Horn and Cantle Big Sky Reviews from The Last Year
Jamie the host was very kind, friendly and
Jamie the host was very kind, friendly and acommodating(Kudus to Jamie). I had Mason as a server, he was extremely knowledable about Lone Mountain ranch as he shared some history, extremely knowledable about the menu, and super friendly. His service was exceptional and I appreciated him. The bread and my soft drink were brought out first. The bread was super delicious, more so than I thought it would be! I ordered the Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The asparagus and the mashed potatoes were cooked perfectly. A forreign food runner brought my meal out and set it across the table from me instead of in front of me, she didnt speak english well and called the Filet Mignon by another name, Mason noticed and quickly place the plate in front of me. The portion size 10oz is too big for a Filet Mignon usually it is 5-6 oz. I ordered medium, it was cooked on the outside but the inside was raw, comletely bloody and red from top to bottom. It kinda grossed me out. I asked Mason to box up my potatoes and asparagus and throw the filet back on the the grill to have it cooked correctly then boxed to go. I was going to order dessert as well but decided not to do so as I was a bit disapointed! The manager didnt seem to care the cook didnt know temptures. I am a local concierge in town and wanted to try out the restaurant to recommend to guests. My review is 4 out 5 because of the food runner and the raw steak, other than that it could be excellent with the right cook.
Exceptional Service, Undercooked raw Filet Mignon that part was disapointing!

The best tomahawk steak ever!! Love the ambiance as well.
The best part of all was the cookie with Carmel and ice cream.
Fantastic Dining Exp
The place is great. Strong wine list, but fairly reasonable. The bison strip and the banana split were fantastic. Solid service and the decor is very cool. Definitely worth a visit.

This place was awesome! From the time we were greeted to the time we left we felt like family. The saloon section is so cool, there was nice live music and the drinks were great. I recommend going early and grabbing a drink in the saloon then go to the restaurant for dinner. We had a lot - baked Brie, bison short rib, summer squash salad, Brussels, duck, mushrooms with goat cheese. The staff was great and friendly. We had Pierce as our server and Chef Max made most of our recommendations. Can't wait to come back!
Such a great experience! First of all we were here during
Such a great experience! First of all we were here during "slow season" which was great for us because there was barely anyone there. We had a great table in the corner that had tons of pillows and cushions and had a wonderful view of the ranch. Our server Mason was ON-POINT! He was very friendly and professional, gave us tons of suggestions on what to eat and advice on where to explore for the rest of our trip. We even got a surprise ski shot (mainly because we were there for a bachelorette) (Thanks again!!). All the cocktails were delicious, especially the Lone Mountain. If you enjoy old fashions, the Lone Mountain is similar but way better! We got the elk meatball (killer!) and the baked Brie (seasonal). We all shared the different cuts of meats from prime rib, steak frites (skirt steak), and the filet. I definitely recommend the elk meatball to start and the filet mignon was the most tender and flavorful of the 3. The skirt steak was my least favorite, however it was order medium... so a bit well done for me (ha). Finally, for dessert we had a fun banana split that had 8 different toppings on the round tray, which was fun to pick and choose want you wanted to enjoy with the Sunday. Overall, the staff was great which really made the experience a special one. We will definitely be back next time we are back in beautiful Big Sky!
Great romantic ambience.
Dim lighting with country music playing. Western Ranch type of decor. Good food and drinks.
Very special property for an incredible dinner!
We were a party of 8 on Easter for dinner and LOVED every minute. The atmosphere is absolutely "Montana chic" (says the girl from NJ) and the staff is wonderfully friendly and attentive. We did some dishes family style and some just on our own and loved everything. I think we had almost everything on the menu but stand outs for me were the fondu appetizer, the salmon, and the short ribs.... but everything was great. My 16 year old son said the banana split dessert was "too much" but that is a testament to its greatness! ;) I definitely recommend dinner here, and then take a nice walk along the property and see all the gorgeous animals... this place is great!

The best restaurant I've ever been to!!! I dream about the rolls + butter! All of lone mountain ranch is dreamy and idyllic, service was great, ambiance was phenomenal !!

