: black throt sea perch, zuke: marinated tuna, chu-toro: medium fatty tuna, o-toro: fatty tuna. Each piece was perfect and melted in your mouth. Hokkaido Uni Temaki: sea urchin hand roll (amazing) and Tamago: Japanese egg omelette. and specialty dessert that is provided by Dasher and Crank I believe? For more pictures and details visit my Instagram @boujeeboybites
