Charming city hotel
Nice city hotel in the middle of Avignon. Quietly located, not far from the famous bridge and just a few minutes' walk from the center, with a considerable selection of various restaurants. We experienced extremely friendly and courteous service. We booked a normal double room. Apart from the size of the bed, everything was perfect. Everything is decorated in a typical French style, this hotel is very authentic. We felt very comfortable. A big plus point is the valet service for the car, which is parked in a nearby underground car park. Highly recommended if you are not looking for something modern, but an authentic French hotel.

The location is good and the staff pleasant. The positive part ends here, because everything else leaves a lot to be desired: to begin with, no matter how much it has 5 stars (and a 5-star price), it would be a very fair and “cheesy” 3. Everything is old, with decoration from more than 50 years ago, old carpet, uneven floors, pedal heating...the truth is that the room we slept in scared us. Of course, not to repeat or recommend.

Everything was perfect. From appetizers to coffee. Thank you for this delicious, memorable moment. Atmosphere and setting, everything is there. The staff very professional and helpful. Highly recommended for a good souvenir.

We spent a week in this quality hotel which is very well located in Avignon. We appreciated the room upgrade offered by management. The hotel’s facilities are up to par in its category. We greatly appreciated the kindness of the reception team and their good recommendations.

Impossible to sleep before 1:30 a.m. with the window closed, the bars on Place Crillon play music very loudly (from Thursday evening to Sunday evening). For a hotel advertised at this level it is not up to standard
Be the first to ReplyFriendly staff, great location offering high standards, spacious and clean
Wonderful historic quaint 5 star hotel in a quiet, yet centrally walkable location to all highlights. Super friendly reception, who greeted us with a warm welcome, and gave us an upgrade and made our wedding anniversary memorable. Hotel offers off sight car parking garage. Very clean and lovely decor. Highly recommendable.

This was our second stay at the hotel, and we noticed a significant improvement in the quality of service and friendliness of the staff. The hotel is wonderfully located on an extremely picturesque, square, and within easy access of Avignon’s attractions. The central courtyard shaded by an ancient plane tree is gorgeous. Unfortunately, the hotel’s rooftop terrace remains closed. Highly recommended.

We stayed 1 night upon arrival in Avignon, prior to starting a week long stay in the small hill top villages of Provence. Hotel is lovely, albeit not luxurious. The courtyard is lovely for aperitifs.
Be the first to ReplyBest hotel for a stay in Avignon
Hotel d’Europe is a most wonderful hotel to stay when in Avignon. This converted 16th century mansion house is the most fitting place to retreat to after exploring Avignon as is the shaded courtyard bar area. The hotel is ideally located just a few minutes walk from the Place des Papes and Place de l’Horlige and next to the city walls so you can easily step outside to stroll the banks of the Rhone. Our room was absolutely luxurious. It was large and very comfortable with full mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities, a fully stocked bathroom and lovely linens and towels. The breakfast was lovely and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel if you were ever staying in Avignon.

We had the most lovely stay at Hotel D’Europe. The rooms were huge, comfortable bed, massive bathroom, lovely plush towels and a fanatic location. The breakfast was perfect, the hotel grounds were stunning. Staff were beyond helpful. Special shout out to Morgan and Ophelia who were so helpful and made our stay wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyNice historic hotel but below average breakfast
Nice historic hotel. Friendly and helpful staff!! I would have rated higher but the breakfast was a huge disappointment. Being a high end hotel, the breakfast buffet was overpriced (28 euros)with very limited selection. Most hotels at that category offer a much better variety of food. I agree with other Trip Advisors, order a la carte or dine elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyVery good hotel if your room faces the right way
We lucked out in that we had a quiet room overlooking the entry courtyard. Other couples in our group were kept up until 1 am with the loud music playing from neighboring places. It was difficult to cool the room in the warm October weather. We needed up opening the window to the courtyard below during the day. The room and bathroom were both nice-sized and very functional.

This is a lovely hotel in a good location - a short walk to Palais du Papes. I was allocated an amazing room/ bathroom. Breakfast was really nice in the little court yard area. Staff we're really professional.