Can't say enough about our experience here! Laid back and yet the food was nothing short of amazing. A warm cozy fire and epic cocktails made it even better. Nicholas the manager was accommodating to the food allergy in our party, and our server Kelsey was on top of every detail. 10/10 recommend.
What a great atmosphere.
When I think of Montana, this place captures it - post and beam, fireplace, saloon, cozy lighting, and views of the surrounding forest. We started with the ceasar salad and freshly baked cornbread - yum! Salad was dressed perfectly, crunchy romaine and homemade croutons. Cornbread was accompanied with honey butter and candied jalapeños. So good! For our entrée, we shared the Elk chops with risotto and root vegetables (see pic). Meat was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. Call out to Carrie for excellent service. Highly recommend.
Sub-par service and food
We gave it a try after reading some bad reviews. Our experience was as follows: Waitress was hard of hearing and said so. Gin and tonic mess up and tasted awful. Appetizer mess up so she compt us. My elk chops had no taste, carrots cold and shriveled up, risotto had a porridge consistency. My husband had the short ribs and just said”disappointing”! There were two tables next to us that for other reasons were not happy. The ambiance and the room is lovely. Everything else just sub par.
Tremendous ambiance
On a ranch, the ambiance here is absolutely unforgettable. The service was excellent. The food itself was good not great. While pricey (so is everything in Big Sky these days), the ambiance and nice relaxing evening are well worth it.
This place is really, really bad.
The setting and atmosphere = "A"; the service was really poor (keeping this professional) and the food quality was really bad. There were four of us, and we collectively beyond shocked how bad the experience was. I would suggest get a drink. Find somewhere else.
One of the best dining experiences I've ever had.
Great food, excellent service, all in a world class setting.
Atmosphere great food is AWFUL!
Out to dinner after a wonderful day of powder skiing, great place, great service. TERRIBLE food! We sent back 2 inedible entrees and the replacements were just as bad....trout was overcooked, quinoa was undercooked, replaced with wild game Bolognese, no flavor and undercooked pasta..this place is great for a drink but the food is awful....if you are looking for a great meal don't waste your time and money here!
Unfortunate dinner experience
Beautiful place, great service, embarrassingly bad food. Two in our party had the trout with quinoa which was completely inedible. Short rib entree was ok but not great. Certainly not a place I would go to again.
An elegant rustic restaurant
The large space is rustically and elegantly decorated. Service is attentive and informative. The entree menu is limited to 6 meat choices and one vegetarian choice. My thick pork chop, brined and grilled, and served with a tomato-fennel jam, was one of the best I've ever eaten. Her steelhead trout encrusted in crispy corn meal and served over quinoa was tasty but was overcooked. Our server allowed us to sample 3 of their by-the-glass reds, which were very good and fairly priced. Despite the overcooked trout, the outstanding pork chop demands a return.
The Service Made Our Meal
We loved the ranch! The servers were charmingly fun and brilliant! The atmosphere and ambience was one we will never forget! We first went to the saloon for a drink before dinner and we loved our bartender, Mercedes. A Texas gal who says it how it is with an intelligent sense of humor, and knew what we should both order. She was spot on! That habanero Marg was perfection. Our dinner waiter, Mason was so wise beyond his years. He was from Wisconsin and knew wine better than we ever will! He sold us on the special to split - 32 ounce ribeye with an anchovy butter! The way he described the cow we were about to eat had us drooling! We would recommend the smoked trout dip to start! The live bluegrass music was such a fun vibe too!
Fabulous Family Dinner!
We had an amazing dinner at Horn & Cantle during our last night in Big Sky! The service was impeccable, and all of the courses were fabulous! My husband loved the carpaccio and I had the spinach salad to start. Our two teens also had tasty truffle fries to share! For entrees, I had the pasta bolognese with bison, elk, etc, — a true Montana dish! My son had the filet and said it was the best he has ever tasted! We were celebrating my husband’s bday and this was our favorite dinner of the trip! The ambiance is fabulous, you feel like you are on the set of Yellowstone itself! We will definitely be back the next time we visit!