We loved this hotel. Spent 5 days, using Avignon as a base for day trips. First, the hotel is beautiful. You enter via a large, landscaped courtyard that also serves as an outdoor bar/restaurant. This became a favorite place to sit for a while. Hotel internet extended to the outdoor space. Indoor public areas were beautifully decorated with antiques, tapestries, and other art. Our room, which was one of the smaller rooms, was still spacious enough and had lots of storage: 2 closets, shelving, drawers, and a large desk area. The window overlooked the courtyard. Bed was comfortable, lighting was very good. Bathroom also had good space, large mirrors, and excellent lighting. Bathrobes & slippers were provided along with big, deluxe bath towels and top-notch toiletries. Some reviews have said internet didn't work and staff was less than stellar. These issues must have been corrected because internet worked perfectly and staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. In other words, a first class experience all around.

The hotel was absolutely charming. Interior design of the hotel was second to none. It’s not just about the decorations, it’s about architecture too. Arches, windows, hallways, stairways create an amazing 3D ensemble. Skip the elevator, walk up the stairs and enjoy the views. The sleep quality was perfect, as was the service at the hotel’s bar. The selection of the food for breakfast could be better, though. Reception staff was always polite and caring during my short stay in the hotel. Definitely, I would stay in this hotel again when in Avignon.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the high price
Our experience was the same as Robert S. in August, or worse. For the price we paid, we expected to be wowed .. and we were not. The room was well-furnished, but faced a drag back courtyard. Staff was disinterested, Wi-Fi was horrible, bathroom design was weird (shower door did not meet the wall or floor so water went everywhere ... long-standing issue made obvious by peeling paint on WC door). On the first night, we noticed that one of the two lounge chairs had a broken leg. Mentioned it to the front desk on our way out the next day, and returned late afternoon to find ... no chair. Very disappointing after a busy, tiring day exploring Provence. We called to ask for a chair, and they brought a desk chair -- not a match to the other one in the room in design or comfort. On the way to dinner, we complained to the front desk, and returned to find a different chair -- covered in dust (obviously taken from storage and not a nearby room), still not a match for the other. With the reputation of the hotel, and the prices they charge, you should expect first-class maintenance and service, but you will not find it here.
Be the first to ReplySuper hotel and atmosphere
We stayed here for 4 nights and I didn’t want to leave! I loved the old world ambiance, although our room was classic it was spacious, lovely big bed. Super thick soft towels. Housekeeping good, room smelled nice after they left. Very quiet first few nights but was a little noise from bar opposite on last, not enough to disturb us. Desk staff lovely, friendly and cheerful as you came and went. Service in outside courtyard also excellent. It’s also in a great position for the better independent shops. I would love to come again.

We recently stayed in Hotel D'Europe. The hotel is charming, relaxing and the highlight of our stay in France. There patina of wear adds to the overall charm and the decor and special little touches throughout the hotel were fantastic.
Be the first to ReplyExpect Nothing From the Rude Staff and you’ll be fine
Oh, do not expect WI-FI even though the hotel says it has Wi-Fi. It doesn’t. If you expect absolutely no help from a rude, sometimes disinterested, bored front desk team who can’t muster the energy to help or be curious about your questions, then you’ll be fine. Is the hotel in a great location? Sure. Is the hotel beautiful? Sure. But why not stay at La Mirande and pay the money for beauty and a nice helpful staff? Or save bucks and stay at the Mercure? If I wanted to be treated this badly, I’d have signed up for a CrossFit class…:-)
Be the first to ReplyLuxury Haven Steeped in Old World Avignon Charm
Follow me as I discover more of the world and be sure to reach out if you have any questions ... According to the hotel by-line, the hotel came into existence in 1799. It blows me away that I get to experience part of this history while enjoying the modern amenities the hotel has implemented. The bed was extremely comfortable, the sheets/towels/robes were luxurious, the AC in the room was quiet as I'm averse to noise while trying to get a good night sleep, the bathroom was large & roomy. Even though I was on the second floor, I couldn't hear anything from upper floors. It is conveniently located with a short walk to the main commercial area & the wall/bridge. I basically walked everywhere while my friend rented a bicycle from a nearby place (the hotel should be able to point you where) to discover more. My friend & I stayed in rooms 201 & 211. 201 is sun dappled, has a view to a street and a modest bathroom. 211 has more of a courtyard view with a large bathroom with separate bathtub & shower. Tips: You have to leave the room key with the frontdesk as it's on a heavy bell. Book early and be specific about your preferences. Each room is different & as this was founded in 1799 & modernized, there may be a few quirks (for example, it required two steps to unlock the room door). No fault of the hotel, there are some eateries directly across that played loud music in the evening. Try avoiding the rooms facing that direction. Suggestions: Some of the frontdesk people seemed inexperienced & can seem a little overwhelmed if there were some questions/requests OR a larger group at the same time. One sign of this was that either none of them will respond or all of them will try to respond at the same time & talk to each other while ignoring the guest who asked the question/request. Some of them seem to be taking directions from the porters which was unusual. A taxi was ordered for us to take us to the train station but direction was given to take us to the wrong station. Luckily, we discovered it in time & had to scramble into another taxi. The breakfast staff also seemed a bit overwhelmed. They seemed taken aback & flustered when we asked for hot water (come on, we're Americans but surely a lot of the Brits ask for hot water for tea, haha). For omelette, there was only a choice of cheese or ham. No basic vegetables such as mushroom, onion, bell peppers. I'm going to chalk all this up to the pandemic & challenge in staffing with experienced staff.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely awful service and not even apologetic for cancelling my appointment that I made myself.
We were here for a weekend wedding for 3 nights. Booked a suite for 1100 euros a night. I’d made my own booking at the hairdresser Jacques Dessange for Saturday at 2pm as we were going to a wedding at 5pm and when I showed up at the hairdresser, they said the hotel had cancelled my booking for an updo and makeup so they’d given away my booking to someone else! I called the hotel and inquired and they said oh someone in the group told us to cancel all the bookings. Mine was made separately and they never even asked the name of the person. The lady at the hairdresser gave my name asking if the hotel was sure and they said yes WITHOUT CHECKING with me. They were not even apologetic at the hotel, nor did they try to find me an alternative. The service is awful. The food mediocre at best. I would NEVER stay here again or recommend them. Find another place to stay in Avignon! Never ever coming back here!

A gorgeous property, with much charm and quaintness set in a wonderful spot just inside the old city walls, with the most beautiful courtyard. Sadly, the benefits stop there. The location is extremely noisy by night, especially for rooms facing the square. The room we had needed maintenance which appeared long overdue. Service was generally friendly but far from top-notch even in the Michelin-starred restaurant. The overall guest experience did not represent value for money. Not highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyPoor value, service very lacking; loud neighborhood late at night
Despite a nice entrance and approach, this hotel disappointed on many fronts. The service was weak, with lack of follow-up and poor attitude to be helpful. Requested outlet adapter which was promised but not delivered. Visited nice bar lounge at night yet no waiter service came, so had to walk to front desk. At night, very loud music and commotion from adjacent plaza kept us from falling asleep, well past midnight.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
The hotel is in a very good location and is a splendid looking property. However , there are a few issues which revolve around the staff. Firstly , our room has dust under the kettle and there were some hairs in the bath tub. Also the separate shower is unusable due to the low water pressure. The most disappointing aspect however was the greeting by the reception staff. We were advised that our car would be taken care of by the valet , which normally means parking your car at the front of the hotel. This we did only to be informed we were in the wrong place by a very surly female receptionist. The valet soon came along and had no issue and took the car away. The same receptionist then checked us in. She was very unfriendly and dismissive , the whole process seemed like a big chore for her. After lunch and a walk around Avignon we walked back to the hotel and spotted her outside the main door on her phone. When passing reception they barely glance up at you , when you are away from them you can hear them chatting and messing around. The hotel management needs a wake up call as this establishment is not cheap and standards needs to be raised quickly. I would advise you to book another hotel until the reviews improve.

We found 5 star hotel with 4 people at the reception looking at each other and no able to offer anything to eat for guests arriving at 13.30. One lady kindly explained without moving a finger that the cook had already left! At 13.30. Very disappointed. Is this 5 star hotel?
